KARACHI: After successfully hosting Sri Lanka for a T20 International, the PCB is targeting home series against South Africa and Bangladesh next year, said chairman Najam Sethi.

Sethi said realistically after the decision by Sri Lanka to come and play a T20 match in Lahore last Sunday, he felt that South Africa or Bangladesh could be convinced to come and play in the country.

"It is a gradual process to get international cricket back to Pakistan. The tour by the Sri Lankans even for that one match has been a big success for us. But we need to now keep pushing this process forward," he said.

Sethi said he would be talking to the South African and Bangladesh boards to come to Pakistan sometime in 2018 to play a short bilateral series.

"We have Ireland and Afghanistan, who are ready to come over. But we also want South Africa or Bangladesh in Pakistan next year," said Sethi.

Sethi said that the biggest challenge now for the PCB was to hold matches at other venues apart from Lahore. Pakistan on Sunday hosted Sri Lanka eight years and seven months after their team bus was attacked in Lahore by militants.

In September, Pakistan also hosted the World XI backed by the ICC for three T20 internationals in Lahore and the security arrangements were praised by all.

Asked if he felt that Australia and New Zealand who play against Pakistan in the UAE next winter could be convinced to come and play a game or two in Pakistan like Sri Lanka did, Sethi said realistically he thought South Africa and Bangladesh need to be convinced
.
Sethi also said that he would like to see the final of the third PSL held in Karachi next March with the play-off matches in Lahore.

On the organisation of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Emerging Nations Cup to be held in Pakistan next April, Sethi said he would like to see India send their team.

"We will guarantee them the best security but even if they don't agree to send their team the tournament will be held at different venues in Pakistan," he said.

South Africa series would be amazing! But I can bet my house AB Devilliers will not tour

He may be convinced to come by him teammates.

He is very close with Faf so maybe faf can convince him

The guy is practically worshipped in India. Hes the equivalent of Ronaldo in cricket the way Kohli is Messi. Touring Pakistan may damage the AB brand in India. Although this is wildly my own assumption and you can be right. However, I just feel the guy is too much of a primadona and full of himself these days that he could care less about the sentiments of Pakistani fans

bangladesh tour will be awsome and step forward for both boards to sttle the tussle.

I agree with your assumption, it was not a concidence that couple of IPL playing Srilankan players refused to visit, it was not just about security and it will never be just about security- Yes we need to put our house in order and continue improving on security but the mighty $ will always play a part in this process

He will most probably retire before that. If he doesn't then he will play. Till now I see him playing only those six tests coming up at home vs India and Australia.

Either way, AB has scored mountains of runs in UAE against Pakistan. So from Pakistan's fans point of view its better if he calls its off before touring UAE again.

Since I am nowhere near the PCB management team all I can hope for is that they know what they are doing and not rushing into taking a huge bite which they later can't chew. In that sense every step forward is great news.

BD will not come, to many bridges burnt and their PM hates us anyway.

SA i can only imagine coming for a t20, thought at least one ODI would be a major coup

THe issue that with the current security arrangments I dont think a full tour or series is economically viable

not to mention all the emergency services who could be else where at that time

I'm happy that they aren't rushing things. One step at a time. First was the ZIM series in 2015. Then PSL Final and the World XI earlier this year. Next the SL T20I. Now a full T20I series in Pakistan vs. WI. The 3 year goal should be to have all T20Is played in Pakistan with ODIs within 5 years. The stands will be full because supply is so limited.

Pakistan is still in economic distress so it's best not to rush things too much.

What happened to the WI series that was supposed to happen in Nov?

The height of hypocrisy. What IPL/Indians have to do with ABD not touring Pakistan? ABD not touring Pakistan is just an assumption but blame game already started

Just like Bangladesh have been against South Africa recently. Being really put in their place!

I never claimed we were great. We knew we'd lose to the Saffers, you talked up your odds to beating Lanka 2-0 in Tests. Actually, they spanked you. :)))

but not in llimited games, and they narrowly won not by huge margins or by one innings..

expecting announcement anytime in the next few months :)

That is dissaponting if it means it is no longer on.

I love the beautiful stadiums in the UAE, but after watching the last T20 against SLN in lahore, the kind of atmosphere, the crowd was going wild, I realized there is indeed nothing like a team playing at its real home.

SA,maybe. BD won't tour there anytime soon, not at least in next 11 years. If Pak wants to convince bd to tour Pak then they should invite them in uae first.

Why - it's not an issue of ego!!!!!! Your comment suggests that we didn't tour PAK for other than security issues. If other team starts visiting and the tour is cleared by security experts, there is absolutely no reason not to visit PAK. On top of that, paying those Emirates for hosting a cricket match on those wickets is the most disgusting staff you can imagine.

SK being a seasoned diplomat played his cards wrong - there was not need to cancel BD tour, because easily PAK could have hosted us in March/April at home for the return series, after W XI, SRL & WI (?) trip . Now I feel politicians will get into this for vested interest.

It's great that teams are touring Pakistan. But instead of having t20s , let's have a couple of ODIs in Pakistan.

Both. What you've said is right and also what I said. I am not against pak tour,I was just describing the practical scenarios. And I was also showing the path by which pcb can convince bcb or awami govt.

very excited for SA if they agree as for BD i don,t they will tour pak anytime soon we should focus on other teams

Should not try for the whole tour just 1 or 2 T20s just like SL did. This has to be decade long process with a larger part of the tour being held in Pakistan each season. Asking any team to stay in the security conditions that SL did for 1-2 months is not feasible this will more likely to get the whole tour rejected.
