Actor's list is long at moment, as I m unable to remember some actress names. let's see who tops the chart as BEST. Not counting their some of dramas in private channels aired recently in last few years. As seems these actors don't care much, but their performance in ANY PTV drams is still best. As PTV directors know how to make these actors/actress work for their role.

For Me :
1 : Talat Hussain
2 : Qavi Khan
3 : Shakeel, Sohail Ahmad

I have a very hard time ranking cricketers and i follow cricket 24 7 so it's impossible for me to rank people who i haven't seen for 6 years!

Did you include Rambo rambo jaan rambo?

not talking abt ONE Hit wonders. In that case, there are alot of actors missing. talking abt guys who really performed over the years.

If you want to put Rambo, then I will put Ismaeel Shahid (from Peshawer) way ahead of him, his drama "Jhoot Ki Aadat Nahi Mujay" was fantastic drama.

During this summer got hold of some old (late 70s and early 80s) dramas of Khalida Riasat and Roohi Baano. This is the first time I saw them. I think, both come in top 10 along with Uzma Gilani!

those are generally pretty good lists. but I don't agree with a lot of the order in the rankings and there are some very notable omissions in the list such as:

Actors:

Saleem Nasir (he would be at the top of my all-time list - he was a genius)
Mehboob Alam
Subhani Bayounis
Mohammad Yousuf
Sohail Asghar
Shafi Muhammad
Talat Hussain
Noor Mohammad Lashari
Arshad Mehmood

Actresses:

Shehnaz Sheikh (one of the finest actresses one could hope to see, imo. never mind the fact that I wanted to marry her but missed the boat by about 25-30 years)
Khalida Riyasat (magnificent actress - one of my absolute favourites)
Azra Sherwani
Badar Khalil
Ghazala Kaifi
Ishrat Hashmi
Begum Khursheed Mirza
Kursheed Shahid
Saba Pervez
Huma Nawab

Humayun Saeed is a hack at best. all his characters are utterly disposable. he has no variety. all great actors have had to prove themselves in a variety of roles. Saeed has none.

to even list his name as one of the best Pakistani actors ever is an insult to Pakistani drama and all the great artists who have dedicated their lives to their art. men like Saleem Nasir, Qavi Khan, Mehboob Alam are true artists worthy of being celebrated for a long, long time to come. I for one do not expect to see an actor better than Saleem Nasir in my lifetime.

hamayun saeed is a crap actor...
Faisal Qureshi is doing a good job now a days and can be rated as good actor.

but the baap of all actor is Moin Akhtar. u say variety... even he can never tell how many different roles he has played... he is just greatest actor in pakistani drama or i say subcontinent drama.

in ladies i think bushra ansari and marina khan. uzma gilani is also heck of an actress.

and yeah bheroze sabzwari is also my fav... and john rambooo.. ohh cant forget.

I am not an avid watcher but I have seen some great actors from my point of view. From the men include Latif Kapadia, Talat Hussain, Noman Ejaz. From the women I have seen Ayesha Khan, Rubina Ashraf, and Jahan Ara Hayee do some excellent jobs. There is also a lot of potential in the youngsters. The best I see include Faisal Qureshi (and his brother Wujood), Humayun Saeed. Sadia Imam and Ayesha Khan are ok.

Damn I missed so many actors in my list :P
and that 1st list is only for list only.

Hamyoon Saeed may be Fav actor in this new era. BUT he ll never come close to gr8 actors like Qavi Khan,Talat Hussain,Khyam Srhadi, Firdaus Jamal, Abid ali etc. etc.

BTW who were actors in Classic Drama "Waris" ?
I remember this drama very little and only actor I remember in that drama was "Shujaat Hashmi" (m i rite?) who were other actors ?

the main players were:

Mehboob Alam (the legendary Chauhdry Hashmat)
Munawwar Saeed (Chauhdry Yaqoob or Qoobia as his father calls him)
Firdaus Jamal (great acting)
Aurangzeb Alamgir
Uzma Gillani
Tahira Naqvi
Shujaat Hashmi (he was just brilliant)
Abid Ali

some of the names I can't recall. all in all, it was a huge production and there were many masterful performances. it was one hell of a drama and one that I'm looking to add to my collection.

also, that girl who played Munawwar Saeed's daughter was just gorgeous. pity that I never saw her again...

Those who were fortunate to see him perform on TV, will have no doubt about the best actor category: Saleem Nasir.

thank you.

it is obvious that you're not just a teeny bopper who's only seen Sadia Imam and Humayon Saeed "act" in his lifetime.

Pakistan has had many great actors over the years but Saleem Nasir was on another plane altogether.

Waris drama available anywhere on net ?

pakistanvision.com used to stream it online. I don't know if it works any more. you can try it in their drama section.

if you're talking about the dvds, yeah you can buy them too. try dukandar.com or desistore.com. I bought Umrao Jan Ada (a Geo drama - absolutely brilliant though I hate Geo the channel) from desistore and was satisfied with the purchase.

there are others but these are the ones I know about...

Anyone watched Jhok Sayal ? That was another classic.

which drama is that Miggy ? :13: recent one or an Old ?
Never heard of this drama :20:

This preceded Waris - was the first of many based on the Jageerdar and their influence in the villages etc

Famous phrase "Pir Sayeen Ayengay tay Mithay Chawal Khawangay" was from this drama - ofcourse this is quite old now ( it was in black and white )

oh ok don't rembmer much abt B/W dramas.

What was drama's name which made Javed Sheikh famous ? It was comedy drama as well

nah yaar, this one (you are talking abt) is recently realesed.
But what I m asking was in Black & White days. I think he used to stuck on one word when talking something like that

haven't seen it. Ammi talks a lot about it though. has been on my to-watch list for a while now.

I believe this also starred Shujaat Hashmi and he played Saidu Paggul? I've been told he was brilliant in it... saw an interview of Hashmi and he is really something.

Ammi also talks very highly about a play where Sahira Kazmi played a village girl complete with lachas and everything. she said her character was something to watch...

don't know about getting stuck. but Sheikh became a superstar with "Shamaa" which starred Ghazal Kaifi as Shamaa.

The guys that played kashif, gulsher and fraz in AlphaBravoCharlie deserve a mention.

Also the guy that played fiasal in sherpur(airforce drama) is a good actor.

Wasn't charactors in ABC were real Army officer ? wat was name of lead female girl? haven't seen her after Alpha Bravo Charlie.

Wat was real name of "Faisal" in Shehpar (I think that's drama name not Sherpur)

Aashir Azeem (Dhuan main lead charactor) had brilliant accent of Urdu.

Capt Gul Sher was played by Captain Qasim and Captain Kashif was played by Captain Abdullah.

Abdullah left the army later on to pursue a career in showbiz which does not seem to have worked out too well for him. he looked far better than he really was as an actor because of the genius of Shoaib Mansoor. his character was so powerful and touching that pretty much anyone could've played him and won the people over. this is not to say he didn't do a good job but imo, he looked better because of Shoman's superlative writing and directing. he came in a few dramas after but with little success.

Faisal's of Shehpar's real name is Faisal Rehman. he is a fine actor and has been acting for a while though he took a long break before coming back in Shehpar. he also did movies once upon a time. he generally does good work though I wish he would be more picky with his projects. either way, he is what you would call a professional actor as supposed to hacks like Humayun Saeed, Ijaz Aslam, Abdullah Kadwani, etc.

Ashir was really quite something. he was a very, very capable actor and writer. had a real sense of style though one could say that Nabeel stole the show in Dhuwan with THAT scene. nevertheless, Ashir was brilliant in his own right.

all great comedies.

personally, I think the Studio Dhai episode on "minibus drivers" is the funniest thing I have seen in my life bar none. Moin Akhtar as a Pathan driver was at the TOP of his game. he has not been able to surpass the peak of Studio Dhai. Anwar Maqsood too was at the height of his powers as a writer. just magnificent stuff from the legendary duo. Qazi Wajid also did some good work in one of the episodes.

Angan Terha - what can one say of the chemistry between Saleem Nasir and Bushra Ansari. this is one of those timeless classics.

In Fifty Fifty, everyone was very, very good. but guys like Ismail Tara and Majid Jahangir were at another level. tribute must be paid to the comedic genius of all involved especially my hero Shoaib Mansoor.

WOW didn't know that he left Army just for showbiz. Bad Choice there. I think story of his character (specially that incident where he been lifted by helicopter towards top in very cold conditions) was based on real incident. In reality Captain Naveed (not sure abt name though) was lifted in sme fashion back in early 70s under same conditions etc.

Faisal Rehman I think is in showbiz for quite long now. Before he used to b regular in movies, but now he is more into dramas then movies.

Asshir Azeem was brilliant and all chractors had gr8 chemistry between them (as in Aahan as well), but feelings of ppl went with Nabeel when he died and famous Nusrat's song "Kise Da Yaar Na Vichrray" was played in background.

I like Shafi Mohammad, one badass actor I tell ya.

I love the way he delivers his dialogue. his Drama Aanch in mid 90s in one of PTV Classics.
And Talat Hussain delivery of dialogue is briliant as well.

Mutazalzaluzzaman Tarar as you are guy who knows quite a lot about pakistani drama's have you seen a drama called 'Tum se milkar' and do you know the name of the lead actor and actress in that drama.

Tarar, remember the showdown with Janu German in Choti Si Duniya? I recall some episodes of studio dhai, it had many coded messages in the dialogue taunting the establishment. Would love to see them now again.

the female lead was Shehnaz Khan. she married a doctor working in the US and settled there.

this is what the cast said when they did a "Making Of..." episode to explain her absence.

sorry haven't seen it. might have heard of it. if it's a recent drama (last 7-8 years) I wouldn't know of it. I don't watch today's dramas unless it is an exceptional production like "Umrao Jaan Ada" or something... in the last 5 years, our drama has changed so much (for the worse) that even diehard fans like me can't stand them.

once upon a time, our comedy was intelligent and our drama real. actors and actresses wanted to act - not look "glamorous". everybody wanted to excel and to convince the audience that that the actors didn't have any existence outside of their respective characters.

today there is no drama - they're just soap operas and I can't stand those. I grew up watching stuff like "Tanhyaaiyan" and "Hawwa Ki Beti" from directors like Shahzad Khalil, Sahira Kazmi, Shoaib Mansoor. so, today's "drama" is entirely beyond me.

Bro I too am trying to find that song, its was amazing and had really good lyrics it should have been released as a single.

I have no idea where you can get of that song or drama, I did try emailing www.cdstore.com.pk but they never got back to me maybe you might have better luck.

Mutazalzaluzzaman I fully agree with about the current state of pakistani drama's its at a real low, they have followed the indian way and it has ruined their charm.

They need to get orignal and start producing drama's of the standard of Unkahi, AlphaBravoCharlie, Sunhery Din and taniyhaan.

few lyrics of the drama song:

tum se mil ker, tum se mil ker
rehnay laga buss tera khaial
aab jo jo howey hum tu juda
ho jaye ga jena mohaal
tum se mil ker

How abt drama writers ?

1 : Fatima Surya Bajia
2 : Anwer Maqsood (he is brother of Bajia, rite?)
3 : Ashfaq Ahmad
4 : Noor-ul-Huda Shah

TV shows I used to wait for anxiously when I was a kid:

Samundar, Waris (on serious side)
50/50, Tanhayan (on a lighter side)

off the top of my mind
Male: Talat Hussain, Tauqeer Nasir, Saleeem Nasir, Abid Ali, Mohd Qawi, Shafi Mohd
Fem: Uzma Geelani, Bushra Ansari

Salim Nasir - what a truly versatile actor. I don't think anyone in Pakistan TV history has been his match in that respect. I still remember the sadness on learning that he passed away...

Thought ill bump this thread and say that tauqeer nasir is a fantastic actor. Wouldnt be a bad thing to mention ahmed shehzad here lol

Irfan Khoost is best best, simply for the role he played in Andhera Ujala. Used to like Sohail Ahmed too but don’t like him anymore because he takes part in racist comedy shows.

Noman Ijaz is a great actor! I have seen in different roles in different dramas and he has been great!

Best Pakistani actor?

Over the years we had many great TV, Stage and Movie actors like Talat Hussain, Abid Ali, Mohammad Ali, Nadeem, Shan, Moin Akhtar, Firdaus Jamal, Khayyam Sarhadi, Nauman Ijaz, Shabbir Jaan, Shafi Mohammad and many others but if you have to pick one who you think deserve the best actor title and why?

You can pick anyone from past or present. From TV, Stage or Cinema

My choice for the best actor is Moin Akhtar he inspired a whole generation of comedians in Pakistan and India. His program Loose Talk with Anwar Maqsood showed his amazing talent.

There are 400+ episodes of Loose Talk and Moin appear in a different character every time making it looks like he was made for this character.

Recently Loose Talk videos started getting many views from India when a meme went viral and now it looks like Coke Studio got a competition in attracting fans from other side of border.

Currently it is Shaan Shahid. Overall has to be Waheed Murad. Annoying attempts at being sarcastic on this thread should be removed.
