A top Emirati security official, known for making controversy-catching remarks on wide-ranging issues, took to Twitter to denounce Pakistanis, accusing them of being a "dangerous threat to Gulf societies".

In his recent diatribe on April 1, Lt Gen Dhahi Khalfan, who is the head of general security of Dubai, wrote in Arabic: "The Pakistanis pose a serious threat to the Gulf communities for the drugs they bring with them to our countries."

<a href="https://t.co/LTCj5OW98m">pic.twitter.com/LTCj5OW98m</a></p>— ضاحي خلفان تميم (@Dhahi_Khalfan) <a href="https://twitter.com/Dhahi_Khalfan/status/980359090131042305?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 1, 2018</a></blockquote>

The tweet, followed by a series of similar attacks targeting Pakistanis, came in the backdrop of a drug racket being busted in Dubai. The tweet was also carrying a photo apparently showing three Pakistani smugglers, along with the drugs allegedly recovered from them.

No government data is readily available to show that Pakistani citizens have been involved in certain crimes in UAE more than immigrants belonging to other countries.

Khalfan resorted to generalising, however, asking his fellow citizens "not to employ Pakistanis". The security official, who was the head of Dubai Police Force until 2013, termed it a "national duty to stop hiring Pakistanis”.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="ar" dir="rtl">دعوة إلى المواطنين بعدم تشغيل الباكستانيين.</p>— ضاحي خلفان تميم (@Dhahi_Khalfan) <a href="https://twitter.com/Dhahi_Khalfan/status/980362237696204801?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 1, 2018</a></blockquote>

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="ar" dir="rtl">إيقاف استقدام العمالة الباكستانية أصبح ضرورة وطنية</p>— ضاحي خلفان تميم (@Dhahi_Khalfan) <a href="https://twitter.com/Dhahi_Khalfan/status/980362648285077504?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 1, 2018</a></blockquote>

In continuation of his diatribe, the official went on to make sweeping comparisons between Pakistanis and their arch rival Indians.

“Why are the Indians disciplined while disruption, crime, and smuggling are prevalent in the Pakistani community?” he wrote, according to uaeviral.com.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="ar" dir="rtl">لماذا الهنود منضبطون؟
<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Dragging people from Bangladesh into the verbal assault, Khalfan suggested that Pakistanis should be subjected to increased inspection, similar to what Bangladeshis had to face "because of the criminal tendencies".

<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
“We became strict with the Bengalis because of the criminal tendencies they have shown. Pakistanis must be placed under an increased level of inspection.”

If you go to Dubai you see Pakistanis run so much of that city (alongside Indians, Americans and Brits), this guy better get ready to apologise or get the sack.

No love from arab bros.

In America, Arabs and Pakistanis get along pretty well. One bigoted police officer's statement doesn't represent an entire community. All the Saudi students I've met here have beem very friendly and always got excited when they found out about my Pakistani heritage, some of them even know urdu.

Just Top Emarati security official? Recent diatribe? He is THE HEAD PONCHO and eyes and ears of everything that happens locally in Dubai. Almost nothing happens without him knowing about it. The guy has been "The Law" when it comes to Dubai police for the past 40 years. He is a Yemeni of origin but a just man and only second to Sheikh Mohammad when it comes to local law and order issues. What he said about the Pakistani (among many others) drug dealers is true and it does happen a lot, hell they don't even disclose 90% of their busts to not spoil their image. Leave it to the keyboard chest thumpers to bellyache though.

I do remember a Gulf Arab guy telling me how a lot of Pakistanis and Afghans run the drug scene over there. Guess they can't resist some good kush lol.

Some guy from my village got beheaded in Saudi for drug traffiking years back, people still risk it.

I don't have any interest in Arab countries at all. Alhumdolillah, Pak fauj has greatly reduced terrorism in the country. Look at the state of Palestine, Iraq, Yemen and Syria! These corrupt Emritis or whatever you call them should do something for their Arab brothers instead of picking fights with Pak. It is the Pak army that is training the Saudi army as I speak. They are always seeking the help of our military. Dubai is run by expats anyway or does this fool not know!!?:misbah4

Afghans are generalized the same way by Pakistanis so what goes around comes around. Such statements are not a big deal in non western countries anyways, people will be over it few days.

You sound like someone who knows Dubai well, because all this is true and only those who lived there for a few years know this...

However this issue has been there since the 80s....

The public outburst is now, and that is because the motivation is political (Turkey, Yemen issues and so on)

Things like this contribute to the general overall negative perception of Pakistan not only in western countries but also in Arab world..true fact..

The issue has been there throughout middle east for decades.. Just look at how many pakistanis were beheaded in the last decade in Saudi Arabia

Nothing Islamic about drug smuggling. If he's right then the blame has to lie with the Pakistani crooks.

This is 100% true. this is not a Muslim issue but a pakistani issue.. Pakistani issue mostly because it lies in the epicenter of opium production and distribution..

That is what is so conflicting though...the Taliban and other such groups which blow up historical monuments or minorities for being unIslamic don’t seem to have a problem funding their operations via opium trade.

Taliban actually stopped opium production before they were overthrown, their crackdown on drugs wasn't really popular at home because a lot of Afghans depend on drug trade for income. Since they are now out of power they are alleged to use the drug trade to fund their operations, but I really don't know the truth of that, probably best left for a separate topic since we are talking about Dubai here, and I don't think their problem is with the Taliban.

Woefully incorrect.

It is Afghanistan which is responsible for 90% of opium and distribution world wide.

If you think the remaining 10% is considered an epicentre, then God help you.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opium_production_in_Afghanistan

i said production and distribution.. not just production.. here is a quote from the article you linked

""Southern region" of Helmand and Kandahar provinces, on the border with Pakistan, which are the highest-volume areas for drug transactions. There is a traditional route from Helmand, through Pakistan, to Iran"

that traditional route is what I was talking about.

I was fooled by what?

what is old as Bible? the news that Pakistanis is a threat to Gulf? that is what the OP is about..

You serious? Pakistan is a threat to the world! Not just the Gulf! That's the worldwide narrative, lets follow the narrative, do NOT read the OP, because it's not the drugs that are the threat is it! ALL drugs in Gulf are imported from Pakistan! Nothing from North Africa, Egypt, or Jordan, or Afghanistan, nope ALL from Pakistan! The epicentre of not just Opium but Amphetamines, Cocaine, Heroin, Ecstasy, Cannabis - wait - did I mention Ketamine?

Plus the security official tweeting in the OP quit his post in 2013. FIVE YEARS ago but decided to tweet a few days ago. Talk about leaving his concerns for the 11th hour.

Of course, only Pakistanis smuggle drugs into the Gulf. Only Pakistanis are executed in the Gulf for drug smuggling. Gulf statistics on crime are kept mostly a secret. No government data in the Gulf is readily available to show that Pakistani citizens have been involved in certain crimes but no, Pakistani are 100% responsible! Which reminds me, why did you mention opium when the OP doesn't mention anything of the sort?

Like I said, just follow the narrative instead of enlightening us with BREAKING NEWS - it will save you time from explaining yourself and more importantly doing your own research.

Nice one! :19:

Worked in many places in the Middle East but never been to Dubai except for passing through the airport when changing flights. What does Dubai have to offer to the average foreign visitor (excluding expats who are there for the $dosh) who's not into bars, clubs or duty-free shopping? Please don't say trips to the desert or the beach! And also factor in the racists attitudes towards desis, blacks, orientals etc. (ie everybody except other Gulf states Arab's or (white) Westerners).
Serious question.

My favorite thing about the middle east is the food. Period. In the Gulf, people have the luxury to try all different kinds of Arab/Mid Eastern food...there's tons of variety and it's also authentic and cheap. That's the only thing of value...

I didn't say the Middle East in general (I've lived/worked as a 'Western Expat' in a number of Middle Eastern countries). I asked about Dubai. As for Arabic food, you can get that anywhere. Not just in the Middle East. Believe it or not, you can even get it in London!

So basically you have no argument?

Great food, great hotels, great beaches, loads of great water activities. Might not be your cup of tea, but many people go for those sort of things. It's not great if you want to see historical culture.
