What's new

Pakistani cricketers' reaction is damaging the Pakistan cricket brand more than NZC's cancellation

buddy, nzc did what they did as per their govt as per so called security threat and its consequences, we get it...

pcb/players/fans did/said what they did/said due to the sheer shock and consequences of abandoning tour, and THEY get it...

so its perfectly okay... i have no qualms with it, pcb is treated as 3rd class in cricket fraternity as it is, and if our ppl dont make any hoopla and ott comments, we can kiss intnl cricket good bye... support pcb...

Almost all sportsmen have their SM accounts handled by their PR team irrespective of their English speaking skills.......what's your problem if these guys do it too

Because they cant utter a single word in press conference, and on social media they use such words that its obvious ita not them.

Atleast other sprotsmen engage and jse their own account

NZC had every right to recall their players, as their players safety is paramount to everything.

Pakistan players/ex-players/fans/media etc have every right to abuse anyone associated with the NZ for the damage they have caused to Pakistan cricket’s reputation.

Let’s agree on that and move on from this ugly episode.

Well can you tell me exactly why are you so much obsessed with the English of our players ? Why is it bothering you so much if they use google translate or any other medium to write on twitter ? Messi and Ronaldo are the top football players in the world and i have never seen them speaking good English but no one from their country ever makes fun of their English or even any other less famous footballer ever gets mocked for their English. But in our country it seems like an insult if a sportsmen cannot speak good English. I think this is all Gora complex and obsession with the Goras this is what I understood from your posts.

Actually by leaving NZ thwarted the attack (if any), thus saving any Pakistani's from harm incurred in the attack at all. Staying in the face of it would have placed everyone at risk of the attack going forward. But logic is foreign to some posters.

They were in the country for a good two days after the threat. Being protected by the same people that they did not disclose information to. Kind of ironic, you want Pakistani soldiers to protect you from a threat while you are here. But you wont tell them what the threat is so that they can protect themselves as they protect you.

Surely Pakistan cricket board and players and pundits are going to make a song and dance on social media in a hope that it will reduce the chances of England cancelling?

New Zealand going home is one thing but England cancelling will be a much bigger problem and I hope the tour does go ahead in Pakistan.

Decisions will have been difficult to make England as it was the weekend and other than the ECB, there are other stake holders such as civil servants, politicians, security services, private consultants / private security. Having them all around a table on a weekend when not life threatening is unlikely

well, if you post on this forum more often, you would know me and my views and would not be making assumption.

I dont care if someone speaks english or urdu. Also FYi this is not a gora complex, english is a universal language. You are making the same post on this forum in English, does that mean you have a gora complex?

I dont care what language players speak, but when you know a player who cant even utter a sentence in English, goes to Facebook or Twitter and starts giving his views in English it shows how fake it is.

Its obvious they themselves dont write them and have either marketing companies or their managers or their children writing for them. And its a joke. It shows how fake the other person is.

I laugh when I see those tweets by Umar Akmal or even Shadab Khan in English. Fake tweets

You laugh because you hate the individual players, not what language they are posting in.

There’s something called translation and a PR team. It’s to reach a wider audience and it isn’t to show they can speak it.

You know better than most how these guys are not really highly educated in the first place. So, if they post in English, it’s obvious they have someone else doing it. It’s on social media and English is the second most spoken language (and really THE international language since Mandarin is only in China).

Again, another poster who comes here assuming he knows me.

Im a fan of shadab khan, but i will still bash him for his fake online personality.

You ahoulsnt be using pr teams in the first plsce to promote your accounts on social media. Just a dumb way to gather likes and views of your account.

Be it a pakistan or any other gora player

Had this happened to India, they would have reacted the same. Every time there is an issue with Pakistan or China, they come out with emotional statements and demands for e.g. demanding an embargo on Chinese Products.

Yes , South Asians are emotional but now will there be a reaction against English and all those snarky comments from the players? No why ? Probably coz county cricket?

I don't think it's the same. Eng aren't here and they haven't cited an alleged bomb threat a few hours before the toss, refused to share any information and left, thereby bringing a decade worth of efforts to standstill.

There is also the fact that everybody already expected England not to come after NZ. The NZ scenario was so sudden, the emotions were at an all time high and as you say we aren't very good in such situations.

Still Hafeez and many others could have worded their feelings better.

It’s not a dumb way, it’s being smart.

You would be criticizing the players for not posting or speaking in English if they did not do so because it showcases a lack of refinement.

And I’m no spring chicken. I’ve been here for a few years and am well acquainted with your views. So let’s dispel with the personal know-how.

Some Cricketers and fans are acting like emotional teenagers.

This is not how the Western world works. Every relationship is transactional for them. They will never say and have never said no to India because India has the financial muscle.
Basically what Pakistan is trying to show shadow much much larger than actual muscle!! This won't work. It would further alienate players and fans community in other countries.

My friend, everybody here understands that this is a business. It’s only a sport for ordinary people.

That’s not the problem because according to the agreements between the boards, there were clear security protocols to be followed and tours scheduled.

In business, profit comes first (“financial motive must prevail”).

But second, comes your reputation and your word. That is what guarantees relationships with others that are mutually beneficial.

If you leave your partner high and dry, break your agreement and do so in an abrasive and arrogant manner, it is not business that has prevailed.

Within a week, New Zealand, as well as England, have pulled out of their tours to Pakistan citing security concerns. The Black Caps, who decided to travel to Pakistan for the first time in 18 years for a limited-overs series, pulled out of the tour just minutes before the toss ahead of the 1st ODI. Later, even the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) pulled out of the tour.

Reacting to the setback, former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar slammed the two countries for pulling out of the scheduled tours and asked Pakistan skipper Babar Azam to take revenge from the countries during the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.

"So England also refuses. Its ok guys, see you all at the T20 World Cup. Specially blackcapS. Ab painja laganay ka time aa gaya hai. Chorna nahi hai ab babarazam," Akhtar tweeted.

Akhtar went on to highlight how England took Pakistan's help by boarding PIA when they wanted help in leaving Afghanistan.

"When they need evacuation to travel from Afghanistan to Pakistan, then they remember Pakistan. PIA was not a safe airline for them but they immediately boarded it when they had to leave Afghanistan. England should have at least come to Pakistan to see the arrangement rather than going by what was suggested to them by a company that got a dream that Pakistan is not a safe country. This is tarnishing the image of Pakistan. This is not bearable to any Pakistani," Akhtar said in a video on his Youtube Channel.

Akhtar added that had he been the PCB Chairman, he would have told England and New Zealand that even Pakistan was not interested in playing international cricket with them.

"If I was PCB Chairman, I would have told both England and New Zealand that we don't want to play international cricket with them. Time has come now where Pakistan cricket stops looking at the world and starts to raise money, begin asset building. The world will not help you. You are portraying that the army is not good enough?" the Rawalpindi Express added.

Akhtar concluded by saying that Pakistan should take revenge on New Zealand and the other teams by defeating them and winning the upcoming T20 World Cup.

"Now at the T20 World Cup, we have a match against India, and there's a bigger match against New Zealand. We have to take out our anger on the match. The PCB has to first get its selection right, include 3-4 players who should be a part of the team to strengthen the squad. We will take revenge from these guys by not saying anything but by winning the World Cup," he said.

PCB..Ramiz, Shoaib and am sure a majority of Pakistani fans want Pakistan to beat India, England and New Zealand and win the T20World Cup. The pressure on the team now will be insane.

They are hurt and some of the comments are justified. The PCB chairman should learn some diplomacy and let others make heated comments.

“We have always tried to accommodate the interests of the game”

It appears that Babar is either ignorant of how much politics PCB played in the 80s and 90s when it had some leverage and clout, or perhaps his words were lost in translation when his social media manager typed all of the above.

After all, Babar cannot read or comprehend a single word that is written there.

The self-righteous attitude of PCB, Pakistani players, media, fans etc. makes me laugh.

As much as I like Babar I wish we have someone like Rizwan when its time to say these things in press conference and in front of media rather than on twitter handle. Babar in front of media would be very diplomatic whilst Rizwan would say things as they are which is the need of the hour.

The Pakistani players reaction hasn't been harsh at all...what are the posters here seeing exactly?

What do people expect? The pakistani players to be appreciative of this decision by the NZ govt.....Have they forgotten to stand up and applaud this decision is this the reaction that is expected by current and ex pakistani players, i think not.

People don't realize but the outrage by the PCB, players, fans, pak govt is clearly being noticed by the ICC and the ECB, NZCB who are on the defensive. Impossible to ignore the volume from a nation of 220 million for very long

A guy who chooses to serve his franchise rather than be on national duties can't possibly have a locus standi on such a sensitive issue . This should put to rest the argument that Kiwis are the nice guys of international cricket. while they may not be as profane as Australians and Indians, they are every bit the hypocrite their bosses are.

Here is a reaction from Indias largest newspaper - https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com...england-cancel-tours/articleshow/86398121.cms

Indian posters should spare us the sanctimonious lectures and focus on their media. Incredible for a country that allegedly doesn't;t care about Pakistan...they seem quite obsessed.

:))). These losers taking solace in things that are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. I mean in sports of all things? :)))

I guess they don't have much else to cheer for these days that they have to scrap the bottom of the barrel.

Mohammad Abbas said Thursday that Pakistan felt "hurt" by the "strange" decision of English cricket chiefs to cancel tours for their men's and women's teams next month.

Paceman Abbas added it was a poor reward for Pakistan's decision to tour England last year at the height of the coronavirus pandemic in Britain.

"Obviously when you give 100 percent, you need to get back the same things," he said. "It hurts us."

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) cited "increasing concerns about travelling to the region" on Monday just days after New Zealand also pulled out of a tour to Pakistan over security concerns.

However, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Christian Turner, confirmed the decision was taken by the ECB on the grounds of player welfare.

Pakistan travelled to England last year at a time when Covid-19 infection rates in Britain were among the highest in the world for a three-match Test and T20 series that saved the ECB millions in television rights deals.

- 'Sacrifice' -

"We are sacrificing lots of things, so it's strange for us," Abbas, playing for English side Hampshire, told reporters after the south coast club were denied the County Championship title by a dramatic one-wicket loss to Lancashire at Liverpool.

"We are disappointed."

The first trip by the England men's side to Pakistan since 2005 was only meant to last four days with two Twenty20 matches in Rawalpindi on October 13 and 14.

Two women's T20 matches were scheduled on the same days as double-headers with three women's one-day internationals to follow in the same city.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja said he felt "used and then binned" by the ECB, with Abbas saying: "We (Pakistanis) love cricket, we want to play cricket, we were here at a very strange time when the Covid was everywhere.

"I am proud of our security agencies so it hurts us that they (England) are not going to Pakistan."

Abbas, a veteran of 25 Tests, said the fact several England cricketers, including Hampshire captain James Vince, have played in the Twenty20 Pakistan Super League in recent seasons made the decision to cancel the England tours all the more perplexing.

"We played together in PSL for Multan Sultans so they (English cricketers) were happy, they are happy to go to Pakistan. I spoke to him, he said 'ECB spoke to you for advice, I said 'no they didn't get any advice from us'. They took their own decision."

The 31-year-old Abbas added: "I am a professional player, if anyone needs me I will be available for them. If countries are not respecting us, we will see what's best for our country."

Had Hampshire won on Thursday they would have secured their first County Championship title in 48 years.

Lancashire were cruising to a target of 196 at 177-5 but lost four wickets for 17 runs.

England leg-spinner Mason Crane, who took 5-51 in all and also ran out Tom Bailey to leave Lancashire on 194-9.

But Lancashire captain Dane Vilas, a former South Africa international, hit the winning runs to leave his side top of the table, although they will be pipped to the title if Warwickshire beat Somerset in a match that finishes Friday.

Abbas, who took 5-48 in Lancashire's first innings but went wicketless in the second, was philosophical about the agonising outcome.

"It's the beauty of cricket," said Abbas, who took 41 wickets in 10 Championship matches for Hampshire this season at a miserly average of 15.87.

"We worked hard but it's part of the game."

Absolutely. I don't get why, even when we are wronged, the first instinct that some of us have is to be defensive. Why? We were the ones who were wronged. We have every right to express our anger and frustration.

And had we not expressed our anger and frustration (board, players, fans) the others would have assumed that they did nothing wrong. And this all would have blown over in a week.

True. I think if NZ canceled the tour before arrival than it won’t have bruised so many fans. Also, PCB should have legally signed a return tour contract with ECB, when they toured England last year.

Here is one and it was a pretty poor comment.

-------------

Thanks to the secutity of pakistan forces to make arrangements to blackcapS to reach at airport Safe & Sound. Wonder same route & same security but no threat today??? -- Hafeez

------------

So it seems Hafeez wanted some attack to happen to prove that threat was real. These players should stay away from Tweeter.

Absolutely dreadful conclusion to draw that Hafeez wanted an attack based on what he said in that tweet.

Shows how some of the guys criticizing Pakistani officials and players have zero understanding of what is going on.

They know what’s going on. They’re just here to score points.

I don't know why people say Pak players and people should not react or overreacting. I feel the reaction from Pak is a bit muted, they should let NZ know their displeasure in every way possible. I can only imagine the reactions if this had happened in India. People will be frothing at the mouth dissing NZ. There will be cries for all sorts of boycott and revenge.

Pakistan should ensure it makes so much noise without indulging in insults, in the future no team can even think about taking such stupid decision minutes before the start of the match. I can only imagine the damage it has done to PCB's finance and morale. I hope India/BCCI helps PCB in every way possible to cope with this instead of distancing itself away from the controversy.

NZ have not been able to activate their comments section for new posts on Instagram

Absolute carnage by the Pak fans. Let them feel the wrath of a nation wronged!

I would suggest PCB needs to proactively cancel the next year tour by NZ and replace them with someone else. Despite ECB's shenanigans, they are still more likely to come although I wouldn't blame PCB if they replace that series as well.

Alternatively, they should come up with an agreement with NZC that they will play them at a neutral venue, but that when it comes time for NZ to host Pakistan that series will always be played at a neutral venue, and the neutral venue cannot be the 3 western countries or India.

Not the way to do it.

Keep the ICC in the loop. Give NZ an ultimatum to commit to the tour or forfeit WTC points.

Make sure to have a signed agreement for abrupt cancellation on,
1. Security decisions made unilaterally
2. Covid cancellations (insurance of NZ should cover)
3. Mental fatigue (NZ should cover)
4. Afghanistan unrest (NZ should cover)
5. Any possible excuse under the sun (NZ should cover)

Keep an eye on the fixtures at the same time for Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh, South Africa, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan. Have any of these teams on Standby, maybe add them in to the tour and get them to play a one way tri series with Pakistan, where Pakistan can accommodate them with a second team if need be so.

It's unlikely NZC will agree to that, but even if they do, the problem is NZC might bail on the tour even if someone takes a crap in the stands, and it again looks bad on Pakistan. The optics of this cancellation have been quite bad for Pakistan and if any team is going to repeat that again it's going to to NZ.

Well then Pakistan should not return to NZ until they fall in line. It’s plain and simple. And let BCCI be the good guys and fill in for Pakistan as the fans would like to suggest here
