Way behind. Regularly thrashed in Aus, NZ & SA.

Now..

Ind has conquered Aus
SL has conquered SA

When will our Test side achieve something of significance?

Pakistan almost conquered England in England 2-2 And 1-1. Pak nearly won the 2-2 series but for the usual batting collapse at Edgbaston.

PSL is the king.

It's all about the PSL and nothing else.

The new PCB regime is talking about focussing on the Test team....let's see.

almost sholmost. also all asian sides have won multiple series in england.

We were the best travelling Asian side for a long time but in past 10 years we have been awful away and it has coincided in the decline of our pacers we regularly won on England and NZ was able to pick off years in South Africa now barring UK we get whitewashed every SNA tour

The Pakistan batsmen have to start backing their bowlers. How many times can the bowlers restrict sides? How many times can they bowl without scoreboard pressure?

It may be time to purge sarfraz, Ali and shafiq.

The Misbah legacy still isn't wearing off continuous selection of slow timid batsmen is costing the team and turning wins into draws and losses.
If the batsmen are averaging over 50 then slower strike rates might be justified but the current Ones aren't even averaging over 40 and then they are getting full backing from Mickey aswell saying things like Shafiq will be come good he's a great player etc a whole aura of mediocrity spreads around the team and people are satisfied with below average performances.
The fast bowlers need to improve aswell and cash in on helpful wickets overseas by bowling tight and utilising the swing and seam movement on offer to the full effect.

Still blaming Misbah are we? Pathetic.

Not totally but Azhar Asad are the two golden boys of Misbah and are still the mainstay of the test team with little to show in terms of performance in recent times.

Yea well, Misbah did not force Inzi to select them after he retired. Poor excuse.

Almost. Lol. Tell us about actual series wins not 'almost' wins.

How long will you keep hiding behind 'this is Misbah's fault' excuse?

Pakistan is easily the best Asian Test side, although SL is doing very well at the moment.

Our Test team is full of Duds. From the current team only Babar, Haris, Shan, Hasan Ali, Shaheen, Abbas are actually quality. (Yasir UAE only)

We need to groom 3-4 quality batsmen who can average 40 -45 at least. One slow left arm bowler who can take wickets. And hopefully Shaheen can develop into a top class test bowler.

There's a lot to be done but it's not impossible. Fawad Alam can be recalled to being experience and stability to the middle order, as he can play spin very well.

Saad Ali and Usman Saluhuddin need to be groomed and be tried in the team. In a year or two, Saud Shakeel as well. thanks

One of Zafar Gohar, Umer Khan, or Ashgar. Need to be a regular on the Test team as a wicket taking slow left arm bowler

I am baffled why we never pick SLA, it's one area we have plenty of talent and it's a very useful thing to have in a tram

Anyways,. Lot of work needs to be done - half the team needs to be dumped.

It was as expected.

Younis and Misbah were massive in the UAE, and Ajmal cheating also brought us lots of unfair wins.

The former two kept us afloat when Ajmal got kicked out with the help of Yasir, who has slowly been getting better.

Our pacers are slowly getting the hang of it and we have Babar finally doing something, all we need now is Harris Sohail in the team and the other batsmen to be somewhat consistent.

Misbah is a classic Desi first born son: does the good for his parents, siblings, family, extended family, neighborhood, village, country... yet he's always first to blame

(some) Pakistani fans don't deserve Misbah!

Ah so that's the problem with our Test team - the strike rate !

What was India's average run rate in the Test series win in Australia ?

We lack quality. No way anyone in Pakistan can play like Perera or Fernando and Mendis did today.

Talent is finished in Pakistan. We are not going to be in the top 3 Test sides for a long time.

The current culture is such that winning is an after thought. It's all about cementing a spot in the lineup that's first and foremost amongst our players.

Less than 3 runs per over. 2.94 to be precise.

And the star performer was Che Pujara who knows how to occupy the crease and grind out runs. Yet some Pakistan fans would label him timid or defensive if he played for us.

Currently Pakistan is the worst test team in Asia...SL is 2nd best team, BAN 3rd and PAK 4th

You can carry someone like Pujara when the remaining batsmen bat at a reasonable strike rate which reduces the pressure on him. Pakistan unfortunately have too many Azhar Ali type players

To be honest, Pakistan's bowling was completely below par, batting was expected to be poor but the bowlers are massively over rated and failed the team during crucial moments.

Sadly, our best Test batsman of recent times Azhar has wilted away and Shafiq is crap. We currently have one of the weakest bowling lineup's in our history. We need to get used to being mediocre for now. But Pakistan being Pakistan, you never know what's round the corner and I guess that's what keeps the fans returning.

If Pak would have won the NZ series it would have been ranked 4 and I dont think this thread would have been made.

Team obviously has lost Misbah and Younus which makes a huge difference.

Srl was a minnow for some people here few months ago and look how everyone is hyping them now.

Pak will be fine in an year or two.

We need to find new captain and coach and need to get rid of TTF and start over again. I don't recognize anyone from the SL or WI team who recently won test series, all young guys trying to prove themselves without any mental scars. Our obsession with having seniors has been costing us matches for 12 years.

The bowlers weren't great either.

Pakistan's bowling unit has been one of the best for 18 months or so in tests. We have at eenager picking up wickets, guys like Abbas, Shah and co. Theb owling unit did well in SA and elsewhere.

People like you dont watch the game.

What we need is another genuine fast bowler who just runs in, hits the deck hard with some serious pace, none of these timid guys who come on and bowl 3 good outswingers to much applause from the slip cordon and watch the fourth get creamed for four. We need a genuine speedster to open with Shaheen.

Furthermore we need an attacking opener and a quick scorer in the middle overs (at least 80+ SR, someone who can keep the run rate at 3.5+ whenever he is at the crease). I know Fakhar is attacking but I'm not sure he reads the test match game as well as the white ball game. Two batsmen scoring at a quick rate around Babar and Haris and maybe Azhar would mean we can go at atleast 3 an over. The main reason our batting is horrid is because we keep on defending and playing it safe, then play ourselves into a ditch and collapse. We need some quick scorers to keep the score ticking. I get a feeling Sarfraz could play that role batting at 4 and rotate the strike like he did last night...

Pakistan's test team has gone backwards in the last couple of years.

Now, it is genuinely a no 6 or 7 team. Only Pakistanis believe their team is good. No team fears Pakistan.

Pakistani cricketers fear playing other teams - as we saw recently in SA where the team landed with a losing mindset - as evidenced by surrendering winning positions against a weak team.

I have serious FOMO looking at Sri Lanka and West Indies achieving what they did recently.

Mickey has run his course. Time for new thinking. Don't think Pakistan will be world beating based on the talent at its disposal - but it may seize more big moments.

Well said

Mentally weak players.

Low skill levels.

Strange tactics.

Weird selection policy.

This is Pakistan's Test team.

Misbah retired 2 years ago, give it a break. He's not involved with the national team in any way.

It's the legacy it's still there for some reason the selectors and coach can't drop non performing batsmen will Shafiq play another 70 tests at his current average before they realise he isn't performing.
Will Azhar keep plodding around wasting balls and not scoring big for another 5 years before they realise he's costing the team batting at no 3 will more batsmen be selected with strike rates in the 40s the team requires one or two batsmen with 60+ strike rates in the middle order.

There isn't much flexibility from Mickey aswell not playing 2/3 spinners in UAE always not knowing how to counter attack bowling on bouncy wickets by selecting the same type of batsmen in the top order.
The coach should be judged on results and they tell their own story.
