BT sports recently won the rights to host Australian home matches for 5 years.

They are currently showing the SA vs Aus series, will show the Ashes next year and will also show Pakistan vs Australia later this year.

Majority of Sky Sports customers will feel hard done by since they are already forced to pay a small fortune every month to get Sky Sports, however, now if you want to watch all the cricket you have to get BT sports as well.

WIth that being said - what's the best (legal) way to get BT Sports?

On Sky the BT sports package is pretty expensive. Is there some sort of online deal available with BT to view the sports channels online? If so - has anyone tried it?

Sorry this doesn't answer your question but damn, I was looking forward to watching it on Sky Sports.

Absolutely same here!

I was on Sky Sports now looking for hilights of SA vs Aus game when I realised it's all on BT Sports now :(

Luckily Pakistan vs New Zealand will be on Sky Sports In-Shaa-Allah

I think I get the BT Sport channels free with the Virgin Media box otherwise I'd be annoyed.

I have an old orange pay as you go sim, providing it's still active would I be eligible or is it only EE members on contract?

No harm in giving it a shot :)

If you have an EE sim try texting "SPORT" to 150 and they will either message you back says my:
You're just a few steps away from being able to watch live BT Sport on your EE phone or connected tablet, free for 6 months! Then it's just £5 a month or cancel at any time. The BT Sport app is available on iOS, Android and Windows 10. For info and terms visit ee.co.uk/btsport . To start your free 6 months, reply YES to this message. Offer available until 29th November 2016.

Or they may text you back and say the sims not eligible - either way, no harm in trying :)

Haha yea man that's what I was thinking :))

On the link it says "Pick a phone, sim or tablet" so technically that should cover PAYG as well.

Here's the instruction for new customers:

New customers
Choose a phone, a SIM or a tablet
Pick a plan
Choose BT Sport as an extra in your basket
Enjoy the BT Sport app free for six months
4GEE Max customers get 24 months BT Sport app access - learn more >

Basically I'd have to get a sim only contract and I'd consider that but I don't think my tablet takes sim cards and to go on the BT Sports app you can only do that through an EE sim on a smartphone (my phone screen isn't big) or a tablet

BT's coverage of the South Africa series has been excellent so far, with Ponting and Vaughan providing great insight. It's been miles better than the drab fare served up by Sky in recent years for non-England matches as part of a cost-cutting exercise to allow them to pay for the football.

Yeah, I watched some of yesterday's play and I was pleasantly surprised. Channel 9 will keep doing that annoying banter filled boy's club rubbish for commentators so they'll get Waqar and Ramiz, would love BT to get Bazid into the studio for analysis.

.....that was once ruled by England - you never know it may work :afaq:))

Ah that reminds me! Think I'll be in Canada at the same time as the 2nd Test In-Shaa-Allah. Any idea who's covering it across there? Willow?

I agree, Sky sports has good coverage for England matches but when England aren't involved all they really do is show the match and have no discussion whatsoever. Furthermore, the BT sports room layout is snazzy

Why are you people in UK complaining?

You get to watch several cricket series a year through your cable provider and STB boxes whereas us Canadians 100% of the time are streaming the games.

Really?

Really?

Because these sports channels which show the cricket matches cost a small fortune and usually have 12 month subscriptions.

To get Sky sports it costs £25-30/month

To add BT Sports to that it's an additional £22/month

That's almost £50/month for 12 month. That's approx 80-85CAD/month.

As a result some fans are no doubt forced to go down the streaming route aswell.

No way man, I'm totally jealous of you guys because I would definitely pay that much money any day of the week to watch some good old cricket on Sky or BT Sports.

Having subscription to a cricket channel that you can switch to from your cable box is much much easier and the quality is superb I bet it is also a natural HD stream.

All I'm trying to say is, We don't get that here in Canada.

I think it was only available in November bro :(

However now they are offerening 3 months free to pay monthly and tablet customers:

http://ee.co.uk/why-ee/bt-sport

I have this deal but you can only watch on smartphone or tablet. I will now leave Virgin Media broadband and move over to BT so I can get the channels free with the package. BT also show Champions League and PL matches too. : )

So if i got a sim today then BT Sport would be free?

It needs to be on a contract, not pay as you go and you will only have access to the BT sports app meaning you'll also need a tablet where you can insert your contract sim. You don't get the BT sports channel just the app from which you can watch the cricket :yk rubbish deal unless you already have a tablet where you can insert your sim and don't mind watching the cricket on a small screen, but then again to get the free 3 months you'd need to be on a contract with EE the jobber network, so you got to ask yourself is it really worth it?

This is a damn shame, you can only get acsess to BT sports channel or watch it online if you get their broadband or one of their TV packages. At least sky had that deal with Now Tv which gives you a pass to watch online for a week or even a day, we could have selectively watched certain games or days; plus you don;t need to spend much either. I hate streams but that's all we'll be left with.
