Pakistan Super League 2018 - Crowd Watch

What happened to those crazed, slogan yelling Pakistan fans who used to turn up in their thousands during the Sharjah matches in the 1990s?

Well this is Dubai, there are not many Pakistani bachelors here compared to Sharjah, mostly Indians.

They will appear again during the Sharjah leg of the tournament.

Dubai is the worst venue for international cricket in the world

I think Sethi and co need to think about this,

Sharjah and Abu Dhabi are good venues for all group games.

Dubai for Semi finals and play offs

Lahore/Karachi for final

Saturday evening. Crowd size is abysmal. Cannot believe this

Empty PSL Stadiums in Dubai?

This is on a Saturday when its a holiday in UAE. Looking from the camera's you can see the no of unoccupied seats in the stadiums comfortably out number the no of seats occupied. I wonder what the excuse is going to be?

That cities like Sharjah have far more Pakistani's vis a vis Dubai?

2 play-offs are in Lahore anyway.

I think Abu Dhabi was ditched because of the pitches.

The PCB should have learnt lessons by now given that we are now in the 3rd season

Playing t20 cricket on empty grounds is a bummer..it just doesn't give you the spirit or energy to play...watching is even worse..

You don't have to attract Pakistani's only, how about targetting Indians, Bangladeshi's?

Well this is Dubai, there are not many Pakistani bachelors here compared to Sharjah, mostly Indians.

The two cities are barely 30 kms apart.

Surely some people could have made the trip, at least on a saturday evening?

The PCB should consider England as an alternative

The trip is expensive due to the Toll gates on the highways plus there is allot of traffic between Dubai and Sharjah

will always be the case until the PSL is played in Pakistan, even then i remember the world xi t20 had a quite a few empty seats surprisingly in lahore.

All the previous PSL's have proven that UAE will not bring in any crowds. Can't believe people are actually surprised.

The crowds will pick up in Sharjah, it should be well known by now because it has been the case in the past 2 seasons.

Dubai has been lifeless in terms of crowds.

PSL should be played in Pakistan. PSL is a tournament by the Pakistanis of the Pakistanis for the Pakistanis :D. A few overseas players would come anyway. I don't think PCB should be too worried about it.

IPL was also there once in Dubai in 2010 I think. Was there more crowd in stadium than PSL? I think it would have been more due to Indians and Bollywood cheerleading!

IPL matches in Dubai were jam-packed, almost all full houses, even the high ranking Dubai and other UAE ministers used to attend the matches and give interviews about increasing ties between India and UAE.

Get it in Pakistan next year regardless of foreign player quality.

Zalmi in Peshawar, Kings in Karachi, Qalandars in Lahore, and Sultans in Multan.

Does anybody know if Quetta has a stadium? If not, they can play their home matches in a neutral stadium.

I remember some games in the second edition of IPL was played in UAE and the crowds were good. I don't remember matches played to empty stadiums. I don't think it was full like in India but wasn't as bad as the picture above.

Tickets are pricey too. It adds up for a family for decent seats. A family of 4 ends up paying $70 plus overpriced food. Which is OK for one or two days but not more. PSL should be free or nominal prices.

Plus who wants to pay that much to watch Hafeez, Shoaib, Sami?

Towards the end of the tournament, you get more people - when it gets more meaningful.

Even then do not expect more than 25% full. This is UAE.

IPL was quite poor in SA though

i dont get why we are even comparing indian crowds to pakistani crowds. India has a population of 1.3billion whereas pak is only 200million. They are just more than us . Comparing ipl 2014 crowd is also absurd cuz indians in UAE have been deprived from watching their icons live for decades.

As for dubai stadium being empty, only friday is a day off, Majority of people work on saturdays as well. the lives of people here is much more work oriented. The stadium is outside the city, taxi's to the stadium will easily cost 30USD. The buses here are not efficient and the train is also not linked to any nearby area.

Most of the pakistani in UAE are blue collar and every penny counts for them. Even if the tickets are made free you wouldnt have any significant increase in the crowds. Its just not easily accessible. There is nothing that can be done until matches are moved to Pakistan.

Until it is brought back to Pakistan it will remain an ESL(empty stadium league). T20 is about batsmen. For bowlers we have test. Only recognizable batsman are shoib Malik and afridi. It needs to have some power hitters.

That's a very Pathan kinda stuff

The crowds are always gonna be like this in the UAE.

But the best way to maximise crowds in the UAE is to allocate matches to each stadium smartly. Right now each stadium host 7-8 matches in a row.

Best thing to do would be to get Abu Dhabi involved so we have 3 different stadiums. Then you make sure no stadium hosts more than 2-3 matches at once. This way there will be less opportunities to watch the PSL at each stadium so more people go to the few matches taking place at each stadium

This won’t get us full houses but it might increase the spectators per match. But the best thing in the long run will be to host more and more matches in Pakistan.

I may be wrong but ticket prices are set by the ECB. PCB get no share of the ticket revenue.

Seems more people tonight but still not jam packed, hopefully as the season progresses, the crowds get bigger and bigger

It will only get bigger when the tournament comes to home. People in Dubai do not have that much money and mostly those people are labor category.

Crowd worse this yr than previous seasons. PSL in the uae is simply not a long term thing..

Last game and today seems like better attendances. Is it jam packed today?

Even the low profile India SL match got a full house today. PPers should all get together and start an online petition to move this tournament to Pak completely from next year. May be some of the admins can get in-touch with PCB top honchos and present a convincing argument.

This Dubai stadium looks quite bigger than Sharjah in capacity. Even with 10000 odd people , it will look almost empty. Anyways there will be no crowds in PSL until it moves to Pakistan or it brings top quality players from all the countries.

I think they should just have 3 matches per day on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Will guarantee a much better attendance.

That's because the home team was playing. The next Ind-Bangladesh match was empty.

Crux is if it's Pakistani league.. It has to be in Pakistan. I remember one season of IPL in SA was so stupid

But IPL got packed houses when they played in UAE in 2014; so there is something definitely wrong with marketing by the PCB...
If not full houses atleast we shud expect half full stadiums

Well I don't know which genius decided to hold a qualifier in Dubai on a Sunday, which is essentially a Monday there

Doesn't make sense. Why put the final and 2 play offs in Pakistan but the first play off in UAE. Surely just more practical to hold the group stage in UAE and all play offs + final in Pakistan.
