Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Saturday that the balance of global power is shifting towards Asia, citing China, India, Pakistan, and Indonesia as the world's future big powers.

"In the next long decades, maybe centuries, Asia will be the dominant centre of the world," Orban said, highlighting the emerging influence of these nations on the global stage.

Orban's remarks came during a speech in Budapest where he also criticised the West, describing it as 'irrational' and suggesting that its waning power would benefit Russia.

Orban, a nationalist in power since 2010, made the comments during a speech in which he forecast a shift in global power away from the "irrational" West towards Asia and Russia.

"And we Westerners pushed the Russians into this bloc as well," he said in the televised speech before ethnic Hungarians at a festival in the town of Baile Tusnad in neighbouring Romania.

Orban, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency, has sharply differed from the rest of the bloc by seeking warmer ties with Beijing and Moscow, and he angered some EU leaders when he went on surprise visits to Kyiv, Moscow and Beijing this month for talks on the war in Ukraine.

He said that in contrast to the "weakness" of the West, Russia's position in world affairs was rational and predictable, saying the country had shown economic flexibility in adapting to Western sanctions since it invaded Crimea in 2014.

Orban, whose own government has passed a number of anti-LGBT measures, said Russia had gained clout in many parts of the world by cracking down on LGBTQ+ rights.

"The strongest international appeal of Russian soft power is its opposition to LGBTQ," he said.
He added that Ukraine would never become a member of the EU or NATO because "we Europeans do not have enough money for that".

"The EU needs to give up its identity as a political project and become an economic and defence project," Orban added.

The EU opened membership talks with Ukraine late last month, although a long and tough road lies ahead of the country before it can join the bloc.

A declaration at the end of the NATO summit this month said the alliance will support Ukraine on "its irreversible path" towards members.

This whole Victor Orbon speech is worth listening. Mentioned India, Indonesia too as upcoming powers.

In the distant future? It's likely given the country's huge population

In the immediate future? Hell to the no.

Stupid claim and gives no tangible facts. Pakistan is going backward on all metrics handsomely.

Global power house???

I cannot see that coming in like 5-6 decades. While the whole world is moving in the forward direction, Pakistan is moving in the opposite direction.

In the distant future, I am not even sure if Pakistan exists. Civil war will most likely result in dominions of occupied Kashmir and occupied Baluchistan getting independence.

Poll added Guys.
Victor Orban said it so it's definitely happening, there was no need for a poll! The whole world knows this is true.

Under the unmatched, divine leadership of our establishment, we're on the thrilling brink of becoming a superpower! Thanks to his unparalleled vision and acute foresight, we've not only topped every living standard—like education, poverty eradication, health, and even basic amenities—but we’ve nearly achieved world domination! Now, if we could just figure out how to keep the lights on and the water running without a miracle, we’ll be all set for that final leap into 'Super Powerdom'—shout out to the establishment for inspiring us with such realistic goals! Long live establishmentr, the superhero we didn't know we needed!

China is probably the next superpower. Not Russia. Not India.

I don't think India will be at same level as China. China is a different beast.

Russia may decline once Putin dies. Let's see.

just to give ppl context, orban is a right win conservative, what hes really saying is white europeans are gonna be over run by ethnic people who have babies, and the countries which hold "traditional" values, aka their ally russia, are being pushed away because they dont toe the line to the woke agenda.

Orban is upset that white-saturated Russia is being pushed into the realm of non-white countries.

Pak will never be a super power atleast for 200 years. The only super powers right now are USA and China. Russia is on the way out and is a shrinking world power. And Ind as well has a long lomg way to go to even think of being one.. It's USA vs China for the foreseeable future.

Pretty apt description.

Pakistan’s old chaotic system will die soon. A new system where Establishment’s power will be curtailed might give us a fair shot in long term.

Khan has crippled the old system, a new fresh system will replace it in near future.

Noon league and PPP will be done and dusted, no future and perhaps limited to Karachi and Lahore.

if pak had $10,000 of gdp per capita every time a generation thought this about some political saviour, pak would pbly be a developed country by now.

Pakistan, Russia to strengthen ties through economic, security cooperation: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Thursday Pakistan's intention to enhance its trade, economic, energy, connectivity, and security relations with Russia during a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in Islamabad

The discussions underscored the two countries' mutual interest in expanding cooperation in key sectors, including agriculture, food security, business, education, and science and technology.

PM Shehbaz expressed his anticipation for a forthcoming meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit next month, stating that strengthening ties with Russia is a priority for Pakistan’s foreign policy.

During the meeting, Overchuk reaffirmed Russia's commitment to deepening relations, describing the partnership as constructive and mutually beneficial. He announced Russia’s support for Pakistan's inclusion in the BRICS group, which consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

The meeting also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering cooperation across various sectors, signifying both nations’ commitment to advancing their economic and strategic relationship.

In a separate meeting, President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed Overchuk and his delegation at Aiwan-e-Sadr, highlighting the need to explore barter trade options and improve connectivity, particularly through railways and direct flights, to facilitate business interactions and enhance people-to-people connections.

Overchuk indicated that Russia is eager to collaborate with Pakistan on food security and educational initiatives, and noted that a 75-member Pakistani business delegation is scheduled to visit Russia in October to explore further avenues for economic cooperation.

The discussions are part of a broader effort to revitalise Pakistan-Russia relations, which have seen increased engagement following meetings between PM Shehbaz and President Vladimir Putin earlier this year.

Pakistan, Russia ink eight agreements to boost trade and economic ties

Pakistan and Russia on Wednesday signed eight agreements aimed at strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The agreements were finalised during a ceremony held in Moscow, where the 9th Intergovernmental Commission meeting took place.

Federal Minister for Energy Owais Ahmed Leghari led the Pakistani delegation at the talks, which underscored the growing cooperation between the two nations.

Speaking at the event, Leghari remarked, "Pakistan-Russia cooperation is progressing steadily, and these agreements will further deepen our collaboration in various sectors."

The agreements encompass a range of initiatives, including industrial cooperation and the production of insulin. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between New Tech, a Pakistani entity, and a Russian university to promote academic and technological exchange.

No crude oil deal with Russia

Despite these developments, Federal Minister for Petroleum Dr Musadik Masood Malik reiterated that no agreement had been reached with Russia regarding the purchase of crude oil.

Addressing the media in Islamabad, Malik dismissed reports of a deal, stating, "The news about crude oil agreements with Russia is baseless. No conclusion has been reached on this matter."

Malik also shared updates on Pakistan's LNG situation, noting a surplus of liquefied natural gas due to decreased demand from private-sector power plants. "We have postponed five LNG cargoes and are considering delaying five more, given the reduced costs and surplus supply in the international market," he added.

Regarding the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, Malik expressed Pakistan’s willingness to proceed if international sanctions on Iran were relaxed. However, he refrained from discussing the matter in detail.

A report published by Goldman Sachs has predicted that Pakistan would be the sixth largest economy in the world by 2075 with the “appropriate policies and institutions”.

In the document titled “The Path to 2075”, its authors, economists Kevin Daly and Tadas Gedminas, have forecasted that the five largest economies by 2075 would be China, India, the US, Indonesia and Nigeria.

Pakistan’s future is predicted on the back of its population growth, which along with Egypt and Nigeria, could place it among the largest economies in the world in the next 50 years.

By then, Pakistan’s Real GDP is forecast to have grown to $12.7 trillion and its GDP per capita to $27,100.

The two economists see China’s gross domestic product surpassing that of the US in about 2035.

They predicted that India’s GDP will narrowly surpass that of the US in about 2075.

Two decades after they outlined the long-term growth projections for the BRIC (an acronym referring to the developing countries of Brazil, Russia, India, and China) economies, Goldman Sachs have expanded them to cover 70 emerging and developed economies.

Now, the economists have expanded their projections to 104 countries going as far as 2075.

Daly and Gedminas in their report saw “protectionism and climate change” as risks that were particularly important both for growth and the convergence of incomes.

The economists particularly highlighted “environmental catastrophe” and “populist nationalism” as risks to their projections.

The report pointed out that global growth had slowed from an average of 3.6% per year in the past 10 years to 3.2%, and the slowdown has been relatively broad-based.

The economists projected global growth would average 2.8% between 2024 and 2029 and from that point be on a gradually declining path.

They predicted that emerging markets would continue to converge with industrial nations including China, the US, India, Indonesia and Germany topping the league table of largest economies when measured in dollars.

Nigeria, Pakistan and Egypt could also be among them.

They forecast that the US was unlikely to repeat its relative strong performance of the last decade, and the dollar’s exceptional robustness would also unwind over the next 10 years.

The economists wrote that their projections implied that the world had passed the high-water mark of global potential growth.

They added that most of this projected slowdown was due to demographics and global population growth had halved over the past 50 years.

Anything to do with India/Pakistan should be reported on a per capita basis, so the tossers on both sides of the border know exactly where they stand.

And 2075 lol.

India can be world's second-largest economy by 2031: RBI DG Patra

It is conceivable that India can become the world’s second-largest economy by 2031 and the largest economy by 2060, given the country’s inherent strengths, said Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor Michael Debabrata Patra.

Speaking at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie on Tuesday, he said that price stability was the best contribution monetary policy could make to strengthen the foundations for long-term growth.

“Given the innate strengths… it is possible to imagine India striking out into the next decade to become the second largest economy in the world, not by 2048, but by 2031, and the largest economy of the world by 2060,” he said

The speech was uploaded on the RBI website on Friday.

“The formation of inflation in India needs to be navigated towards convergence with global inflation so that both the internal and external value of the rupee is preserved. This will prepare the ground for the internationalisation of the rupee and the emergence of India as the economic powerhouse of the world of tomorrow,” he said.

Patra said the RBI projects average inflation to be 4.5 per cent in 2024-25 and 4.1 per cent in 2025-26.
