Why so much criticism of Bilal?
SarfiBabarHaris did you watch second test, if so how did Bilal bowl? From the very little I saw, he looked like he improved his control and was threatening. Scorecard suggests he kept things tight and he picked up the key wicket of a set Ross Taylor. Fair assessment?

He was poor all-round. His bowling didn't have the zip it did v Australia in that Test where he took all the wickets. His fielding was also pathetic. Less said about his batting abilities the better.

Just catching up and apparently there were 1-2 dropped catches of his bowling.

Ross Taylor was going after everything, Bilal was lucky that he was the one who he got out to.

Bilal Asif is a paid actor playing a role of all rounder. No all rounder in the world bats like that. Can’t believe Waqar “The Tactician” Younis opened with him at one point lmao.

One was a simple catch, atleast to me. The other I missed. But what I saw, and how he bowled throughout the series thus far he's been average, and I'm being kind.

But at this stage of his career he is not an all-rounder.

Treat him as an offspinner and judge him on that.

With the deciding third Test against Pakistan to start on 3 December, Craig McMillan, the New Zealand batting coach, has asked for proper plans on the part of his batsmen.

The first of three Tests was a close affair, which went to New Zealand by four runs. But Yasir Shah, the champion Pakistan leg-spinner, picked up 14 wickets in the second Test to script a Pakistan win by an innings and 16 runs.

On to the third Test now, and with Yasir emerging as the big threat for his team, McMillan has stressed on well-worked-out plans to deal with the situation.

“From a batting point of view, you just have to be so precise and clear with your batting plan, especially against Yasir Shah who was outstanding. He's going to test you early on, he's going to test that defence, so your defence has to be so tight, has to be so spot on, because if you make a mistake it's pretty vital over here,” said McMillan.

New Zealand were bowled out for 90 in the first innings in Dubai, slipping from 50 for no loss, with Yasir returning 8/41. The batsmen did much better the second time around, scoring 311, as Yasir picked up 6/142. Tom Latham, Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls hit half-centuries on that occasion.

“We saw, certainly in that second innings, some improvement, from the likes of Taylor and Nicholls and Latham, who batted a long time out there and showed what was possible,” pointed out McMillan.

“It didn't happen in the first innings – it would have been a very different Test match if it had happened – but the guys are learning. We need to learn a bit quicker and get it right, I guess, in that first innings of the third Test.”

Yasir’s returns – 14/184 – were the second-best in Pakistani Test history, only behind Imran Khan’s 14/116 against Sri Lanka in Lahore in 1982.

“Right up there, in terms of quality – the drop and the drift that he was able to generate, especially in that first innings, in that spell, was as good as I've seen. That was one of the things that made Shane Warne so difficult to face, that drift, and we saw that with a couple of dismissals that he bowled, that late drop and drift,” explained McMillan.

“It just takes the bat out of line, so you have to take your hat off to him and say that it was an exceptional bowling spell.”

Hopefully this is bilal's last match for us as well as hafeez and Asad . Rubbish players to say the least.

But at this stage of his career he is not an all-rounder.

He's taken 1 wicket in 2 matches I think. Haris looks much better bowler then him. I can't believe some people are justifying his place in the team.

Bilal bowled well without any reward last Test. Dropped catches, inside edges flying past short leg. He'll come good in the final game.

Without Abbas, I fear for our chances.

Kiwis will have a strong plan vs Shah. They ain't mugs with bat.

Shaheen / Hasan must bring da ruckus to Kiwi top order!

PCB and their planning. A Test starts on Monday. Way to go PCB.

Time for Kane Williamson to show up like a man and try to win his team the match as well as the series.

Time to show why at age of 25, he was touted as NZ's greatest batsmen ever.

Yar I didnt see him much in this much. But from the little i saw his control was better but still i thought wohi pace ka msla tha. Was slow for my liking.

But Shafiq dropped Latham off his bowling so could have got more wickets.

Knowing Inzi he will select same squad for S Africa tour even if Hafeez, Asif, Shafiq fall. We will see a humiliating whitewash in S Africa but Inzi will keep his place because of home series win against Aus and may be NZ.

For me, Bilal has no mystery or surprise what-so-ever, same ball trajectry, spin, and bit of extra bounce which usually batsmen handle quite easily even tail enders...it is as if we are stuck in a loop, ball after ball...the whole game!

I am sure we cannot do worse than bringing in Shadab for him or Zafar Gohar (Hope he does not over sleep again) and drop Hafeez (what are his average 5-10 overs an innings providing is beyond me) to replace with Saud/Saad/Any decent bat who can score some runs unlike Hafeez!

If Pak goes with the same team (Shaheen for Abbass obviously), I see the match tilting in favor of NZ 60-40 already because let's face it, Yasir will not be having such crazy figures again and our batting is due for a failure or two as well. I desparately hope not but things look bleak if we go with the exact combinations!

Has Zafar had an outstanding season yet? Or is this hype based on potential?

Asghar has solid performances to back his selection, yet he is still not deemed good enough for international level.

Incessant moaning about Zafar etc needs to stop. It's not happening so stick to realistic scenarios.

the 400 runs in 160 overs were delightful viewing , right ?

In the end, match finished in how many days; or do you need a clue for that as well?

Test Cricket usually does not make sense to the boom sis baah style of cricket fans

I guess Bilal is what you want and will get then...mark my words, if Yasir does not perform in the 3rd , we will be looking down the barrell very quickly

My dear friend, pakistan wont change a winning team therefore passengers like asif and hafeez, imam will all be retained.

Yes shaheen will play for Abbas, but its clear the team management/captain think that current game plans/style of cricket is benefitting the team which it sadly isnt.

Then you have a politician selector who only seems to favour family members or vacking his beloved seniors.

Agreed, and one thing Pak don't recall is what happened last time when Mccullum and Williamson and Co. ripped our attack apart in UAE after we became too defensive and predictable (in the 2nd test I think)!

If Yasir is played well by at least 2-3 batsmen, they will pile up a decent score and I am afraid our batting is getting ready for a failure...I hope I am totally wrong andwe win by an innings again but team management should think about how to not let their attack become too reliant on Yasir!

With Abbas injured and yasir unlikely to bowl as well as he did in 1st inns of game it means burden of bowling has to be shared by others which is a worrying sign. The over defensive nature of cricket will be exposed at sumpoint, the fact we batted so sloely shows the fear factor and mental weakness in current sidem

Here for the discussion on how Grandhomme is the new Steyn for Hafeez

You don't know anything.
Hafeez was selected on the request of team management. If saifi and Micky wanted hafeez and Bilal to tour SA than they will. Which I know will not happen.

Tom Latham has urged his New Zealand team-mates to take the positives out of the innings-defeat in the second Test against Pakistan, and develop plans to counter Yasir Shah in the series-decider in Abu Dhabi.

New Zealand were blown away by Yasir Shah, who took 10 wickets in a day and 14 in the match to roll over the visitors for 90 and 312, when asked to follow on, in reply to Pakistan's first-innings total of 418/5 declared.

However, Latham's second-innings effort was one of the few positives for New Zealand. He, along with Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls, hit half-centuries, and though they couldn't prevent an innings defeat, they did take New Zealand past 300.

"Even though we didn't win the Test, we got to take positives out of that," Latham said ahead of the final match in Abu Dhabi, beginning on 3 December.

"We did tick over 300 on that surface and that was really important. If we can take that into the last Test, possibly batting last and getting 300-plus, we will give ourselves a good chance."

The visitors are now back to familiar environs where only two weeks ago, they had registered a thrilling four-run victory to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Latham recalled the memories from that Test, which has given New Zealand a chance of for an unprecedented series win in the United Arab Emirates. "We have great memories from a couple of weeks ago when we won a great game," Latham recalled.

"Even though in that Test match we didn't play our best cricket, we managed to get across the line and that's really important.

"We are always striving for the perfect match, but if we can put pieces of the puzzle together in each department, we can hopefully give ourselves a chance of winning that series."

However, to do that, New Zealand will have to counter Shah. "(We have to) come up with a plan on how to play Yasir Shah and Hasan Ali," Latham said.

"They have probably been the two from the bowling point of view, and from our bowling point of view, how to get these guys out in a few days. These are very good conditions and they put a hard price on their wicket.

"Hopefully, we can formulate those plans and stick to them for long periods of time, and hopefully the guys can bat long periods to put numbers on the board."

Bat first if we win the toss. If that happens we should win the Test..

Teenage pace sensation Shaheen Afridi is all set to cap his meteoric rise with a Test debut for Pakistan in the third match against New Zealand in Abu Dhabi starting on Monday.

A shoulder injury to medium pacer Mohammad Abbas in the second Test in Dubai has paved way for Shaheen to make his mark in the last act of a gripping series which stands at 1-1.

"If I get a chance I will do my best," Shaheen told AFP on Saturday.

"I always had belief in my ability and in my hard work although I didn't expect my chance will come in Tests so early."

The 18-year-old left-arm quick made his mark in a domestic match in September last year, claiming eight wickets for just 39 runs in a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy game, the best figures by a Pakistan bowler on first-class debut.

The cricket world took notice of the 1.98 metre tall bowler who could hit the 90 miles per hour mark with the ball. Within 15 months he is already being compared to Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc and legendary Pakistan paceman Wasim Akram.

His rise to the Pakistan team began at home in Landi Kotal, a town in the Khyber District, close to the border with Afghanistan, where his elder brother Riaz who played one Test for Pakistan in 200, gave him his first bowling lessons.

"My brother was my role model who taught me how to bowl and how to approach cricket with a positive frame of mind," said Shaheen.

"I owe my success to him." Riaz also taught his brother a few shots to the extent that he is considered a handy hard-hitting all-rounder.

Since his impressive first-class debut, Shaheen has continued to attract attention, finishing with 12 wickets at the ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand this year and then grabbing a five wicket haul in a Pakistan Super League match.

- Graduation -

==============

Shaheen graduated to Pakistan colours in the home Twenty20 series against the West Indies in March, but real success came against New Zealand in last month's one-day series in which he claimed back-to-back four wicket hauls and finished as man-of-the-series.
Just like Wasim Akram, Shaheen has also played just three first class matches before his first Test.

"Test cricket is the ultimate so matching the great Wasim's feat will motivate me a lot and just like I do in limited over matches, I will try to take wickets for my team to win the series," said Shaheen.

After his early form last month Pakistan's selection committee, headed by Inzamam-ul-Haq, named Shaheen in the Test squad for the New Zealand series with a view to developing him rather than playing him.

But Shaheen pressed his claims further when he took seven wickets -- five of them clean bowled -- in Pakistan A's win over England Lions in their four-day match in Abu Dhabi last month.

That performance and Abbas's injury pushed his chance earlier than expected.

"Our bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, coach Mickey Arthur and others have help me a lot and have worked very hard on me so I am ready to deliver my best."

The three-match series is currently tied at 1-1 with New Zealand winning the first Test by four runs in Abu Dhabi and Pakistan achieving an innings and 16 runs win in the second in Dubai.

Why they have included pathetic fahim Ashraf in 12 man squad? Please give respect to the test cap, don't include bits and pieces players in Tests.

If Pakistan are thinking about 3rd pacer instead of Bilal Asif, Mir Hamza should have been included.

Big match starting tomorrow.

Think the West Indies series in 2016 was the last time we won back-to-back Tests in UAE.

Hope youngsters can handle pressure of a series decider. Seniors need to step up, no excuses please.

Did not do too bad in Ireland and England test series.

If he plays tomorrow, then Hafeez will have to bowl more. Maybe that will get his batting to click if he takes a few wickets?
