Look I like Sami and Express pace as much as any other person but unfortunate for Sami, Sohail Khan was clearly the standout performer in the pentangular cup by picking up 6 wicket in the recent match and took 4 wickets in the previous match, most of them were bowled or lbw. At the end of the say it was between Sami and Sohail and Sohails performance in the previous 2 matches edged Sami out of the selection race. Actually Sohail has been performing quite good for a long time in the domestic circuit.

Now obviously it is to be seen if Sohail Khan can replicate these kind of performance in the international circuit. Yet again.
 
Very pleasantly surprised by the squad. Good on the selectors for letting go of the has-beens and players like Shafiq, Tanvir and Anwar. Sohail Khan is a little odd but I guess he won't even get a game with Irfan, Junaid, Ehsan and Wahab in the squad. Perfection would be Fawad in place of YK but that's too much to ask :) Woo for the selection committee! A little faith has been restored in the team. Looking forward to the WC!!
 
If they have selected younis khan then surely he will play and with recent performance Haris sohail should also play... no matter hafeez score runs or not against NZ and in warm up matches .... he will play at least 3 games of main round.

Point is whether they will go with 4 genuine bowlers or 5.
 
Got two grievances with the squad.

1. Fawad should have been selected in place of Younis Khan (we all know that, just stating the obvious).

2. Sohail Khan? He was no where the near the national team and all of a sudden he is selected. Should have taken Hammad Azam, since he already has experience of warming the bench as a water boy in the last world cup.
 
Why wasn't Yasir Shah tried in the recent ODI series vs. NZ?

Yasir Shah is also an excellent fielder. I would have had Raza Hassan there in place of Sohail Khan, but then again Sohail Khan could have improved from the last time he played international cricket, has a great list A record. Can anyone give us information if Sohail Khan has improved? How's his pace?
 
Sohail Tanveer was part of the squad.... Waqar Younis insisted on Wahab Riaz ...
which resulted in last minutes reshuffle; Yahya Hussaini

130-135 kph with no swing hasnt improved at all, has a pathetic action
 
Good squad, only person missing is Fawad.
I think he should have replaced Sohail Khan.
We will not go with 4 pacers so why take 5 fast bowlers unless they are too concerned with Irfan and Junaid's fitness.

Also they will play 6 batsman+ Afridi and they only have 7 bastmen not much to spare there.

very good squad, I like the way they have picked genuine players instead of bits and pieces rubbish like Anwar or Bhatti.
 
Sohail and Younis are both pathetic selections. Glad to see Maqsood, Haris and Yasir.
 
To be fair, I read up on Sohail Khan's recent form and it does indeed warrant selection and it's not some crazy stunt out of the blue. Whether he can replicate on the international stage remains to be seen though. Playing 11 should be:

Ahmad Shehzad
Mohammad Hafeez
Harris Sohail
Misbah ul Haq
Umar Akmal
Sohaib Maqsood
Sarfraz Ahmed
Shahid Afridi
Ehsan Adil
Junaid Khan
Mohammad Irfan

Unfortunately, YK will probably play in place of Akmal or Maqsood :( Hopefully he fails in the first few matches and they drop him for the rest.
 
Personally, I would have selected Bhatti over Sohail because Bhatti's pace would have been extra helpful in Aussie conditions and we witnessed his success in SA, where there was a bit more bounce and carry.

Also, super glad to see shafiq selected. :)

Lastly, Yasir Shah should not have been chosen because he will get hammered in Aus/Kiwi conditions and will most likely fail, instead should have selected Raza Hasan.

Yup we dont have any backup batsman incase one of our primary batsman fail instead they have they selected 2 extra bowlers. Looks to me our selectors have put a lot of faith on younis, hafeez,umar and sohaib. I reckon couple of them are gonna have a really bad time.

Sohail khan was an interesting choice but fair enough one wild card selection is fair enough.

The 1st 14 names on sqaud were good and then PCB spoil it by picking YK :Facepalm:

if fawad alam had been picked instead it would have been perfect selection.

I know.. its a risk .... but u need to have 5 bowlers.

so other option is

Sohaib and Haris will bowl 10 overs in partnership and drop yasir shah....for Younis khan/hafeez
 
No fawad thats pretty sad.

fact is hafeez yk and misbah will be in top 6 batting wise.

These 3 just cant play in pressure games. They bottle it..
 
Nice team but we could have been better with one bowler less. There is not much to chose from in batting while lots of choices in bowling.

Sohail khan was accommodate for some reason. Pretty much destroyed the good work of selection team.

But then again there must b some proof of incompetence as well.
 
Sohail Khan has earnt selection.

When I saw Sohail I got worried, thought it was Tanvir. Maybe it could have been Sami ahead of Sohail but Sohail beat him with performances this tournament.

Obviously only problem would be YK ahead of Fawad but we knew it was going to happen.

No Shafiq, No Anwar, No Tanvir.

I am over the moon.

Pakistan will win the World Cup 2015.

100% Agree with 11 you have picked, sadly Pakistan have to Fill the TTF quota by picking YK, hopefully Misbah will see sense and just use him for 12th Man duties.
 
YK is the only player that I have a problem with in this squad 1 or 2 guys missed out but only 15 can go. I hope Misbah and Waqar have the guts to not play YK like Akram didn't play Waqar Younis in 99 world cup.

Who would have thought we would finally see Maqsood and Haris in the world cup squad.

PPers has been begging PCB for 4 years to have them included.

Wow!!! despite being an Indian I got 14 members of your team correct:). Excellent team selection barring younis khan, but good news is that, he won't be in the playing 11 in the tournament proper, as there is no way in hell he can get a single 50 even against the associate nations take it from me. Hafeez will be able to clear his action in the interim if he works hard, yasir shah is a fantastic choice and he will outbowl afridi and yes he will get his chances the pitches will favour spinners. All of a sudden pakistan are looking good just like england.
 
At least Akmal is there. Oh and no Fawad is a horrendous move. Sohail Khan wasn't included in any of our sides matches recently, yet he gets a pass to the WC?

Feel for Bilawal but also thank goodness there's no Tanvir to make me throw my shoes at the TV.

The team is still lobsided by the inclusion of 3 left-arm fast bowlers.

I can see Irfan and Junaid (if he stays fit) to be the first choice fast bowlers, with either Yasir Shah or Sohail Khan as the 4th and 5th choice bowlers.

I agree with you Hawkeye. Feel sorry for these guys!

Good job done by selectors, to select a good team.

Really feel very very sorry for Shoaib Malik / Kamran Akmal mafia, they tried their best, long threads, pressure on selectors by their sources. I pray that our Pakistan team do very best in the tournament. God forbids this mafia will be very active again if our team performance is not on par level. Mafia just want make Malik as captain and Kamran as opening batsmen maybe keeper also.
I have no problem with Malik as batsmen, but his past shows he is revengeful person, keeps grudge and may also do politics like the famous word group bandi. This is the main reason selectors have not selected these guys. I guess PCB, Selectors and players are really scared of these guys.

I like the squad. Disappointed that fawad isn't in but only because YK has been selected. I think fawad will become a regular fixture after the world cup.

Moving onto Sohail Khan. I think he will get at least one game in the preliminary round as Irfan and junaid will be rotated. We will need irfan for the big games but we have to ensure we beat the minnows and I think having yasir play will help us do that.

Overall glad they chose yasir a leg spinner, as they traditionally do well in oz. Plus most batters in the world haven't really played against quality leg spin in a long time and we could exploit that. Misbah has to be brave though. Yasir will get hit for sixes and fours but he must be used to attack not contain. My playing eleven(s) would be:

1) Shezad
2) Sarfraz
3) Yk
4) Haris
5) Misbah
6) Maqsood
7) Afridi
8) Yasir
9) Junaid
10) Wahab
11) Irfan

I would see how the batters are doing and bring in Akmal and hafeez where required. We need to use the whole squad and smartly to get our combination right in the first part of the tournament.

Overall Ill be happy if we play well and spring some surprises even if we get knocked out in the QF. Not expecting to go beyond the QF anyway.
 
Good,balanced squad.Why sohail khan.(I haven't seen his bowling bt surely pakistan have better bowlers than him)Will happy if Maqsood,Akmal get every match ahead of Yunus khan and Hafeez.Afridi and Sohail are there as AR whereas Hafeez shouldn't be taken as pure batsman.Sarfarz should open the batting with Ahmed.No needof him at lower down the order.

Just because Younis Khan is "similar" to Fawad doesn't mean they can't both be in the team. Absolutely idiotic logic that is.

The fact that HAFEEZ, is in this squad shows what a true shambles it is. The guy has literally only justified his place in the team in the last 5 years due to his bowling. Now, he can't even do that.

Seriously, Fawad should have been in for Hafeez, he can do a much better job at opening, and actually has temperament unlike almost all our other batsmen. Also, we can use Sarfraz to open if needed.
 
YK is the only poor selection fawad instead of YK would have been perfect.

I would not comment about Sohail Khan selection if he is performing.

if Hafeez gets cleared we have options galore. If he doesn't we are covered with yasir being there. The selectors have done a decent job. Now its upto our team.

As for Fawad Alam, here's what he has to say about him:

We have to make sure we have the right composition of players in the team. We cannot have too many similar players in the team. He should not lose heart. There is still some time to the World Cup and Fawad is a talented player and should an opportunity arise such as an unfortunate injury to any of the other players, he can easily make his way back in the team.

Even Indian squad isnt thatuch good.Hack like Raydu,Binny after performing in India won't di anything in Australia.Reality check will be provided by Aussie in this tri series.
 
There are always going to be ifs and buts with teams selection with any side - ie fawad or yk BUT I must say I am very impressed with PCB, they used their sense and have selected a good squad. Strange to br Sohail but he deserved the call based on performances ... Glad likes of Asad, Kamran and Malik are not there and that Sohaib is back. This is brilliant.

What i meant is that despite several gaffes by the selection committees of the both pak and eng in the end they were able to select a pretty strong team although there was no planning or vision they got almost the right men to do the job, its high time they gel together. You may be underestimating the pak team but honestly i feel they can go the distance, if they take all their catches.

I completely agree our team is average our batting hinges on virat and dhoni others are mere fillers with inflated egos any loss in form from those two will be game over for us, infact i will say this eng are a better team than us

Yess for sure.England has Root,Morgan,Bopara and Buttler.While we have Kohli,Dhoni,Raina who can be relied upon.Rohit,Dhawan are nothing bt a joker overseas except ct2103.Rahane isn't suitable at no.4.overall we will progress to semifinal if get a quarter final with sl.Sa,aus,nz will surely beat us.
 
Is it true that Sohail khan in recent interview said that"Kohli wohali jo bhi aaye,mera kam hai out karna".this is hillarious.A guy who I think will find it difficult to make in 11 with pace battery like Junaid,Wahab,irfan.Surely it would be due to euphoria.

word of advice if you want to discuss the indian squad I believe there is another thread for it.

coming onto the idea that Malik will be shipped in as captain, lol, why would anyone follow him? soon as his back is turned they'll look to plot to get rid of him. Select the team then a captain. end of. He doesn't deserve it.

Great squad. Better than what many people could hope for. Many of the has beens are dropped which is great to see.
