Pakistan will become polio free country by the end of this year.

This was stated by UNICEF Country Representative in Pakistan Angela Kearney while speaking during a programme of News and Current Affairs Channel of Radio Pakistan in connection with the Universal Children day being observed today.

Angela Kearny said that in 2014 there were 309 polio cases in Pakistan and the number has significantly reduced to 17 this year. She said that in 2014, five hundred thousand children could not be accessed for administering polio drops and this number has also been significantly dropped this year.

UNICEF Country Head said that by the coordinated and collaborative efforts of the international organization and the government of Pakistan, polio will be eradicated from the country this year.

High Commissioner of Canada to Pakistan Perry John Calderwood said that efforts should be made for the allocation of right resources for the development of the children.

What about Afghanistan as people move freely between Pakistan and Afghanistan and virus can return to Pakistan.

Ideal would be to give any kid under 6 entering Pak for the first time to be administered these polio drops at the Pak-Afg border.

The common person can not believe this nonsense. They telling us that there will not be one person in Pakistan with the polio virus at the beginning of next year?? I don't believe them at all.

No what they mean to say there will be no new cases of polio (those that have it don't suddenly disappear).

The number of people who got the virus in 2016 was 17. They are hoping to bring this number down to zero in 2017.

Nice. Next thing we need to deal with is fertility rate. We need to control our population like China did or else we will face a huge problem. Poverty and illiteracy will get worse if government doesn't take action to control population.
