Pakistan recently at home:

Lost ODI series v New Zealand
Drawn Test series v New Zealand
Lost Test series v England
Lost T20I series v England
Lost Test series v Australia

What do you think about the home streak of Pakistan and what may be the reasons for these results?

That's embarrasing, quite embarrasing. Poor selection, rubbish captaincy, no planning whatsoever.

Not having a proper coach has also hurt the chances. And Shaun Tait as bowling coach, the less said the better.

Most worrying thing is our team and management don't seem to read pitches and conditions properly and don't plan accordingly

The pitches (especially for tests) have been awful. Someone needs to be accountable for thye pitches be it curator, PCB, coaches or captain.

Pitches were awful, but they were made to help the home FTB's and they even failed on that, at least against Poms.

Right from pitch preparation everything have been farcical. ODI type pitches for tests and test pitches for ODIs

Aus, England and NZ are better teams.

You just won the seires, so don't want to ruin your party, but NZ are not in same league as Aus and Eng. Phillips played a blinder today, that was the difference. Had NZ dominated all 3 games I probably would have agreed.

No shame in losing to better teams.

You are supposed to be the strongest on your home ground. Strong teams don't lose series after series at home, irrespective of the opponent. Pakistan has been thrashed in its own backyard by Australia, England and now NZ. If SA is going to tour in the near future, they will fancy their chances as well.

Pakistan needs to do some serious introspection.

The first game was lost due to the batsmen acclimatizing to conditions. The second and third the batsmen performed better.

We're not as good as Aus and England, but we don't have to be to be better than Pakistan.

Pakistan are middle of the pack, Aus and Eng the top 2-3 teams and we're around 3 or 4.

Since 2009, NZ ODI tours to Asia

BD : 2 series losses
India : lost all series
SL: Los 1 series, Drew the other
PAK : won 3 series and drew the other

They only win against PAK in Asia in this format

I don't want to drag the discussion. We shall see in the WC again IA :)

These were all good results for Pakistan.

Need to continue to play with such oppositions to improve.

NZ's ODI series in India in 2016 was very close. That Indian team was quite strong.
At the moment NZ are a better side.

ODIs I'd still favor us to beat you in the WC.

ODIs are our best format and the team is coming along nicely. Just need Finn to start turning those starts into something meaningful and Bracewell to start scoring runs and we'll be sweet for the WC.

Yes but I was actually surprised by just how poor Pakistan has been against NZ in UAE/Pakistan

Think we're touring India for LOIs soon, should be a good series and one I would like us to win. Our best chance to win given the decline of the Indian team across formats.

Indian pitches would suit NZ batters more than Pak pitches. Even some of the Sri Lankans were tonking the bowlers. Series is definitely 50-50

The track in the 2nd ODI is the one that will feature more in India

You all saw how we batted on that

Although Pakistan did miss the services of SSA, Shadab, Naseem and Imam today. First 2 for the entire series as well.

You obviously have not watched an ODI in India recently

How many ODI matches will be played in the course for 50 days during the World Cup?

After the first week or two weeks, the World Cup will be an absolute battle of spin

There will be multiple venues, each with multiple pitches. You might get used pitches that grips later in tournament but not turners. Also dew would take effect early in winters.

Terrible.

And to be honest, deserved these results.

Pakistan were outplayed in all those series. Yes the pitches didn't help but you can't deny the poor performances from the team.

Cowardice at times.

Lack of high quality spinner is the biggest factor. Until that is achieved results won't improve.

Poor selections
Mediocre captain
Useless coach
Zero game plans

Pakistan is now a minnow in all formats due to pathetic losers we have in important positions within team, captain and coach etc. deserved defeats in ever series at home to a team that plays like cowards.

Shaheen was missed and other teams were better. Pakistan are a good T20 side, decent in ODIs and poor in tests. So results weren't unexpected.

Nonsense with zero game awareness captain..poor team selection prior to new selection committee
Not giving domestic performers their due.
The highest run getter batter in Quaid e azam trophy history Kamran is yet to make debut.
The most consistent batter Usman salahuddin has just played 1 test match way back in 2018 and on foreign soil..how pity,?
The most dashing batter Tayyab is yet to make debut despite being 29 now..when will he play?
The most promising allrounder mubasir khan should have been with the team..
I wonder how will Pak improve???
First thing pcb should do is to divest Babar of captaincy..
Make Shahdab as white ball captain.

Very disappointing indeed. Pakistan do lack a world class spinner and I think giving Abrar a go in the ODIs is something Pakistan can look at. I'll be very interested to see how he performs in the PSL.

Pakistan missed Shadab with both the ball and bat in this series, and bringing Shan Masood for this decider as well as resting Naseem Shah were very stupid decisions. There was a series for the taking here. Pakistan anyhow have a few weeks off so resting Naseem for this game made no sense at all. Let's not forget Pakistan are also without their lead bowler Shaheen Afridi.

Hasnain has been poor for quite some time now, and I think Pakistan need to move on from him for the time being.

Need to give more chances to this roster! Just going thru tough time. We shouldn’t criticize our players. We went thru classless misbah era in the past. This can be easily fixed inshallah

Misbah was an awful Captain and coach in ODIs even a person who knows nothing about cricket could have done a better job nothing can be worse than his strategy and the batsmen he selected in the top order.

Aus, England and NZ are better teams.

NZ is not the better team. Dont try to fool others. England and Australia definitely are.

They have a very average attack and the middle order is very iffy. Even a Pakistani team, that is totally devoid of any confidence (and missing two of their best players in Shadab and Shaheen), almost won the series.

NZ was beaten comprehensively by Pakistan in their own backyard in the tri series just recently and the way NZ was schooled in the semi final was quite embarrassing. Pretty confident Pakistan has got NZ's number in the upcoming World Cup.

You are one rubbish poster I must say. Acclimatising to the conditions? They had played TEN days of cricket on that ground, Einstein! How long did they need to acclimatise?!

Spot on!

This point is not being highlighted enough but this is extremely embarrassing that the home team can't even read its own conditions and pitch. The opposition read the wicket perfectly in the second game and our dumb captain said that he would have chased, failing to read that the wicket was so dry that it would have spun massively in the second innings.

Today, they played on a fresh wicket that hadnt been used for months and the genius chose to bat first when everybody knows that under normal conditions, chasing under lights is the way to go in Pakistan!

Shambolic period in Pakistan cricket with the T20 World Cup final appearance
(somehow) being one of the few bright points.

Too many overrated and average players around, poor selections, poor tactics, poor coaching staff.

Lots of changes needed!

Not atmospheric, the pitch...

We're a poor T20 team with a bad record.

As for ODIs, we've made 2 consecutive WC Finals and are number 1 in the world. Tests we're world champions.

Pakistan for all intents in purposes are middle of the pack in ODIS and Tests and can not win series at home.

We will see how better the NZ team is in the ODI WC. Playing hacks at the top and in the middle is a recipe for disaster. Their ODI ranking of no. 1 is as credible as Rizwan/Babar getting to no. 1 spot in T20i rankings.

Do you think they played 3 games on the same pitch?

They used 3 different surfaces for the 3 games!!
Bro I think you're just confusing yourself now.

I know the game was played in the same ground, the first match the batsmen did not look fluent with no one able to cash in on starts. I put it down to not being use to the conditions.

Again, the bounce and pace of the pitch is going to take a while to get use to. Anyone who has played cricket before will know this. This is always an issue for foreign batsmen when they tour the SC, likewise SC batsmen when they tour Aus, SA nad NZ.

Tests and ODIs are different, the mindset is different on slow and low pitches it is a lot easier to think defend than it is to look for scoring options and go through the gears. Once you get use to it obviously it becomes easier as our batsmen showed in the second and third match. We also had new batsmen come into the team who don't have much experience in the SC or didn't get much of a hit out during the Tests to get use to the pace and bounce of pitches.

Well done! You won an ODI series; take another one for all I care. As long as your team keeps choking against Pakistan in the global tournaments, we as fans will be happy! :ssa
Well at least one of us is happy.

These are warm up games, don't take the losses to heart.

I don't even remember most of the ODI series we play.

New batsmen - Phillips and Santner.

Pretty sure rest of them played the Tests.

They played 2 TEST MATCHES on this ground. Exposed to 2 different pitches for 10 days, that gives you a complete feel of what to expect on the complete set of pitches on that particular ground. It doesn't matter which format you switch to.

If that doesn't acclimatise them to the pitch conditions of the ground then what will?

I am actually amazed that you wrote such a long explanation to back your illogical point. Your understanding of cricket is really twisted/convoluted (which is fine as not every fan is supposed to understand the intricacies of the game)

Even if we buy your logic, the behaviour of all the pitches of the ODI series was not same as they were played on different surfaces and had different pace/spin/bounce which would mean that team can never get acclimatised (going by your terrible logic).

Anyways, I won't add any further to my point. We should stick to the thread now.

I have taken it to heart? So you are not only terrible with your analysis but also your suppositions!

Nobody gives a damn about LOIs unless they are world tournaments and I know which team out of the two on show today performed when it really mattered in the last global tournament. :bobs

Reason for not playing youngsters in the series opener: we'll go for the kill so we need our best eleven.
Reason for not playing youngsters in the series decider: we can't risk losing due to inexperience.

The thought process behind both reasons is flawed and regressive.

There's an overarching, subconscious delusion in our management that we need to improve something we are naturally good at (bowling), while being casually optimistic about something that has plagued us for most of our cricketing history (batting).

Our strategy in bilaterals is almost always targeted at bowling the opposition out for under 250 instead of batting aggressively to 350+. Our selections are also bowling-centric. E.g. Usama Mir was promoted to the top, while Saim Ayub was ignored (should have replaced Shan, but he has a powerful daddy).

NZ went with 5 bowlers, two of whom were allrounders. Like for like player in case of Santner is Nawaz, for Bracewell is Agha Salman, for Ish Sodhi is Usama Mir, for Ferguson is Rauf, for Southee is Naseem. Why were we playing the extra pacer in Wasim or Hasnain?

Don't get me wrong. I was pleasantly surprised when Afridi included many youngsters in the list of probables, and then in the final squad. But I still believe his strategy was based on flawed assumptions even if he made correct calls in favor of that strategy.
