This series shouldn't happen, England need fresh & fit players for the Ashes, hopefully nobody from Ashes squad takes part in this series. Why are Brook, Bethell & Carse playing, they shouldn't be playing this meaningless bilateral series.

England register a 65-run win vs New Zealand in 2nd T20I

England put on a dominant batting display to soar to 236-4 in their 20 overs after being asked to bat first at Hagley Oval. The openers set the tone before Phil Salt hammered a blistering 85, laying the foundation for the massive total. Meanwhile, Harry Brook reused his explosive form to smash 78 off just 35 balls, including five sixes, putting New Zealand’s bowlers firmly on the back foot.

Chasing an imposing target, New Zealand never truly got a foothold in the match. The early breakthrough came when Brydon Carse struck twice in the second over, pegging back the hosts at 0-2. From there England’s spin duo seized control: Adil Rashid picked up four wickets (4-32) and Liam Dawson chipped in with two (2-38), dismantling the Kiwi middle order.

Although Mitchell Santner produced an entertaining cameo (36 off 15), he couldn’t stem the flow of wickets. New Zealand were bowled out for 171 in 18-odd overs, handing England a convincing 65-run win.

It was a complete team performance by England: the batters set the base, the bowlers and fielders executed when it mattered, and the momentum now swings firmly their way in the series. New Zealand, meanwhile, will rue the missed opportunities and fielding lapses that let the target balloon.

Scorecard

England's third T20 against New Zealand was washed out by rain in Auckland, giving Harry Brook's side a 1-0 series victory.

Just 3.4 overs were possible either side of an initial interruption. with the Black Caps reaching 38-1.

Severe weather has impacted flights and left thousands of people without power in New Zealand, though most of the disruption has come south of Auckland.

Brydon Carse had opener Tim Robinson caught on the deep square-leg boundary, while Tim Seifert targeted Eden Park's short boundaries and hit two sixes in an 11-ball 23 not out.

Despite repeated attempts to restart, the match was abandoned at 10:10 BST.

This series, which was preceded by New Zealand hosting Australia in three T20s, has been scheduled unusually early in New Zealand's season.

Only 20 overs were possible in the first T20 in Christchurch, an England batting innings shaded by the hosts, before Brook's side dominated the second match to secure a 65-run win.

The result is a first overseas series win for Brook as England's white-ball captain. They have won seven of their eight completed T20s since he took charge of England's white-ball sides in April in an encouraging start.

The New Zealand weather has denied Brook more time to fine tune his side before the T20 World Cup in February, though this series was always likely to be overshadowed by the Ashes, which begins next month.

England have only three more T20s, against co-hosts Sri Lanka from 30 January, before their World Cup campaign begins.

A three-match one-day international series against the Black Caps begins on Sunday (01:00 BST) when Ashes players Joe Root, Ben Duckett, Jofra Archer and Jamie Smith join the squad.

Archer will miss the first ODI in Mount Maunganui as his workload is managed. The Ashes continues to loom large.

Jamieson ruled out of ODI series with stiff side

BLACKCAPS pace-bowler Kyle Jamieson has been ruled out of the upcoming Chemist Warehouse ODI series after experiencing stiffness in his left side during training at Bay Oval on Saturday.

The 30-year-old pace bowler will return to Christchurch this afternoon for further assessment, with a target of returning for the tour by West Indies in November.

Coach Rob Walter said the decision to rule out Jamieson was precautionary.

“Kyle experienced some stiffness in his side after bowling today and we didn’t want to take any risks at this stage of the summer,” he said.

“We felt it was best for him to sit out this one-day series and give himself the best chance of being ready for the West Indies tour which starts on November 5 in Auckland.”

Walter said a replacement for Jamieson in the ODI squad would be confirmed following the completion of today’s opening round of the Ford Trophy one-day competition.

England ftb have shown their true potential. All the ftbs, with their pathetic footwork ,dismissed in 5 overs of an odi match shows how much destruction bazball has done.

All the hacks and FTBs Jamie Smith, Bethell got blown away this match. England 2019 WC Win was also unconvincing.

114 . 6

21 overs

England batting is either miss or hit. Little swing or spin they are finished.

66 runs partnership so far , Overton is looking good here , lots of overs to go , they should take time and bat out the overs , forget run rate just bat through.

These two are doing well , 150 more balls to go. If they manage to bat out overs they should be around 240 .

Beautiful over by Tuffy , two wickets in two balls. that has put a break on Poms recovery.

Brilliant hundred by Brooke considering the scorecard 190/9

Brook is playing one hell of a knock atm... Captain's knock in true sense...

Way too much movement in the first 10 overs.

0.89 degrees of seam movement overall and 2 degrees of swing for Zak Foulkes. And both Henry and Foulkes were very accurate in terms of length too.

Almost every team would collapse against that accuracy and such a high level of seam movement even in Test cricket, let alone white ball cricket

223 does not seem enough but gives bowlers some total to work with

Poor selection by New Zealand. You don't all four of Bracewell, Smith, Foulkes and Santner. You need another batsman in that lineup.

Well played Brooks, Top knock .England ODI team is pathetic since 2023. :kp
50 is a lot overs

You need to combine controlled aggression/hitting with sensible strike rotation

Bazball will not work most of the time

Even Brooks was quite lucky with few false shots.few went over the wk, missed the stumps and a catch drop by Rachin.Eng should respect the conditions .Root got a good delivery but they should have another one with good defence and offence.

Brook played far fewer false shots than the other English batsmen out together. 25 % compared to 33% for the others

Even then he was lucky to survive just like oval test.Brooks always gives opposition a chance when pitch is helpful. Ashes will be really interesting with this batsmen. It may be any time 50/5 or 100 all out.

2 in 2 for Carse

First ball duck for Kane.

England fighting back

Brook is a high impact player and these kind of batters always give opposition opportunities , that is how they play. Its not a negative aspect.

OK but still he played far fewer false shots than the rest despite batting at a tremendous strike rate.

That's incredible skill

He is a high impact player for sure. But my main issue is with eng bazball approach of ftbs to the core.jamie Smith got an amazing 100 against india and thereafter he went on missing on all helpful pitches.eng is full of such ftbs.

He plays like that on any tough surface or against any kind of good bowling either spin or pace. its simply says he has zero defence skills .players with skills will fluke some innings but won't last long / highly succesful.

Kiwis have upper hand still despite losing wickets , the target is not big , just need a couple of partnerships.

His sample is not that small.

From my experience in matches against India, he never scored any thing on tough surface.oval innings was the only exception on a decent track.even against kuldeep/varun , he will blindly brings out the sweep .

Its okay , it's not necessary for someone to score everywhere against all oppositions. If he is scoring runs against most oppositions it's still good enough. He is a clutch batsmen , not many like him around the world , and no one in England , he reminds me of kevin Pieterson
