What's new

Patience running out for Babar Azam

He looks like he's carrying the burden of the entire nation on his young shoulders.

Management need to get him to relax and just play without any added pressure.

Life is not as cut and dry as you hope it to be...You cannot go by last match stats only, many times in life you have to make a bet, you are not going to get ready made player at 22, there is a reason Pakistan fail to develop batsman, because many at top in Pakistan have same mentality like yours...Seniors should not get lee way rather they should show the way...Right now most of them are failing to do so, and fans are asking for emerging talent on the chopping block, this culture must end!!

Exactly. Whilst I understand the frustrations with Babar's recent form, it is worth remembering he his an incredibly young batsmen who has shown great promise.

We can't have it both ways- we complain when the selectors drop players after one bad series (which played a large part in creating a culture of fear in the team which encouraged selfish performances) but then we also call for a player to be dropped after a few failures.

Should stick with Babar- give him an extended run.

Has been found out. Has been appalling all tournament, plus his fielding has been a joke.

Still undercooked at international level. Haris is an immediate upgrade over him

Babar A. needs to pick himself. The body language has been very weak and lazy at times. There is no question over his ability but the casual attitude is not helping him

grant flower the spoiler

this is indeed what i pointed out in an earlier thread as well that the batting coach grant flower is actually spoiling the natural talent coming into the team. baber is one good example as when he was a rookie he was more fluent , aggressive and expressive, but as he came under the shadow of grant flower he has gradually led into the shell of defensive approach.

Babar is the first complete batsman we've seen come out of Pakistan for a generation. He'll come good soon enough in a big game, fans need to use some common sense rather than make hasty judgements on young players who are still early in their career.

This is Pakistanis, there's no common sense or thought. Like a bull in a china shop.

Yeah drop the highest ranked ODI batsman of Pak who is talented and young :))

He is a decent bat and will end up a very good batsman for Pakistan. Funny how just a few days back he had more talent and potential than Kohli and someone in this thread even comparing him to an ATG like Sachin. It seems to be only the extremes with a lot here.

champions trophy just tested who is better who is not, babar azam has been found out, it is a terrible news for some babar azam fans, but its the reality

has also misfield if i remember correctly in this same match

He also caught a great delivery for a wicket as a slip, so..

He's our best batsman but is out of form, I really wanted him to shine this champions trophy but he keeps getting out cheaply.

I wouldnt compare him to U.Akmal, he's already accomplished so much more than him. The team really needs to figure out what he's doing wrong and remedy it asap. They'll need a good knock from him against England.

But we most definitely need to continue giving him a long leash to grow as a player. He's our best bat and is very young, the ideal type of player Pak needs to invest in more.

That is the reason Pak not producing batting talents ... need to give more time for talents like Babar to bloom. Kohli was also struggling in his first AUS tour, Dhoni and management trusted his talent and extended his inclusion. Kohli scored century in the test, even though Ind lost the series ... Got a world class batsman in return :kohli

He needs to stop being chicken hearted that's all. Too edgy and tentative on the crease

srh R u kidding. Tendulkar by 22 was literally the pillar of Indian batting. Take him n game was over. Tendo carried a billion dreams with aplomb

Totally agree - looks too tentative.

But there is no way in hell we can drop Babar now.

He needs to be backed because he's still better than the rest of the batsman we have now. He's one of the most dynamic batsman Pakistan has produced in the last 5 years.

One more example is KL Rahul .. he too failed in first test in AUS tour, got duck or something in both innings. Ind still played him next test as opener, he scored century and rest is history :)

Yeah that same Haris who has 1 List A hundred is an immediate upgrade. Idiotic thread.

Shot selection has been poor.

The two times he got out was on balls that could have been easily put away.

He NEEDS to be persisted with no matter what.

Seems lost whenever i see him. Doesn't seems interested in playing. In last match a commentator pointed out when he was fielding in slip he was standing with his hands in his pockets. i mean what kind of attitude is that?? that shows how lazy he is!!! we need characters who are full of josh. how the hell he played that shot vs sri lanka. wasn't he knowing there is a fielder . what i can make up is that he has a very careless attitude and that won't help him. after-all he is from akmal family.. i fear if he doesn't changes his attitude towards his game he will also become like his other brothers.. I wish mickey could help him .. these foreign coaches can help you change your mentality. i think more than a coach pakistan needs a psychiatrist. most of them are mentally very weak.

If ever there was an ideal get-back-into-form opportunity, it was yesterday. Babar had plenty of time, many many overs, small target, a flat deck, mostly non threatening bowling and a sloppy fielding to boot. He showed complete lack of application and intent, which I found to be appalling. He could have used the opportunity to fight back into form, but instead he threw it away. Guess brain-fade is a family problem!

More than brain fade, he's mentally pretty weak. Resorts to tuktuk despite the fact that he has in his veins to play at a better pace. He lost us 2 games against Australia while resorting to tuktuks when the targets were well above 300!

His test performances (or lack thereof) also prove that he is mentally fragile, something which is not a promising sign for up and coming youngster

It's not lack of form, it's just fear of failure that is his impediment in playing up to his potential. He knows the hype surrounded with his name and fear of not keeping up with that hype in last 4/5 matches is making him go back in his shell. He wants to score another soft century so that the hype remains justified, that's why he plays a lot of dots in start and then plays a rash shot to get out.

He definitely has the talent. Just needs some mentoring to get him mentally strong.

Hes only played 25 games. Too early to call any trend. He may be great, he may not. Time will tell. But anyone with a 50+ ODI average is worth persisting with.

You have to give players chances, time, hes young he will develop he already has an impressive start number 8 in the ODI rankings

He keeps getting out to very stupid shots. Only one man standing there and he puts the ball right in his lap. The lad needs some good coaching together with a severe telling off otherwise we're looking at another Umar Akmal.

Did people seriously think Babar will not go through a lean patch? This is an expected learning curve every young batsman goes through when the novelty wears off and teams start to home in on their weaknesses. Fortunately for Pakistan fans, Babar is very technically sound and there aren't many areas you can target. All he lacks is experience and a minor adjustment to his backlift.

He needs to have intent though. I expected better from him because he's a fearless batsman yet he's started batting like Azhar/Hafeez. I understand that he's going through a lean patch but he looks disinterested in general (like all of our other players).

Ridiculous thread. Babar just scored a match winning 125* 3 ODIs ago and some on here are losing their patience?

He's going to come good vs Eng.

These are "fans" who watch ICC events and that's about it.

Just gotta be patient with him. He's shouldering a lot of responsibility at such a young age so early in his career. He's doing so admirably. The transition would be a lot easier if he was batting in a strong lineup with world class seniors to guide him. The best he has is Malik. The selfish Hafeez on the other hand has a cancerous effect and makes things more difficult. Losing Sharjeel whom he was starting to form a partnership didn't help either.

Babar needs reliable partners around him to take some load off of him. It's imperative Haris joins him immediately and Sharjeel has to come back.

Yeah. I agree with you on that and that's exactly the reason why I mentioned Hafeez also in my post. I'm also getting sick and tired of seeing Hafeez.

I'm not sure if you caught this but Sky Sports were playing a package few days ago (I think we were playing South Africa) and Hafeez was talking so much crap in that. Said things like there's no bigger honour for him than wearing Pakistan's jersey and after receiving unconditional love from the fans, he feels like he's a hero. Guy is clearly delusional and living in a fantasy world.

This just goes on to show how pathetic his mentality is and I'm afraid it's going to be passed on to the younger ones also. Can't wait for him to go.

Back to the topic, I'm hoping Fakhar can be a good partner for Babar just like Sharjeel was. Not sure what I should be expecting tomorrow though, probably would be a wiser idea to have the expectations realistic and low.

he is your best batsman you can't drop him both of his dismissals against india and srilanka were soft dismissals. He will come good just be patient with him.He is less of the problem.Hoping for a big innings today from him.

this guy has become a serious liability in the team, drops the catch after performing zero with the bat.

going thru a lean patch but has a lot of potential much better than TTF brigade who would replace him.

Yes drop the only Pakistani batsman who is ranked among the top 10 ODI batsman in the world despite being just 22 and persist with the likes of Hafeez, Azhar, and Malik.

yes i hope we can do that when we are batting first or chasing 300.
