Asked to bat first, the West Indies put up a competitive 173 for 7 from their 20 overs. Shimron Hetmyer top-scored with a brisk 48 off 32 balls, striking four fours and three sixes. Rovman Powell chipped in with 29 from 25 deliveries, while opener Brandon King made a rapid 27 off 16 balls, including five boundaries and a six. Captain Roston Chase also contributed 22 off 18 balls with two fours.

South Africa’s bowling was led by George Linde, who returned impressive figures of 3 for 25 in his four overs. Keshav Maharaj and Corbin Bosch provided strong support, claiming two wickets each.

In reply, the Proteas made light work of the chase, reaching the target in 17.5 overs with only one wicket down. Markram anchored the innings with an unbeaten 86 from 47 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes. Ryan Rickelton added a steady 40 off 32 balls, while opener Lhuan-dre Pretorius impressed with 44 from 28 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and a six.

Roston Chase was the lone wicket-taker for the West Indies, as the rest of the bowling attack failed to trouble the South African batters.

The second T20I of the series is scheduled to be played in Centurion on Thursday.
