The CT trophy win took the gloss of Misbah's retirement and now the World 11 series is now going to take the gloss of Misbah's tribute which will at best just be 3 minutes, Afridi and YK were wise to not attend, so much for Misbah carefully planning and crafting a selfish retirement.

I'm sure that cheap things like this do not affect Misbah because he ain't no attention seeker like the other two!

Ridiculous , there was no need for that, did not deserve that, had more than enough appreciation for whatever he did or did not do for Pakistan. Hope they will not recommend a national holiday on Misbah's retirement day or will not name Qazzafi stadium after him. Was a selfish player after all.

Ofcourse because unlike the other two Misbah will take whatever he can get

For what reason? Being no1 ranked for 2 weeks? :91:

Should be giving ceremony to Sarfraz.

The man has retired yet people are still whining about Misbah. Give it a rest guys.

Pretty strange that international cricketers are also invited and it makes even more strange when they speak in Urdu

He should give us a rest, why is he still in news, haven't he had enough "awards" already ? Why even a thread about him ?

Why turn up in this thread to spew your hatred and bitterness if you're tired about reading of him ?

Give it a rest, he's achieved more than you'll ever do in your life.

Losing so many matches from winnable positions. Yes definately much more than we will ever achieve in our lives. May we never achieve as much as Misbah in this regard

Yes, he achieved a lot for himself personally and hence prolonged his career at the cost of humiliation and defeat after defeat for the team, bravo.

Not losing a single Test series at "home", drawing away to England when everybody wrote us off, winning ODI series away to India in 2012/13, South Africa (first time ever for Asian team), 2012 Asia Cup, whitewashing England and Australia, winning in the Caribbean for the first time ever, beating Sri Lanka and New Zealand away, and taking us to #1 in Test rankings all must count for nothing then.

I criticise Waqar a lot as Slog will be the first to tell you but at least I acknowledge his hard work over the years and don't malign his integrity nor level personal abuse at him. He was a flawed captain and coach but never have I doubted his passion and love for the country. Yet you guys derail EVERY thread to attack Misbah's character when the guy has LONG retired and as if he's a Salman Butt-esque figure who scandalised the country.

Did he make mistakes ? Yes of course. But there's a difference between criticising one's mistakes and maligning their character which you do.

The fact you think Misbah would be bothered by Pakistan winning the CT as it'd "take away the spotlight from his retirement" just reflects your pathetic and embarassing mentality. He was proud as anyone, especially since he played, and still plays, with these guys. Funny how those guys don't have the same amount of vitriol against him as you do ?

Forget Indians or whoever else, Pakistanis are the worst when it comes to tearing down their own public figures. They're happy to take potshots from the sidelines at people who never disgraced their country while putting on a pedestal those who do while doing nothing for their country themselves.

This plus bringing a professional attitude to cricket within his teams. He might have been a flawed player in his own but thanks to him some other Pakistani players came into their own and learned how to work hard. He's not Sarfraz, he's not Imran, he's Misbah and the example he's passed along will go forward. I almost wish he would go into politics, he would be an amazing PM-quiet, steadfast, hard-working, and not willing to tolerate a lot of **.

Sarfraz didn't do anything outstanding as a player tbh.

It's not that I have problems with Sarfraz getting the award. I'm happy for him but I'm just livid that the clowns at PCB have totally ignored Azhar.

Azhar Ali should've been the Test player of the year and Outstanding player. If he had a few more tests this year he would be in the running for the ICC Test Player of the year award and here we have the PCB ignoring his existence.

Agreed. What must Azhar feel like

Its funny if this award was lets say in 2014 or 2015, I probably would have said Sarfaraz was the deserved winnner

But this year Azhar has been a beast in tests and more than that he even got his ODI game right now

Whereas Sarfaraz has had a fairly poor year with the bat and a decent one with the gloves but nothing to say he is Outstanding Player
What was the period under consideration?

Guess people working within the PCB have their favourites. :inzi

btw how many Spirit of Cricket awards has Misbah picked up

Also...It seems that this is a proper ceremony pulled off by PCB and has international presence

Afridi and Younis should have put aside their ego and attended

Yea it's not like it's a pointless retirement ceremony. It's an award ceremony that most/all Test-playing nations.

Most probably they didn't have a period under consideration.

Great from Babar Azam. Seems a good, down to earth guy with loads of talent. InshAllah, he'll go on to have a fantastic career for Pakistan and be mentioned in the same breath as the greats of the game.

Lol how is it Misbah's fault that he is in the news? If you are so agitated by it, then stop coming on the posts related to Misbah. :91:

spirit of cricket award should be remained in misbah's honor

he gets this useless award every 6 months

Yasir was crucial to our Test wins but Azhar was more consistent overall, should have gotten the Test POTY.

Hasan performed on the big stage and deserved the ODI award over Babar. IMO.

Esp since Azhar emerged with credit after NZ and OZ tours whereas Yasir literally got pummelled

Surprised that Azhar Ali did not get Test player of the year award:

last 12 months: 302* 205* 105 127 5 fifties Average 62.30

MMHS>>>at least we do somethng good..

Sethi is a media man - he knows these staff, no doubt in that. I keep telling that his appointment might be dubious, and his track record might be questionable in politics, but the guy is capable - best man to lead PCB in many, many years; probably since Arif Ali Khan Abbasi.

I think, Yasir is more than deserving winner & I am not surprised to see most posters being surprised here - this is because of watching cricket through Stat Guru.

I wrote it somewhere else in last 6 months - who is the best Test player for PAK & I was probably only to go for Yasir. The reason is simple - in last 12 months, PAK has won 6 Tests, if I am not wrong; 4 against WI, 2 against Poms - without going to CI, I can recall 10 wickets at Lord's, 7 at Oval, 10 at Dubai, 7 at Abu Dhabi, 9 at 1st Test in WI & probably 5 in 3rd Test - that's 48 wickets in 6 Tests, with 2 10fors & 5 5fors and, in those Tests, he bowed at an average 70+ overs/Test at 2.5 RR.

I have never seen Bradman batting, but he must have been something similar with bat in his era.

Can Someone Summarize the list of all the Award Winners (and Award Titles)???

see first post

or Saj Tweet

Good post, Azhar had one hell of a year but am not going to whinge about Yasir getting the nod. Fact is, when he has fired; we've won some big games. In the grand scheme the stats may not look too fancy but folk should look at how instrumental he has been in Tests that were won.

Good post though Pak didn't play England in last 12 months. But i guess they considered that series too.
Pak drew against Eng and won against WI away majorly thanks to Yasir. Match winning performances always ahead of stats.

But Yasir hasn't played against England in the last 12 months

I am sure that series is considered. Traditionally start of a Cricket season was counted from 1st May with the first week of County championship matches. I believe still they roundup annual ranking points from 1st May every year. These awards are given for the period of 1st May/June to next 1 year; otherwise Fakhar would have been awarded as an emerging player as well.
