Pakistan refuses to evacuate citizens from Wuhan, China (Coronavirus)

Poori Duniya pagal hai. Sirif Imran Khan’s PTI government is strictly following WHO advise. President Arif Alvi has gone a step further and found a Hadees to put a ‘Halal’ stamp on this cowardly decision.

Then again PTI supporters don't need to see any arguments that nullify the wisdom and leadership shown by the their Great Leader.
 
This is a very difficult issue, IA they are safe. PK needs to follow Who advice. If they are advising that they stay there then as country who have no infrastructure to deal with the pandemic, we need to follow it. At the same time we need to start to plan for a withdrawal as soon as the advice changes.

What is the WHO advice?
 
You can look at it from both perspective. You can understand the extreme frustration of not bringing the citizens back, which the oppurtunist lil anti-Imran gang here is trying really hard to blame him over an extremely tricky situation (you folks keep stooping new lows).

Beating chest over nationslaism when country has no resources to tackle if outbreak happens in Pakistan, it could have really severe and dire consequences. Instead of taking a huge risk, it is understandable to leave it for the nation who is actually trying to tackle it by all means and resources. No one knows how it is going to play out in the coming days, weeks and months. It will only take on carrier to spread it among many in Pakistan. You can just look at the numbers in China how it multiplied in thousands over just days! It all started with one person or resource so it is a tricky situation hence WHO has advised against it.

Instead of playing your anti-Imran card at every oppurtunity, grow some sense and think over it before brining in your lousy political grudge over an international epidemic and human crisis. He's not a shameless corrupt politicians stealing money from the people like the leeches you like supporting so spare us your whines.

Then why are Chinese CPEC workers allowed to return to Pakistan?

As per BBC, the Corona virus is now confirmed to be present in all states of China.
 
I can understand not evacuating sick people, but letting healthy citizens stay behind and risk them getting sick is SICK. Shame on Pakistan government. Where is the honor? Pakistan is taking it too far to not offend China. I have frenkly heard pretty much every country who has evacuated their citizens. Shame Shame Shame. How can you demand loyalty from the citizens when you know your government does not have your back in difficult situations like this.

First, shouldn’t let the work stop for some virus. Second, diplomacy.

What will the students give to the society once they are back? Will just pose a risk. At least the workers will be contributing to the CPEC.

Chinese are still traveling all around the world (minus Australia and Chinese from epicenter area). You cannot just ban 1/6th of the population of the world from going around, and it's not like they are coming straight from Wuhan. Students are in Wuhan, epicenter of epidemic so situation is not as black and white as you anti-Imran gang are making it out to be. Precautionary measures are to be taken. Can those CPEC crew bring corona with them? Yes... but then again you can't ban people from traveling and chances of them bringing it are much lower compared to people from major hit Wuhan.

It's a sad situation but one can look at it from both perspective. A country like Pakistan can never be prepared enough to tackle such fast spreading disease crisis.

What if a healthy student from Wuhan arranges his own flight tickets and travels back to Karachi? I believe that would be allowed.

This is happening in the US too. A Chinese couple in SF were found carrying the disease. Of course Pakistan wouldn’t have better quarantine/medical facilities so I’m not surprised. It’s a catch 22 tbh.
 
No wonder the doctors aren't attending to him, they don't want to die because this jahil insaan couldn't spend a few days in China and managed to get to Pakistan by himself, and hail the brother wearing a non-surgical mask and picking up medical waste with his bare hands. Talk about taking precaution.

But this is not he right way to quarantine someone. If set lose this guy could spread the disease in Pakistan.

Just imagine if IK got them back and there is an outbreak in PK, what would these idiots say, yes we know, which idiot would go against the advice of WHO and words like incompetent etc would be banded about. I have stopped taking this idiotic Noora brigade seriously. There is alot to discuss, and i am not claiming the govt has the answer but the Noora brigades badnayaati shows in their every post.

The worse thing about this disease is you can be a carrier without knowing for days. A student or potential carrier in Wuhan might be all healthy but eventually could show symptoms once he/she has traveled back after days. In that period he/she could pass it around.

Student who is of a younger age with stronger immune system is likely to recover from it, as many carriers have completely recovered or are recovering, but if he were to be around aged, infants and unhealthy people then he could spread it and potentially threaten lives of many, hence hospitals are also the worse places to go during such times.

If Pakistan has a good healthcare system then I would agree. But I know Pakistan does not have one.

There was a Pakistani guy from Karachi who was in China and somehow come out of China and came back to Karachi and gave interviews to media about the virus and after some days Pakistani officials realizes hell we should quarantine this guy and then they quarantine him. This is how incompetent the system is and Imran Khan has not improved it. I would not even trust the quarantine in Pakistan.
 
Even if they dont want these Pakistanis back as suggested by WHO (as I said, it’s a catch 22), the communication can be improved. The Pakistani embassy told these poor folks that “zindagi maut Allah ke haath mei hoti hay”. That’s just insensitive.
 
Those half wits advocating Pak Govt’s decision to abandon these students there because the virus may come over to Pakistan. Please read these points again:

1. It was confirmed by BBC and others that Corona virus is now present in all provinces of China.
2. Chinese from those other parts of China, who are working on CPEC projects *are Allowed* to return to Pakistan.
3. Corona virus has already spread to other parts of the world, as far as UK and US.

Therefore its inevitable that it would ve arrived in Pakistan.

So why take such a decision that throws any humanity and empathic values out of the window. This is not some Zombie Apocalypse that those poor students from China would ve created a havoc. They could well have been placed in some cordoned of Military hospital for quarantine (and treatment if needed). At the end of the day, its a form of Flu virus not something like Aids.

There are Pakistanis stranded in Wuhan who are infected yet, but they will be because friendship with the state that does worse things to its Muslims than Modi is more important than the lives of Pakistani students in China.

It’s a shame because most of these students are probably PTI supporters who would have done bhangra when Khalifa-e-waqt took charge as PM.

There are also several ways in which these students can be screened. If they are carriers than they can told to stay back, but it appears that we are not concerned about the ones who are not infected.

Rest of the world is calling their citizens, but ignoramus PTI supporters who have not touched a medical book in their lives think they know better.

I think the team of doctors that Imran consults also haven’t touched a medical book in their lives, considered how they got conned by Nawaz Sharif (PTI words, not mine).

WHO also didn’t say that Pakistan’s Chinese masters should be allowed to enter into the country because CPEC is more important than the health of the citizens of Pakistan.

Dr. Zafar Mirza cannot do or say anything when he gets orders from the top. His hands are tied even if he disagrees with Khalifa-e-waqt.

That is very harsh. It's duty of medical stuff to attend to sick people. You can't blame a guy for running for his life. I would do anything to save myself too.

In Denmark when they evaquate their citizens they are told to stay home. They are not even put in some isolation, but told to stay home and contact doctors if they show signs of the virus. So it's not worse then that. Don't make it like it will end Pakistan and kill millions of people. Most likely they will soon find a cure and this hole thing will be over.

You also seem more knowledgeable than the folks working at WHO, because ofcourse your words on a community forum have more weigh than what the people running the health organization at world's stage.

So how are we conducting this "who ever is sick stay back and whoever isn't come home" test you say? I mean why hasn't WHO consulted you yet for expert analysis to control this crisis lol?!

Pakistan did cancel all the flights initially, wonder why they didn't consider their Master's harsh reaction as you say. WHO must also be working for PTI.

You have missed the point as usual. No one is calling corona virus a type of cancer - the problem is that this nCoV is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.

Hence, there is panic because we don’t know how to treat it, and before we develop a treatment, many people will die.

Yes there is a panic, uncalled for; fear - tried and tested on society.

There is no treatment to common cold. You are a doctor, you should know this.

This is not common cold whose symptoms can be relieved with OTC medicine. This particular strain nCoV is lethal which is the case with most viruses that can spread from animals to humans.

I don’t disagree with WHO’s recommendations, but the problem is that we are not following their recommendations. We are being selective to please our Chinese masters.

Those who are criticizing government decision not to bring back Pakistani students from effected provinces would be the first to criticize the government for ignoring WHO.

It would be written like this, “Pakistani master China couldn’t handle infected Pakistani students due to shortage of hospital beds and staff, China asked Pakistan to take them back and Pakistan obliged, ignored WHO and risking lives of 200 million Pakistanis.”

Pakistan is neither equipped nor prepared to handle outbreak, fruits of corruption of last 30 years, competent corrupt politicians has many ways to ruin ordinary Pakistanis lives regardless of where in the world you at.

Students deserve to return home, but only if Pakistan government sets up quarantine facility where they could be kept for a month or so. It shouldn't be too hard to do, so I don't get why it can't be done.
 
I guess Imran is called U-Turn Khan for a reason. He sees the Coronavirus he turns the other way and abandons his citizens....

In cases like these, quarantine is performed. It's not a big deal as quarantine will prevent spreading of the disease. Meanwhile he can undergo treatment with whatever testing method that medical community is trying.
 
I think the first case from China-return student is confirmed, now Indians need to sit back and relax... thanks for your dedication and concern.

A man who expressed fear that a Chinese man in Pakistan might have caught the novel coronavirus was booked by Chitral police in a case registered on Tuesday under Section 16 (dissemination of rumours) of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance and Section 25 (intentionally damaging or tampering with telegraphs) of the Telegraph Act.

A first information report (FIR) was registered after the additional assistant commissioner (AAC) wrote a letter to the sub-divisional police officer, saying that "miscreants" had spread rumours of a"possible outbreak of coronavirus in Chitral Lower [...] which created huge panic and fear in general public".

The letter explains that a Chinese national, Woo, who is working on the Lavi Hydro Power Project in Drosh, was admitted to a hospital after he experienced abdominal pain. The patient was discharged after treatment and had "fully recovered". According to the AAC, the doctors at the hospital had declared the patient's condition to be normal and had said that he had arrived in Pakistan before the virus surfaced in China.

However, the AAC said in his letter, a resident Irshad Mukarar took an "unauthorised picture" of Woo and uploaded it on Facebook, saying that there were suspicions that the patient had caught the coronavirus. The additional assistant commissioner said that the act was an "offence under relevant laws".

The AAC urged the police to register a case against Mukarar so that other people can be "deterred and stopped [from] spreading rumours".

The virus has killed more than 420 people and infected more than 20,000, nearly all inside China, although cases have been recorded in 23 other countries and regions, and there have been two deaths in Hong Kong and the Philippines.

No case of the virus has emerged in Pakistan.

What is with all the false news going round saying that there have been confirmed cases of coronavirus diagnosed in Pakistan?

Apparently there is a boy in sindh who came back from China and now another case in "southern punjab"?

But I cant see anything official regarding this? Does anyone have any official info?
 
I doubt China's "Iron Friend" will ever make it official even if the virus makes it to Pakistan.
 
just read a post not sure if true; apparently a Pakistani male student get out of China and reach Pakistan via Qatar, and he was sick but he did not inform anybody about his sickness and reach Pakistan, there he also hide sickness until now.

If true then this is the main issue in Pakistan that people would not follow the rules, hopefully this guy do not have coronovirus or else he has endangered lives of all people who he has contact with; this is bad how can he be so ignorant

We already have it. Every country with in the vicinity of Pakistan has it and it is officially on record. Only Pakistan is yet to officially have a Carona Virus positive case. Hence the doubt that Pakistan won't report even if it eventually gets affected. Just to be China's "Iron Friend"

Panel proposed to probe Pakistanis’ issues in virus-hit China

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Tuesday suggested that a parliamentary committee be constituted to look into the issues of Pakistanis who have been stuck in China due to novel coronavirus (NCV).

“So far 21,653 persons have been infected with the virus and 23,000 are under observation. Our children and people are not orphans, so we should decide whether we want to keep them in China or want to bring them to Pakistan,” he said while speaking on the floor of the National Assembly.

Mr Chaudhry said the proposed parliamentary committee should take decision about the Pakistanis facing issues in China due to NCV outbreak. “The world can be destroyed if some other planet hits the planet Earth. Moreover, an outbreak of a disease can also make the earth barren. I suggest that the parliamentary committee should discuss the issue and it should take the decision about Pakistanis after detailed deliberations,” he said.

National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser decided to get a policy statement from the government before forming the parliamentary committee.

Meanwhile, another flight from China carrying 122 people, including 31 Chinese, landed at Islamabad International Airport on Tuesday. One of the Chinese passengers who had slight fever was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

An immigration official said the Chinese traveller complained about breathing problem and was shifted to the isolation ward of PIMS hospital. He said the passenger had suffered from fever during the flight.

When contacted, spokesman for PIMS Dr Wasim Khawaja confirmed that a patient from Islamabad airport had been shifted to the hospital where he was kept under observation. “The patient is being examined by a team of doctors who will decide whether he should be admitted or not.”

He said a team of the National Institute of Health reached the hospital and collected samples to ascertain if the patient was infected with NCV.

Meanwhile, Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho informed a meeting of the provincial cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah that a flight with 300 Chinese nationals onboard had landed at Karachi’s Jinnah Terminal on Monday night. The doctors and ambulances were made available at the airport.

She said the Chinese authorities had first checked the passengers and then allowed them to board the flight to Karachi. Health department doctors also checked the Chinese and cleared them to land.

Dr Pechuho said a 10-year-old Chinese boy had run away from the airport but was caught hold of and shifted to the Gambat Institute of Health Sciences.

Moreover, Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said the government was fully cognizant of the threat of coronavirus and made necessary preparations.

Talking to journalists at the Directorate General Public Relations in Lahore, she said so far no confirmed case of the virus had been reported in Pakistan, adding that prevention and awareness were the key to controlling the disease.

The minister said coronavirus was genetically similar to SARS virus reported nearly a decade back. “The virus causes symptoms of fever with difficulty in breathing leading to pneumonia and the federal government has developed SOPs and Punjab is fully implementing them,” she said.

Dr Rashid said total seven suspected cases were reported out of which four patients had been discharged and three are under treatment.

In Multan, two suspected patients of NCV, including a Chinese, who were admitted to Nishtar Hospital some one week ago, have been discharged after reports confirmed that both were not infected with the deadly virus.

On other hand, another suspected patient has been admitted to the hospital. Associate Professor Abid of Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture was admitted to the hospital soon after he returned to Multan from China after spending two months there.

Mr Abid returned on Jan 10 and suffered from flue, sore throat and fever in the beginning of February. His family brought him to Nishtar Hospital on Monday night and he was shifted to the hospital’s isolation ward.

According to health department officials, the screening of all family members of Mr Abid was conducted and none of them was having any symptom of the disease.

the things is, you indians are poking your nose in our matter, its none of your business in first place to tell us what to do or what not.
and we know why are you poking your nose, since you have nothing left to bark against pakistan becoz of your Hitler-Modi blunder on CAA on International media, you people are trying too much hard to show your sympathy towards pakistani students ....
when govt thinks its fine to allow them and we are capabale enough to handle it, we will surely allow them to come ....

Whats really concerning is that Pakistan which shares a border with China and has a lot of Chinese activity within the country not showing a single Corona incident to date. We all know Corona is in Pakistan, if India has it, surely Pakistan would have atleast 1 case, there is nothing to be ashamed about here, Pakistan needs to come out and openly put any estimated numbers out to the world, everyone should work together to resolve this.... This is really pathetic..
 
If you guys were in this situation where you got infected, would you want to be sent back to Pakistan or stay in China?

I suspect they’re just not in a position to deal with something like this and hence wanted their citizens to remain in Huwan.

It’s probably there just not properly detected yet.
 
Even state governments have their own people in other states, so this emergency of their citizens at overseas, requires urgent attention and assistance by the Pak gov.
 
Disgusting. The blood of these men and women and children will fall on imrans hands. He banged on about his mother dying from cancer and it potentially been curable had there been a cancer hospital. All smoke and mirrors.
 
I strongly believe Pakistan is hiding positive cases of Carona Virus. It is literally impossible that all the countries in the vicinity of China are reporting cases and Pakistan has none.

How can you do so in this day and age of social media? Everyone is armed with a camera equipped phone. Pakistan does not have the resources like China to do mass suppression. It would have to set up secret quarantine facilities to whisk potential infected cases. If we had that kind of resources to hide patients. Might as well build quarantine facilities and bring your nationals home.

The ones stranded in Wuhan, who are not yet infected would do anything to be sent back to Pakistan. They are the ones complaining.

But I don't blame Pakistan if they truly are not capable enough to set up quarantine facility.
 
There should be a well coordinated health care system at the primary level with a surveillance team to track down these people who came from the infected area in the past 4 weeks. Those people should be properly examined for signs and symptoms of the disease and also if there is a suspicion, there should be proper facility to test their samples. If these things are not there, cases can be missed. That’s more serious than those with many detected ones.

Perhaps you are right about the facilities in Pakistan which is why they are currently not taking the risk.

But I was asking everyone's opinion what they would want
 
What is Pakistan government doing to bring back 500 Pakistani students from Wuhan and surrounding Areas? I saw some videos on Youtube and other news channel where the Pakistani students are begging Pakistan government to bring them back.
 
I think the time to evacuate has long passed now. China has implemented a draconian way of quarantining people in their home by welding and sealing the doors and leaving them to fend for themselves !!

As I said only IK is following WHO's advice of not vacating their citizens from china rest all countries like Germany, UK, rest of western world,south asian countries like bangladesh, India vacated their citizens but only IK is the intelligent person in this world & rest all other above mentioned countries are fools WOW WOW WOW ! ! !

In worst case scenario, let those kids die in China rather than bringing back to Pakistan and put them in a quarantine system....

People simply have lost sense of even empathy it seems.
 
This is a real tough one to call. Bringing them home carries a massive risk of infection. Leaving them in China sounds so incredibly cruel as if we are disowning our own people. Now if they were bought home then the thing gets contagious effecting thousands the government will be slaughtered for allowing it to happen. In most hospitals many serious diseases are confined to special wards.

Keeping them in China would be justified if

1)GOP Cannot guarantee an effective 14 day quarantine within Pakistan
2) If Coronavirus is as contagious as leprosy, which it looks like its not

So if there were no effective quarantine facilities, not evacuating was ok.

But its not like most of the students were infected

It will be surprising if Pakistan doesn't have quarantine facilities in any of the hospitals.
