Pakistani fans are overreacting to this defeat, this is why reserve days are a bad idea in white-ball cricket

Reserve day changed nothing.

Pakistan lost the game the moment Shaheen got taken to the cleaners by Gill and Rohit.

I’m glad that we had a full game because Pakistan deserves this humiliation.

This treatment was necessary to bring the arrogant media and fans and the best bowling this and that brigade back to earth.
When will the delusional fans realise that Babar isn't half as good as Kohli (despite Kohli regressing). Most of his runs have been made against mediocre attacks ,I haven't seen him boss a run chase in any important match

Pakistani fans are over reacting. Fans are already bashing our bowlers, doubting their abilities and some have even started to doubt Babar, Imams and Rizwan's batting abilities.

Just last week this same team had India all out for 260.

Thing is, it rained. The game should had been declared abondoned yesterday.

Pakistan took the field prepared and match fit. They fielded a side for 24 overs before they went back to the dugout and kept watching the ground staff cover the field. Weather conditions changed and it affects the body aswell. When they took the field again today, obviously not everyone was fit, because today should had been a rest day.

Even today, there was a day and night difference between the conditions of the outfield from yesterday and today. Every part of the outfield was filled with sand to cover the damp areas. There were whole yards covered in dust with no grass in sight. Pakistani players were drained out of their energy by fielding for two days, plus, fielding at the outfield was more difficult as running on the dirt and diving was very dangerous.

Shaheen and Naseem needed rest. Shadab also needed rest as for him those 4 overs were nerve recking. Ifti missed a catch yesterday. Often when things dont go well you need a day or two to go back and rest and than come back prepared mentally and physically. Plus, this was not some ordinary game, but an India Pakistan game which both sides players say it is nerve wrecking.

On Saturday Pakistan had a training session. On Sunday we fielded for 24 overs and than on Monday we again had to bowl with a terrible outfield.

Alot of you might say India also had to go through a similar thing, well India did not had to field on the first day. It was the two batters that had to bat, and yes for KL rahul and Kohli it might have taken a physical toll to bat for two days straight in ODI cricket.

Thus, before criticizing the team, such things need to be kept in mind. Pakistan was not there mentally when they came out to bat. It was evident. But lets not take credit away for what they have achieved. Plus, the Asia Cup is not over and than we have the world cup. This was a tournament that should had been played in Pakistan, but due to politics we are dealing with this BS. So plz instead of criticizing your team and joining the Indian bandwagon to insult Pakistan, why not back these boys when they are down.

Because of petty politics we played 2 days of one day cricket. It was mentally devasting for players and fans, but back these guys as we have never had such a great ODI team before. There will be times when this team will lose badly, but than again this team is winning alot aswell.
People have also forgotten pakistan have had to travel 3 times in about 11 during their own tournament. That takes its toll and you could see it in almost every fielder.

After such a defeat, the fans reaction is not surprising. The fans understand that their team can't win all the matches but what they want to see is a fight even in the loss. A 228 runs defeat in a one day international isn't acceptable for a team that was at number 1 position in ODI cricket just a few days ago.

Way more than 3 times.

Hambantota to Colombo, Colombo to Multan, Multan to Lahore, Lahore to Multan, Multan to Colombo, Colombo to Pallekele, Pallekele to Colombo, Colombo to Lahore and Lahore to Colombo all in 12 days.

228 run loss - what do you expect the reaction to be.

If it was a hard-fought 28 run loss, you can sort of accept it, the team tried etc etc

But that record-breaking margin of defeat deserves nothing other than criticism.

The worse part is the way we were getting out; playing half hearted defensive strokes, edging behind, leaving gaps. I'd rather we be 100 all out if it meant we went for victory, playing with intent and scoring shots and getting caught in the deep.

The way Imam and Fakhar went out there it was clear there was no intention to chase this down and to just scrape together 250 to alleviate our net run rate

wow...I was only counting the SL to Pak flights but missed out the internal flights they would have taken. That's 9 flights in about 11 days with about 4 days of cricket. That is surreal.

Too much traveling, Start and stop due to rain, no practice time due to excessive travel, All these factors do have a huge impact when you are playing a tournament.

Let's not forget Rauf getting injured after 5 overs, Shaheen getting injured very early on and then the horror injury to Agha which would have gotten everyone down, while they were already knackered!

I won't keep beating the same drum but Pakistan fans should calm down and wait for Pakistan v India on equal footing.

Yes, I do have an opinion that we as Pakistani team fans are very impatient. We take a team to the sky when we win 1 game and the next game we lose and we are treating them like dust.

Are Pakistan fans overreacting or Pakistan management is??

If it’s just a match, just a loss, the first in 3 months blah blah blah…

Why 5 changes to the team in a virtual semi final???

Everything that the OP stated may have been substantiated had the effects of being on the field two days in a row affected the Indian team. But it did not.

Albeit on the first day most of the team was waiting in the wings but they were out in the field all day the next day. Not just that they had two batsmen who batted through nearly 30 overs and returned a third day. The Indian team too fielded in the same damp outfield, if anything under the lights the dew is worse.

In conclusion, there may be some merit to what the OP said, but were it not for how clinical India were on three days on a trot. Pakistan lost because they were a far inferior team. Sri Lanka lost because they too were an inferior team.

I think it’s the opponent who they lost to. A similar defeat at the hands of Australia or South Africa would be shrugged off. But losing to India or worse yet Bangladesh results in significant introspection due to the cultural ramifications of such a loss.

Absolute funniest outcome is if we win against Sri Lanka easily and then crush India in the finals. Will we suddenly be the greatest team again? Will the Indian team fans begin cursing their players again?

Us Pakistani fans are too hot and cold, we lost one game in months, no need to overreact. Inshallah as long as we stay healthy we will have a great World Cup.
