Putin praises Trump’s ‘sincere’ peace efforts, signals possible US-Russia nuclear deal

Ahead of his highly anticipated talks with President Donald Trump in Alaska, Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that he could be ready to reach a nuclear deal with the U.S.

On Thursday, Putin praised the U.S. for making "sincere efforts" to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has raged for over three years. He said on TV that the U.S. was "making, in my opinion, quite energetic and sincere efforts to stop the hostilities, stop the crisis and reach agreements that are of interest to all parties involved in this conflict," according to Reuters.

The Russian leader also reportedly mentioned possible future "agreements in the area of control over strategic offensive weapons."

Russia and the U.S. hold the world’s largest nuclear weapons arsenals and have a treaty limiting the number of weapons they may possess, which is set to expire in February, adding more pressure to the upcoming talks. The New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) covers strategic nuclear weapons and caps the number of deployed warheads at 1,550 on each side, according to Reuters.

There has already been some nuclear tension between the two nations in recent days, as Trump ordered two nuclear submarines to move closer to Russia after the country’s former president made "highly provocative statements." The Kremlin downplayed the move but warned all sides to be "very, very careful" about nuclear rhetoric, according to Reuters.

Would love to hear the Indian spin on this, went from holding hands with Trump, to dumping him for Putin, and now watching their new bestie Putin shower praise on their ex.

Trump wants the Nobel Peace prize real bad. But he will not get it. The world is still run by leftists. Trump is more of an aberration and his reign will be over in 3 more years. Leftists will bide their time before putting the hammer on him.

This is international politics. No one is anyone's best friend. Its all alliances of convenience. Who would have thought that Pakistan will be in bed with Amreekans again...Trump will not be happy with Pakistan's alliance with China. It will come up soon. Trump is only siding with Pakistan to arm twist India into making hasty decisions. So far, India did not take the bait.

The question is: do you believe he should get it? What do most Modi supporters believe?

He has frequently caused friction with his allies including Modi and India, not only by duping them into starting a war with pakistan, assuring them the US backing and then suddenly jumping in to stop it - regardless of what Modi and India says, that's the publicly accepted narrative, and US and Trump will stick to it.

Not only that, he has slapped his ally Modi and India with tariffs and all this antagonistic behavior is not exactly reflective of a peaceful nature to me.

My personal take is Trump is a con-man and he has swindled everyone into thinking he is a man of peace. I don't think he deserves any peace prize.

Trump knows exactly where Pakistan and China stand, there’s nothing to cheer or get upset about. This is just Indian fantasy, wishing U.S irritation could fracture Pakistan-China ties so India can jump in bed with China. you stick to your Russian friends (y)

That is not a personal take, that is the well established fact if one were to observe his behavior over the years, not only he is a con man but also a racist.
