PCB-BCB reach agreement on upcoming series

• Bangladesh to play two Tests, one ODI and three T20Is in Pakistan

Lahore, 14 January 2020:

The Chairman and Chief Executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board today reached consensus with the Bangladesh Cricket Board on the upcoming series, which will be part of the Future Tours Programme. The process was facilitated by the International Cricket Council Chairman Shashank Manohar in Dubai on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the revised arrangement, Bangladesh will play three T20Is in Lahore from 24-27 January.

They will return to Pakistan for the first ICC World Test Championship fixture, to be held from 7-11 February in Rawalpindi.

Post the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020, which concludes in Lahore on 22 March, Bangladesh will visit Pakistan again and will play an ODI in Karachi on 3 April and second ICC World Test Championship fixture from 5-9 April.

PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani said: “I am pleased that we have amicably achieved a resolution that is in the best interest of this great sport as well as both the proud cricket playing countries. I also want to thank ICC Chairman Shaskank Manohar for the leadership he provided and ensured the sport continues to grow and thrive in the two countries.”

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan, who also attended Tuesday’s meeting at the ICC headquarters, said: “It is a win-win outcome for both the boards. I am glad that the uncertainty around the series is now over and we can start planning for the smooth delivery of the matches. Bangladesh will visit Pakistan thrice, which should give them the comfort that Pakistan is as safe and secure as any other cricket playing country.

“The split series across three venues will also provide fans and followers to watch live in action their favourite players and support good cricket from either side.”

Tour schedule:

24 Jan – 1st T20I, Lahore
25 Jan – 2nd T20I, Lahore
27 Jan – 3rd T20I, Lahore
7-11 Feb – 1st Test, Rawalpindi
3 Apr – One-off ODI, Karachi
5-9 Apr – 2nd Test, Karachi

Beautiful stuff. So after all that time wasting from BCB, we managed to not only make them reverse on everything but we got an additional ODI added as well. Just fantastic!

Hats off to the PCB and credit where it is due.

Wish one of the t20Is was in rawalpindi tho.

Brilliantly played Mani and Wasim!

And of course thanks to Bangladesh as well.

What a disjointed schedule. Nevertheless brilliant negotiating from the PCB. It's coming home :broad

Wow - to be frank, this is shocking news!

Great job by Mani - I wonder how they incentivized BCB after all the statements in the last month

Hats off to Mani and Wasim for the negotiations. Very happy to find out it all worked out in the end.

And all those posters saying the PCB was lowering itself, begging, humiliating the country by being persistent etc... Wrong.

They removed emotion, stayed professional, didn't throw a tantrum at the hurdle but worked through it. Did whatever they could to bing the best outcome- in which the goal is the normalisation of international cricket being played in Pakistan.

This is actually really big step. Now you have teams coming 2 years in a row. Turned around one of the biggest doubters of visits. Great result for all cricket.

The split schedule looks complicated but I guess BCB/PCB have their reasons.

Now PCB needs to get to work on organising the logistics.

Congratulations to PCB and BCB

Good. Test matches are always welcome. Ab kaha gaya ki BCB is under the influence of the BCCI?

Wasim Khan and Ehsan Mani, brilliant stuff!!!!!!!

That's how you negotiate.

1 ODI is a bit random though lol.

Would rather have 5 t20's then 3 t20's and an ODI.

Especially in this T20 year.

Well done PCB. Credit where it's due.

And also a big slap on resident conspiracy theorists. :inti

There should be a rule that a Test series must consist of at least 3 Tests.

I love it when sane people set aside emotions, and work out things like adults, for the mutual benefit of everyone involved.

There was a lot of immature stuff being said, like "cancel the tour", "pull people from BPL", "how dare BD do this! Minnows!!!!". "BD doesn't deserve respect". Shameful comments.

For this outcome, both the boards had to give up a few things. BCB wanted to come later for Tests, after deciding how the T20s go. But, PCB was doubtful, as they thought BCB might not tour for Tests and will cite lame reasons.

This agreement seems to bind the BCB in writing that they will come for the Test tour. They can't back out and we got their commitment.

Win-win for everyone, if all goes smoothly.

although i am not happy with the shnanigans of the last few days, this is definitely a better outcome than previous one......

not happy with the 2 test thing too.... we need to push for atleast atleast atleast 3 test ....

a 5 test series with the Proteas or Eng in pakistan this year would be just wow .....

well done all parties. reall happy..Obvioulsy crazy schedule but obv its due to Bangladesh not wanting to stay longer than required and and in all cases they will be there less than a week which suits them. World championship points are at stake and will be practice before our england tour so all good :)

true... although i wanted to see our players coming back from the BBL after what the BCB did ( i hold my hand and say "stupid" of me )

but atleast things worked out for the better ....

sooo sooo sooo very true... this 2 test series is just sooo stupid

The FTP was agreed upon the previous board 2 years ago, and that was 2 tests. It was late to change it.. The new board is focusing more on test cricket. They have already said that our next home series against Australia will have 3 tests, compared to 2014 and 2018 where there was only 2.

I think with this schedule, both the boards largely got what they wanted... Maybe PCB a little bit more?

Bangladesh can still claim that they'll only be in Pakistan for a "short duration" during each leg - exactly what their government allowed.

PCB still gets 2 tests and an additional ODI.

So, I think its a win-win for both the sides.

Kudos to the PCB for handling this professionally.

It's a bit sad and frustrating that the test series is broken out into two legs. Takes away from the build and momentum from the first game to the next... but, oh well

true tht.... not sure who was calling these shots in previous board ... but again the conditions in which the board was dealing werent favorable

Well done PCB, Wasim Khan and MAni. Stayed professional and steadfast in their principled stance and got the desired outcome in the end.

This will pave the way for SA tour later this year and more home cricket for Pakistan.

Well done PCB for being persistent and getting job done.

With the test being in rawalpindi i hope the weather and light conditions are better than it was for the SL game.

This has been the best PCB move since it's creation.

Good to see professionals in the PCB handling issue very well.

Great signs for Pakistan cricket

Great news hope the series goes incident free and cricket is competitive. Look forward to the test and T20s. Not sure what is the need for a one off ODI. Time to market the series and bring in the crowds now.

Glad the drama is finally over and well done to PCB & thank you to BCB.

Strange tour - but you gotta do what you gotta do.

24th Jan to 27th Jan - 3 T20's in Lahore

Almost 2 weeks gap

7th Feb to 11th Feb- 1st Test in Rawalpindi

7.5 weeks gap for PSL from 20th Feb to 22nd March

3rd Apr- One of ODI in Karachi

5th Apr to 9th Apr-2nd Test in Karachi

Well done PCB and finally some sanity from BCB. This schedule is like one of those 70s/80s test series with a day of rest!

PS: BCCI is like one of those cartoonish villains, always lurking. Rest assured, they will keep on trying! :Yk

Shouldn't the 2nd test be in Rawalpindi due to bad light in Feb?

Well done PCB and also thankful to the BCB, that they have finally seen some sense.

Let's put this unnecessary drama behind us now and bash these minnows :yk

So all the efforts were to squeeze in one ODI in the schedule? :yk2

Glad that Pak will be able to show its hospitality to BD and pretty sure after that there wont be any issues for both teams touring each other.

Lol at all the bangla bashers and haters.
Bangladesh has done more for us than most other nations yet still our people calling them all sorts of things.
Shame on those Pakistani fans who belittle Bangladesh. We lost 3-0 to them convincingly last time we played them.

Glad to see something sensible!!
Thanks to Wasim Khan and Shaskank Manohar. Don't think Mani should be given credit. The guy is soft as baby. Why 1 ODI? Should have 3 ODI so Babar can get 1-2 hundreds.

Did someone check the forecast?

It'd be terrible after all that hardwork to have a rainy week in February and bad light stopping play

Pakistan FM Shah Mehmood Qureshi was also joking?

Pakistanis are mostly conspiracy theorists that is our national past time. That being said the relations of Pakistan and India are so bad you never know how low one can go to harm the other.

They played great cricket and won. Credit to them.

Our people bash Pakistani team more than any other. This is how it is.

Next time we are 21/3 after 11 overs; see PP's true feelings for Pakistani team :yk

I can’t agree with your sarcasm here, Hitman. I have no doubt that one of BCCI / Indian government’s key agendas is to marginalize Pakistan by all means possible. There is too much evidence to support this claim including direct statements by numerous government officials, commentators, behaviour at global forums and bodies to ignore.

BCB / Bangladesh government are overtly supportive of India and I am sure this conflict is not unconnected. But you are right, for the latter connection between BCCI and BD on this specific issue, I have no proof, just an assumption.

I assume that the reason BD did a uturn here is because ICC, who were present in the meeting, made it clear what consequences BD would have to face if they do not tour. Loss of WTC points and also lots of boards keeping a close eye on their dysfunctional behaviour and nonsensical statements.

Not happy with this, something has been negotiated behind this deal and it might have to do with Asia Cup hosting and Pakistan agreeing on stupid tours to Bangladesh even though its still uncertain that Bangladesh will tour again in April even if they come to Pakistan.

Rashid Latif was right Pcb does not have any interest in Pakistan they are same as bcb. Nazmul Hasan wouldve sent a team later with no strings attached if Pcb had an administrator who held his ground.

Disappointed by the compromise from PCB.

Good work from Shaskank as well, that is what you expect from governing bodies.

Wasim Khan what a legend :))

We thought it would either be the T20's or 1 Test in Pakistan. He goes ahead and gets both series with a random ODI added on.

Reminds me of that classical bollywood line:

"Malik, ab itna kharcha ho hi gaya hai tou aik chips bhi le lete hain?" :)) :))

It's good that some cricket is happening finally. I think, the plan is to do the pre-match practice in Bangladesh and stay in PAK only during match days, which isn't bad idea. Dhaka-Karachi/Lahore air distance is less than Brisbane/Melbourne- Perth or Mohali-Chennai or Kingston-Port of Spain, so why not.

Hopefully the tour will be uninterrupted and smooth. If they were playing one ODI, then probably better idea was to play 3rd Test, may be now splitting the tour by four:(

Hard to believe there was no arm twisting by ICC here. Perhaps threatened them of losing points if they don't visit?

Congratulations on a possible great series. No need to be bitter about past.

Few posters here are very close to getting bans. Think VERY Carefully before your next poor quality post

Very professional from PCB!
They kept their stance and pulled it off, leaving all emotions behind. Great leadership.

Goes on to show that a neutral ICC can do wonders.

Absolutely full credit to Mani and Wasim Khan in how they have handled this whole episode. Unlike the other side, they have come out of this with enhanced credibility and dignity.

Apologies for interrupting all the bhangra, fireworks and cartwheels, but I am not sure why people are congratulating PCB.

The scheduling is a complete farce. They are going to play two tests over 3 months which is ridiculous.

The April leg of the so-called tour is pointless.

It appears that they are going to “test” the security situation in the first Test in February and then make PCB sweat again over whether they will come back for the April Test or not.

It is a complete joke. PCB have been humiliated with this insulting arrangement.

BCB wanted to achieve what they wanted, i.e. to make PCB beg. As far as Mani and Wasim are concerned, well if you beg long and hard enough you will end up with a bone to chew on.

If they think they deserve pats on the back for agreeing to this joke of a schedule, they thought wrong.

The fact that people are jumping in glee also sums it up. We have become so desperate that we will allow others to spit in our face as long as we get to host matches.

I feel embarrassed today.

Well February should be OK if it's the regular pattern. According to Accuweather the weather from Feb 7-11 is clear but forecasts for more than 15 days can be inaccurate.

But I must say I am a bit worried. The weather has been extremely murky of late in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The sun has hardly shown, if it's not rain it's fog.

Nice sentiment, MMHS. Let’s hope for some good cricket now!

PCB has to hear out concerns of other teams. It can't just force things like you are suggesting. There is no loss for PCB or BCB here. It's good for these both countries that they start playing each other and improve their relationships with each others.

cricketjoshila missing from a positive Pakistan thread. SHOCKER!!!

Chill out. Don’t worry so much about ‘losing face’. Grown ups sometimes need to control their emotions and behave diplomatically to achieve their aims. Our aim was not to prove to Bangladesh how strong our pride is but to get a full tour, especially tests, back to Pakistan. So it was right for the PCB to control their sense of indignation and chalk out a negotiated deal. Any other response would have been irrational and counterproductive. So spare us your shame... you must feel it on a regular basis anyway.

Just a brotherly advice, be happy with even the tiniest things in life. It goes a long way.

Trust Mamoon to always come up with a different narrative. :yk

One thing which I wish had happened was if the T20s happened in the 2nd leg of the trip. This would have given Misbah more options post-PSL. Anyway, just glad that the tour is happening

I guess given the time remaining in the window before PSL and all the necessary arrangements required for hosting BD and for PSL it is fine. If the tour would have been finalized earlier than I think scheduling could have been done accordingly.

I think its good that complete tour is taking place irrespective of two legs. Things will obviously start to become normal with time with more cricketing events happening.

Mamoon i am a passionate follower of Pakistan cricket and i love to read your review's. But sometimes your thinking sucks. It's good to be a positive critic. There is no need to find negativity in each and everything you come across.

People's give credit to mani & Wasim but real man is Shashank Manohar who mediated to break the deadlock
