Fahkar might have no technique , but its not like Azhar will win us games, just let him go and slog, at least he gives right hand left hand combo

Professor I fully expect to be selfish, but he wont be dropped


Umar is stupid, but he will probably go for it, plus having him at 6 allows Sarfraz to go up.

Never want to see Riaz, utter filth in ODI

no he doesn't , its a myth

People forget that the performance against India was when one ball was still used instead of two and hence Riaz could get crazy reverse which is what killed Yuvi and Virat.

beyond that the Watson spell is the only thing of note, and we are holding on to that like afridi's 100

its a decision where you loose either way, but id go with Shezhad. With Azhar's best you loose 'respectfully', or chase a small total. Shehzad's best is a rarer than a blue moon innings like his first ton against NZ or his hundred in South Africa, fast paced against good attacks
 
The squad is so pathetic that you can't even produce a decent XI out of it. Just hoping for decent individual performances from Sarfaraz, Babar, Malik, Hasan, Shadab, Imad and Amir. The rest are garbage.

Tempted to play Fahim ahead of Junaid but always risky playing a debutant in a high profile game. Don't want to risk Shadab against India either but I fear he will be picked, leggies tend to get slaughtered by India and if Shadab is selected his confidence may get dented.

ahzar , shehzad and hafeez will be too much of a doze off and even babar can not start his innings well. Akmal must open.
 
Pakistan's bowling will be bigger let down though in the tournament. Wahab and junaid are totally useless.

I think we should cycle between these two (although i feel junaid is a better new ball bowler than wahab).
you can play a bowling attack of aamir, hassan, shadab, imad, malik/hafeez

cant go with only 20 overs of fast bowling in england. One of them will have to play.
 
Going back and forth about playing Shadab, but if he did I'd drop Junaids in my team

Batting conditions are generally great in both innings at Edgbaston, there could be a little in it for the spinner in the 2nd innings but nothing extraordinary

Opening with hafeez is suicidal and he is in form at 4 so may aswell keep him there. I don't agree with azhar playing but he is better than shehzad and we have no other option. When it comes to umar... the less said the better I suppose.

Watched faheem bowl in the pakistan cup , quality batsmen will murder him. Wahab and junaid are still better than him. We gotta play one of them. Faheem isnt an all rounder in odi cricket , low strike rate and an average of 14.

Couple of things: If it's between Shadab and Imad for a place in the side, Shadab gets in no question. And as Umar Akmal has proven himself incapable of building a proper innings, I think it's best to use him as a hitter.
 
I think we need selfless players in the team so I would not go for Ahmed Shehzad. My preferred line-up would be:

I know its not likely and professor and ahmed shehzad will both play. But I hope that the management understand the difference between selfish and selfless players.

It is a farce that Inzy again did not select a fast bowling all-rounder for an overseas series/tournament. Ideally, Yamin should have played instead of one of Imad and Shadab as Hafeez is undroppable.

This is the best we've got. Deep down even you know that the above will be the XI they will go with. Actual toss up will be between Wahab and Junaid, not the openers.

We have two warm up games before the CT. I'm hoping Shehzad and Azhar flounder, while Fakhar does well. One of the games is against BD so Hafeez might do well.

Hafeez and Fakhar opening are the best possible openers from this mediocre squad.

I don't understand the obsession with Fakhar Zaman opening. Why do we want to send an ODI debutant to open vs India at an ICC event?

Don't get all happy after just looking at List A averages.

Will win against SL. In the other games this will happen for sure. If we had Sharjeel we would have been 160/3. I would still take that.

Ok here is a scenario.

You have a shiny new gun in one hand which you do not know whether it has a bullet in it or not, you have a rusted and malfunctioning gun in the other hand which you know has a bullet in but there is zero chance it will fire. Which one will you bet on in a life/death situation?


Fakhar is the shiny new gun. It may not work, it may even blow up on our face, but there this is tiny chance that it may work and that is what I'm betting on. With both Shehzad and Azhar we know that both will return to the pavilion with a score of 20(35) which does more harm to the team than good.

At the moment Sharjeel is looking like pure gold infront of the batsmen selected.


Also I don't get why PP'ers are underestimating SL. They pushed Aus to the limit recently and have a few exciting youngsters who can play modern day cricket. Besides Angelo Matthews averages some crazy number against us with the bat.

1. This is the ICC champions trophy, and this cricket, not a life and death situation.

2. You don't unveil shiny new guns at an ICC event where the pressure and the stakes are at the highest. You unveil them in series vs Zim/B'desh/WI/SL and give them time to develop. We know how strong our players are mentally, a debutant opening just adds to the pressure.

3. I know you hate both Azhar and Shehzad in ODIs but the harsh truth is that they are best we've got, in this situation and context.
 
Realistically speaking Fakhar Zaman is not going to open. You guys need to stop putting him in the opening spot really.

What I'd like to see (from this squad), is for Umar Akmal to open alongside Azhar Ali and Ahmed Shehzad dropped. This is the team i'd like to see

Replace Ahmed Sahzad with Fakhar Zaman and it becomes a decent team.

Only Haris Sohail/Aamer Yamin missing to make this our best possible combo.

Inzamam appears to be our main problem. Hopefully we will fail miseably and get rid of these so-called genius & saints along with his TTFs friends

Babar at 3 and Malik at 4... they are the building block of the batting lineup despite Babar's slow batting but making hafeez bat at 4 is terrible, he'll block more than half of the deliveries he face.
 
Considering the pattern of how our team management and selectors have been operating. I am 95% sure the line-up for the 1st group match will be as follows:

Although I hope Sarfraz Ahmed uses Shadab Khan as a pinch-hitter as we will surely need someone who can smash some big sixes and fours to get past a score of 300. We have seen Shadab boosting the run-rate for Islamabad in PSL, hence he can be the key in batting department aswell.
 
First of all, CT is probably not happening cause BCCI will boycott it. If by some miracle it happens, this would be my team.

I dont know. I thick Mickey and Sarfaraz value quick runs at the top. For the Windies series you have to remember that Kami and Shehzad performed very well at the PSL so were always going to open ahead of Fakhar. Now with Kami gone and Shehzad having batted worse than him, along with the only back up opener Azhar, Fakhar has a much better chance. I have hope that Fakhar is tried in the warm up game and impresses.

If we have to play Fahim and Junaid then it's better we play with nine men
 
My XI for the india game.
Drop imad for the extra batsmen, we need to be on the attack in the batting and not fearful of exposing a long tail. I dont think imad will be successful against india with the ball. Akmal is a fat mess atm but id take the gamble with him, our needs for a lower order hitter are indeed that desperate.
