Pakistan vs Leics, 3 Day Match, Update Thread

As I said Pakistan will play their first team in the next game. This was a chance for the possibles to maybe force themselves in. Unfortunately Butt didn't really take his chance to score big in both innings. Therefore Malik and Farhat will be, for better or worse, our openers certainly at Canterbury and most likely, barring injury at Lords.

Can we please stick to score updates here, I am relying on this thread to update scores for me.
Okie :) PAK 170/2 , need 33 more runs to win

Onwards to Oval and thence to Lords....Victory ( and hooligans in the crowd) beckon....

Game over, Pakistan win!

Malik got a single, and Younis hit a SIX for victory!

YK finished it off in style with a big straight 6...and 55 not out...so all the top 6 batsman (apart from inzy) have scored runs and seem to be in decent nick..albeit against a very very very very weak opposition

commentator 'thanks for everyone who tuned in except for the idiots to the right hand side'

that sums it up perfectly...bunch of complete idiots...hate to think what they would be like if they were drunk!!!!!!!!!!!

They kept swearing and calling out to the players.....

Sounds all too familiar! Shouldn't they be at school / college / borstal whatever?

I dont understand how clubs allow this kind of loutish behaviour ? There are criminal elements in all parts of the world - its not good enough to say that "Oh we arent used to uncivilized crowds !"

Take their pics, mark them as hooligans, put restraining orders on them and then see everyone "improve" their behaviour!

VVots Borstal?

:)))

Really, what is it

It's a young offenders centre - named after Borstal Prision where the first one was set up under Gladstone in Victorian days.

mongia, pakistan players, probably some leicester players too...the stewards... the leicester members and any other tom dick and harry that caught their vulger eyes...

i am being taken to the lords odi in september by a company..i will be the only pakistany in that group but i am seriously nervous about the whole thing..i'd rather see pakistan lose both test and oneday series then to see our fans bringing down the reputation of the vast majority of pakistanies...i hope and pray that those pitch invasions of 2001 are now history...

And if they win, you can pretty much guarantee pitch invasions and therefore trouble.

pakistanis will do pitch invasions theres no stopping them... i really hope we don't see the repeat of 2001 ...

if paks win they riot, if they lose they riot..there is no winning...

i just hope that they fans support our team in a proper fashion...ofcourse they should be vocifirous in their support and make themselves be heard..and they odd announcement of 'will mr chootia please make his way to the meeting point' will be greeted with great laughter (it is a tradition afterall)...but pitch invasions and constant swearing and those bloody horns...that is just not acceptable...a honk for a 4 or 6 or a wicket is great...but to have them on constantly is just mind blowing...

Well Done MYK + Malik Cheetah! A win always boosts confidence. Inshallah this lays the foundations to a successfull tour.

We can't stop the pitch invasions, they are inevitable.

Awesome stuff lads!

Good to see my tip Farhat doing great..Malik getting in there awesome..YK..Afridi 2 wickets..and Dani!!! to people who said he cant play on eng pitches, dont judge him on his stint at essex, he will come good!

Farhat and Malik for first test easy

not true...because in the natwest series (three onedayers) in 2003 there was no pitch invasion...

the english authorities have to remain focused and be heavy handed..but really they should not have to be...

i still remember when aussies beat england in that 2001 final at lords (repeat of the worldcup final)...one supporter still managed to hit an aussie player with A CAN even though the presentation was in the pavilion...

Trust me, there will be plenty of pitch invasions this time around. We are a much better side now, the supporters will want to back us but it doesn't make much sense for them to run onto the field now, does it? :13:

Good win for Pakistan, now need to do the same against England A.

A very professional performance from pakistan, they have kept up the winning habit which is a help, and most of the bowlers and batters contributed in some way, which will assist them physically and mentally ahead of a difficult tour.

The match with England 'A' is very important as Pakistan are likely to be a lot less comfortable throughout the game - they will be favourites but against test quality players (the A team features several), you are going to have to battle through some sessions of pressure to win. This would only be good for Pakistan as they need to go into the first test knowing how to survive the pressure situations in this country; if all their tour games are cakewalks it could play into England's hands come Lord's, as Pakistan won't know what hit them if they come under pressure.

Pakistan don't want their best player (Inzy) and their most explosive player (Afridi) not to have their feet moving by the time the test series comes around, so they will hope they can get a start or two against England 'A' and get more of a batting workout. Otherwise, on the evidence of today Pakistan look well equipped to compete with England come the first test.

The selection of Hoggard for England 'A' is an interesting one. If he produces a match-winning display in the tour game, then Pakistan could be very scared of him throughout the test series which will play into England's hands and allow wickets to fall psyhcologically as well as from the quality of the bowling. However, if Pakistan see off his new ball bowling, get used to his rhythm and play him reasonably well, then it will play into Pakistan's hands as they will be ready for what I feel is the trump card in England's bowling attack (on current form) come 13th July.

On England's recent tour of India, Munaf Patel destroyed England in one of the warm up matches and when he was brought in for the 2nd test he destroyed them again. Clearly, the psychological hold he had on the batting lineup had something to do with this, as well as his quality line and length. We dealt with him better in the final test but by then it was too late to force a series win.

Depending on how Pakistan deal with Hoggard in the warm up game, it could either be to Pakistan's advantage or England's.
