Every day I scroll through Instagram or Twitter and I see some privileged Pakistani 'intellectual' who has done nothing tangible to help anyone in Pakistan, post or share the same thing about how colonialism is the cause of our woes and how Europe still benefits from it to this day. How, without colonialism milk and honey would be flowing in our land.

I have studied colonialism extensively through the past few years and while I firmly agree that it was evil and had negative effects on our country that still can be seen to this day, many countries have flourished despite tyrannical rule in their past. The truth is that these Pakistanis can not stop crying about it because it is an easy excuse.

Colonialism is not the reason our literacy rate is so low. Colonialism is not the reason for the intellectual downfall of our people. Colonialism is not the reason our men prevent our women from being productive, and the women who do have the ability to do something would rather stand in lines at clothing stores. Colonialism does not explain religious extremism or the irrational hatred of anything religious by drug and alcohol addicted fake Pakistani progressives. Colonialism is not why landowners are allowed to pay their workers slave labour while their spoilt children have private security and guns. Colonialism is not the reason my electricity goes for hours and there is a flood outside my house when it rains in Karachi. It does not explain why so many well to do, educated Pakistani men and women are morally rotten, materialistic etc.

The argument can only be stretched so far. How many years do we wait before colonialism stops being the main culprit of our problems. 50 more years? A 100 more years? Do you see the flaw in this argument. The responsibility is on us as a nation to be get better. To own up to our problems and work towards fixing them instead of blaming something that happened in the past. Our current problems are our responsibility. Our own actions caused them and our own actions can fix them.

Hmm weird I didn't know Pakistanis blamed GB for their issues, if anything GB was instrumental in creation of Pakistan.

It’s not the reason I had to fear for my life when going to middle school just because it was a little far from my house. Although Alhamdulillah the law and order situation is one thing that has gotten better compared to a few years ago atleast in Karachi

It took me less than two minutes to type this whole thing out. I was so mad at reading this anti colonialism story being shared by Pakistanis for the umpteenth time on Instagram that I just had to quickly rant

Yeah. It is time to move on.

What British Empire did was evil but it shouldn't be used as an excuse to mask modern day problems.

Not really. British opposed Pakistan, and did their best to stop it from being created. The credit/blame goes to the Muslim League.

who would you blame for the landlords that exist in the country and control a huge amount of wealth which allowed them to get hold of the power of the state?

Do you think had our constitution not been 9 years late, things would had been better?

Those who blame colonization for the reasons of poverty in Pakistan are not well informed. Colonization is not the reason Pakistan in 2020 is poor. 70 years is a long time to take a country out of poverty.

South Korea was dirt poor in 1947. Japan had colonized them for decades, however look at them now.

nothing can be more further than truth. GB tried very hard that Pakistan could not be created. When GB realized that Pakistan is inevitable then it tried its best to make Pakistan crippled. It committed huge injustice in the Kashmir and other states. India provoke militants hindus and sikhs to attack and rape and kill muslims brutally and force them to migrate to Pakistan so that Pakistan become crippled. India then stopped Pakistan's payments of its share so that Pakistan get destroyed financially. It is really a miracle that Pakistan survived.

The issue that I find here is, you accuse India a lot. But when someone gives replies to your accusations and shows the inaccuracies/imaginations/weak education, you go missing.

Same goes for threads where you criticise Pakistan.

There's rarely a thread where you have more than one replies.

May I ask, why is that?
