Now we have a perfect captains in ODI,Tests and T20s.
Shan, Rizwan and Salman, they dont deserve to be in the side alone on performances.
Shan aka aggressive opener, Rizwan aka specialist number 4, and Salman Agha the intent king

Sajid and Noman do 80% or more of the bowling on these spin tracks. We have gone with three spinners before but barely used the third option.

What's your take on pitches is it going to rank turners or gradully spinning in day 3?

Ideally the latter option to see a good contest, giving pak home advantage but not making a mockery out of it.

I think PCB will go for rank turners again.

Ya bro i would love to see that rank turner i know it's going to be bat first win the match type of pitch but i think pakistan has to take that risk.
 
This may be a unpopular opinion but I wouldn’t have selected Abdullah Shafique or Babar Azam.

They clearly still carry weaknesses with the batting approach.

I agree that Sahibzada Farhan could have been tried or even retaining Saim Ayub.

Last time Pakistan played South Africa in Pakistan, Shaheen & Hasan Ali bowled well especially with the new ball & spinners used the old ball well. Hopefully the pitches bring more balance between pacers & spinners for Pakistan.

I like would have ideally gone with

1. Saim Ayub
2. Shan Masood (C)
3. Kamran Ghulam
4. Saud Shakeel
5. Mohammad Rizwan (WK)
6. Agha Ali Salman
7. Aamer Jamal
8. Nauman Ali
9. Sajid Khan
10. Shaheen Shah Afridi
11. Khurram Shehzad/Hasan Ali

The XI gives you good balance of spin & pace but does expose you batting somewhat & will need at least two of the top order to do the heavy lifting with the bat.

But Pakistan have really struggled in the past couple of years to take 20 wickets in test cricket, it is time to correct it.

Ideal is to stop watering the pitch for 30 hours before start , that way you get a real dry pitch by 6th or 7th session - raking up the surface with wire brushes before game commences is a bit too jihadi imo .
 
I want to see kamran ghulam as he looks decent batter and runs accumulators, but dont think he will be selected in playing XI
 
3 spinners is over kill. 2 spinners and 2 fast bowlers with reverse swing skills is the way to go. Ideally should have been able to put a medium pace all rounder as well
 
Should be anybody's game if the ball spins from over no 1.

Even part timers become lethal bowlers on such pitches.

That's the level of interest that the general public have in test cricket. Then there are people who expect Pak team to become a world beater or a great test team.

Even when it was free last season, there were barely any crowds. Champions Cup had better crowds than Test cricket

Constantly under the radar of fans and media if they can’t buy a run on the spin wickets.

They probably want one Test where they can inflate their stats and somehow pull off a draw/win

And then go hard with spin in the second Test

Tests seem to be picking up now. I feel pak is a better test side than t20 or odi

You are right.

I’m guessing they want one Test where the batters can rack up their runs and buy some time for themselves.

The other issue is that maybe PCB is not interested in messing around too much with the relayed square in Lahore which is actually quite a good, international standard track. It is probably the best track in the sub continent at the moment which can produce proper quality of cricket.
 
I think Babar Azam is set to bat at his usual No. 4 position in the first Test against South Africa, with Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique opening the innings and Shan Masood coming in at No. 3.

As an Indian fan i admit i enjoy watching Sajid Don, dude is a character and you need such characters in tests....
Guys like him have the ability to lift the entire side....
On the other end of scale is Noman bhai...one guy you would never think to be a test cricketer, if you saw him in plain clothes...but dude is effective and does what is required of him, with minimal fuss
series would be intresting...

Atleast you can have 2 fast bowlers which is required in Tests at any type of pitch and considering you dont have any fast bowling allrounder. But playing with 3 specialist spinners is an overkill of spin

Pakistan vs South Africa Test Series

The captains of Pakistan and South Africa unveiled the Test series trophy.

Shan Masood and Aiden Markram revealed the trophy at the National Cricket Academy.

South Africa’s captain Aiden Markram also visited the museum at the NCA.

Shan Masood briefed Markram about the trophies displayed in the museum.

The first Test between Pakistan and South Africa begins tomorrow.

hopefully they stop watering it beyond 1800 hours of 12th ... that would mean turn from day 2 & sharp turn from day 3 .
 
This pitch looks like a paata, a road. South Africa to get 575, Pakistan to score 500 & match will be a draw.
 
How lovely it is that most of the players in the Pak squad haven't played any FC cricket since nearly a year and going into the new Test Championship.

II'm now convinced SA will mop the floor with Pakistan. The England series was a one off due to England getting caught off guard.

wont happen again as every side is now prepared for a spin onsalught and they'll ensure that they beat Pakistan at their own game.

If WI could do it, SA which is a wtc champion can do so easily.
 
Do they even have nets on turning tracks, how is this possible without heaters then whats the point of practising on flat tracks when youll get rank turners during match.

Its natural for pakistan to play spin well over sena teams pakistan will be well prepared they have faced likes of nomam sajid in nets.

That's how I read his words. Captains rarely speak of conditions when they are in SENA countries.
 
If we have a 6th day wicket, Toss will be absolutely crucial. If we win the toss and get 250-300, we will in all likelihood. If the Saffers win the toss,we are in big trouble

Markram is planting the seed of doubt in his fans, basically telling them not to expect too much .. because of the 'different' conditions. He has the excuses ready in case he loses the series.
 
Mostly SA panicks in these tricky conditions and collapses. If they can overcome that they can challenge pakistan. It is a shoot out between two spin units. SA attack is inexperienced. Let us see how the series pans out

you need skill. They don't have anyone like Amla who is superior against spin compared to any of the current SA players. It is always good to have an Indian origin player. Rachin Ravindra did it for NZ in India.
