Pakistan & Sri Lanka share one point after their World Cup match is abandoned due to wet outfield

Absolutely shocking piece of officiating this!
Yesterday's match and today's decision to call off the match, someone needs to be held accountable!

Such level of mismanagement in an event like WC is unpardonable.

Australia and New Zealand are a good place to host cricket

Even India, SA, WI are pretty decent, and hopefully Pak will be part of the list in the coming future. They selected Eng and that too in the rainy season.

I hope whole world cup gets washed out. These ICC wallas will never learn until it hits their bottomline.

West Indies had a lot of rain last time around in 2017 but then again the geniuses decided to schedule the World Cup during March and April

True. I dont know how difficult it is to check the historical years for rainy months and seasons and avoiding them.

SL will be very happy :D

They will have to play Aus, Ind, Eng etc as well so not sure if they will be happy getting 1 point here as there are not gonna be any easy opponents in the WC. I am pretty sure they would have also wanted to try for those 2 points.

Must win game for both teams. They will both be very disappointed

Need to calm down everyone

ICC have to refun 100% of the sold out tickets. They are the ones at a major loss. The broadcasters and the players/ stadium and groundstaff will all get their pay 100%

Matches are insured i believe!

If you guys are depending on us to win the World Cup by taking cheap points against the weaker nations, then maybe we do not as a nation deserve to be champions.

If we are going to win, it’s going to be the hard fought way

Relax. It's not Pakistan's mistake if it rains. Rained-off match against Aus is good as they are strong opponents.

So by Wednesday for the game vs Australia it would be 9 days since Pakistan last played in the tournament. On top of that the weather forecast for that game looks bad too.

Forecast for Wednesday's game is heavy rain and 90% rain whole day. Now 2 game in a row will get effected, this might also get called off.

Really disappointed with this.
Yes we expected it to be rained off, but like I said in another thread, this feels like a point lost rather then a point gained.

No it’s not.

No such thing as a strong opponent especially when you beat the hosts/favourites at home. Pak should back themselves to beat Australia in home like conditions

I only expect Pak to lose to India and maybe, maybe New Zealand from hereon

Rain forecast for wed as well!

We have a few days for the weather to change but I have a sneaky suspicion it will be rained off..
Also not sure our batters will fancy facing Cummins and Starc on an overcast day on a damp wicket...

That’s why today’s abandoned game feels more like a loss.

PAK should feel robbed here considering both teams’ current form and SRL’s record against PAK in WC games. For any tournament in UK, there should be a reserve day.

Pakistan & Sri Lanka share one point after their World Cup match is abandoned due to wet outfield

Sad, very sad. A big blow for Pakistan here! Not trying to undermine Sri Lanka here of course. A rain-shortened match might´ve worked in their favour too.

The pitch was green. I have seen the previous match here. And i am happy that the match was abandoned. Everything happens for a reason. This point will come in handy instead of no points today. There will be a time, when run rate would matter, but we would go through because of one point extra. InshaALLAH

If it was against the Aussies or Kiwis then yes it maybe acceptable..
However you should back your team to win all the games especially against this Sri Lanka team who have been absolutely pathetic..

To drop a point here was the worse possible outcome..

This superiority complex & over confidence would do us no good. We need to be realistic of our weakness. and the fact is, we are weak against seam/swing & even bounce. and this pitch is more of our nemesis than being friendly for our team. I back my team to win against Australia, South Africa, NZ, Bangladesh & Afghanistan. Against India we may collapse, but i hope they will against them too.

Exactly this, good post. Some posters don't seem to understand this

Yes that 1 point will matter a lot in the end.

Rain forecast 70% for the Pakistan-Australia game in Taunton too...hope that one doesn't get washed out too

I don't think Wednesday came will be called off. Should get enough overs for a game. There is no certainty with the British weather.

"Unfortunately, we didn't play today. We have a confident side so hopefully we'll do well against Australia. Every team is scared about Pakistan. Dressing room is very confident after the England match."
Sarfaraz
Who said to him that every team is scared of playing Pak... absolutely pathetic to hear

This is sheer arrogance from Sarfaraz...he is behaving as if he has won the world cup after defeating England. Dont underestimate your opponents bro!

I am in Bristol and I am fuming. First ICC messed up pak Wi then this. This level of incompetentence should not be tolerated. The ground staff fave up.

The sun is shining bright, it’s like the perfect day to watch cricket and stupid ICC is robbing fans.

This guy is embarrassment. Seriously those comments makes him look so stupid. After 12 years of Int cricket this guy still can't talk sense.

So the rain never returned?

No it’s weather that you dream off on a Friday evening after work. It’s like perfect cricket weather right now.

This is what pisses me off the most. For 4 days it’s known rain is coming. Why can’t ICC spend 500 pounds buy plastic covers and cover the whole ground. It is not that difficult. I feel robbed by the ICC right now.

This is disgusting. Tomorrow's match may also going to be a wash out . We shall loose probably against England but I don't care ,rather a washout without a ball being bowled is disgusting. I want action.

That's why I am so disappointed right now. I have been waiting for whole day so rain stops and we will have play and when rain stopped 2 hours before cut off time and sun was shining ever since we still couldn't get a game. Really incompetent stuff fron ICC.

They should have had a reserve day in this world cup considering the nature of weather in that region, some days have two matches any ways there was no harm in one more reserve day for every match. Rain is going to spoil some more matches in this world cup.

It's really surprising they have held wc in an early summer when it rains a lot.

Dimuth Karunaratne frustrated as rain denies Sri Lankan momemtum

Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Karunaratne vowed his side will continue to fight until the end of their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup campaign after their game against Pakistan was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Both sides were coming into their third match with momentum on their side after bouncing back from disappointing defeats in their opening fixtures.

Sri Lanka suffered a thumping 10-wicket loss to New Zealand in Cardiff before holding their nerve on their return to the Welsh capital three days later to edge out Afghanistan by 34 runs.

That game saw Sri Lanka, the 1996 champions, set a revised target of just 187 after rain reduced the game to 41 overs per side.

And the weather intervened once again against Pakistan on Friday at the Bristol County Ground, where persistent rain forced the game to be called off before a ball had been bowled.

“We all came here to play cricket so it’s not good that we didn’t get to play,” said the Sri Lanka skipper. “We’re really disappointed as a team but we’ll look ahead to the next game.

“We won our last game against Afghanistan and while we may lose some matches along the way during the World Cup, we always give a lot of fight and that’s all we want.

“We want to compete with the other teams. We did really well against Afghanistan to get the win and I want us to take that confidence into the rest of the matches, starting with Bangladesh.”

The no-result in Bristol means the points were shared between the teams, pushing Sri Lanka and Pakistan into third and fourth place, respectively, in the table.

Pakistan will now turn their attention to a trip to Taunton to face reigning champions Australia, while Sri Lanka return to Bristol for a clash against Bangladesh.

The emphasis for Sri Lanka will be on reinforcing their batting line-up, having experienced two heavy collapses in their opening two games of this year’s tournament.

They were bowled out for just 136 against the Black Caps despite Karunaratne finishing unbeaten on 52, before crumbling from 144/1 to 201 all out against Afghanistan on the same pitch.

But Karunaratne believes his players will learn from their mistakes and come back even stronger in their remaining games.

“If we make a good start to the innings then we can keep that momentum going,” he said. “If you take the last couple of games, we couldn’t capitalise on the starts we made.

“We need those middle order contributions and I think that’s the key for us as a batting line-up. Other than that, I think as a group we’re doing really good.”

what a joke. Pakistan would easily have gotten two points. sorry it happened. And apologies to those who think Pakistan might have been lucky getting a single point - no way, Pak would have got two.

This is disgusting. Tomorrow's match may also going to be a wash out . We shall loose probably against England but I don't care ,rather a washout without a ball being bowled is disgusting. I want action.

Weather is fine for the game according to the met office.

Considering that Pakistan’s form is unpredictable, it came out better in the washed out match. I would have given Sri lanka a better chance given they came back from behind in the last match:

Glass half empty/full..This 1 pt might help - who knows, rain ruined SA in 92 which I think would have beaten Pak in Final

We need to win the game against Australia. West Indies still have winnable games left. NZ only need 2 more wins to be in SF. We already know Australia,India, and England will be in the semis more than likely.

Rained off games don't help Pakistan. I would rather get through for our performances than getting 1 point due to rained off games.
