Schedule for Pakistan T20I tour to Ireland announced. This series serves as a preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

The two sides are building up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June, and will meet each other on 16 June 2024 in the first Group Stage of the tournament.

Schedule for Ireland vs Pakistan series:

10 May, 2024: First T20I at Clontarf

12 May, 2024: Second T20I at Clontarf

14 May, 2024: Third T20I at Clontarf

I hate it! We are always playing second grade sides in meaningless matches. Where are the three or more test series' versus top sides? I don't care if we never play India but surely should do other sides more often. We are always caught up with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Ireland and Afghanistan.

Ireland tour aroound the corner and no update on these guys yet. Pakistan squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England is close to being finalized, pending updates on the fitness of four injured players: Haris Rauf, Azam Khan, Mohammad Rizwan, and Irfan Khan Niazi.

Ireland’s cricketers have rejected contract offers made to them by the sport’s governing body in the build-up to their upcoming series at home against Pakistan.

Last week, the Irish male players opted to decline terms offered by Cricket Ireland. Ireland women, who finished an unsuccessful T20 World Cup qualifying campaign on Sunday, have yet to decide on the most recent offer having opted to instead focus on their qualification attempt.

On Friday, the Irish home summer begins with a three-match T20 series between the Ireland men and Pakistan at Clontarf. Ireland will travel to the USA to begin their T20 World Cup campaign early next month.

At the end of the last calendar year, when it emerged that Cricket Ireland would receive a funding increase from the International Cricket Council (ICC), Irish players started discussing pay rises with their employer. The Irish Cricketers’ Association (ICA), a union for the players, negotiates on their behalf.

Cricket Ireland only became aware of the exact amount of funding coming their way from the ICC in March, after the expiration of last year’s central contracts. Ireland have played a number of fixtures after March 1st, including a maiden Test victory over Afghanistan, but with no contracts for 2024 in place, these matches took place with players operating under last year’s terms which have rolled over indefinitely. Players agreed to continue to train and play under last year’s salaries in order to preserve fixtures and to continue to access benefits such as injury cover.

Cricket Ireland had initially planned to access an extra $1.5 million in ICC funding ahead of schedule, but this did not happen. The cost of hosting matches abroad, which Ireland will do when playing South Africa in the UAE in the autumn, also increased. As a result of these unforeseen financial events, Cricket Ireland was forced to readdress their budget for 2024.

The board did not sign off on this year’s budgetary plans until last month. This delayed both the announcement of fixtures for the home summer and contract discussions with the players.

Negotiations have continued since then, with the most recent offer being rejected by the male playing group last week. Until contracts for 2024 are agreed, players will remain on last year’s terms. Any difference in salary that is ultimately agreed will be backdated to March 1st when this year’s contracts were supposed to begin.

After the upcoming three-match series against Pakistan, Ireland travel to the Netherlands for a tri-series against the Dutch and Scotland. Their T20 World Cup campaign begins against India on June 5th in New York. Ireland will also play Canada, the USA and Pakistan while in America.

Ireland women are next in action in August at home to Sri Lanka. They also welcome England in September but a provisional series against the Netherlands is now unlikely to go ahead after T20 World Cup qualification and a resulting participation fee from the ICC was not secured.

Cricket Ireland declined to comment on the negotiations. The ICA was also contacted for comment.

The two sides took plenty from their three-match series in Ireland and will be full of confidence heading into the T20 World Cup

Pakistan and Ireland believe their recent T20I series in Dublin will hold them in good stead for next month's ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Pakistan clinched a narrow 2-1 series triumph with a six-wicket triumph over Ireland on Tuesday and now travel to England for a four-match series against the reigning T20 World Cup champions ahead of the tournament in the USA and West Indies.

Pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi was in excellent touch during the Ireland series, with the left-armer collecting figures of 3/14 in the final match to finish as the leading wicket-taker across the series with seven scalps at an average of 12.71.

Shaheen paid tribute to the efforts of Babar and Rizwan and believes the series in Ireland has his team primed to perform well at the T20 World Cup

"For us, before the World Cup, it's important to have these games to ready ourselves and there are a few areas to improve," Afridi said.

"They're both world-class players (Babar and Rizwan); they know how to play their role and they have done really well on this pitch."

The form of Babar in particular will please Pakistan ahead of the T20 World Cup, with the skipper's innings of 75 coming from just 42 deliveries and featuring a joint career-best five sixes and an excellent strike-rate of 178.57.

Babar smashed four sixes from one Ben White over to put Pakistan in the ascendancy, combining with Rizwan for a partnership of 139 for the second wicket.

"We had good communication in the middle because we have played a lot of cricket together; we were trying to play on our strengths and the aim was to match with the run rate," Babar noted.

"Lots of positives for us to take and we were able to execute our plans.

"We have a big tournament coming up and this is good practice; we are now looking forward to the England series."

While Ireland were disappointed to lose the series, they will be buoyed by the performances of a host of their players as they head into another T20 World Cup campaign.

Andy Balbirnie was in good touch at the top of Ireland’s batting order, tall right-arm seamer Mark Adair collected five wickets and Lorcan Tucker hit a superb 73 in the final game of the series when filling in as captain for usual skipper Paul Stirling who was rested.

Tucker revealed he enjoyed deputising for Stirling during the series decider and the 27-year-old said there were plenty of positives for his side to take into the T20 World Cup

"It was brilliant and a great privilege to captain," Tucker said. "It would have been nice to start with a win.

"We set up a platform nicely but unfortunately, we couldn't finish well. We gave everyone a go with the ball. Credit to the lads, they bowled well in tough conditions.

"Maybe it was a bit disappointing with the result but we had positives from the series."

Bro I 100% agree.

My issue is it takes time to build a team. Their wasn't anything wrong with a side that won 29 games and only had 3 losses.

Their is everything wrong with a side that Misbah shoved his bhoota in, a side that hasn't won a series until now and that too against Ireland, B string Ireland at that lol, they only played their full strength 1st game, after that they changed and tested their bench strength.

But even if we beat them 3-0 and you made the argument it was full strength Ireland, the way azam Khan was keeping, Saim was batting, How Pakistan was fielding, our amazing captain deciding to bowl 4 pacers due to having a dusmani against spin.
