Pakistan refuses to evacuate citizens from Wuhan, China (Coronavirus)

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed that an inter-ministerial meeting be held at the earliest to discuss preventing measures against deadly novel coronavirus (NCV) and formulate a comprehensive strategy to tackle the threat.

According to a notification issued by Prime Minister Office, the meeting would be chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Zafar Mirza. It will be attended by the federal secretaries for foreign affairs, national health services, interior and aviation, provincial health secretaries, chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority, surgeon general of the Pakistan Army, director general of the Military Operations, director general (counter-intelligence) of the Inter-Services Intelligence, director general of the Provincial Disaster Manage*ment Authority, director general of the Civil Aviation Authority, director general of the National Institute of Health, director general of the Airport Security Force and director general for China in foreign affairs ministry.

The document states that outbreak of NCV is being experienced in China. Owing to the presence of a large number of Chinese in Pakistan and frequent travel between China and Pakistan, spread of virus in Pakistan cannot be ruled out if necessary precautionary measures are not put in place. It has been directed that the outcome of the meeting along with firm recommendations shall be furnished to the PM Office within one week.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing, in a video statement, has said that Chinese and Pakistani governments are working closely and 500 Pakistani citizens in Wuhan city of Hubei province are safe and being looked after. Both the governments are coordinating with each other, he said.

“So far three suspicious cases in Chinese community have been reported in Pakistan, but none of them has been confirmed. We have confidence and determination that we will overcome this difficult time and will return to normal life very soon,” Mr Yao added.

According to Geo News, a group of Pakistani students has demanded that the government make efforts to rescue them from the coronavirus-hit Chinese city of Wuhan.

Hafsah Tayab, one of the students stuck in Wuhan, confirmed that other countries are planning to get their citizens out of the city through airplanes. “Embassies of other countries [excluding Pakistan] are rescuing their citizens. There are over 500 Pakistani students in Wuhan. If even one of them gets affected, the others will be in danger,” she warned in a video message.

“There is a shortage of essential items and if this situation persists, we will run out of food very soon,” Ms Tayab said, adding that she and her fellow students have been confined to the city.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad International Airport management has sought two more “virus detection scanners”. A senior official requesting anonymity told Dawn that the authorities concerned had been requested to provide two more virus detection scanners which would to be used if the existing one develops some technical fault.

A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority said the CAA had been facilitating the health department staff and had also provided an ambulance for shifting any affected person to a hospital. However, no passenger with the deadly virus has so far been detected.

However, an eight-member health department team has been monitoring the passengers arriving from Beijing. All the passengers are passed through the virus detection scanners and also checked by thermal guns.

A Pakistan International Airlines flight (PK-853) arrived at Islamabad International Airport from Beijing on Sunday. The health department officials were present at the airport’s special counter to monitor the passengers.

SAPM Zafar Mirza was also present at the airport to monitor the whole process of scanning when a Thai Airways flight (TG 349) with 186 passengers arrived from Bangkok on Sunday.

4 Pakistani students in China confirmed to have coronavirus: PM's special assistant

Four Pakistani students studying in the Chinese city Wuhan are confirmed to have the coronavirus, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza said on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference, Dr Mirza said that a large proportion of the Pakistanis living in China are students of which over 500 students are based in the central city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the new virus.

The premier's special assistant said that there were four Pakistani students confirmed to have the coronavirus.

Mirza, however, said that no case of the coronavirus has been confirmed in Pakistan yet.

"There is not even one confirmed case of coronavirus inside Pakistan," he said, adding that there were four individuals suspected of having the virus who were then kept under observation and their samples were collected. Mirza said that their health was improving and per the evidence, they could say with a great degree of certainty that the individuals do not have coronavirus.

The new virus has killed 132 people and infected more than 6,000 in mainland China and abroad so far.

The United Arab Emirates, home to long haul carriers Emirates and Etihad, also confirmed its first case on Wednesday in a person who had come from Wuhan, the state-run news agency reported.

The infection is believed to have originated in a wild animal market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, where it jumped to humans before spreading rapidly across the country, prompting authorities to enact drastic nationwide travel restrictions in recent days.

The government has decided not to repatriate Pakistani citizens stranded in China in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organisation, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza announced on Thursday.

"We believe that right now, it is in the interest of our loved ones in China [to stay there]. It is in the larger interest of the region, world, country that we don't evacuate them now," he told reporters at a press conference in Islamabad.

"This is what the World Health Organisation is saying, this is China's policy and this is our policy as well. We stand by China in full solidarity," he declared.

"Right now the government of China has contained this epidemic in Wuhan city. If we act irresponsibly and start evacuating people from there, this epidemic will spread all over the world like wildfire."

"So far, China has not allowed evacuation [of people]," he said. "You will, of course, remind me the United States has evacuated its diplomatic staff — not all citizens. This is a condition of the Vienna Convention which dictates that the host country can allow diplomats to leave if their country wishes for them to return."

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Dr Mirza said that the embassy in China was in contact with the Pakistani citizens. He said that the government believes that China's policies to contain the virus were adequate, pointing out that China was the first country to have developed kits to diagnose the coronavirus.

"China is one country where this disease can be successfully diagnosed," he said and added that Pakistan was trying to improve its capability to diagnose and treat the virus.

"Government cares about its citizens just as much as their own families. But we don't want to [...] take an emotional decision and become a reason for the spread of this disease," he said and added: "Our responsibilities include ensuring that our citizens, especially those in Wuhan, are being looked after properly [...] Our Foreign Office and our embassy in China are constantly collecting and providing information."

'All-out effort'
Earlier today, Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that the government had complete data of Pakistani students currently in China and was in touch with Chinese authorities to address any challenges the students may be facing.

Farooqui was addressing the outbreak of the coronavirus that has killed around 170 people in China and has been detected in many other countries including India, Japan, Canada and the United States, among others.

During a weekly press briefing, Farooqui gave assurances that the "Pakistani government was making an all-out effort for its citizens" stranded in China and was doing everything to assist them. She clarified that other countries were also in contact with China but none had attempted to repatriate its citizens.

The FO spokesperson said the government was aware that some Pakistani citizens were stranded on the Urumqi airport, adding that it was due to a flight delay. The government had contacted Chinese authorities and had requested them to "take care" of the Pakistani citizens, Farooqui told reporters.

Farooqui lauded the Chinese government's efforts to deal with the outbreak of the coronavirus and said Pakistan stood by China in this difficult time.

Yesterday, premier's aide Dr Mirza had said that up to four Pakistani students in China were diagnosed with the coronavirus. A large proportion of the Pakistanis living in China were students of which over 500 students were based in the central city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the new virus.

The FO spokesperson, during today's press briefing, said the Pakistani government had formed a high-level committee to prevent the coronavirus from spreading. The National Institute of Health (NIH) had declared an emergency following which a special centre was set up.

She further said that the Pakistan-China border opening had been delayed until April due to the virus outbreak. The border crossing was previously scheduled to begin functioning in February, however, the Gilgit Baltistan (GB) government had sought a delay in the opening as a precautionary measure.

As GB is Pakistan’s closest region to China, precautionary measures are needed to prevent any possible threat of the spread of the disease to Pakistan, an official statement had said.

Raza Rabbani demands repatriation of students
Meanwhile, PPP Senator Raza Rabbani deemed measures taken by the government as "insufficient" and demanded that Pakistanis stranded in China be brought back in a special plane.

He said that a parliamentary committee should be formed to review the measures taken by the federal government to deal with the situation.

The former Senate chairperson said that the government had failed in sharing information with the families of citizens stranded in China.

Pakistan begins screening at airports
No case of the coronavirus has been detected in Pakistan but the government has begun taking precautionary measures, including screening of passengers at airports. Thermal scanners have been installed at four major airports within Pakistan. The scanners — installed at airports in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar — are intended to scan passengers arriving at international terminals.

According to a Pakistan International Airlines spokesperson, necessary instructions regarding the screening of passengers have also been passed to the national carrier's station management and operating crew in China.

Measures to avoid being infected
The NIH, as well as international health bodies including the World Health Organisation (WHO) and United Kingdom's National Health Service (NHS) have issued public advisories listing preventive measures which should be taken to prevent the spread of the virus.

Here are a few simple measures you can take to avoid being infected:

Wash your hands regularly for no less than 10 seconds with soap and water. Using an alcohol-based sanitiser is also advised.

Wear a facemask and avoid close contact with anyone with a cough or flu. Fever, cough and respiratory problems have been identified as early symptoms of coronavirus.

If you have any of the above symptoms, contact a doctor at the earliest.

Cover your mouth and nose with your hand or tissue while coughing or sneezing to protect other people from germs. Discard the tissue immediately and wash/sanitise your hands.

While visiting a live market in an area where the virus has been detected, avoid contact with animals.

Avoid eating undercooked meat. Raw meat should be handled carefully in order to avoid contamination.

Pakistan on Friday halted flights to and from China with immediate effect, a civil aviation official said, as the death toll from a virus outbreak spreading in China mounted and the World Health Organisation called it a global health emergency.
"We are suspending flights to China until February 2," Senior Joint Secretary of aviation Abdul Sattar Khokhar told Reuters by phone, adding the situation would be reviewed after that date.

He declined to comment on the reason for the closure.

On Thursday, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) decided to suspend flights to Beijing until Feb 2.

Khokhar told Dawn that PIA had been operating two flights between Pakistan and China but it had decided to suspend flight operations.

PIA had started two flights a week to Tokyo and Beijing in May 2019 after a gap of three months.

In the first major response to the WHO's declaration of a global emergency over the spreading coronavirus, as Chinese authorities on Friday increased the toll to 213 dead and nearly 10,000 infections, the United States told its citizens not to travel to China.

This is Catch 22.

On one hand they are at best place in terms of available management of disease. OTOH, They are at worst place to get the disease.

Whatever Pakistan Govt does, you can't runaway from a Pandemic like this. What a country is going to achieve by banning the Chinese Contact when now cases have been reported from many countries. And what the trapped people have to achieve when virus is now pandemic.

Having said that, everyone wants to be with his/her loved ones in times of disasters. Evacuate them, quarantine them for 2-3 weeks and clear them.
 
Air India is now in Wuhan to evacuate Indian students. It’s very critical to leave the epicentre of virus. An army base is setup to quarantine them in india

It’s strange that Pakistan is not initiating evacuation like other countries and now twitter feeds showing some pleading for government to act.. now is not the time for diplomacy

During a press conference, Dr Mirza said that so far, it had been confirmed that 11,947 people were affected with the coronavirus, out of which 249 had died. He added that till Thursday, the virus had been detected in 18 countries apart from China and now, after two days, cases of the virus have been detected in 27 countries.

"It is now being transferred from human to human. It means that a person affected with the virus can also become a source for the transfer of the virus.

"The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the situation an emergency of international concern. Being a responsible nation, Pakistan wants to take steps that ensure the safety of maximum people."

He said that the decision was finalised after a meeting between Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where the latter assured that taking care of Pakistani citizens was a priority for China's government.

On Thursday, SAPM Dr Mirza had announced that the government had decided not to evacuate Pakistanis from China, saying that such a step would be "against the larger interest" of the country.

"We believe that right now, it is in the interest of our loved ones in China [to stay there]. It is in the larger interest of the region, world, country that we don't evacuate them now," he had told reporters at a press conference in Islamabad.

"Right now the government of China has contained this epidemic in Wuhan city. If we act irresponsibly and start evacuating people from there, this epidemic will spread all over the world like wildfire."

The announcement was met with anger by the opposition, leading the government to assure the Senate on Friday that the decision to not repatriate Pakistanis from China was not final.

“It is not a definite decision and if the situation changes, we will evacuate the Pakistani students on its basis,” Leader of the House in the Senate Shibli Faraz had told the upper house of parliament.

In today's press conference, Dr Mirza declared that the decision of non-repatriation of Pakistani citizens from China was final, saying that the government had "complete trust" in Beijing's policies to combat the epidemic.

"I want to reiterate our trust [in China's policies]," he told reporters, adding that the government stood by Beijing.

"We care about our children more than anyone else, but we need to realise our responsibilities and take the right step. We don't want to copy others [...] For us, it is more important to take steps that ensure that maximum number of people are saved."

He assured once again that Islamabad was striving to ensure that the Pakistani citizens in China were being taken care of and had access to all facilities.

Giving an update on the status of the Pakistani students who had caught the coronavirus, Dr Mirza said that they had recovered as the disease was diagnosed at an early stage.

14-day quarantine
The SAPM said that those Pakistani citizens, who are stranded in China, will not be allowed to return until they have been quarantined for 14 days and are found to be free of the disease.

Dr Mirza said that a comprehensive plan had been devised to ensure that when flights from China to Pakistan are resumed, passengers are screened properly so that cases of the virus do not emerge in Pakistan.

"We are confident that if we are successful in implementing this plan — and there is no reason to believe that we won't [be able to implement it] — we will be able to keep Pakistanis safe from this virus."

He added that an awareness campaign will be initiated on electronic media to inform people about the origin, symptoms and ways of transfer of the coronavirus.

It's possible that Pakistani administration have determined that there is a greater risk of treating them in home country, hence they may have requested Chinese administration to help continue the treatment. This is one of the greatest crisis of our times, there is no right or wrong step, while treatment of infected is of paramount importance, so is safety and security of the ones who are not infected. I am pretty sure Chinese govt will do everything within their capacity to provide the best possible treatment to that person.

Pak Govt is and Embassy are in contact with Chinese Govt and student. In other videos students are also appreciating the Chinese goverment efforts the infected pak students are being treated. As the poster above me mentioned there is no right or wrong here it's one of greatest crisis of our times and chances of best possible treatment are also in China right now we need to stop it from spreading any emotional decision can backfire badly.

It can clearly be seen as politics and diplomacy of Pakistan and China being played out. It looks very irresponsible for a foreigner.

Imagine the distress in students and their family on not knowing what to expect. They may not be having their proper diet bcos everything is closed.
It’s atleast fine if it was Beijing or Shanghai but it’s Wuhan and epicentre of outbreak, there are now reports of 4 Pakistan students infected by virus. Atleast with evacuation they may be feel relieved being close to home in a isolation centre

I can see people justifying this because it’s government decision but don’t think you would have said that, if someone you love was in same position.

There is no doubt Pakistan will do an evacuation in future bcos the infected count will rise so rather do it now . Prevention is better than cure..

You can’t let your citizens suffer in another country period. If this was US or any another country there was no way you could say that you are abandoning your own citizens to become infected because you don’t have facilities to quarantine them, as the citizens have an unalienable right to come back to their country.

I pity the students- on one side we are seeing cities under lockdown & then they are being left dependent on an overburdened foreign govt who is not able to prevent deaths among their own. The best course of action would be to bring them back & quarantine them.
 
Its pathetic from Government to let these students remain stranded in China when even other countries including the much maligned India are evacuating their students from China. Insafians would defend every move by the government.
 
I feel sorry for anyone from any nationality stranded in Wuhan but please understand that for the safety of the rest of us you must sacrifice. It is the least you can do at this point. You remain in our thoughts and prayers and we are confident that you will survive this epidemic.

I can understand PTI govt's logic here that china has better medical facilities than pakistan currently & letting their students suffer on their own in china .But even small country like bangladesh is evacuating their students. Till now 324 students reached from wuhan to india and indian govt is determined to bring them home & keep in quarantine.

I’m more worried about the Modi decision to bring the students back. Have my parents back home in India who are more vulnerable. India simply doesn’t have the capacity to fight back.

There are 220 million citizen that are much as Pakistanis as they are. We don't have the capacity. Sacrifice and patriotism is needed. Dr. Zafar Mirza(our health minister) has served as Director |Health System Development at the World Health Organization Regional Office in Cairo so he knows our capacity to deal with the outbreak

Good on India for bringing them back if they have the capacity

Take them from the kill zone. Quarantine them. Give them mental piece and best possible chance to recover under the supervision of your best doctors. That should be the primary goal of any country. You can't and shouldn't leave them and say you are sacrificing for the country. How stupid of you to compare with people who are trying to enter the USA illegally.

Those with symptoms should definitely not be evacuated but others need to be taken care off. Why can’t they isolate them in any army area and quarantine for a couple of weeks? I am sure Pakistan health care workers are not that bad to not take the necessary precautions.

The WHO warned countries against plans to evacuate their citizens from Wuhan, a city of 11 million people.

It's not my fault you find it hard to understand what i said in reply to that poster because he talked about hesyat of Pak govt so i showed him hesyat of indians and indian govt. Evacuation is not an issue here the issue is to stop it from spreading and FYI govt disn't mention the sacrifice it's some of the posters mentioning it here. There is a reason WHO is also against evacuation so stop your point scoring here and watch the video posted above in reply to that point scoring video by another indian poster.

Two flights carrying passengers from China arrived in Islamabad on Monday as government resumed flight operations to the virus-hit country.

A day after the World Health Organisation declared the epidemic a global health emergency, Pakistan on Friday had halted flights to and from China with immediate effect till February 2.

"We are resuming flight operations with China; a China Southern Airlines flight with 145 passengers on board will land at 9am at Islamabad International Airport on Monday," Senior Joint Secretary of aviation Abdul Sattar Khokhar told Reuters.

Following the resumption of flights, two flights carrying Pakistanis arrived from China, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza confirmed.

Taking to Twitter, Mirza said: "We supervised implementation of 'Airport SOPs' and I interviewed passengers."


The first — a Qatar Airlines flight — arrived from Doha, carrying 40 students. Health department staff conducted medical examinations of all the students at the Islamabad airport after which they were permitted to go home.

A second flight — a China Southern Airlines flight CZ6007 — brought 69 passengers including 57 Pakistanis and 12 Chinese.

According to aviation officials, the passengers are on board the plane, where a checkup for coronavirus is being conducted.

The flight included members of a group of Pakistani students and community members stranded in Ürümqi due to the suspension of flights in the wake of the new coronavirus outbreak in China who were earlier granted an 11-day visa extension by Chinese authorities.

Ahead of the flight arrivals, the premier's special assistant reviewed the arrangements for screening passengers at the airport.

"At all airports, screening systems have been strengthened. The Pakistani government is prepared for any emergency situation," Mirza said, adding: "The health department has the facilities for detecting coronavirus cases.

"At all airports, comprehensive screening arrangements are available."

Screening kits arrive
The resumption of flights comes a day after testing kits for the deadly disease reached Pakistan.

Mirza earlier told Dawn that thousands of testing kits had been arranged from multiple sources and hoped that no more kits would be required in future.

Additionally, all the seven suspected patients of novel coronavirus (NCV) were found to be completely safe.

"Just after getting the kits we decided to test all seven suspects who were kept in isolation wards of hospitals in Karachi, Multan and other cities," he said. "Fortu*nately tests of all seven patients were found negative due to which we can surely say that there is no suspect of NCV in Pakistan."

The testing kits would be provided wherever they were requi*red, he said, adding that now the National Institute of Health had become self-sufficient in diagnosis.

Earlier samples were being sent abroad to confirm if suspected patients were infected with NCV or not.

WHO Pakistan has also provided technical guidance and tools for screening along with laboratory support for management of NCV cases at federal and provincial levels, according to an official statement.

China's death toll from the new coronavirus jumped above 360 on Monday to surpass the number of fatalities of its SARS crisis two decades ago, with dozens of people dying in the epicentre's quarantined ground-zero.

The 57 confirmed new deaths was the single-biggest increase since the virus was detected late last year in the central city of Wuhan, where it is believed to have jumped from animals at a market into humans.

The virus has since spread to more than 24 countries, despite many governments imposing unprecedented travel bans on people coming from China.

I'm sorry but this is just silly. This isn't the 7th century anymore. You can bring them back and place them under quarantine similar to how India is handling the situation.

Onto the OP, it seems it is a decision taken after due consideration. The Chinese are dealing with this virus and have the facilities to manage it. The Pak Government should continue to correspond with their counterparts to ensure Pakistani nationals are given due importance.
 
Corona Virus is here to stay. It will be controlled but It's not going to be eradicated.

No way a country can remain forever safe from it. Cases have been reported from many countries and you can't restrict travel from so many countries.

Eventually it's the decision of students but being a doctor and having known Pakistan's healthcare system, i will advise the students to remain in China courtesy China's superior healthcare.

I'm sorry, a quarantine here or a quarantine there is exactly the same thing.
 
It's unfair for Pakistani citizens who are stranded in Wuhan at this particular moment. Some of them are probably having severe mental strain however there is merit in the decision of keeping the people there.

Pakistan's not China. We can't isolate an entire province like China has done. Our economy is fragile and this is the first time in years that there is some positive media coverage internationally. Tourism is getting better, cricket is resuming, economy is trying to slowly recover. We already have a massive Chinese connection so there are probably already fears that the virus is existing in Pakistan.

It's hard for the students in Wuhan but the benefits of a few outweigh the benefits of the many as a collective. This is not the same a minority/majority fundamental rights discussion; it's separate from that.

It'd be ideal if Pakistan develop infrastructure to handle such issues and for not developing that, the government should definitely be criticized. Not for this call, which in the circumstances is a right call duly supported by the ideology that's followed in the constitution of the state.

No, it is not the right call. Those are Pakistani citizens and responsibility of Pakistan. Saying leave them for China to handle it is a horrible approach. The government is abandoning its people. Setup quarantine centers observe them for a few weeks and let them go home if they've not contracted the virus. It's a simple solution but this government doesn't want to deal with problems and just want's to talk about current account deficit.

What makes you think that he hasn’t already got all that privileges?
I find it pretty low to justify a salary increase at a time when ordinary Pakistanis are living hand to mouth.

As for Pakistani students evacuation from China, majority of them are there on govt scholarships and will have a contract to return to Pakistan after their studies. This and the fact that every other country is evacuating their citizens makes it obvious what Pakistani government should do.

Also in news is that Chinese working on CPEC will be allowed to return to Pakistan after their new year holidays, so isnt there a danger of virus in that? Shouldnt we expect Imran Khan to take a moral stance on anything (after all his promises and claims of Riyasat-e-Madina)?

I don’t want to derail the thread however your lack of information on this issue is disturbing.
• IK lives in Bani Gala, a home he owns. He refused the PM house and “privileges”
• He has the minimum amount of security by his side at the insistence of advisors, quite unlike the previous PM who had a couple of battalions to safeguard him, his extended family & friends and all his ministers and cronies.
• IK has opposed the pay increase telling his ministers that all efforts should be concentrated on uplifting the conditions of the poor.
I assume you took your user name from the Kolkata cricket franchise, maybe you should have taken it from the 80’s show starring David Hasselhoff, at least you would have had KIT the advanced computer to correct your lack of knowledge.

Bro, i think the flights are coming from other cities of China than Wuhan, (which is totally cordoned off) and from Wuhan only some special rescue flights are operating by different embassies to evacuate their citizens.

Otherwise, i think China Southern airlines has resumed its commercial flight operations from other parts of China.

Also hundred percent sure if Pakistan had evacuated the students and the virus had spread here, these same "experts" would have been barking why did Pakistan evacuate the students and put 220 million people at risk.


This may sound harsh to the students and their families, but I'd rather have 150 students get infected (God Forbid) than them being brought here and infecting millions.

China lauds ‘iron ally’ Pak for not evacuating stranded from Wuhan

China on Monday welcomed “iron brother” Pakistan’s decision not to evacuate its nationals from coronavirus-stricken Hubei and the city of Wuhan, saying it was a sign of Islamabad’s confidence in Beijing’s ability to control the outbreak.

Until Sunday midnight, coronavirus outbreak had killed 361 people and infected more than 17000.

The numbers are set to surge in the weeks ahead.

Majority of the cases including the deaths are from Hubei.

Several hundred Pakistani students are based in currently locked down Wuhan, majority of them studying medicine and many on Chinese government scholarships.

Few among the stranded Pakistani students uploaded videos on social media, complaining about their situation, and comparing it with that of Indian students from their universities, who were evacuated from Wuhan by India over the weekend.

The complaints haven’t changed the decision, which was mutually taken by Beijing and Islamabad.

“China and Pakistan are iron-clad friends that share a good tradition of mutual assistance. As China fights the outbreak, Pakistan has stood firmly with us, maintaining flights and pooling medical supplies all over the country to help China,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, Hua Chunying said in an online press briefing.

“Indeed, as Pakistani Prime Minister and foreign minister noted, they highly commend and firmly support China’s efforts to fight against the nCoV (novel Coronavirus). They also appreciate China’s assistance for Pakistani citizens in China and express confidence in China winning this battle with the strength of its system. The Pakistani people are standing firmly with their Chinese brethren,” Hua said.

The Pakistan government had announced last week that it will not evacuate its citizens from Wuhan or Hubei

The decision that Islamabad will not evacuate its citizens during a phone call between Pakistani foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and state councilor and foreign minister, Wang Yi last week.

Wang said that taking care of Pakistani citizens was a priority for China’s government.

“We are deeply grateful and touched by such trust and confidence. China will continue to work in close communication and coordination with Pakistan to safeguard the health of Pakistanis in China,” Hua said on Monday.

“Like Pakistan, many other countries have also expressed full confidence in China. We thank them. We have the confidence and the capability to win the fight against the outbreak as soon as possible and safeguard the life and health of their citizens in China,” she added.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Naghmana Hashmi was quoted by Pakistani media as saying on Sunday that Pakistani students should not be evacuated from the virus-hit Chinese city of Wuhan as medical facilities in Pakistan do not meet the standards required to treat a patient diagnosed with coronavirus.

The Chinese foreign ministry, meanwhile, lashed out at the US for, what it said, were “unnecessary” and “excessive” restrictions on China because of the outbreak.

“However, regrettably, it was precisely the US and some other developed countries with sound health systems and advanced public health capabilities that imposed unnecessary or even excessive restrictions on China, which clearly runs counter to WHO advice,” Hua said.

Hua accused Washington of causing “panic” in its response to the deadly coronavirus outbreak.

China’s criticism follows the US decision to declare a public health emergency and deny entry to foreign nationals who had visited China in the past two weeks.

Hua added that the US actions “could only create and spread fear” instead of offering assistance.

She said the US was the first country to impose a travel ban on Chinese travellers and the first to suggest a partial withdrawal of its embassy staff.

As of February 2, 16 foreigners in China have been infected with the Coronavirus Among them, 2 have recovered and been discharged from hospital, and 14 are in quarantine and in stable conditions.

That might be the only thing from Medina ki Riasat Imran ever did cause in a Hadith somewhere I have heard that if there is a illness of some sort where it can spread to other people stay put in one city so that the disease don't spread (I can't be sure of this Hadith because I have heard it not actually read it somewhere credible so take it with a grain of salt)
But we all know he didn't do it because of a Hadith
 
this is a good decision to be honest; in Pakistan the rules and regulations would not be strictly followed in this regard

Yes because if you were in Wuhan, you would opt to remain in the epicenter of the Virus and not return back to Pakistan. Easier to talk big when you are not in trouble.

So he’s not residing at Bani Gala but actually at PM house, the media are not aware of this but somehow you know about it.
The battalion of security personnel that follow IK are invisible to common folk like myself but clearly a superior individual like yourself can see them.
The fact that the media have reported that he opposes pay increases for parliamentarians is just a hoax and in reality he is playing a double game and you are aware of this because you have insider knowledge.

What else are you aware of, I’m craving for some more enlightenment. Please start by showing evidence of all these “privileges” that he enjoys.
 
They are your citizens and mostly healthy, evacuate and quarantine then and release to their families in 2 weeks time. What if that whole city is infected in a months time and they decide to just let them all die? Have some responsibility towards yours citizens... Us, aus, can, uk, India, Italy all are evacuating their people.

Even Bangaldesh and Indonesia have evacuated their citizens. Maybe they are all fools only Imran Khan is a sensible guy.

If the scenario you posted comes true then many more millions outside Wuhan will also likely die, only difference for them could be dying in China and not Pakistan.

WHO have strongly advised that civilians should not be evacuated from the epicentre.
Pakistan are following the advice of the professionals and perhaps not the mischief makers.

Also China just called Pakistan Iron brother for trusting China to handle the situation..so its politics on all sides.. US and China.. , China wants to prove it can handle it.. and Western Media probably opposite.

Agreed. In worst case scenario, if no cure is found, they may seal the area which eventually will weed out the entire population which will be justified by saying, to make human race survive against a disease which has no cure.

It's easy to write in a computer but no one can understand the fear those people are having.

They built a new hospital within 10 days. That itself shows the number of cases are more than they can handle. Of course they will give care to foreigners but only after their own people are taken care of.

Not sure because it has not happened so I’m failing to see the reason you have asked it.
Pakistans decision has been vindicated by the recommendations of the WHO an independent and on the face of it apolitical organisation.

vindicated? I thought the reason Pak refused to evacuate was coz WHO recommendation.
