Pakistan Cricket team are still unsure as to who will lead the team in the 2019 World Cup after the recent controversy involving their skipper Sarfraz Ahmed who was suspended for four games following his racist remarks against South Africa all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo. In his absence, Shoaib Malik is currently leading the team who are playing the decider game in Cape Town after the ODI series was levelled at 2-2 following Pakistan's win in the fourth ODI.

Meanwhile, as per Pakistan's policy of appointing captain on a series to series basis, the management has not spoken about whether Sarfraz will lead them in the mega event. "We never revealed the length of Sarfraz Ahmed's tenure," said a PCB Spokesperson. "We never said whether he was going to stay [as a captain] for one or two years. The PCB appoints captain on a series to series basis, and, as such, appointment for the series post PSL will be made in due course" he further added.

PCB chairman Ehsan Mani had announced post his appointment that Sarfraz will lead the team, in the World Cup 2019 but now with unforeseen circumstances, the management is yet to decide over their skipper for their next series Australia in March/April which will be a five-match ODI series.

Pakistan started well under Sarfraz by winning the Champions trophy in 2017. However with defeat against New Zealand at home and now the clean sweep in Tests against the Proteas, questions have been regarding his continuation. Following the Test series defeat against South Africa, their coach Micky Arthur had also blasted the work ethics of the seniors along with skipper Sarfraz as well.

With Pakistan missing their regular skipper it will be interesting to see the board's next move keeping in mind that they don't have much time to sort their issues and find the ideal combination for the World Cup.

Who is this rat "spokesperson"?

Sarfaraz is staying captain. It would be idiotic to change captains now. This is not some sort of teenage fantasy club where you change captains according to your wishes.

So we've written off Rizwan after one game. Good to see level headed posters leading the way as always.

Though not a fond of Sarfaraz's captaincy but yes I agree it would not be a good move especially when there arent many choices available now.

Spokesperson must be some media guy of PCB.

Also not sure why for the T20s vs SA we arent trying any young captain.

Surely giving ODI captaincy to Malik for rest of the series was fine but for T20s we need to give captaincy to a young guy to develop future leader.

It’s really not the time to be trying players 3-4 months before the WC, this should’ve been done 2-3 years ago.

Post PSL we will have 10 games. 10 games is a long enough time to improve and make couple of inclusions or exclusions without disturbing the core. In some of the years 10-15 is the total number of ODIs a team plays so its not less at all.

I have a feeling couple of more guys after PSL will be pushing for the spot in the squad against Aus ODIs.

Pakistan didn’t try Shan Masood in any of the 5 ODI’s vs SA, a player who was picked for his List A form was only played in the Test Matches and looked our best batsman, what chances will those who perform in the PSL have making it into the xi of the national team?

The management and selectors have already made their 16 for the WC regardless of what happens in PSL.

Regardless of how Safraz has performed, a bit to late to chop captain and reinstate a new one at this late stage of the game. Should have thought about it way before. Better to Stay with Safraz, it will only create bad taste in the dressing room - which could lead to poor performance throughout the team.

Seriously this board is just a joke. Just put it out there that he will be captain till world cup and move on. If you can’t do that the drop him and Malik for the same reasons.

Now I am certain that Sarfraz will lead PAK in World Cup. I actually take the opposite meaning of statements from PCB and it works brilliantly in most cases.

Seems to be a bit of wish as opposed to fact in this article - but you never know!

Sarfrqz should have been ditched ages ago, never mind over the racism row.

As per usual pakistan are going into a world cup carrying excess baggage and dont even have a settled team combo.

PCB are clueless. If he is going to be captain, just tell us now so we can plan for the WC. If he isn't just name who the captain will be.

Should not be Sarfaraz. In my opinion Shoaib would be the natural choice.

You simply don’t change your captain few months before the WC. If they want a new leader they should look for him after the WC and give him 4 years to groom a new team.

This. PCB as usual never develop replacements for players who have passed their expired dates.

Why are you reacting so much? Sarfraz is a really bad captain who bullies his players and keeps the morale low. If our captain changes I'm OK with it, as Sarfraz has lost our players.

but why didnt these high-morale-under-different-captain not win the fifth odi?

This all reminds me of Misbah V Afridi just before WC 2015

The then chairman of PCB had to make a special statement to regain control after the NZ series (Afridi captained). Will history repeat itself?

Sarfraz would have done that? Pakidtan have been horrible in ODIs for last 12 months under him. Beating zimbabwe is no feat. Also It's not about winning or losing only but his pathetic attitude makes people hate him.

Boss, nothing succeeds like success. His screaming and shouting was considered a key ingredient of our win by the pundits, now it is considered a liability because we are losing. I dont shrill for him (much as i think he doesnt deserve to be in the squad)...but this analysis is just bias confirmation.

Sarfaraz should continue..... Imad wasim should be made his deputy.... Shoaib Malik should b dropped.... He has never been successful outside Asia... Imad was in should play as batter who can at best sneak 5-6 economical overs.. Hari's sohail should b included in squad, if he is unfit then U. Akmal should make it... Pakistan has brittle middle order
