KARACHI: A Pakistani cricketer has been let off with a warning after he allegedly brought a female guest to his hotel room in a possible “honey trap” plot during the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

According to media reports, the organisers had outlawed any such activities during the tournament to avoid any entrapment from match-fixers.

“The organisers had advised players to not invite female guests to their rooms,” a source told Press Trust of India. “In the case of this Pakistani player, he was advised in particular about a foreign national girl who was on the watch list of the anti-corruption investigators in the BPL.”

The player, who currently represents Pakistan, was pulled by organisers when security officials found the same female guest in his room. However, he escaped any financial penalties since he was an overseas signing.

Earlier, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) levied a record fine on two national team players for what it called “serious” breaches of discipline after they reportedly entertained female guests in their hotel rooms.

Pace bowler Al-Amin Hossain and batsman Sabbir Rahman were both fined around $15,000 for “serious off-field disciplinary breaches” during the BPL.

“The players have been reminded of their responsibility as national cricketers and have been warned that any repetition of similar acts of indiscretion in the future will result in a harsher penalty,” said the BCB in a statement.

The fines are the highest ever imposed on a Bangladeshi player on disciplinary grounds. Al-Amin’s amounts to 50 per cent of his BPL contract money for playing for the Barisal Bulls while Sabbir’s is equal to 30 per cent of his pay from the Rajshahi Kings.

Credit to European footballers that inspite of all those distractions they go down and play footie every weekend for a year, our cricketers seem so easy to be in controversies anyhow lets wait for more details.

Fingers point to the usual suspects in this case, especially when they are in the company of Chris Gayle..

Wonder who it is

They get up to even worse.

Not difficult to work out who this person is. A few clues in the article and also a major clue being the number of matches this individual played in the tournament.

These people never learn!

Are you serious?

Are you serious?

I knew i would be called up on this ,but its the matter of perspective for me considering the massive amount of scrutiny, fame, spotlight involved imho i find them personally better than cricketers.

The % of people also plays a part here and find it being brushed more than usual under the carpet for cricket than football.

Just read The Sun online each Sunday.

That's how I learn who is doing what with whom!

Is this why a certain player played every single match for his team in the first half of the tournament and then played none in the second half.

I think the mods will need to pretty vigilant on this thread :)

the usual suspects played good number of matches so its someone else i think.

Lol there were so many random Pakistani players in the league that it's gonna be impossible to figure out

Read some of the other articles on this topic.

You guys will figure it out.

yah but the player involved is currently representing pakistan so it narrows down the suspects list a bit.

Currently represents Pakistan means everyone who isn't retired so apart from afridi I guess everyone else is possible

Some news reports saying he is an all rounder who has done extremely well for Pakistan in recent LOI''s. ..I couldn't make out any all-rounder,who has done so well for pak recently

There is a huge cultural chasm here.

In the West we think this is normal behaviour, whether young sportsmen are married or not, and we are still laughing 28 years later at England sacking Mike Gatting for doing this. But we get shocked by polygamy in Pakistan.

Whereas you are not at all flustered by polygamy, but are trying to find out which moral reprobate this refers to.

It's incredible really.

NOOOOOOO!

That just leaves one

Plain stupid really really stupid...keep them out of team before they bring some more trouble and bad name.

absolutely horrible mindset.

I am not satisfied at all with BCB in this regard. They let this Pakistani go without fining him any amount of money. But for same crime, Sabbir and Al Amin both were fined huge amount of money.

Such huge that it is beyond the amount mentioned in any law of Bangladesh. If these 2 suite case against BCB , BCB will have to reduce the amount substantially for sure . But they won't, because of their international carrier and because of humiliation by public as this is a severe crime regarded for a national player in a Muslim country like us.I fully support BCB for this bold punishment given to these guys. And i would have been more happy if these 2 were suspended for some time from national team.

But why this double standard in case of same crime? That Pakistani was under same law when he was playing BPL.

It is obvious who the player is, here are some clues from this article which will lead you in the right direction!

- All rounder
- Current player
- Recently played well
- Have a careful look at the players in the photo!!

http://www.newindianexpress.com/spo...est-to-room-let-off-with-warning-1547955.html

Pakistan generally don't play all-rounders in test cricket (except Mohammad Nawaz who hasn't played in BPL as he is with the test team) = MUST BE AN ODI/T20 PLAYER

I wonder who performed well in West Indies series?!

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...most_wickets_career.html?id=11485;type=series

Saj queried the number of games for the player in the BPL...

BPL survives on Pakistani players for some international following and PCB may ban their participation in the future so BCB had to tread carefully

We are talking about Bangladesh, an Islamic country, where this type of behaviour is frowned upon while polygamy is legal.

Players must respect the society's norms where they are playing even though they may tend to disagree with them.

So, PCB allows and support this crime!I don't think so.

So does this mess up Shaharyar Khan's succession plan?

Can anyone tell what's wrong with inviting a female guest in the room compared to a male guest ??? Cricketers are there to play cricket and what they do in their personal time, should not be anyone's business.

Match fixing is just as rife, if not more so in football than cricket. They have had so many scandals. Especially and most notoriously in Italy's Serie A competition.

No!! BPl was successful without Pakistani players also!! And this time Pakistani players haven't done anything special except some rare exception!!!!!

It seems the woman in question is on some ICC ACSU list, so cricket authorities suspect her of having connections to fixers or being a fixer herself.

So lets make this clear.

Do NOT mention any player name here.

I don't think this issue has anything to do with culture or social norms. I doubt BCB would care about a player's personal life or the number of partners he has. This looks more of an effort to keep the T20 league corruption free.

Players are in BD to play professional cricket and perform for the money they are paid. They are not there to get religious education. Let them do what they want to do in their spare time. Don't think inviting a female guest is against the law in BD.

Sure. My comment was in response to Junaids's.

So cricketers have to be robots without any desires.

Incredibly tough on these young lads.

You have no idea :))) Footballers are absolutely crazy when it comes to the booze, women and drugs; part of being a footballer is that rock and roll life style especially here in the UK but am guessing it must be the same around Europe to and as Junaids said we just have to take a look at the sun newspaper every weekend

I actually meant w.r.t honey trapping even that Pantani has replied that isn't the case.

did he do it for the desires of lust or to gain money from fixing?

The idea is that the woman in question wanted to entice the alleged Pakistani into fixing through means of pleasure, we don't know whether the alleged Pakistani engaging in means of pleasure meant he was agreeing to fix or if he simply took advantage of the situation to have a bit of fun which is a lot more likely when it comes to guys

Correct. Which makes the player's behaviour even more stupid.

I think this explains why a certain player played so few matches for his team who were struggling throughout the tournament. Makes no sense otherwise to bench an in-form international player for so long.

Probably they wanted to send him home after the breach but PCB probably requested the BCB to keep the incident under wraps and let him stay until the end of the tournament so that no suspicions were raised.

And they are brothers like Giggsy😍

British tabloids are worst when it comes to family life of famous people hence we read lot more stories; but French, Dutch & Italians .... you know.

And the Latinos & Africans coming at 23, often gets a salary hike from $5-$25K/month to $100K/week, after tax😩

So, were only 2 matches played by him?

Can someone tell?

Junaids issue isn't inviting a female. It's inviting a known fixer or someone with links to fixing and specially when they were not allowed to do it in the middle of a tournament.

Trust me, same sanctions apply on Aus and other country players when they're in the middle of a tour.

Extremely stupid behaviour from the guy.He should have been fined. No surprise he wasn't given a lot of games.

Can anyone tell what's wrong with inviting a female guest in the room compared to a male guest ??? Cricketers are there to play cricket and what they do in their personal time, should not be anyone's business.

It's not about male or female, they were warned from before about this person because they have links or potential links with match fixing.

Most of PPers know who is the guys but cant mention here.. And people who dont know must be having butterflies in his stomach bcoz of excitement :))

Those who don't know will need 2 butterflies - because they have 2 tummies & no head:)

Extremely stupid act for such a budding career, because I feel this guy Shahriar is almost a sadist when it comes to discipline such issues - last time cost Raja Hasan 2 years of domestic career & this one is related to Match Fixing. He has given players a lots of space regarding their demands & comforts, but won't tolerate this. On top that Inzamam is the most powerful CS in many years .......

Saved the player's face. Otherwise would have been hugely embarassing for him.

His team should have sent him home and made it public why.

I dont think there will be any action taken on him by PCB. Its in BPL bro and if they dont consider performances in BPL then why consider this.. Also he is a good player...

But he has committed a mistake and if there was any punishment then BPL management should give that like deducting match fees etc....

I don't think polygamy is the problem here. This particular woman was on anti-corruption watch list and all the players were warned that she might be a honey trap for bookies. So that is the issue

If you had taken 2 seconds to read the article, it says that the female was on ASCU watch list and all players were warned that she might be a honey trap (meaning she might be luring the player to a bookie or want him to help in fixing herself after blackmailing the player). Despite this warning the player invited her

It's not about BPL performance, otherwise Ashar Zaidi would have debuted for PAK last year. He was retained as a player without playing for 9/10 matches & his team failed to win the title (that makes 6 options, so I believe my post will remain intact here) - the story came out after the Final, therefore I am sure it's managed between two boards.

BCB is part of ICC ACU & BPL is not out of their scope - if PCB allows to drift this one as well, it won't be a good precedence in ICC & next time someone might not get away with 3 months only for goofing up wife's pill.

Regarding match fee, you never know - for a Club cricketer, $10-$15K is lots of money. But for a PAK International with central contract, endorsements & other PL/PS money $15K is nothing - in that position, I would have lobbied to be docked twice the money for keeping things cool & hidden.

Players will have been shown pictures of her also ahead of the tournament.

Exactly, it was a foolish step by the player and he is lucky to get away with a warning

The Western culture is very acceptable and don't care who their favourite player spends their night with. In the sub continent, you have to worry about your reputation being ruined because of your "immoral" actions. If someone were to honey trap an NBA player or an EPL player, the league will destroy the people operating behind it and ruined their lives. Besides those athletes knows that everyone knows they sleep around all the time. ICC is just a governing body and can't work with 10 + countries. IPL, BPL, PSL and CPL look should be cautioned about this. Besides these players might be just hooking up with women who are just interested in players and not have any bad intentions. Youtube "Guy Pretends He Got Drafted In The 2015 NBA Draft [LABS]". Some women will throw themselves on to male celebrities. My high school coach played pre-season games for an NBA team back in early 2000s and every time they went out they had unbelievably gorgeous looking women looking get with them and get pregnant so they can reap child support money or just live as a wife of an NBA player. Even prior to the internet age, they knew which player had more chance of making into the final squad and who didn't. Every player was advised not to sleep with women they meet during the camp and even if they did they were told to dispose the used materials by themselves or some women will not dispose it but rather use it to impregnate them. It is a scary world, you may have been an ugly duckling all your life, but when you are become a professional athlete all of a sudden women will find you "cute". Unfortunately it is hard not to fall for those tricks.

Some news reports saying he is an all rounder who has done extremely well for Pakistan in recent LOI''s. ..I couldn't make out any all-rounder,who has done so well for pak recently

He is meant to be one of the more sharper guys and I'm shocked he participated in such acts, despite being told beforehand.

So stupid of him and fortunate to get away with a wrist slap.

If he were to name and shame the player then Pakistani wouldn't send their players to play in BPL. It would become a bigger issue and then BPL will get a bad rep. They did good.

I think it was a bit wreckless but I don't think we should jump to conclusions.

What if the player didn't care about the potential blackmailing as he would never fix? He is one of Amir's closer mates in the team so I am sure he is very aware.

His cricket career to date (even from a younger age) shows he is held in high regard from a leadership point of view

And from what I saw from attending the matches over the summer against England, he seemed to spend the most time practising (on match days anyway)

Correct. Which makes the player's behaviour even more stupid.

Credit to European footballers that inspite of all those distractions they go down and play footie every weekend for a year, our cricketers seem so easy to be in controversies anyhow lets wait for more details.

naive or uninformed.

OK, must be a minor things, hence he was let off with a waning only, not a big deal. Guys have a life, plz talk about player's on field performance or lack of it here and not other masala stuff.

There are always two sides in a story and the truth generally lies somewhere in the middle.

Not ready to accept that that player was conspiring to be involved in match fixing. Just yet.

Lol think I know who it is but won't say. Brainless behaviour from this individual if true

That's very saddening if true.

I excepted better decency from our brotheren Pakistani players. They could not play good cricket in field and now this.

Simply disgusting.

Whatever, I think there should not be any discrimination between any foreigners and bangladeshis. Penalty is penalty. Fine is fine. I say, cut his wage to at least 80%. Then it will be a good message to the younger cricket generation. Unless more this sort of characterless behavior will surface and will demean cricket's 'gentleman's game' structure.

I hope bcb will also further ban this cricketer from future bpls.

I thought at least bpl will be away from this kind of shameful controversial activities especially when when rotten bad apples of cricket aka Indian cricketers don't participate here. But alas I was proved wrong by this Pakistani lad.
