Revealing the pick order for the first round of the PSL Draft for 2021

For once i had forgotten what is Pakistan super league. PSL is the name that is embedded in minds :))

Islamabad has got first pick so better be good one

I am not sure if it will happen but would like Babar to captain in PSL and as said before PCB should make sure of that either with a clause or retention policies. In every other league national captain leads a team. Also KK should release Moh Rizwan as he is usually benched.

HBL Pakistan Super League 2021 local players categories renewed

• Pakistan captain Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shadab Khan feature in 13-man local Platinum list

• Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain, Hasan Ali, Shan Masood feature in Diamond list

• Transfer and retention window for HBL PSL 2021 is now open

Lahore, 24 December 2020:

The HBL Pakistan Super League 2021 is set to showcase Pakistan’s best talent once again as categories of the players who took part in the HBL PSL 2020 have now been finalised.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who was the Player of the Tournament in the 2020 edition after scoring 473 runs in 12 matches, is joined by Karachi Kings teammates Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir in the Platinum category.

Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan continues in the Platinum category as his teammate Faheem Ashraf moves down to the Diamond category for the HBL PSL 2021.

Peshawar Zalmi trio of Kamran Akmal, Shoaib Malik and Wahab Riaz have been placed in the Platinum category while fast bowler Hasan Ali moves to the Diamond category.

Multan Sultans captain Shan Masood has moved up to the Diamond category with his impressive performances across HBL PSL 2020 and the National T20 Cup. Shan’s teammates Shahid Afridi and Sohail Tanvir have been placed in the Platinum category.

Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is in the Platinum category while fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain moves up from Gold to Diamond after ending as Quetta’s leading wicket-taker in the HBL PSL 2020 with 15 wickets.

Fakhar Zaman, who ended up as the second highest scorer in the HBL PSL 2020 with 325 runs in 12 matches for Lahore Qalandars, continues in the Platinum category where he is joined by teammates Mohammad Hafeez and Shaheen Shah Afridi, the highest wicket-taker of HBL PSL 2020.

Qalandars pacer Haris Rauf’s meteoric rise continues as the fast bowler moves up from Gold to Diamond. He is the leading wicket-taker in 2020 with 57 scalps at 19.57.

With the category renewal process and pick order finalised, the transfer and retention window is now officially open.
As part of the category renewal process, franchise representatives were required to vote for every player. Teams were not allowed to vote for their own players but submit review requests at the end of this voting stage.

The list was then reviewed by Director – High Performance Nadeem Khan and GM Commercial Imran Ahmed Khan, who has been leading player acquisition for HBL PSL since 2017. Factors including national team performances, domestic performances and perceived T20 brand value were considered while finalising local players’ categories.

Director Commercial Babar Hamid: “The category renewals for the local players is a key step towards the delivery of the HBL Pakistan Super League 2021. The renewals were done on the basis of structured and meritorious criteria with an aim of providing fair and equal opportunity to all local players in what is one of the most followed and competitive cricket leagues in the world.

“I am sure that like the previous five seasons we will see top-quality performances from our local players and a lot of young players will get a wonderful opportunity of showcasing their talents and progressing to the international stage by their exposure to a platform like the HBL PSL.”

The category renewals did not apply to those players who were drafted in HBL PSL 2020 Playoffs in November. These players will be part of the overall player pool that will be available for selection at the HBL PSL Player Draft.

Players who have represented Pakistan in any format have been assigned a base category of Gold.

U23 players cannot be part of a squad as an Emerging player for more than two years unless they have played three or less matches in those two years.

Teams can now send relegation requests for the players before finalising retentions. After a relegation request is floated, all other teams are given a chance to meet the player’s base category. If no team matches the player’s base category, the player may be relegated to a category below his base category.

The list of players not part of the HBL PSL 2020 will be released separately.

How are Junaid Khan and Mohammad Irfan in the diamond category? They should be in the Farigh category

Do these Franchises ever do some research before selecting players?
How come these Asad Shafiq, Yasir Shah, Jaahid Ali, Irfan, etc get selected.

Islamabad needs some fast bowlers. Batting is not an issue, just select some Australian or English batsmen. We can outsource our batting to them. SHadab is also a good batsmen.

Amad Butt and Rumman Raees are just rubbish. Rumman Raees was good but after that injury hasn't been the same.

Amad Butt has been there for long time, but is yet to show a performance. Its a shame that every psl he is not even capable of being in the starting.

Saif Badar seems to be a waste of space.

We need Iftikhar back, and have to get 2 pace bowlers

Why Qalandar holding on to Salman Butt and Abid Ali

Didnt Salman Butt take retirement from cricket? Why is LQ still so persistent to keep him? :haider

Do these Franchises ever do some research before selecting players?
How come these Asad Shafiq, Yasir Shah, Jaahid Ali, Irfan, etc get selected.

Why Qalandar holding on to Salman Butt and Abid Ali

These are just categories, not the final squads. Those will be decided after the retention and transfer process along with the draft later on.

Thing is Karachi Kings last year moved Imad to Diamond to adjust him, Babar and Amir in the team. I dont think this should be allowed as otherwise LQ, PZ can do the same by moving one of their local platinum players to diamond and synthetically keep all 3 local platinum players.

For retentions change in category of any player shouldnt be allowed.

The players are only listed under their team last season.

Thanks. I realized that afterwards that its just the category classification of the players in the squads from last year.

Probably will see the usual combination of pensioners and T20 journeymen.

Some reports that all of the matches may be split between Karachi and Lahore.

Reports indicate that

1. Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be played in just two venues, Karachi and Lahore, due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation

2. all the franchises have cleared their dues to become eligible to field their teams in the 2021 PSL scheduled for February-March.

3. PCB will cut 20% to 25% from previous salary caps for the PSL 6
Salary cap for platinum category proposed to be between $130,000-$170,000
Teams will have $50,000 for supplementary pick, another $30,000 for commercial expenditure

So this is how a player’s category can be downgraded during retention.

Didn't expect that at all.

Karachi: Director National High-Performance Center (NHPC) Nadeem Khan has revealed that the crowd will not be part of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six and the matches will be played behind closed doors.

Former Test spinner said that the season will be played on time while the foreign stars have also confirmed their availability.

“According to plan, there would be no involvement of the public in this year’s PSL, however, we are monitoring the situation as the time is progressing,” Nadeem said.

“If possible, we will look to hold matches in a minimum crowd if the COVID situation improves,” he added.

It must be noted that the CEO Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Wasim Khan said in an interview last month that the league’s draft will be held in the first week of January while the tournament will commence from February 20th to March 21st just like the last season

The pick order for this year’s draft was also confirmed last week and two-time winners Islamabad United will have the first-round platinum picks this time around.

Where is Abdullah Shafique here?

With the history of LQ decision making, definitely expect a bizarre replacement.

Such is the legacy of AJ that anyone who remotely follows PSL knows that there is nothing that AJ can't do, yet Lahore Qalandars stick to him.

LQ in its shorts existence have fires Paddy Upton, not renewed its contract with Brendon McCullum, dropped Umar Akmal yet the one guy who has been consistently poor is still their head coach and it seems he is not going anywhere.
Saj , MenInG have you guys ever had a chance to interview Rana brothers, have you ever asked them about Aaquib's role and how poor he has been for them and are they looking for his replacement?

Everyone pays for their job at LQ accept AJ. Rana brothers seem to have a bit too much faith in him.

They have a lot of belief in Aaqib and back him all the way.

He's their guy in the dressing room too.

Really excited to see the Draft List, hopefully it comes out in a few days.

With the T20 WC coming around, and a lack of cricket in 2020, a lot of big stars would potentially be looking at the PSL to gain some rhythm, and also get to play in some familiar conditions as India.

I'd like to see the likes of Ben Stokes, Johnny Bairstow, Aaron Finch, David Warner, Trent Boult, Rashid Khan, Glenn Maxwell, De Kock, Kagiso Rabada, and more enter the PSL.

Warner is the least likely along with Rashid Khan. Ben Stokes might not play because of the Ind vs Eng series. Rabada mentioned in an interview that he would like to play as well. Glenn Maxwell might be tempted to play because of all the hate he received from the IPL. De Kock is touring in January, and if the tour goes well he might consider it as well.

Hopefully we see some big names.

Karachi needs a good spinner and a finisher.

I know PSL is necessary and all for revenue, ego and attention, but really think Pakistan's attention on long form game is just not there and it is showing year on year.

This is not a draft list, just category renewal of the players who were part of the squads last season. Draft list will be announced after the transfers and retentions.

Do you know if the draft will be live and when will it be held it states first week fo January but not the date

Do you know if the draft will be live and when will it be held it states first week fo January but not the date

As per some media sources its going to take place on 10th of Jan 2021 in Karachi. Draft lists most likely be coming out in next few days/ next week.

It is always held live, with the current world scenario I am not sure if it will be done by having owners and team managements present virtually or maybe there will be just selective people allowed with the an environment of social distancing.

Reports indicate that draft for the upcoming edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be held on January 9

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has adopted a firm stance with regards to payment of fees, for the next season of Pakistan Super League (PSL), by the franchises. According to media reports, the PCB has told the franchises that they will be forced to take strict action, which includes termination of contracts, if the fee is not paid within the next 21 days. A notice has also been issued to all the franchises in this regard. The PCB and PSL franchises are currently in the process of discussing a revised financial model, which suits both parties. This and the financial strain caused by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic was the reason behind the delay in submission of franchise fee for the sixth edition of the PSL.

As far as the PSL financial model is concerned, the PCB had send two proposals to the franchises on December 22 and also a third and final one, after further discussion, on December 30. After the final proposal, PCB has clearly told the franchises that they should accept or reject the proposed model by January 6 while also stating that no further discussion will take place in this regard.

Reports further stated that the current development has put both parties at odds once again and the franchises are currently discussing their next course of action. According to the revised financial model, the exchange rate for fees is fixed, in line with value at December 31, 2020, at $161 for the next 14 years. The dollar rate is a major cause of concern for the franchises, due to increasing expenses, because at the time they bought the team, the rate was 104. Few days back, PCB had agreed to fix the rate at 138 but that is no longer the case.

This process of taking fees will continue till the central income pool has risen to Rs.7 billion, after subtracting expenses, or PSL 20 ¬— whichever is earlier. During this period, franchises will get 92.5 per cent share from commercial contracts while the remained will be kept by the PCB. After this phase has passed, the PCB will not take franchise fee for the next 30 years but share of commercial contracts will switch to 70 and 30 per cent between the PCB and franchises, respectively. The franchise owners are not convinced with this as they want this ratio be 60:40, which is similar to what happens in the Indian Premier League.

It must be noted that the current contract between PCB and the franchises is for 10 years, after which the franchises fee will increase by 25 per cent. In terms of commercial contracts, the revenue sharing ratio is between 60-95 per cent in favour of the franchises. When PCB Media Director Samiul Hassan Burney was approached on the matter, he confirmed that PCB had sent notices to franchises, regarding payment of fees, but said that there was no such thing as far as termination of contracts is concerned.

David Miller, Rashid Khan, Chris Gayle feature in HBL PSL 2021 Platinum roster

• Star-studded Platinum list also includes ICC T20I number one batsman Dawid Malan, Dwayne Bravo, Chris Lynn, Alex Hales, Morne Morkel, Mohammad Nabi, Imran Tahir, Dale Steyn, Tom Banton, and Chris Jordan

• HBL PSL Player Draft for the 2021 edition to take place in Lahore on January 10

Lahore, 5 January 2021:

Chris Gayle, Chris Lynn, Rashid Khan and Dale Steyn are some of the leading foreign players who have made themselves available for the sixth edition of HBL Pakistan Super League. The quartet is part of a 25-player Platinum roster of foreign players ahead of the HBL PSL Player Draft that will be held in Lahore on January 10.

The six franchises will now be making key trade and retention decisions before the Draft, with each team allowed a maximum of eight retentions ahead of the Draft.

With a packed international calendar during the February – March window this year, some of the foreign players will only be partially available for the competition.

The ICC T20I Player of the Decade Rashid Khan will be one of the major attractions of the Draft; the Afghanistan leg-spinner has bagged a total of 338 wickets in 244 T20 games besides his staggering T20I numbers of 89 wickets in 48 matches.

South African batsman David Miller, a veteran of 320 T20 matches, will be one of the most sought after players for the franchises. Miller is yet to feature in the HBL PSL.

West Indian T20 legend Chris Gayle who has represented Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars in earlier HBL PSL editions is another major attraction on the list along with the number one ranked ICC T20I Batsman Dawid Malan who was part of the Islamabad United squad in HBL PSL 2020.

Australian Chris Lynn who scored 284 runs at 40.57 (strike-rate 179.74) for Qalandars last season is also part of the Platinum list and could be a possible retention option for the Qalandars ahead of the Draft.

The West Indian representation on the Platinum list also includes Dwayne Bravo who has represented Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators in the HBL PSL along with Carlos Brathwaite (stints with Qalandars and Zalmi), Lendl Simmons (Kings and Zalmi) and Evin Lewis.

The list also includes South Africa’s Morne Morkel and Rassie van der Dussen who are both yet to feature in the HBL PSL. The South African representation in the list also includes Imran Tahir (Multan Sultans), Colin Ingram (Kings and United), Rilee Rossouw (Gladiators and Sultans) and Dale Steyn (United).

Besides Malan, England’s Alex Hales who was part of the Kings’ winning squad in last year’s edition is also in the list. Moeen Ali (Sultans), Chris Jordan (Zalmi and Kings) and Tom Banton (Zalmi) are also part of the Platinum roster.

Spinner Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and all-rounder Mohammad Nabi (Gladiators) are the two other Afghanistan players on the list along with Rashid.

Sri Lanka’s Thisara Perera (Gladiators and Sultan) and Isuru Udana also feature on the list.

Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman and Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichanne who have both played for Qalandars in the past complete the list.

Director Commercial Babar Hamid: “We are delighted to release a star-studded list of players in the Platinum category even though we are dealing with an unprecedented situation due to Covid-19 and player availabilities are also hampered by a packed FTP calendar.

“The HBL Pakistan Super League 2021 will be another exciting season once again being played in Pakistan. The quality of players on the list is a further testament of the credibility and integrity of the league as it continues to attract the best T20 talent from around the world.

“In the coming days, we will work as hard as ever on successful delivery of the event with all stakeholders as we are determined and focussed on producing another world-class event while raising the bar higher and ensuring the safety and security of all participants.”

Not too many overseas stars available. That's not good.

If I'm not mistaken, all the Afghan cricketers will be unavailable due to a series at the same time.

Don't see too many big names either apart from Gayle.

Disappointing, I was expecting more players. The tours coincide with the time duration of PSL, so that's a bit unfortunate.

Underwhelming tbh

Standouts:

Lendl Simmons
David Malan
David Miller
Rassie Van Der Dussen
Chris Lynn
Isuru Udana
Rashid Khan

Very underwhelming. However, this is the platinum category, and there might be some good names later on as well, so let's hope for the best.

Definitely should cut the number of foreign players per XI down to 2 this season imo.

I definitely don't think the overseas names are that bad, in fact some are pretty good specially with the amount of international cricket that will be happening.

In a way that's good, some of the best foreign players won't go unsold. From what I remember teams are allowed to have very few platinum players. Though not aware if they can retain old ones or not.

Apart from David Miller no new big name

I'm surprised Eoin morgan isn't there

Right off the bat, you can take out the Afghan players. They will be playing series against Ireland, Zimbabwe and India in the Feb-Mar timeframe.

England players will be unavailable because of their series in India which also goes from Feb-Mar. And the tests are before the T20Is.

Mustafizur will be available for the latter part of the tournament because of Bangladesh's limited overs series in NZ.

That leaves:

Simmons
Gayle
Braithwaite
Lewis
Bravo
Hales
Ingram
Tahir
Rossouw
Miller
van der Dussen
Morkel
Steyn
Lynn
Perera
Udana
Lamichanne

Pretty decent line-up. Many very good players will sadly go unsold unless they demote themselves to a lesser category.

England players will be unavailable because of their series in India which also goes from Feb-Mar. And the tests are before the T20Is.

Mustafizur will be available for the latter part of the tournament because of Bangladesh's limited overs series in NZ.

That leaves:

Simmons
Gayle
Braithwaite
Lewis
Bravo
Hales
Ingram
Tahir
Rossouw
Miller
van der Dussen
Morkel
Steyn
Lynn
Perera
Udana
Lamichanne

Pretty decent line-up. Many very good players will sadly go unsold unless they demote themselves to a lesser category.

Correction: Mustafizur will NOT be available for the latter part of the tournament.

Afg vs Zimbabwe was pushed to late Jan 2021. Venues are still being looked at so even for late Jan tour is not yet finalized.

While India is hosting Eng from Feb 5 to March 28 so even for that I am not sure if their 3 ODI series against Afghanistan is confirmed for that time yet.

If tours coincide with the PSL, why would you expect more players?

He's saying that because Islamabad has the 1st pick.

I was hoping to see AB de Villiers but he's not there unfortunately. Also thought that there was a chance of the likes of Russell and Pollard, but that doesn't seem likely either. Maybe Narine as well.

Every player in that bottom row could get into the current Pakistan team.

95% of the players in the platinum category play in the IPL

In a way that's good, some of the best foreign players won't go unsold. From what I remember teams are allowed to have very few platinum players. Though not aware if they can retain old ones or not.

Really good opportunity for domestic players to step up in my opinion.

I'm interested in the performances of:

Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Abdullah Shafique, Haider Ali, Khushdil Shah, Iftikhar Ahmed, Usman Qadir, Arshad Iqbal, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Azam Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed, and Mohammad Hasnain.

Let's remember what we need from this PSL season:

1 opening batsman slot for contention (Abdullah won't cut it in my opinion, should look towards Sharjeel or another option who does well.)

No.5 and 6 slots are available, one of which has to be a finisher and the other preferably a wicket-keeper who can also hit the ball well. If Malik does well, you can pretty much guarantee that he's gonna take the 5 slot because we don't have anyone with as much experience and skill at that position. 6 is an open slot, so the likes of Khushdil, Danish, Azam, and Iftikhar will compete for it.

We need a full-time spinner, Shadab won't cut it, though I will also be paying attention to his bowling and batting. I'm looking at Usman Qadir, Zafar Gohar, and others to take that spot of the spinner.

We need a quick to come good because there are a multitude of options we can take. Shaheen's spot is guaranteed, but the other two aren't necessarily. Rauf will need to bowl really well to keep his spot, and the likes of Hasan Ali, Mohammad Hasnain, Wahab Riaz, and Mohammad Amir will compete for the last slot. Now before you say that Amir won't play, he said under this management. I think we'll soon see the last of Misbah when we lose this match, and alongside him, we'll be fortunate to see Waqar Younis go as well.

Some key points to mention are that Pakistan will have a lot of depth if we go into the WC with the following team:

Babar Azam (c)
Sharjeel/Rizwan/Abdullah/Others
Haider Ali
Mohammad Hafeez
Shoaib Malik
Azam Khan/Sarfaraz Ahmed
Imad Wasim/Iftikhar Ahmed
Shadab Khan (vc)
Hasan Ali/Mohammad Hasnain
Mohammad Amir/Haris Rauf
Shaheen Shah Afridi

That looks like a pretty solid squad, and we should look for people to fill in the holes I mentioned above. We could actually compete in a T20 WC with this squad.

For IU, as Rashid Khan won't be available probably, Dwayne Bravo seems like the first option as they already have a middle order option in Colin Ingram that would make Miller a bit of an overkill.
Wanted to see Duminy in the list as well.

IU should go for Miller or Lewis. Their batting is weak and with no Ronchi this season either they will need firepower at the top of the order.

Will be interesting to see which side picks Gayle. If any side picks him at all.

Premier players will always choose IPL first then look at BBL before thinking of PSL. It's a big risk for them as playing in the PSL could mean no IPL in that year.

Also there is a limit to all these leagues so some of the premier players would rather take a break and play in the IPL than featuring in the PSL.

Like SA, Eng the PSL will also have to rely on local talent. Fortunately Pakistan does have some good local T20 players.

Glad to see Miller,Gayle,Rashid Khan, and Van Der Dussen. Hope they get picked up.

I’m beginning to agree with MMHS on having PSL during the IPL window, as long as it remains profitable in broadcasting numbers. At least we’ll have the IPL left overs who are better than this platinum selection.

The sole model of that league is to create a monopoly and it will take a lot of intelligence from us to form a niche market of any considerable value outside the borders of Pakistan. I doubt that anyone in our setup has the creative flair and analytical approach to challenge the status quo here. Also, with the ten team tournament, it would open more foreign player spots which will now be around 55 or so. That's the entire cream of foreign stars and not much will be left after the selections are made.

I feel the moment to run PSL parallel to this league is over. The best that we can do is become a feeder league and then try to creep into its space by running one or two weeks parallel to it when we reach the business end of our tournament. More English players played the PSL last year than any other nation yet there was a total media blackout or minimum stories making the news channels. We couldn't even manage a deal with Sky which probably has some exclusivity clause contract with the other league which is the only plausible explanation of total media blackout for us.

For PSL to survive, this is the time to plan the next 5 to 10 years of the league otherwise it will eventually just become a slightly glorified national t20 cup. It's high time that the PCB launch their own content platform that they can monetize themselves and make money off of it. A digital app targeting overseas Pakistanis that gives them access to exclusive content at a monthly or yearly fee is the way to go. I feel people would be willing to pay US$ 10 per year to subscribe to the app and if we somehow manage to get a million people to do so over the next three years, that's where the revenue will come from. PCB needs to stop giving free content through YouTube which also happens to be managed by a company "Dot Republic" that publishes all of PCB's content on other channels that do not fall under the PCB trademark.

Now we just have to create a product, package the league, and upscale the operation before other leagues and our incompetency take that market away from us.

All the 25 players in Platinum category play in IPL except Hales, Malan, Rassie, Russouw, Morkel, Thisara Parera and Simmons. We both know even these are not shabby players.

I am not sure if better 25 players can be part of the platinum list by having PSL during IPL window, correct me if I am wrong. I can only think of handful names but, cant think of 25 players in Platinum (Diamond is yet to be announced) to better this. Also there is no guarantee that everyone not playing IPL would be available.

GoUgandaCranes we need to achieve maturity within the Pakistan market. In addition to overseas Pakistanis, the domestic market has potential but is relatively untapped, maybe 10% of what it could be. Most middle and upper class folks are relatively oblivious to the PSL, it’s only the cricket crazed population that watch the matches while others follow results on social media or through news headlines on Geo, ARY.

If we can mature the market, we will be able to secure better sponsorship offers and better broadcasting deals - this in turn means more competitive pay packages and better players.

I do think if we displace BBL as second most prestigious league (we are already ahead in terms of quality, but not in repute), PSL can secure its own T20 window by 2025. However, this requires a lot of hard work and planning.
Titan24 I don’t disagree, it’s a pretty decent roster. Still, it says a lot when Tom Banton is a platinum contract player.

HBL PSL 2021 schedule announced

• Karachi Kings to launch title defence against Quetta Gladiators at the National Stadium on 20 February; final at the Gaddafi Stadium on 22 March

• Due to Covid-19 pandemic and to ensure health and safety of all participants by limiting unnecessary movement, 34-matches to be equally played in Karachi and Lahore

• All sides to play equal number of day and evening matches; double-headers scheduled on weekends

• Decision on crowd attendances to be made closer to time after seeking government advice and clearance

Lahore, 8 January 2021:

Karachi Kings will begin from where they finished their successful HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 campaign by taking on 2019 champions Quetta Gladiators in the opening fixture of the 2021 edition at the National Stadium on 20 February.

On the following day, 2020 finalists Lahore Qalandars will take on 2017 winners Peshawar Zalmi in a day fixture, while two-time winners Islamabad United will square off against Multan Sultans in the evening.

The 30-day 34-match tournament will culminate with the final at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on 22 March, marking the first time the venue will stage the final since 2017.

To safeguard the integrity of the HBL PSL 2021 and to ensure health and safety of all participants in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the PCB has decided to hold the matches in Karachi and Lahore only. The National Stadium will stage the first half of the competition, while the Pakistan cricket headquarters at the Gaddafi Stadium will be the venue of the second half of the competition, including the playoffs.

With regards to crowd attendances, since Covid-19 is an evolving situation, a decision will be made closer to time though the event organisers are continuously monitoring the situation and remain in close contact with the concerned government officials.

While preparing the event schedule, the organisers have ensured each side is playing equal number of day and evening matches. Also, the event organisers have tried to make optimum use of the weekends while scheduling double-headers that will ensure maximum following and coverage.

The Support Period for the HBL PSL 2021 will commence from 15 February and the foreign players competing in the league will arrive into Karachi with a negative PCR test. Upon arrival, they will require two more negative PCR tests before being allowed to train and compete in the competition. The asymptomatic players or support staff returning a positive test will have to serve a five-day isolation period with RT-PCR tests on day one and four.

Babar Hamid, Director – Commercial: “We are delighted to announce the schedule of our marquee event – the HBL Pakistan Super League, which for the second successive season will be held in Pakistan in its entirety.

“We had to make the tough decision to limit matches to Karachi and Lahore, and this decision has been taken in the larger interest of the event, participants and the country. We want to limit the unnecessary exposure of the players as much as practically possible so that the players can operate in a safe and healthy environment that, in turn, will allow them to continue to entertain the fans and followers with their talent, skills and gamesmanship.

“The crowds in Multan and Rawalpindi were awesome last year and we owe a big thanks to them for their contribution in making the HBL PSL 2020 a resounding success. I am sure when life returns to normal, the two cities will get their share of matches as the PCB remains committed and determined to stage matches of the HBL PSL at as many venues as possible.

“Apart from the competitors, the PCB also has a duty of care towards the spectators. Although we have a couple of options on the table, the PCB will continue to monitor the situation and delay the decision as late as possible on crowd attendances as for the PCB, health and lives are of utmost importance.

“As for the six franchisees and the event organisers, the schedule announcement gives them an opportunity to start planning for the tournament. While the six sides will be finalising their squads at the upcoming players’ Draft, the PCB has already been working hard on event planning and now is time to change gears so that we can strengthen our reputation and credibility as a high-performing board.”

What's wrong in playing in Pindi?

Its easier to maintain bio secure bubble at two venues so thats why Pindi, Multan and others are not as venues currently. No confirmation of crowd so to be honest it doesnt make much of a difference.

Both of these and most probably Peshawar as well will be venues in the next PSL when hopefully the situation of the world would be better.

They need to get Bugti Stadium fixed up asap so we can have proper home and away games for all teams.
