Pakistan Super League 2020 - Crowd Watch

Sold out! most of the matches shouldve been in Faisalabad, Pindi and Multan.

Sold out! most of the matches shouldve been in Faisalabad, Pindi and Multan.

Defeats the purpose of home and away games nor does it promote proper support if the home fans don't see their team. Karachi and Lahore were still 70 percent full which considering how much cricket they've seen isn't bad.

Bazid and Waqar discussing the best city crowd lmao, Waqar throwing his support behind Multan ofcourse, and fair play to them they filled it up today.

Not many posts here today, think that people should appreciate a sold out, after all the moaning during the first leg

Beautiful to see a full stadium like this.
Like I said many times when we will have a only home/away matches there is no reason we will not have decent crowds.

I am sure we already have more crowds than half of a UAE PSL.

Crowd has been great this PSL especially pindi and Multan. Revenue will be great and can be spent on the stadiums and training facilities.

Extremely energetic crowds of Multan and Pindi. Looked pretty full too. Psl truly back in Pakistan. I cant believe we actually played in the dead grounds of the UAE. To think of all the thrillers with 3 people cheering on.

Another full house. Where is the poster who kept posting pathetic pictures with circles outline for the supposed empty spaces even tho both Lahore and Karachi got full 80%. :))

Multan has been great... Lahore and Karachi wer expected to be full houses but dissapointed. Where as so far Multan has been thr best followed by pindi

Lahore and Karachi were full 70-80% and for cities who have seen a lot of cricket of recent and suffered from cricket fatigue did very well. Beats the sh1t empty bowls in UAE.

Not the right thread to mention this but the 2nd match tonight in pindi will be a washout. No chance of any play whatsoever. I live just 10 mins away from Pindi Stadium & it's raining quite heavily here since last night. Although atm light drizzle is going on but it's expected to start raining heavily around 7.

It showing as 30% chance for rain on bbc at 7pm

Oh wow..

And RWP ground is pathetic, it will be soaked wet...

So a match definitely not happening ? What about tomorrow's match ??

Heavy rain predicted tomorrow as well. So probably not going to happen.

Need to diversify and play the games in other stadiums in Pakistan to generate bigger crowds

Best thing about the matches in Pakistan is that PCB could generate at least 6 to 8 million dollars by having almost full grounds

THIS Multan crowd is Electric.

Amazing crowd.

I just hope PCB can install seats in the stands. It really can’t be that expensive. Poor crowd had to stand most of the time. You just can not sit long enough on those cement bricks.

Wish there were more matches in Multan. Easily the best stadium in Pakistan.

Although Multan will soon be dethroned by Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar, then that will be dethroned by Rafi Stadium.

Lahoris and karachites should be ashamed after the immense support and passion the pindi and multan crowds have shown.

The multan crowd today was the best in any PSL match in history so far. The roar after every wicket in the second innings was insane. And when Tahir got Watson, such a good moment. Danny’s commentary was great too.

Scenes in Multan for HBL PSL fixtures were extraordinary, says Wasim Khan

• “High-profile cricket was returning to Multan after a long gap of 12 years and the people of Multan well and truly embraced its return,” says the PCB Chief Executive

Lahore, 1 March 2020:

Approximately 80,000 fans crossed the turnstiles to welcome HBL Pakistan Super League in Multan. The three fixtures played across four days – which marked the first time of the league being held in Multan – saw rousing crowds at the 24,800-capacity Multan Cricket Stadium support not only the home side but also the touring parties.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had promised in 2019 to stage the HBL PSL, one of the most-watched T20 leagues across the globe, in Multan which is in line with its policy to take cricket in every nook and corner of the country and make the game accessible to fans all across the country.

For the very purpose, the PCB had earmarked PKR2billion for the renovation of the cricket stadiums in Multan and Rawalpindi, with a big chunk of it was invested on the Multan Cricket Stadium.

With the last international match in Multan being 12 years ago, that it was the right move was underscored by the humongous turnouts – which had almost the same number as in the stands waiting outside the gates to watch their cricketing heroes. Whether in post-match press conferences or in other interactions, both local and foreign squad members mentioned the resounding cheers of energetic fans.

Multan Sultans, the home team, made the four days memorable for the fans by winning all three matches against Peshawar Zalmi (six wickets), Karachi Kings (52 runs) and Quetta Gladiators (30 runs).

Andy Flower, the head coach of Multan Sultans, said: “Our stay in Multan has been a memorable one, thanks to the warmth and hospitality of the people of Multan. The support of the crowd was phenomenal in all three games and I hope that the home fans are proud of the performances that we put up before them.

“The atmosphere in the stadium was electric throughout all the matches and the fans showed great passion and love for the game.

“I would definitely rate this venue as one of the best ones in the world and look forward to coming back with Multan soon.”

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan said: “High-profile cricket was returning to Multan after a long gap of 12 years and the people of Multan well and truly embraced its return. The scenes at the Multan Cricket Stadium were extraordinary and each and every fan in the stands made their presence felt by cheering every shot and wicket.

“These scenes, however, were not only limited to the stands. People in Multan have serious passion for cricket and one could feel that in every part of the city.

“The addition of another venue in the HBL PSL roaster must have delighted every Pakistan cricket fan. This is yet another major milestone in the PCB’s efforts to return to normalcy and that Multan leg of the HBL PSL turned out to be a success is largely due to the cricket-loving people of the city.

“These are the encouraging signs for the PCB and our next aim is to bring international cricket back to the city.”

Full houses, brilliant atmosphere and some great cricket. Having only 3 matches in Multan was clearly a mistake. However one thing is certain, Multan should definitely host lots more matches in future PSL tournaments.

I believe that Multan should get atleast two more games to reflect MS's 5 home games. I think the more we can move to somewhat of a truer home and away system, the better. Hopefully the Arbab Niaz stadium is ready next year InshAllah and the security situation allows for cricket to take place there. We may see similar scenes there InshAllah.

Life in bigger cities has become so fast. People will find it hard to manage 8 hours for a routine 4 hours match.

I guess a 5km afternoon-drive in Lahore takes 30-40 minutes and 1 hour in evening . Add parking chaos and that's straight 3 hours for going to and comig back from stadium, plus time consumed for security.

8th housefull this season so far

I hope the tears from the whinos have stopped.

Excuses galore in this thread.

PSL is a mediocre league, tbh. We are not even close to IPL. Thats a fact. But its hard to swallow because of our national pride. IPL has great quality, which attracts crowds. While, our presentation was limited to lip syncing battle and Fakhar e Alam making strange noises while calling out names of players.

PSL needs devillers, warner, smith, maxwell, buttler, kohli, other indian players to really shine. Don't even get me started on quality of bowlers in IPL, especially Indian bowlers now acing rankings as well

Not a good turnout at all for a home game.

So many excuses being made

That's why I said we overestimate the hunger for cricket. Desis have other things on their minds and some even don't think cricket is worth that money.

Just hope the security costs + closing of half of the city isn't more than the income they will generate.

Pakistan is not a cricket crazy country like India or Bangladesh. Interest in cricket in Pak is less than that of India and Bangladesh. Even when cricket was normal thing in Pak in 2000's, the stadiums were not full. So this is the best you are gonna get.

I hope the tears have stopped. The crocodiles are missing on this thread.

Esp the Adil guy and his paint jobs even tho even then the grounds were 70-80 percent full despite seeing tons of cricket last yr or so. :)) As for the rest minamino and Liam are Indians so their opinions here don't matter anyway

Well done Rawalpindi and Multan! Full grounds. Lahoris and Karachi people can learn and hopefully follow.

Nice to see full house. PSL just become a little better with Steyn! Love the intensity <3

It is 17000 seater. They 25k figure was for sitting on concrete
Once they install the permanent seats it will be maximum of 18k.

Its pitty such a big stadium on 17k seats
They should expand it to at least 30k by having 2nd tiers before installing the seats

I am not a big fan of increasing capacity, then you will be faced with the problem of some empty stands. Make sure that the Supply is less than the Demand.

Multan and pindi have shown their passion and support not lets see if Karachi and lahore can learn something from them and fill up the stands for their remaining matches

Pindi crowd is great

Great crowd in test matches as well compared to Karachi

Obviously easier to fill up a 15-16k stadium and also make it look fuller compared to a 35k stadium, but your hate for Karachi doesn't let you think objectively.

Ground looks like almost 90% full which on weekday & considering the performance of the home team is very good.

Karachi is a 20 million+ people city. You are not being objective

My mom family is from Karachi(urdu speaking) and my dad is from Haripur, I visit Karachi every year to meet my cousins. :))).

Nothing against Karachi but Pindi boys are the most passionate cricket fans. Pakistan Cup 2019 was held in Pindi, the crowd was pretty amazing for a List A tournament

It was safe to assume dislike for Karachi, when said poster brought in Karachi for no reason and that too for test matches while PSL is going on and National Stadium has been full 70-80% throughout the PSL.

No league in the world (including the IPL) sees full houses in every game.

The crowd in Lahore tonight has been great. Pindi has been brilliant. No words needed for Multan.

Karachi has also had good crowds so far. Last year all 8 games were full houses.
