I heard from a friend today that pak women coach also made a report similar to what waqar younis did last year and singled out the senior players.

I didnt know things were that bad in the women's department as well. Based on what i heard, what he writes about sana mir captaincy style makes afridi in 2016 wc look like a saint. Is that true?

Sabih Azhar himself is a rubbish coach. I wonder why team is performing this bad. A sore loose

Sabih Azhar mentions Sana Mir as "self-centered, egotistical and being wrapped up in oneself."

"Similarly, the captain selfishly used to bowl herself at such a time during the match when she knew that the batters won't go after the bowling and her bowling figures won't be destroyed. She had a jealousy factor in her mind that what will happen if the other bowler takes a wicket or two and gets an extended spell of bowling."

Those are very strong words especially directed towards a player who has been the cornerstone of Pakistan's women cricket. Personally I think Sabih Azhar is just covering himself and throwing the captain under the bus. Sabih Azhar was with the team for only 2.5 months as coach and he puts blame on the manager, Ayesha Ashar for not behaving well with the junior players. Ayesha has been manager of the women's team for 9 years. I doubt Ayesha is the problem here. Maybe it's Sabih Azhar who needs to be booted out.

Absolutely disgraceful that a report has been leaked by PCB

How embarrassing that something that you told someone in confidence is now adorning headlines worldwide.

Why would anyone want to work at PCB?

Sabih Azhar is Pindi coach for years now. He is the one who has given chances to many youngsters. Pindi Youngsters like Umar Amin, Umar Waheed, recently Shadab has praised Sabih highly. Have won Faisal bank t20 tournament for underdogs Pindi side mainly because of youngsters. There must be some substance if Sabih is criticizing the seniors.

Just because he's good with Rawalpindi doesn't mean he's suited to coaching the women's side. Men and women respond differently to coaching methods and the skill sets required to coach a successful men's team are are not the same as they are for the women's team. What he sees as egotistical and self-centered could mean something else entirely to the team. One would have to look at the actual matches to make that determination.

Every youngster who has made it to the team has praised Sana Mir to no end and named her as her role model. Check out the recent interview of 3 of our women's cricketers on Cricinfo who have praised Sana Mir. I just find it fishy that a person who has been coach for only 10 weeks has discredited the entire efforts of Sana Mir and Ayesha Ashar who have been there for over 9 years.

Also the Pakistani women's team is not Australia where people are calling for the heads for having lost every match in the WC. Our team wasn't good anyways. Did anybody really think that we could've defeated the likes of India/SA/Australia/England/NZ? The only possible victories were Sri Lanka and WI. We did beat WI in the warmup but by the time we played WI and Sri Lanka, the team's morale was already gone. The girls did pretty well in their first match against SA. Almost won that.

We should be patient and try to give more match opportunities to these girls. How many times have they played against Australia/England/India in a bilateral series? They hardly get chances, meagerly paid and no domestic setup. Cannot expect wonders.

Yes we should be patient and thats why I replied to your post and also that may be Sabih has substance in what he said. Sabih shouldnt be booted out after 2.5 months as you said above. And yes I know there are many problems in women cricket and there is no magic wand to solve them in short time.

Would be good to see some evidence of this report rather than blasting someone based entirely on hearsay. And anyway, it's true, the women were abysmal.

Disheartening to see a coach maligning the senior players: Sana Mir

Pakistan women’s cricket team had a poor run in the Women’s World Cup 2017 as they ended the campaign without a win under their belt. Captain Sana Mir and manager Ayesha Ashar were criticised by coach Sabih Azhar in one of his reports. In reply to this, Mir in a post on her official Facebook page, has hit out on the revelations made by the coach.

“There is no shame in losing; there is only shame in not giving your 100%. Sports should have taught us this lesson much earlier if we had played it in its true essence and the right spirit. Champions are made through the process of preparing and playing and the struggles they endure in their journey towards their goals. You do not become a champion only by achieving results. A Champion is an individual who can get back up from one failure to face the next challenge; who is ready to analyse and improve him/herself and is ready to work harder next time.

Of course everyone who has watched women’s cricket and given attention to it in the last 3-4 years have felt disappointment with our run in the World Cup 2017. We as players are gutted too. We have also worked really hard to put up the fights we did. We feel so disappointment for not crossing the line to the winning side at least in four matches of this tournament.

I would have preferred not to have had this conversation through the media but since a confidential report by the coach and comments by GM Women Wing and Chairman PCB have been making headlines, I feel obliged to give a short response to clarify some issues from my point of view.

My coordination with the coach suffered when I insisted on playing Diana Baig, who was in absolutely great form. That was our major disagreement. Diana is talented and was in great form in the WWC 2017.

My fight was to play a youngster in the team who is ready for international cricket. I don’t regret it.

Moreover, we suffered defeats in this World Cup as spinners with the new ball penetrated our top order consistently in each game, specially left arm spinners. We are also still short of players who can perform under pressure.

We should be talking about cricketing problems we need to address, in a constructive and professional manner, rather than personalising issues.

I do want to add that journalists are free to ask junior players about our attitude towards them. No one can have a 100% record but it’s disheartening to see a coach maligning the senior players who have been giving confidence and guidance to youngsters for so long.

A player’s primary job is to perform. They can facilitate the growth of other players but it’s the job of the system to work on new players.
I am not a perfect captain nor I have claimed it anywhere or we are the perfect team. But I would have appreciated it if the coach would have stood by the team like other coaches did.

I want to make it clear I don’t intend to continue in the future with the current setup of the Women’s Wing in any capacity. Having said that I would still be sharing a detailed report with all of you to improve women’s cricket once I get back by the end of August In sha Allah.

I would also like to thank the fans who have been supportive and patient in this tough time.

I would also like to thank my family and friends who have been my strength throughout my journey,” she wrote.

Blame game started as expected.

I'd heard that some of these women's players egos were as if they were superstars and that seems to be the case according to Sabih Azhar.

And who do you believe ?? The players or the coach ??

Hardly a surprise to hear about jealousy between players on a women's team.
