The decision to play Halime Sultan in Diliris Ertugrul is becoming quite taxing for Turkish actor Esra Bilgiç. While the historical drama gained great popularity in Pakistan, thanks to PM Imran Khan, the local fans of the show repeatedly criticise the actors for living their lives outside of their characters. On top of the chart for desi trolls this week is Bilgiç, with her recent feature in Victoria’s Secret advertisement. It seems like they’re under the impression that Bilgiç is actually Halime, and it’s frankly starting to get somewhat embarrassing.

Bilgiç took to Instagram to share her collaboration with the lingerie company while promoting their latest collection, Love Cloud.

As soon as she uploaded the ad, Pakistani fans flocked to the comments to act as moral police, infiltrating the comments section with unwanted advice. Feeling cheated over the Turkish actor's choice of clothes, a user commented, “Shame on you! After Halima’s character, you should be ashamed of this type of dress.”

A deep dive in the comments section truly showed how it was a testing time for Pakistani fans of the Turkish show. They expressed their horror, cursed the actor, and questioned her decision to play Halime in the show if she wanted to “promote nudity” later.
TV host and VJ, Anoushey Ashraf took to her Instagram story to point out the trolling on part of Pakistani men. “Why don’t men just unfollow her?” she wrote.

This is not the first time Bilgiç has had to face unwarranted criticism. Last year, after months of incessant moral policing on her personal photographs, ranging from comments about her dressing to how she must carry herself with dignity and respect owing to her on-screen persona, she gave a polite shut-up call to users shaming her. "Let me give you a little advice: Don't follow me, thank you,” she wrote. But, alas, it appears her Pakistani fans still have a lot to learn.

This is hilarious and it is not the first time. This happens whenever the actress uploads photos that show skin. Last time, she turned off her comments section after Pakistanis flooded her Instagram page, telling her to cover up. In another instance, she told Pakistanis to stop morally policing her.

Her Instagram page right now is full of Pakistanis and Turks exchanging barbs, with Turks telling Pakistanis , why Pakistanis do not let women to live their lives in whatever way they want.

People can get emotionally attached to fantasy drama characters. It takes some time to accept that there are reality.

She should be ashamed.
She was ertaguls wife, and she has bought shame to her family. Imran khan vouched for the ertagul family and look what she did.

We pakistanis are rightly feel cheated, our pm said to look at these people and their livings documented in Keeping up with the Muslims part Ertagul. She has bought shame to us and our religion.

We never knew she wore a bra underneath her clothes, which is a western piece of behoodgi, if we knew that such conspiracies were happening inside we would had banned her much before.

Pemra, tlp and imran khan should take action

How is this propoganda? This is the reality of the country where people have issues with how other dress and live their lives

Propaganda is where there is no debate. In this thread I am happy to debate, and I guarantee you that your friend from the other thread won't debate with me here. He or she won't even debate on his/her own threads.

Nah Sikhism does not have rabid mullah types forcing hijab down the throats' of women.
It is much more progressive and our Sikh Guru's fought against oppressive zealous Islamic bigots who were forcing people to convert.

Sikhism isnt even considered a seperate faith, its a branch of Hinduism in India.

In the UK we have Sikh Youth group. They are as extremist as anyone. If you think Sikhs can never oppress women, you need to educate yourself a lot.

Hating on women is something some men do from all backgrounds or religions and none.

I don't need lectures on my faith from zealots and haters of India and Indian culture.

Sikhism is considered a religion in India. Where does it say otherwise?

https://www.sikhnet.com/news/sikh-religion-and-indian-constitution

In fact, the Constitution of India does not define any religion, not even Hinduism. India’s Constitution does not give a definition of the term Hindu, but it does define to whom the ‘Hindu Law’ applies. For example, The Hindu Marriage Act of 1955 (which by the way is not the Constitution), by stipulating in Section 2 that the Act applies:

(a) to any person who is a Hindu by religion in any of its forms and developments, including a Virashaiva, a Lingayat or a follower of the Brahmo, Prarthana or Arya Samaj,

(b) to any person who is a Buddhist, Jain or Sikh by religion, and

(c) to any other person domiciled in the territories to which this Act extends who is not a Muslim, Christian, Parsi or Jew by religion

Here again we see that though Hindu Marriage Act provides for laws related to marriages of Hindus but extends the provisions to ‘Sikhs by religion’.It does acknowledge Sikhs as a separate religion.

The subsequent Anand Marriage Act provides further rights to Sikhs for a distinct procedure that is not in line with Hindu procedures.

It is like UN resolution on Kashmir all over again for Pakistanis. They have not read a damn thing in their life and just pass on off remarks without understanding. Not a single one here would have read UN resolution or Indian laws related to religion. Just posting false narratives to satisfy their ego.

Way too common. You’ll find such comments on Sara Ali Khan’s instagram posts, even on posts by Indian TV serial actresses who happen to be Muslims. Weird that people sitting in Islamabad, Lahore, etc. are so worried about all this. Why does it bother them so much?

It is a common psychological phenomenon.

During an interview, I think the adult actress was mercedez Carrera, who stated that man fanatasizes actresses in a particular manner and any deviation from it will bring wrath towards the actress since it doesn't fall in line with what they are fantasizing.

For example, if an actress is performing in particular genre, some men will see her the ideal girl for that scenario and if she jumps into another, they will be disappointed because the image of that actress that they had in mind has been "ruined".

Similar case is occurring here too. The actress was supposed to be same in real life also as those men fantasizing about her. May be it could be the last straw for them to keep up with the "good image" for women according to "their standard". But the ad took a different turn and that "image" was tarnished.

They feel somewhat authoritative in that image and hence they will question how it happened without considering their feelings. Thus, disappointed feelings will kick in.

It is wrong and these people are in delusion.

Stay on topic.

Read Post #1 again if not clear.

We arent here to babysit posters and remind them about basic things.

Pakistan’s obsession with Ertugrul and it’s actors is hilarious. It all started in Ramzaan 2020 when Imran, after getting humiliated by the Arabs who ignored his Kashmir pleas and sidelined with India, decided to cheerlead the Turks to make the war criminal Erdogan happy.

He promoted this show as an educational initiative and a projection of Islamic history which is laughable because this is a fictional tv series and not a historically accurate documentary.

It is like suggesting that Vikings is an accurate depiction of Norse history.

Since then, the nation has become obsessed with this show. If you don’t like this show or criticize it, is viewed as a constitutional crime. No one has any patience and tolerance for negative feedback for this show.

The actors have become national heroes and they have milked the nation like no tomorrow until that male actor got scammed by a Pakistani fraudster.

Furthermore, our public doesn’t seem to be capable of separating the actors from their characters - they feel like these actors have a duty towards Islam and Pakistan.

Our deluded nation needs to realize that Turkey is a secular country. They are going through a massive identity crisis (even bigger than Pakistan which is no small achievement) because for generations, they have tried to ape western culture before the self-appointed caliph and war criminal Erdogan rose to power and decided to revive Ottoman roots.

However, that doesn’t mean that these actors will live their lives mimicking the characters that they played in Ertugrul.

I don’t know too much about this Turkish drama in particular but I will say Turkish people are some of the most hospitable people around. In general I felt they were pro Pakistani.
I say this because I didn’t feel the same warmth when I travelled to some of the Arab countries like the UAE.

They are very easy going people but as some have said above they are not religious so this must be a big shock to the Pakistani religious police who don’t know much about Turkish culture.
These types will burn bridges to even Pakistan’s biggest allies if they don’t happen to 100% align with all thier backward thinking.

Always giving lectures to others but never focusing on themsleves to be better.

This is hilarious... the same ones critizing the actress are probably the same ones doing "research"... lol

Moral police usually needs moral policing

It's not just a Pakistani habit. 'Mansplaining' is a very very common phenomenon occurring everyday, everwhere

What is "mansplaining"?

I am a man so if I explain something, does it automatically get "mansplaining"?

"Mansplaining—when a man talks condescendingly to someone (especially a woman) about something he has incomplete knowledge of, with the mistaken assumption that he knows more about it than the person he's talking to does." - Merriam-Webster

I think it's very easy to be a mansplainer online as anyone can comment anonymously

These men have no problem with all the skin exposure in Pak films that mimic Bollywood? Yes they are hypocrites but hypocrisy is part of human nature.

The level of moral policing women in Pakistan face is unrivalled! It seems to me you do not know how much people are obsessed with what women wear in Pakistan. There is the reason why Ushnah Shah, Ayesha Omar, Amina and other actresses turn off their comments whenever they post a picture showing a bit of skin. They have, on many occasions, told Pakistani men to stop morally policing them and mind their own business.

Having lived in Pakistan, if you do not dress according to men’s expectations or you show a bit or skin, you are not worthy of respect and protection. This is the general perception according to my experience.

Yes i would agree in Pakistan that is the case. In an ideal world women in Pakistan would have the choice to wear what they want, whether its a burkha or bikini.

However forgot Pakistan as a whole. Lets just view Pakistani posters here. How many of them would morally police what a women wear, or tell female celebs on social media dont wear this? I would say close to zero.

Now on the other hand how many Pakistani posters will morally police Pakistanis on what tv shows (like Ertugrul) they are allowed to watch. Quiet a few have a problem with it. And unfortunately you are one of them. So before lecturing others look at yourself. You are not better than those people who are lecturing women on what they should wear.

I would disagree. In the Veena Malik thread, it's out there to see how Pakistani posters morally police here.

In the infamous chapatti thread, everyone blamed the wife for not making chapattis after she comes home even though the husband was working from home all day and there was a mother in law also in the picture.

Going by the past threads, your claim doesn't hold true. It's especially true for brit Pakistanis though than native Pakistanis.

Most men around the world want to see more skin and would appreciate the exhibition (even if secretly if they are hypocrite or not bold enough) - nothing wrong, its natural and biologically wired. Whats up with Pakistani men?

Don’t generalise, we are talking about a small demographic who like watching this Turkish drama in this case. There are plenty of backward people in the Middle East and Asia including India.

I wish Pakistan was as liberal as Turkey but it’s not as backward as some portray it is.
It depends on the area and the demographic. So many other factors come to play.

According to some posters in the other thread Sikhism it is mandatory for sikhs the same kucha daily and unable to cut their hair.

What is your opinion on rabid sikh gurus forcing men to have long hair?

I mean if a modern sikh wants to have a nice fade and calvin klein boxers whats the problem?

Pakistan is not as backward as people ( especially Indians here would like you to believe)

Nor is Turkey so liberal lol.

Half these man haven't left their front doors for two years.

Go to Turkey and you will be suprised at the level of religiosity, especially when they have had decades of secularism shoved down their throat at gunpoint.

The Azaan resonates in every city in Turkey and the mosques are packed. You will see women in Hijab everywhere and will be greeted warmly as a Pakistani, especially in Istanbul.

Of course if you go to the beaches of marmaris and antalya of course you will see people in Bikinis, but its disingenous to use it as a representation of the whole country.

For example i'm sure there are women in Bikinis in Goa but its unlikely in Assam.

If you are basing your theories based on adult film stars its clear why your posts are often illogical

I wouldn't go there if I was you. My memory of the Veena Malik thread was of loads of small dark skinned men slobbering over the chance to kiss her on the hand. Once again you have taken a side swipe at Brit Pakistanis even though this thread surely has nothing to do with them.

OP won't even engage with them, but if he is actually man enough to engage then let us do it quote for quote. Don't run away.

We can agree to disagree.

But your post is irrelevant to the thread unless you want to elaborate something specific in the context of the thread.

I didn't understand. You want me to do.... What?

If you ask me, for me Pakistan is the most backward country on this planet. The level of violence, savagery, and cruelty people face in this country is unrivalled and unmatched. This is my opinion after having lived in Pakistan.

We have cultural practices such as karo kari where women who marry a man of choice are hunted and killed and they are not even given a funeral and they are buried in some backwater in unmarked graves.

Then, we have swara where little girls are given for marriage or servitude to an aggrieved family by the other party to settle a dispute. Girls are traded like cattle. I could go on and on regarding how human beings in general are treated in this country and how little value human lives have.

Once you start living in Pakistan and start reading news, you would come to the same conclusion.

I didn't understand. You want me to do.... What?

I didn't ask you to do anything. You mentioned Veena Malik from nowhere and I responded to that, you also mentioned Brit Pakistanis once again and I answered that. If you don't want to discuss either then don't go there. Is that hard to understand? I didn't bring them up, you did. Is it more clear now?

Massive identity crisis, please explain?
Even before Erdogan the West of Turkey was already very open / secular / modern.
The middle and east part are more conservative.

I am not denying there is a lot of backward areas of Pakistan, especially the more rural areas.

But trying to paint this as the whole country is wrong as well, there are plenty of more open minded people and areas as well.

Point being it’s not as doom and gloom as some portray it is (especially those who haven’t set foot in the country) but sure we can’t deny there are plenty of areas and people that haven’t or don’t want to move on with the times but a lot of factors like poverty, education, culture etc play a big part.

Her argument probably is that she's entitled to earn a living?
