Lahore, 3 May 2024: The Pakistan Cricket Board today announced details of its tour to South Africa for three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests in the second half of 2024.

Durban, Centurion, and Johannesburg will host the T20Is from 10-14 December. The ODIs will be played from 17-22 December in Paarl, Cape Town, and Johannesburg, while the two ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 matches will be held at Centurion (26-30 December) and Cape Town (3-7 January).

The side will depart for Durban on 2 December after returning from Australia on 19 November, having featured in a series of three ODIs and three T20Is from 4-18 November. After completing their African safari on 8 January, the national side will take on New Zealand and South Africa in a three-nation ODI tournament on home turf, which will be followed by the eight-team ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan.

Prior to the tours of Australia and South Africa, Pakistan will host Bangladesh and England for two and three Tests, respectively. This means they will play seven Tests, minimum of 10 ODIs, and six T20Is in the six-month period from August 2024 to January 2025.

This will be Pakistan’s seventh Test tour of South Africa since 1994-95. Their two Test wins were in the 1997-98 and 2006-2007 series. In the Durban Test in 1997-98, Pakistan won by 29 runs at the back of centuries from Azhar Mahmood (132) and Saeed Anwar (118), match figures of nine for 149 by Mushtaq Ahmed and a first innings five-fer by Shoaib Akhtar. In the 2006-2007 Port Elizabeth Test, Pakistan won by five wickets with Inzamam-ul-Haq being named as Player of the Match for his 92 in the first innings.

In ODIs, Pakistan has won two of the last three series in 2013-2014 and 2020-21, while South Africa triumphed in 2002-2003 (4-1), 2006-2007 (3-1), 2012-2013 (3-2), and 2018-2019 (3-2).

In 12 T20Is to date, Pakistan leads 6-5 in head-to-head encounters, with one match ending in no-result.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has today revealed an exciting schedule for the 2024/25 international home season.

The Proteas Men will take on Sri Lanka in two Tests and Pakistan in an all-format tour, while the Proteas Women are set to host England for a multi-format tour.

CSA CEO, Pholetsi Moseki commented: “As we eagerly anticipate the 2024/25 home international season, it once again holds the promise of exhilarating encounters.

“As we open our doors to esteemed cricketing nations like Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and England, we not only showcase the talent and competitiveness of South African cricket but also celebrate the global appeal and camaraderie inherent in our beloved sport.

“These fixtures serve as a platform to not just compete, but to foster bonds between nations, uniting players and fans alike in the shared love for cricket,” he concluded.

2 Tests only

Joke
Test cricket was never the priority for them in recent times. Remember the squad they sent to new Zealand?

T20 cricket is taking over this sport too fast.

But it’s a home Test series for them this time. They won’t want to lose to this Pakistan side.

They might have a better squad for this tour considering there is no IPL or any other league going around. But still, 2 tests are not enough, should be at leat 3 or 4.

Imagine facing Nandre Burger on those decks for 4 Tests? Our players will be in hospitals by the end of the tour

Disappointed to see only 2 test matches. WE always played 3 test series in SAF. But i think now no SENA country is interested in playing more than 2 test match series against Pakistan because of lack of quality our test side produce and no competetion

Expect some serious chitar on these pitches , won't see our batting holding up on these wickets and the quicks they have .

Test cricket is finished in South Africa. The fans don't care about it at all. They only want white ball cricket.

It's easy to just blame them...Do you think it's a priority for us?

Pakistan can finally win a Test once again in South Africa. Shaheen and Naseem can probably win the series as well.

South Africa are a nothing side in this format now.

SAF is a blockbuster side in ODI and T20s but very weak in test matches despite having good quality players. Once they used to be the best cricketing sides in the world during smith captaincy period.

2 Tests only

Joke
Sa cricket board assured all players will be available for the sa t20 league franchises which starts after the test series. So sa trimmed the test series length to 2 for all the opponents including india.even in t20s and odis ,u will see half of the random people and a dummy side But test will have some regulars atleast.

get ready for the most bouncy tour guys...

Hopefully Pak team can reapeat what they did in 2013 in South Africa.

SA is moving away from Tests. They don’t make money playing tests. Recently they sent their C team to NZ tour. it’s a shame because since their comeback in 1992 they have been one of the most exciting test teams.

2 Tests? This is ridiculous. We need to play at least 3 test series. And try for 4 test series. I know t20Is make more money, but nothing beats following a test match.

Even a two test series would have been enough... if they had played four, Pakistan will surely loose the series 4-0

KLAASEN TO LEAD PROTEAS IN KFC T20I SERIES AGAINST PAKISTAN

Wednesday, 04 December 2024

JOHANNESBURG: White-ball head coach Rob Walter has today announced a 15-player squad for the three-match KFC T20 International (T20I) series against Pakistan, scheduled from 10 – 14 December.

Heinrich Klaasen will captain the side in the absence of Aiden Markram, who is currently involved in the Test series against Sri Lanka.

Markram, along with all-format players Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada and Tristan Stubbs, will miss the T20I series due to the quick turnaround between the two series. They will return for the One-Day International series against Pakistan in preparation for next year’s ICC Champions Trophy.

Dafabet Warriors fast bowler Anrich Nortje and Momentum Multiply Titans spinner Tabraiz Shamsi return to the T20I side for the first time since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

World Sports Betting Western Province all-rounder George Linde has also been named in the squad, marking his return to the T20I set-up after last playing in July 2021 against Ireland. The 33-year-old, who has 14 T20I caps, had an impressive run in this season’s CSA T20 Challenge, amassing 171 runs at a strike-rate of 178.12 and claiming nine wickets at an average of 18.33.

The squad will begin preparations with a two-day camp at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria from 06 – 08 December, before heading to Durban on Sunday, 08 December. The first match will take place at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium on Tuesday, 10 December, followed by back-to-back games at SuperSport Park, Centurion and the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on 13 and 14 December respectively.

Commenting on the squad, Walter said: “All 15 players are capped, and we’re looking to build on the experience within the group as we continue to grow as a unit.

“In the absence of Aiden, Heinrich will lead the team. He is a vastly experienced player with a strong understanding and reading of the game. We look forward to utilising him in this role after his previous experiences in 2021.

"We have also given George an opportunity again. He really earned his spot off the back of a strong domestic campaign, and his skills as a spinning all-rounder add important balance to the team.

"We're pleased to have Anrich and Tabraiz back in the squad. Their wealth of experience and skill significantly bolsters our bowling unit, enhancing both our pace and spin departments, which will be key against a strong Pakistan side.”

SQUAD ANNOUNCED FOR ODI SERIES AGAINST PAKISTAN

Thursday, 12 December 2024

JOHANNESBURG: White-ball head coach Rob Walter has today announced a strong 15-player squad for the upcoming three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan, scheduled from 17- 22 December.

DP World Lions seamer Kwena Maphaka has earned his maiden call-up to the 50-over setup. The 18-year-old, already capped in T20 Internationals, has displayed immense promise having been named Player of the Tournament at the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup earlier this year after taking 21 wickets at an average of 9.71.

His stocks have only continued to rise since then, propelling him into the senior national team where he has already featured four times for South Africa.

Maphaka will join Kagiso Rabada, who makes his return to the ODI squad for the first time since the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup semi-final against Australia in November. The squad also features Hollywoodbets Dolphins fast bowler Ottneil Baartman, alongside all-rounders Marco Jansen and Andile Phehlukwayo.

In the batting department, the squad, led by Temba Bavuma, is bolstered by the return of David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen, who last featured in an ODI in December 2023 against India.

The series begins on Tuesday, 17 December at Boland Park in Paarl. The second ODI will take place at World Sports Betting Newlands on Thursday, 19 December, followed by the annual Pink Day and final ODI on Sunday, 22 December at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

This series will serve as preparation ahead of next year’s ICC Champions Trophy.

Commenting on the squad, Walter said: “We have named our strongest squad available, with each player capable of being a match-winner on their day, and we are extremely excited to see how this group performs together.

“The bowling line-up features one of the fastest in the game in KG, and this series offers another great opportunity for a young talent like Kwena to come in and learn first-hand from the best.

“In the batting department, we are thrilled to welcome back David and Heinrich, two of the most destructive players in the game.

“Overall, we are very pleased with this squad. This series will be crucial in fine-tuning our combinations ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy next year, and we are looking forward to the challenge.”

SQUAD ANNOUNCED FOR TEST SERIES AGAINST PAKISTAN

Red-ball head coach Shukri Conrad has today announced a 16-player squad for the two-match Test series against Pakistan, starting at SuperSport Park on Thursday, 26 December.

Momentum Multiply Titans seamer Corbin Bosch has earned his maiden call-up to the Test side. The 30-year-old has been in fine form in first-class cricket, boasting an overall tally of 72 wickets at an average of 36.75 and an economy rate of 3.24 across 34 matches. He also averages over 40 with the bat, showcasing his all-round ability. Bosch recently featured in the SA Invitational XI side that defeated England Lions in Cape Town.

Joining him in the squad is uncapped DP World Lions seamer Kwena Maphaka, who was part of the squad for the second Test against Sri Lanka.

DP World Lions all-rounder Wiaan Mulder has also been included squad as he completes the final phase of his recovery from a fractured right middle finger, which kept him out of the second Test against Sri Lanka. If Mulder is selected for the first Test, Dafabet Warriors batter Matthew Breetzke will be released from the squad.

Meanwhile, Keshav Maharaj sustained an acute groin strain on Tuesday during warm-ups ahead of the first One-Day International against Pakistan at Boland Park in Paarl. He will undergo a scan on Wednesday to determine the severity of the injury.

Test captain Temba Bavuma will lead the side in what marks the final Test series of the summer and the ICC World Test Championship 2023-2025 cycle, where South Africa currently occupy top spot.

Commenting on the squad, Shukri said: “We head into this series with a clear focus, with a spot in the World Test Championship Final being the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. We’ve selected a squad which gives us the best chance to achieve that.

"It’s an exciting time for South African cricket and we're particularly looking forward to this battle against Pakistan. They always pose a strong threat with the talented fast bowlers they produce and I expect it to be no different this time around.

“In terms of our own squad, we have added Corbin to the mix. His all-round ability with both bat and ball adds depth and his pace brings an extra bite to our attack, so we’re excited to see him make that step up to Test cricket.

"Dane Paterson really impressed us against Sri Lanka and we look forward to seeing him again. Overall, the pace attack is a really good one. We are keeping a close eye on Kesh (Keshav Maharaj) and hope his injury is not too serious.

"A lot of the batters stood up when they were needed against Sri Lanka and this is another opportunity for all of them to showcase what they can do against a good Pakistan bowling attack."

Proteas Test squad against Pakistan:

Temba Bavuma (captain, DP World Lions), David Bedingham (World Sports Betting Western Province), Corbin Bosch (Momentum Multiply Titans), Matthew Breetzke (Dafabet Warriors), Tony de Zorzi (World Sports Betting Western Province), Marco Jansen (Renault North West Dragons), Keshav Maharaj (Hollywoodbets Dolphins), Kwena Maphaka (DP World Lions), Aiden Markram (Momentum Multiply Titans), Wiaan Mulder (DP World Lions), Senuran Muthusamy (Dafabet Warriors), Dane Paterson (World Sports Betting Western Province), Kagiso Rabada (DP World Lions), Ryan Rickelton (DP World Lions), Tristan Stubbs (Dafabet Warriors), and Kyle Verreynne (World Sports Betting Western Province).

Good solid sqaud for South africa. They are not gonna take any risks with WTC final on the line. Pakistan is going no where against staffers in TEsts.

Jokes aside, Baartman is actually a decent bowler. One over from Saim taking him down doesn’t change that.

No George Linde in the squad especially when Maharaj has an injury scare. Interesting

I wonder which bowler will be made into superman this tour like Kyle Abbott in 2013 & Duanne Olivier in 2019.

Kwena Paphaka or Dane Paterson?

They have Muthuswamy in the squad.

Also, Centurion and Cape Town are not spin friendly venues.

They will likely a 4 man pace attack at both venues.

They will probably play 3 seamers, an all-rounder, & a spinner in all likelihood (depending on the fitness of Mulder). Four seamers is a risk, weakens the batting line-up so I'm not sure it'd be the way to go. In the past they always had someone like a Pollock or Kallis so going with 4 seamers was never hard, & even then they played players like Adams, Symcox, & Pieterson. In fact, Pak lost a test because of the all-round abilities of Pieterson & Symcox helped them win a series against Pak in Pak.

Linde has a good record against Pak in T20s, that's why I thought they'd ask him to keep his bag ready if Maharaj doesn't make it.

If the pitches are anything like they were last time at these 2 venues , they can easily just go in with 4 quicks and get Markram to bowl a bit.

Tests won't last long.

The pitch for the last test against Sri Lanka was fairly balanced. If they dish out similar pitches, I don't think PAK stands much of a chance. Even in the first test, I would put Sri Lanka's record-breaking low score down more to some incompetent batting rather than the pitch being really difficult to bat on.

Somehow though I have a feeling that Cape Town deck will be spicy.

I was talking about Centurion and Cape Town where Pakistan are playing this time.

These are the same venues where India played last time .

Saffers played 4 quicks at Centurion. They brought Maharaj as the 5th bowler in Cape Town but he was barely used and the pitch was extremely seam friendly and match got over in 3 days.

SL played at Durban and PE? Spin plays a decent role at both those venues.

Not so much at Centurion, Wanderers and Cape Town
