Russel is a good pick for Multan.

Although there is some controversy over his signing, given that he initially wasn't available for the whole tournament.

Sad to see Saif Badar or Zeeshan Malik not being given a chance as the 21st pick.

Excellent pick by Quetta.

Get a back up for Naseem Shah and Irfan jnr is better than ghulam.

This is exactly the pick they needed.

Hopefully, Naveed Malik gets picked up because he deserves it and not sure why Saad was picked because he isn't a T20 player at all.

As i said, if franchises can't select 20 players on merit they aren't going to select the 21st player on merit. 21st player is always an afterthought on PSL management's part which is indicative of their incompetence.

Russell, Vince and Smith added to HBL PSL 2019 star power

· Hardus Viljoen and David Wiese scooped by Qalandars; Andre Fletcher bagged by Zalmi

· “Russell is a proven match-winner and we are confident that he will bring the same match-winning instinct to our dressing room this season,” says Multan Sultans captain Shoaib Malik

· “Smith brings a wealth of experience with him and will be extremely valuable for us in the top-order in the UAE-leg of HBL PSL 2019,” says Quetta Gladiators’ coach Moin Khan

The star-studded player roster of HBL PSL 2019 received a further boost with the addition of the Windies T20 star trio of Andre Russell, Dwayne Smith and Andre Fletcher, in-form England top-order batsman James Vince, and South Africa’s duo of Hardus Viljeon and David Wise at the Replacement Player Draft in Lahore on Thursday.

Russell, the champion all-rounder, was picked by Multan Sultans as a replacement for an injured Australia batsman Steve Smith. Russell had played for Islamabad United in 2018 and will be available for the first seven matches in the UAE before returning to the Caribbean.

“HBL PSL is a quality tournament and I look forward to reuniting with some of the top international cricketers in 2019,” said Russell.

“Multan Sultans have picked a very balanced squad this year and I am glad that I will have a chance to share the dressing room with Pakistani stalwarts Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi,” he added.

The Sultans also scooped England batsmanJames Vince to replace his fellow countryman Joe Denly, who will be on national duty in the West Indies. Vince has amassed 4,166 runs in 161 T20 matches at an average of 29.75. He will look to replicate the form that saw him score two back-to-back half-centuries for Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League in Australia.

“We had to deal with the double blow of losing out on Steve Smith and Joe Denly, but we are delighted that we have been able to bring in Andre Russell and James Vince,” said Multan Sultans captain Shoaib Malik.

“Russell is one of the best T20 cricketers in the world and we are confident that he will bring his match-winning instinct to our dressing room this season.

“Vince is a player we have kept our eyes on for a while now. We have picked him based on his consistent performances and we are very excited to see what he can do for Multan Sultans.

Quetta Gladiators have snapped up veteran West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Smith as cover for Dwayne Bravo from 14 to 27 February. Smith has played for Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi in the previous seasons.

“Smith brings a wealth of experience with him and will be extremely valuable for us in the top-order for the UAE-leg of HBL PSL 2019,” said Quetta Gladiators coach Moin Khan.

Lahore Qalandars have opted for South Africa’s duo of Hardus Viljoen and David Wiese as cover for Corey Anderson and Carlos Brathwaite. Anderson will arrive late due to his domestic commitments, while Brathwaite is expected to be a part of the squad for the T20 series against England. In addition to the two, AB de Villiers is also available until 10 March.

West Indies batsman Andre Fletcher has returned to Peshawar Zalmi as a replacement for Waqar Salamkheil, who has withdrawn due to his Afghanistan commitments.

Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans are eligible to name partial replacements for Chris Jordan and Nicholas Pooran, respectively. The two players are expected to be involved in the T20 series between England and West Indies in March.

Earlier, in a bid to encourage local talent, four of the six teams also named their local players to their squads. These are:

o Lahore Qalandars - Saad Ali (middle-order batsman)

o Multan Sultans - Hammad Azam (all-rounder)

o Quetta Gladiators - Mohammad Irfan Jr (fast bowler)

o Karachi Kings - Umer Khan (left-arm spinner)

Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United did not make their picks but may add one local player each at a later stage.

Funny how players like misbah get selected for T20s but players like Imran Nazir are left out.

What is the funny part in it? Imran Nazir hasnt played for years now - how is that he even comparable to Misbah?

Is this the left arm fast bowler Irfan (who played for LQ and then KK) ? Who is Umer Khan? Islamabad and Peshawar still have to name their 21st pick?

There is no one in the name of irfan who is left arm fast apart from Mohammed irfan .this is the irfan (right arm medium with akward action)who played for karachi king last year .

Umer khan is left arm spinner who is just 17 year old

A) Imran Nazir is 37 years old, 7 years younger than Misbah ul Haq

B) Misbah’s last T20 game was in March 2018, hasn’t played in any other T20 league.

C) Imran Nazir is made for this format, one of Pakistan’s most destructive batsmen can’t get into the PSL but a 44 year old who isn’t known to be aggressive gets selected.

If you are a franchise owner, and you had the option of selecting either Misbah or Nazir, are you telling me that you’d pick Misbah? Think about it.

How many games has Nazir played since his comeback and what were his performances?

I don't want Misbah to play the PSL either, but he's a regular in domestic cricket and is fit enough to play at least.

Nazir isn't.

MS have done the best business when it comes to replacement players, although AR is not available for whole tournament.

21st picks are largely disappointing tbh:

LQ: Why is Saad picked for T20 tournament, that too ahead of more deserving players? Also LQ needed bowlers so poor from a tactical POV.

MS: Hammad given yet another chance but all evidence points to him being a bottler. Also a lot will depend on if MS play him as a batsman or try to use him as a pseudo all rounder. If the latter, good luck! MS already have two quality ARs so personally think they should have gone for a specialist top order batsman or bowler.

QG: Have actually addressed the area that needed strengthening, QG mean business! That said, think there were better options (Ahmed Bashir e.t.c).

KK: Seems a smart pick, as they don't have a left arm spinner in the squad. Unlikely he will get much game time though. Still question marks over KK's lower order batting.

KK’s captain is a left arm spinner.
