"Azharuddin is my favourite Indian player. I hope Pakistan beats India but he scores runs so his average isn't disturbed. :amla"

We are going to get reality check against top teams such as Australia, Eng. Pakistani fans doing bangra beating minnows such as India, SL. The pitch for final was sluggish. If Eng and Pak play 10 matches, Eng will win 9 times with Gooch averaging above 50. We were saved by rain and we were lucky that unfit Inzi played a blinder in SF

Think that was a year when we held the Cricket World Cup, Hockey World Cup and Squash World Open.

I'm sure our friend Bilal would have had Tendulkar name in the 90s instead of Kohli for such threads. :amla

Haha well spotted. How did you know Pakistanis had a soft spot for Azhar pre-fixing? He was a stylish bat. I liked him too back in the day :) But obviously, even back then, we all knew Tendulkar was the best. Dravid was the most underrated initially by Pakistanis

Adding to this, I should say, I always liked Dravid. Even at the beginning, when he was a nerdy guy who could only flick to mid-wicket and play a very straight straight drive! In the 90’s, Pakistanis always felt they would beat India in head-to-head games, but because that was peak Tendulkar and Ganguly time in ODI’s, they definitely felt that these two were the biggest threats for Pak in the 90’s battles.

Lots of Pakistanis liked Azharuddin though. Laxman wasn’t rated until second half of his career, as I remember.

Could be wrong but I think at one point in those years we also had snooker world champion Muhammad Yusuf (not the cricketer)
