As Pakistan gears up to take on Bangladesh in the 2-match Test series starting today, August 21, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has set the ticket prices as low as 50 PKR in an effort to attract the local crowd to the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. However, will this pricing strategy be enough to fill the stands, especially given the history of the last two Tests played here in 2022, which were marred by flat, sluggish pitches that offered little excitement for the bowlers and drew widespread criticism?

With rain forecasted during the early hours on most days of the scheduled five-day game, the weather could also play a role in dampening the spirits. Yet, the low-cost tickets might still lure cricket enthusiasts eager to witness live action despite the challenges.

The real question is: Will the crowd turn up in numbers to support the home side, or will the combination of unexciting pitches and unpredictable weather keep them away?

Not many in the stadium to watch. Maybe due to heat?

Should get batter as the day progresses.

And then folks get upset when I say that PAK should focus on white ball cricket. Even for 50 PKR, no one wants to watch Test cricket.

They don't turn up for ODIs and T20s and PSL either - not like us Indians at least.

Whatever the format, as long as there is nothing to look forward to from the team from a long term perspective, why turn up?

Maybe not to that extent but even ODIs against NZ 'C' had decent attendance.

Test cricket attendance is absolutely shambolic.

Pathetic stuff by Pakistani awaaam that they cannot support their cricket team like that

Not many people are goona show up and sit on concrete.. seems like the pcb couldn’t even arrange for a full set of shaadi chairs..

Pakistan shpuld focus on fc cricket to improve bhai.

Just because fans don't wanna watch doesn't mean every fan doesn't want to see the team ply test cricket.

Pindi is boiling lava anyway.

Test Cricket is dead in Pakistan

One would not know from what is said on this forum. Where are all those posters who say Test is king on this forum? Not bothered to show up and support.

Test cricket is well and truly a three nation sport. No point for others to play. Because no one cares in other countries.

Just cover those stands at least temporarily. Let the spectators have some shade and some convenience so that they can spend some time with family. Arrange the matches so that second/third days falls on a weekends, ensure public transportation is good, hopefully people will turn up

It is the same issue in Indian stadiums. At some like BLR, Chennai and Mumbai have metros connecting them. Otherwise poor experience many places.

The 50 rupee trick also did not work for PCB. How will it work when you make phatta and flat road wickets in test cricket? Nobody wants to see 700 runs scored on day 1 in such a heat. Make it interesting, and facilitate the people.

No one, absolutely no one is interested in this game atm.

Things might get better as the day progresses but it is an alarming situation for PCB.

Believe me, it is not easy to bear that heat of pindi. Crazy fans for sure.
Hardly any spectators at the ground so why not give them seats under the Roof .

I know different price for there but anyway those are empty seats.

Can't blame Pakistani awaam for this. Pathetic facilities, these stadiums are decades behind rest of the world.

Sorry I forgot the sold out games against Bangladesh in India in Test Cricket.

We had very good crowds against England and Australia. Noone will come to see us play Bangladesh.

There are no crowds for any opponent in Pakistan. And you need to go back and see the 2019 BD tour of India. There was plenty of crowd on day 1.

please rewatch Pak v Eng or Pak v Aus in Pindo or Multan.

how can you blame the crowd when we have pitches like these for the batters to make merry.

Zilch facilities and searing heat , who in their right mind would turn up , why not make it D/N. Add to it the lack of superstars in the team nobody is interested in 80 ball 50, and trundles operating at 135kph

The crowd will start building when the game gets more and more interesting. Pakistan can make it happen if they somehow get 20 wickets.

Mid 90s temperature in this venue. Why not have some shade for spectators? Concrete will get hot and reflect heat.

They prefer people to sit on concrete slabs as they say in our culture it's good to sit on the floors so they're preaching what they preach.

Sitting on floor may be fine if it's on grass, but it will be very unconfortable to sit on concrete when temp is mid 90s.

I see shoaib akthar enclosure may be he can pitch in for some shade and chairs. That would be a great gesture

I am not sure if I would have watched this team play, even if it was free. Just looking at the scorecard, never thought BD would cross 500 wich such ease.

Empty stadium. PINDI crowd, where are you?

I had attended all matches including the tests in pindi prior to this series, but finally gave up going to this pathetic venue during the last PSL. Fans had been complaining lack of facilities ever since the return of cricket in the country, but no actions taken. Now dont blame the fans. I doubt you will ever see full house in pindi again even in the PSL or CT. Team performance, ticket prices etc are absolutey not an issue. All the fans want good entertainment and enjoyable time, instead they get hours of khwari, long walks, security checks, concrete seating, burning hot sun, no water or food. Anyone who attended one game never dared to attend another. Now we have reached to a point where all the fans in the city had experienced this once.
PS: i just realized watching cricket on tv in Pakistan is equally torturing as going to the venue. So many ads, crappy picture quality. Had to subscribe to a paid streaming service to enjoy test cricket over the weekend from the comfort of my home which is located at 20 minutes drive from the venue.

Cricinfo reported today that we're paying $18000/month to the 5 mentors in this new Champions Cup in a 3 year contract.

Over time apparently it works out to be half the value of PCB's next TV deal. That money instead should be invested in these archaic grounds.

PCB had 10 years to prepare for the return of international cricket but apart from a few minor changes, the facilities remain the same.

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium without crowd is a proof of Pakistani fans heavily disappointed by Pakistan Cricket Team.
