Six cricketers turn down full season domestic contracts: Reports

Lahore: Top Pakistan cricketers have refused to sign full season domestic contracts offered by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), reports suggested.

According to sources, these six cricketers are Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Bilawal Bhatti, Kamran Akmal, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir.

They are unhappy with the proposed contract policy and have decided not to sign until the PCB formulates a contract according to their demands.

PCB opted to make quick changes just before the National T20 Cup First XI opener and offered a one-month contract. These cricketers will only receive match fees and daily allowances while taking part in the ongoing event in Multan and Rawalpindi.

Under the contract, they are permitted to follow all policies of the board till October 20 and can decide their future after that. Left-arm pacer Amir signed a two-event contract and was the only player out of six who made himself available for the National T20 Cup and National One-day Cup.

It must be noted that last week PCB announced category based central contracts for 192 players for the ongoing 2020-21 domestic season.

Muhammad amir attitude is beyond pathetic 😡😡😡.This guy should be thanking his star he is allowed to make a comeback.

That is insane. If they don't sign the contracts, kick them out. Let some youngsters get the contract and actually play.

It is absolutely ridiculous to accommodate a player who is either too old to warrant selection and a player who despite the board bending over backwards to help can't be bothered to return the respect given.

And some people were saying that Hafeez is some sort of a Saint...
What is PCB waiting for?
They should kick them immediately.
Contract according to their demands?
What are their demands?
Are they havaing feeling some sort of entitlement?

Six Pakistan cricketers have refused to sign the full season domestic contract offered by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). These six cricketers include all-rounders Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Bilawal Bhatti, wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal and left-arm pacers Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir.

Reports state the aforementioned cricketers are not happy with the proposed contract policy and have decided to turn it down. The current contract is not acceptable to cricketers and unless the board drafts a contract which fulfils their demands, they will not sign it.

Among the six cricketers, Amir was the only player who made himself available for the National T20 Cup and National One-day Cup, hence signing a two-event contract.

Hearing that trouble is brewing, with many more players unhappy with the revised contracts offered by PCB.

This could get messy.

Oh God not Bilawal Bhatti what are we even going to do without him :))

They can all leave then. Hafeez, Malik, Kamran and Wahab have been around forever while Amir should be grateful after everything the board has done for him he's still playing.

As for Bhatti, he can be replaced by any gully mohalla bowler.

One thing I've learnt over the years is not to too easily blame the players.

I refer to this para in particular, so maybe there could be more to the story:

PCB opted to make quick changes just before the National T20 Cup First XI opener and offered a one-month contract. These cricketers will only receive match fees and daily allowances while taking part in the ongoing event in Multan and Rawalpindi.

Is it something to do with getting salary from departments as well as board? Also didnt Hafeez say that some young guy should have the contract instead ?

I am sure n that contract there are certain clauses on domestic participation, fitness, NOC for other T20s and diet ..... one issue could be smoking.

Not sure how PCB can handle it - these people have their brand established therefore playing or not playing with or in PAK isn’t a factor for them much now, while PCB can avoid selecting them (which is a minor loss for most of that list) but can’t stop them practicing in individual capacity; even might not be able to block them from using PCB facilities.

These players in essence are now revolting against the PM IK and his refusal to budge from reinstating dept cricket might have been the final straw

The Pakistan Cricket Board has given one-month contracts to senior national team players Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Amir, Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal after they refused to sign the annual full season domestic contract.

The one-month contracts have been handed out just before the start of the National T20 Championship so that the senior players could participate in the tournament being held in Multan and Rawalpindi.

According to a source close to the players, the senior pros were not happy with some of the clauses in the full domestic contract.

“The clauses restrict the right of the players to make independent decisions for the betterment of their career and their earning options,” the source said.

But the PCB later offered these players one-month contracts only for the National T20 Championship which they signed.

According to the one-month contract, these cricketers will only participate in the ongoing National T20 Cup, and will receive match fee and daily allowance during the tournament. They will also be required to follow the board’s media, anti-doping and anti-corruption policy during this phase. After October 20, they will be allowed to decide their next course of action. Meanwhile the PCB has issued strict media guidelines for all its contracted players and even domestic players will need the board’s permission before any interaction on conventional or social media.

“The new media guidelines state clearly that players can only interact with any media or social forum after obtaining the prior permission of the PCB’s Director of High Performance Centre, team manager or media manager,” the source said.

He said the guidelines also strictly prohibit the players from criticising ICC/PCB’s policies, its officials and sponsors, retired international cricketers and previous board management or run their own private Youtube channels.

They will also need PCB’s permission before appearing as a guest or expert on private television channels. A total of 192 players have been given domestic cricket contracts for the season in different categories.

Pakistan Cricket Board today confirmed 187 cricketers have accepted enhanced and improved 2020-21 domestic cricket contracts, which include monthly retainers, daily allowances and match fees, besides share in the event prize money.

In the 12-month domestic contracts, the monthly retainers range from PKR40,000 per month to PKR150,000 per month, depending on the player’s seniority, contribution to Pakistan cricket and performance in the previous season.

A further 32 players have accepted five-and-a-half months seasonal contracts, which will expire at the end of the Pakistan Cup One-Day Tournament, final event of the 2020-21 season. In such contracts, the players will receive daily allowances, match fees from the PCB as well as share from event prize money.

Players in this category will receive daily allowances, match fees and share in the event prize money.

Seventy cricketers are still available in the pool of additional players, who will be offered seasonal or event based contracts as and when they are selected by their respective head coaches for the upcoming matches.

I don't know what central Punjab's management has seen in Saad Nasim. He has no performance yet they gave him captaincy in t20s, then made him vice captain in Quaid-e-Azam trophy and now he got A category in contract from PCB.

Lucky guy :rahat1

Senior cricketers Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Aamir have received a pay boost after being denied central contracts by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The quartet has been informed that since they don’t have central contracts they will now receive match fees in the ‘A’ category which they were previously being paid in the ‘C’ category.

“The four had voiced their reservations to the board’s CEO, Wasim Khan that they are being treated unfairly that despite not being given central contracts they are not being paid match fees in the highest category reserved for seniors,” a well-informed source said.

“Previously after the central contracts were announced and they were not named in the list, they were paid fees for playing for the national team in the ‘C’ category which roughly came to around 202,000 rupees for a ODI and lesser for a T20 international.”

The source said that the four will now get match fees in the ‘A’ category which will be around 460,000 for ODIs and 330,000 for T20 international approximately per match.

The board, however, didn’t entertain another request from the players that they also be given some compensation for missing out on foreign T20 league contracts because of national duty.

“The board has said that it cannot give any compensation for this and the players have to give priority to national duty,” he added.

Hafeez recently suffered a loss of around 10 million rupees for having to pull out of the Sri Lankan premier league after he was named in the touring squad for New Zealand.

Although Hafeez only plays white-ball cricket like the other three with Malik only focussing on T20 format, the board also didn’t accept his request that he be allowed to join the team late in New Zealand.

“He was told that due to the quarantine and isolation requirements in New Zealand he has to go with the team or miss out if he wants to go and play in the Lanka premier league which starts from 17 November,” the source said.

Muhammad Aamir and Malik have currently gone to Sri Lanka for the Lanka Premier League as they were not named in the touring squad for New Zealand.

A total of 192 domestic players signed contracts before the start of the season, but it remains unclear if all of them have yet to be paid as only some cricketers spoke to Dawn on the condition of anonymity.
With the domestic season having passed the halfway mark, some cricketers are growing increasingly frustrated that they haven’t received their wages.

A PCB official confirmed that there had been a delay in the payment of players’ salaries, but made it clear that everyone will receive the wages they are owed this week.

How the hell do the PCB expect these guys to live. Awful by WK!
