Pakistan v Australia in Semi-Final : Imad Wasim or Hassan Ali vs David Warner?

Now that we know Pak will play Aus in the semi final, a burning question is who will share the new ball for Pakistan against Warner in red hot form?

Imad has done well thus far but his struggles against left handed batsmen is well documented. Was giving Hassan Ali the new ball against Namibia a strategy to prepare for this ordeal vs Warner? Remains to be known.
On the other hand, Hassan has looked slightly off color in the tournament and good in patches but we all know Hassan’s got the skills to surprise Aus.
Who do you think should get the new ball and why?
 
Neither. Hafeez should bowl 2 overs upfront, his record against left handers is stellar
 
I think if we just execute our own plans rather than worrying about the opposition then we should be good.


Imad and Shaheen opening has been great for us. It gives us an early iron grip on the match as the opposition is in just survival mode in the first couple of overs.


If anything we may need to do something about Hasan Ali. He is the biggest chink in our armour.

Not feeling good about this match. Pakistan has a poor record against Australia in the semis of any WC. Australia is a very veteran team under pressure and they are coming from a tough group wheras Pakistan had an easier group.

Man to Man Australia is the better side on paper. Pakistani middle order is untested if the law of averages catches up with Babar and Rizwan, our bowlers all wilt under pressure when attacked by world class aggressive batsmen.

I think Pakistan has over achieved in this WC.
 
Warner will eat Hassan Ali alive. Hafeez to Warner is Pakistan's best chance.
 
Shaheen and Imad should open the bowling. No need to change anything
 
Pakistan has played better than expected.I was convinced We won't make it to semi finals.I will be happy if Pakistan put up a good fight against Australia.Winning and losing is part of the game.
 
Pakistan have never beaten Australia in an ICC knockout game, have they ? Ominous signs.

Aaron Finch has a great record against off spinners though. Depends on the conditions, let Shaheen bowl the first over, if he gets some movement I would go with Hasan Ali from the other end. Australia has a weak middle and lower order, get Warner and Finch early and they would be in trouble.
 
We can and should beat Australia. 2 things concern me.

1. We are due a bad game.

2. The psychological hurdle of beating Australia in a WC game.

Maxwell is due. Australia definitely the most dangerous team we can face after England and India.

They need to play Nawaz in Scotland game if they are thinking of him for Australia game
 
Keep the same opening combo.

Finch is more in form and dangerous of the two atm.

Pak need to get Finch and Maxwell quickly.

Hafeez will take care of Warner, but need someone to get Finch early for that to happen.
 
Hafeez is your best bet. I remember Raza the spinner troubled Warner and co in UAE , probably around 2013-2014. So this means Nawaz also could be effective although he's not that s good batter compared to Imad or Hafeez
 
Shaheen takes the first over and needs to get rid of Finch.

If not, he needs to keep Warner on strike so Imad can take on Finch.

Because of his technique, Finch misses the ball that skids inwards, so Imad stands a chance.

Warner is a different beast, Hafeez will need to deal with him if not Shaheen.

Rauf and Hasan should be able to take Smith, Marsh, and Stoinis.

Maxwell needs to be bowled back of a length by Rauf.
 
Hassan needs to keep his foot behind the line more than worry about Finch and Warner lol
 
I'm not feeling great about this game at all. Australia has a very formidable team with Warner and Finch both hitting crazy good forms now. On top of that there is an element of big match player associated with Maxwell whilst Steve Smith has basically bossed us throughout his career. If we look further i have a good feeling Hazlewood will eat our top order alive. If Hazlewood nips out Rizwan and Babar in powerplay then we would barely crawl our way to 140 which would be easily chaseable.

Australia are clear favourites

I wouldn’t mind England in the Semis right now. They only have one decent fast bowler in Jordan, and are missing Roy now.
 
However

If we could deal with India in Dubai, we can definitely deal with Australia in Dubai as well IA

Rauf and Hassan aren't even playing the same sport right now
 
Hafeez should open the bowling with Afridi. I would say Hafeez should bowl at least 2 overs, so we dont need to rely on Hassan Ali as much.

Have Hassan open the bowling with one over and use Hafeez and Shadab for the remaining three

Finch will feast on Hafeez, and without chucking he's unlikely to trouble Warner too much either. Imad is probably the better option. If you saw yesterday's game between Aus and WI, Akeal Hosein, who bowl very similarly to Imad, troubled both Warner and Finch and got Finch out.
 
If Pakistan ends up batting first then there's a very good chance that Starc/Hazelwood will open up Pakistan middle order in the powerplay itself and end up winning the match. Pakistan's best chance is to bowl first and restrict Australia to under 145.

Yes, this could be a possibility but it depends on the track as well.

The reason for bringing Nawaz could be to deter against a potential collapse at this stage of the tournament.

If Hasan Ali goes for runs against Scotland, then I think they'll need to replace him with Nawaz on a dry wicket, or Wasim Jr. on a pacy wicket.
 
Pakistan will beat the Kangaroo out of Australia.. They are playing awesome cricket. Hassan Ali will get back in form God Willing
 
Toss is the big factor in this tournament. Hope Australia wins the toss and fields first. They can easily beat Pakistan.
 
We are going all the way! Aussies and England are tough opponents...but I'm getting that 2009 and 2017 feeling. :)
 
Think Shaheen will get rid of Warner. Not a good idea to go after Warner with spinners at start.

Our batting is more comfortable with pace and Australia has only one good spinner in Zampa who hasn’t been tested against the like of Shoaib Malik spin playing abilities yet
 
I would take a punt oh Hassan. He bowls with a good seam action and despite not doing well so far, he's a big match player. So is Imad for that matter, I just think the savvy cricketers will know that 80% of his deliveries are going to be the straight one, and slog him accordingly.

That said, Imad has delivered time and time again, so maybe we should give him more credit. He has tremendous control with flight and length. Would be happy with either given the new ball.
 
People are underestimating this pakistan side, aus are good but pak are the daddy in these conditions.

It was kind of funny when eoin morgan said eng and aus are second fav after ind.
 
It’s sad to see all the Asian teams including us have failed to take advantage of spinning track. Sena teams are dominating us in our home grounds.
Both Eng and Aus has been master in this format where we are still struggling to take advantage of power play. We seriously need proper power hitters in order to be top 3.
 
Has Hafeez bowled at all since the IND game? He may be needed here and if on song his two overs may help pin or extract DW’s wicket.

A game of fine margins - Finch initially struggled against Imad in some T20Is but the started hitting him straight back and did well against him.

Curious how Babar / Rizwan will do against ُStarc and Hazlewood. If either falls early it may send the dressing room into panic mode. Batting first it may be OK to aim for 170 with wickets in hand up front.

Who are their 5 bowlers? Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood, Zampa and..? Marsh and / or Maxwell? Only need one to two overs of 18-20 runs late in the innings.
 
There will be no change in the line up and Hafeez will get Warner in the powerplay

Imad has developed the Carrom ball which may be handy ( just like Zazai wicket)
 
Let Shaheen bowl the first over. He hasn't taken a wicket in the first over since India. He is due a wicket in the first over as suggested by his record. 1 in 3.

I was actually watching the pavillion and Misbah was saying that we should not be worried and take confidence from the fact that we have beaten Australia comfortably 3-0 in our last t20i series in UAE in day night matches.

Yes Aus lineup is significantly different now, but they are necessarily not a better team in UAE than Pak.

Warner has got runs against SL and WI only this wt20i. We have a far better bowling lineup than both. Hopefully we will win the match.
 
This will be a good match I would put Pakistan as slight favourites.
The contest between Shaheen and the two openers will be good contest.

Also the contest between Babar and Rizwan vs starc and Hazelwood will be mouthwatering.

2nd Imad, again try to get one out if righty esp.
(Alternate if ball swung for Shaheen in 1st over and Warner on facing end give it to Hasan or Rauf who also have good record against lefties and try to use the swing if they get it)
3rd over hafeez if warner is on strike, else Shaheen
4th over imad
5th over hafeez if warner still on strike and he did okay in first over, else Hasan or Rauf
6th over imad, unless he got smashed then go with any alternate.
7th onwards spin from both ends for 3 to 4 overs to get into their middle order.
 
Need to get Warner early or he will destroy us. Need to start the over with Shaheen.

Like your thinking - Finch is venerable against inswing. However, it all depends on the day. Aussies have an upper hand in my opinion just because of the bowling strength. Shorts balls will be a test for Pakistan batters
 
Finch got a major problem with the ball coming in so Shaheen should be able to nip him out in the first over. From there on, bring on Hafeez for Warner.

On topic, I feel Warner would have been my man of the match if not for last over heroics of Wade. Warner set the tone and pushed Pakistan back with a mastery I haven't seen since Lara against Waqar and Sehwag against well...pretty much all Pakistani bowlers.
