So a comfortable win in the 1st game.

The XI looks perfect to me so not sure if any changes needed unless Rizwan is unfit?

I would rest Naseem and give Hasnain a go. Naseem bowled a lot of overs in that last test.

Let's continue with the same combination as we can be world no.1 if we whitewash them.

Hasnain for Haris Rauf is the only change I would make, but Babar will give Rauf another chance as he came back from injury and most likely will bowl better next match.

Wouldn’t rest Naseem

He is developing really well

The fact we don't play international cricket for a long time after this series there is no need to rest Naseem when he is in form.

I do not see it happening, but Tayyab Tahir and Kamran Ghulam need to be given a chance (ideally both remaing games), and Dahani, and Hasnain, should come in for atleast 1 game if possible.

Rest Naseem & Rauf for Dhani & Hasnain. Also give Tayyab Tahir a go.

But why? Naseem only played a couple of Test last couple of months and has hardly bowled in his ODI career. Rauf has barely bowled last couple of months.

ODI WC is due, it's time for Pakistan to start finalizing its combination and they should aim to win the ODI series vs NZ. Haven't won an ODI series against them since when, 2011?

They should roll with the same combination. If the series is won, then sure, maybe you can look to rest a few players for the last match.

After this series, there is already a break until PSL and then its a break again until April when they play NZ again. Not really a busy schedule after that either with nothing scheduled in June and a Test series in July.

In fact, once the PSL is wrapped up, Pakistan should look to schedule another List A tournament to give our domestic & international players more preparation for ODI's. Or they can look to do it in May once NZ tour is done.

Agree but Haris and Agha need more games and runs under the belt...

These 3 ODIs they have to decide if they wanna go with Agha or Kamran (both can chip in with few overs) and give them enough games and ensure they got runs and be ready for the CWC

Tayyab Tahir cant bowl , so not yet there..

Haris Sohail brings the much needed experience into this middle order , his inns did pave the way for a clinical 6 wkts win..

Imagining this line up with KIA boys when the score was 178-3 + Rizwan hogging dot balls to scratch a 50... Pak would have lost 2 more before reaching 200 and by 220 they would be 7 wkts down and easily lost the match by 10 or fewer runs..

Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf have had a lot of cricket over the last couple of months, more so than expected.

This series is going to mean very little if Naseem and/or Haris get long term injuries.

He is developing really well

this is how they break Amir, Shaheen and next in line is Naseem...

They cant keep producing bowlers every year... There is a reason why Waqar was the last pace bowler who could take 200+ wickets in Tests..

Playing all three formats is not easy.. Back to back tests and then ODIs with jus one day rest in between

Sohail

Kamran Ghulam in for Agha should be the one change.

The issue with Agha is that they want him to be the perfect replica for Hafeez. Which he isn't but neither is Kamran Ghulam. Agha does solve the 6th bowling option more so than Kamran Ghulam.

I do expect Haris Sohail to be given a longer rope considering how much Babar respects him and gives him consistency. With that being said, he can breakdown quite easily due to poor fitness.

Tayyab however offers versatility as a opener & middle order. Also I believe he plays spin better than Agha, considering where the next WC is, they might need him.

But then with the lack of 6th bowling option then it hurts the structure. So it's basically Agha at No.6 and Kamran Ghulam/Haris Sohail/Tayyab Tahir competing for 1 spot.

Don't Haris Sohail would bowl much considering his injures.

Unless they're absolutely spanking it in the nets i don't see how either of them come in. The top 6 looks pretty set after this game. Agha has at least earned the rest of the series on balance when you include his test exploits.

It's time to sort out the team chemistry for the WC rather than chop and change too much now.

It’s pretty obvious they will go with same team and if they win we will see 2/3 changes in the last game although having said that I read somewhere if we win 3/0 then we go 1 in rankings so maybe that being said they will make minimal changes in the final game too

I would go with the same team and then if the series is won I would then make multiple changes.

Hoping for a Fin Allen century

He’s an absolute gun bat!

Its not really the idea to chop or change but to test your bench strenght if pakistan have 20 or 22 players in mind who are in conderation for the world cup, bench players need to get some games, this can be crucial in the event during the world cup a key player gets injured, and you have confidence in your bench strenght to fill in the role of the player whom is injured

Make as many changes as possible. World Cup is around the corner and we need to try bench our bench to get the World Cup squad right. We don’t play a lot of ODIs so right is as good a time as any.

Rest Rizwan - it’s terribly inconsiderate to let him keep playing if he spends half his innings on the floor.

Poor physios will want a rate increase.

You need to strike the right balance between and and also giving them enough match time to keep their bowling fitness up.

2 tests out of 5 and an ODI is not a lot of cricket. Let Naseem play. Rest him if the 3rd ODI becomes a dead rubber.

Both these players and shaheen will play all PSL matches without any rest.

They didn’t pick a reserve keeper

Pakistan historically falls short on the first few games in world cups because they always go in with the wrong players/combos.

Remeber they kept Haris Sohail back in 2019?

And, again lost to India in T20 WC because of ill judged selection.

I know its early days but I do hope they only work on their weaknesses in the line up.

No changes for this game please. Let's win the series and we can try out some others in the 3rd ODI

I expect Pakistan to go up 2-0.

They are a solid ODI side now (even without Shaheen).

Pakistan need to try out the bench strength , it is world cup year and we clearly do not have enough backup for both batting and bowling.

Need to give husnain , dahani , kamran g and tayyab tahir in the next two matches. Our fast bowlers are made of glass any way so the more ready the better.
After the PSL we will definitely see shaheen afridi back and amir may well find his way back in odi and t20 squads.

For now i think that shaheen and naseem will make a very good new ball pair , haris rauf isnt as good with the new ball.
Haris sohail is fragile and we dont know for sure whether he will be fit when the wc squad is announced.

I think one of tayyab or kamran should replace salman in the next game. Pakistan need to test out the bench.

With Shaheen and Shadab not available can this team be called B team, as often happens when Pakistan play a team with star or two missing in opposition?

I hope they make batting wicket and not a sluggish one. Expecting Nz to take this one, yes pak won the first ODI but I still don't see the intent to score quick runs.. still playing the defensive cricket. Its the T20 format which forces our players to somewhat show aggression :)

When I read some of the posts, it kinda makes me smile.

I guess people aren't aware of how things work in PAK cricket.

When we win a match, there's almost 99% chance that the "winning combination" RARELY gets changed. It does NOT matter who is on the bench, or which youngsta beauties need to be given chances.

If you feel that winning XI will be changed because some youngsta beauty is sitting on the bench, then you'll be disappointed.

Also, these new players are almost always sat on the bench for several series before they finally get a break.

How do you know they're talking about "what will happen" and not "what should happen"?

It’s not like we won comfortably. Had we played aggressive cricket, we would have finish the game in less than 40 overs.
There no reason to make any changes to wining combinations.

We should play the same team and win the series. Can make changes for last game.

With the odi WC coming to I feel Sarfaraz would do better than Rizwan with strike rotation. And playing spinners. Heck , even azam khan can hit spinners big compared to dot ball Rizwan - when babar and Rizwan were batting together rr kept going up similar to when they play in t20

There is no concept of rotating the players or playing player as per conditions demand because of high insecurities among players (even top ones). They think if they miss out and benching player performs well they will lost the spot. Also they dont want to miss out on match fee and all.
The mindset and thinking of our players are still backwards like 1990s.

I think all players get match fee paid if they are available in squad.

To top it up, they lost to Zimbabwe and were almost killed by Netherlands with a full strength squad. At least they can claim moral victories if they field youngsters against minnows and lose.

I'd slowly wean out Imam even with his good record. Rizwan and Babar are the only consolidators we can afford in the modern game.

Sarfraz should never wicket keep for Pakistan ever again. He will end up dropping a crucial catch or missing a crucial stumping and it will cost us. If he plays he plays as a specialist batsman.

If you really want to go in backward direction and want sarfraz as a specislist batsmen in ODI then better to have shoaib malik. He is good at 6 position and can be handy on indian pitches. Also he has a decent stats batting at no. 6
