"This man in front of you, David Parsons, has come from England to set our high-performance system"

"The ECB has the best high-performance system in place - He (Parsons) will not impose the English system on us instead he will assess our system, our coach assessment system, and he will provide recommendations to improve all of those things"

Good Thinking

Parson's credentials are pretty solid so good things to come out of this for NCA.

He's been brought in to check up on what some of the freeloaders at the NCA are doing.

Some background on David Parsons can be gleaned from below release

England Cricket’s Performance Director, David Parsons, will leave the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in July.

Parsons, who first joined the ECB in 2000 as National Coach, was promoted to National Spin Bowling Coach in 2005, before taking on the role of ECB Performance Director in 2007. Since then, he has overseen the development of the England men’s pathways, including the running of the National Performance Centre at Loughborough University.

He has worked closely with players, coaches, selectors, practitioners and administrators during his tenure and was instrumental in the development and implementation of all England cricket’s elite programmes.

Commenting on the decision, Ashley Giles, ECB’s Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket, said:

“David has played a significant role in developing elite players and coaches across the pathways, and we are indebted to him for his outstanding contribution to England cricket.

“He has ensured we have the foundations in place to identify, develop and prepare the next generation of players, which will help us achieve our objectives of ensuring we are producing cricketers equipped for the rigours of the international arena.

“I would like to wish David well in his next venture. His knowledge and expertise across elite sport will match his ambition during the next chapter of his career.”

David Parsons, said:

“I have had 19 memorable years at the ECB, and am truly honoured to have had the opportunity to play such a pivotal role in the development of the National Performance Centre and the transformational change of the England pathways.

“During that time, the England teams have made significant progress and I take great satisfaction in knowing that the coaching programmes we have put in place have made a contribution to the development of such a great crop of talented and world-class players.

“The building blocks are in place to ensure England cricket continues to prosper at the highest level. The next few years should bear fruit.

“I would like to thank everyone I have had the absolute privilege of working alongside over the course of my time at the ECB and wish the players, coaches and wider ECB staff all the best for the future.”

Good stuff. Now only if we could get such good talent to be our coach as well.

I'm guessing Wasim Khan knew of Parsons and brought him in to what could be a crucial role.

It's odd to see PCB finally stepping into the 21st century.

Feels kinda odd to actually have some hope for the future of Pakistan cricket.

I wonder what his remuneration is going to be. Has to be pretty sizeable

I don’t care how much they are paying him as long as he does his job.

Why is it our culture we are first too point out how much someone is earning ?

Its a cultural thing - very normal for people to ask you how much you earn or how much did your house cost you to buy etc.

Indeed, but the PCB is one of the few institutions in our country that make a good profit, so these things should be of little concern.

They will be reported in some audit report etc for sure - we should be more concerned about quality of personnel.

Good to see.

"For the last 12 years, I've been performance director for the ECB. I was based at the National Cricket Performance Centre at the Loughborough University. My role was to oversee the player pathway and develop players for the senior England team"

"I looked after player identification, county talent pathway, international programmes, delivery of sports science and medicine support at the National Cricket Performance Centre at the Loughborough University"

"Wasim Khan invited me to come to Lahore and have a look at the high performance system that exists in Pakistan cricket. With the domestic restructuring, having a real pipeline of talent coming through the system feeding domestic cricket and the international team is really important if Pakistan cricket is going to be sustainably and consistently successful"

"I'm here to look at the system to see what framework exists for developing talent, to see how players are identified, to look at the development programmes, the competition structures and to look at the coaching and the people that are involved in the development of the most talented cricketers in Pakistan"

"This is my first time in Lahore and the first time in Pakistan, I've been in the region before but not in Pakistan. I've been made to feel welcome, it's a wonderful environment in Lahore. The restaurants I've visited and the hotel I'm staying in and being here at the Gaddafi Stadium has been fantastic. I look forward to coming back in future"

So when will he be making his recommendations?

Isn't he doing and being paid a lot of money for what Mudassar Nazar should be doing?

If we agree that the English high performance center is superior to our own then the idea would be to utilize Parson’s experience and have him help introduce some best practices into our system. Presumably Mudassar would be involved with putting them in practice

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced today that it has appointed Mo Bobat as Performance Director for Men’s Cricket.

Bobat has been promoted from the role of Player Identification Lead and will take charge from David Parsons, who left the post in July.

The role is positioned closer to England men’s international teams, working with Men’s Head Coach Chris Silverwood and National Selector Ed Smith to support the delivery of performance plans and selection strategy.

Commenting on the appointment of Bobat, Managing Director of England’s Men’s Cricket Ashley Giles, said:

“The position of Performance Director is a critical post in the development of our long-term strategy for elite performance. Mo demonstrated through his knowledge and experience that he has the attributes to take us forward in this area.

“He will be responsible for identifying our highest potential players and leading programmes that will bridge the gap between county and international cricket helping us to deliver successful, respected and inspiring England players and teams.

“The Performance Director will work closely with our network of counties to enhance the size and quality of our talent pool and ensuring that we’re jointly making decisions in each player’s best long-term interests.

“We have to develop a long-term strategy that identifies the best players in the country that can step up and excel in the international cricket arena. We will expose them to learn and perform in all conditions around the world.”

Speaking about his appointment, Bobat, added:

“I am delighted and honoured to be appointed Performance Director, at what is an exciting time for English cricket.

“I am looking forward to working closely with both Chris Silverwood and Ed Smith, and in doing so, supporting the performance needs of our England teams and moving us closer to achieving our aim of being the most respected team in the world.

“Developing strong relationships with our counties to enhance the size and quality of our talent pool will be paramount. I aim to ensure that our highest potential players receive individualised support and international-specific experiences.

“It is a hugely exciting role and the vision is that the strength of our counties and our high-performance system delivers deliberate and sustained success across all formats.”

Bobat, 36, has studied sports science and management and is also in the process of completing a Masters in sporting directorship. Prior to joining the ECB in 2011, Bobat worked as a lecturer and teacher in Leicester, augmenting his experience as a Level 4 certified cricket coach.

Since being promoted in 2016 as England men’s Player Identification Lead, he has formulated the structure and processes underpinning the identification of prospective England players and has developed a strong connection to England team selection.

I could be wrong, but don't think this relentless top down approach will help resolve issues.

Every time when faced with poor results, the knee-jerk reactions revolve around, committees, new management, coaching changes, reviewing the academies etc.

Parsons is a legend in English cricketing circles, but he works in a completely different world! He is grammar school educated and worked in the thoroughly professional environment of the ECB. They have tie ups with multiple universities that nurture future prospects like Loughborough, Cambridge, Durham etc... Most of these prospects get sports scholarships, progress in county and are well prepared when they step into the International stage.

The English players know their diet, have the discipline, maintain their fitness, understand the vagaries of social media even before national duties commence. The English performance centres like Loughborough are dealing with a completely different kettle of fish vis a vis the Pakistani prospects PCB have.

I think the challenges are very very different.

Nothing will work if the selection procedure is based on favoritism and the coaches don't have any qualification and skill to train players.

Most likely this man David Parsons will get hired as a Consultant - High Performance Cricket System Development. This would be a good signing.

How much would he be played

shamaan My brother, TBH it does not really matter how much he will get paid. As long as he helps pakistan then its absolutely fine. Also Wasim khan is not stupid to offer alot to him.

PCB investment in NCA was to pay someone to change the name to NHPC.

Nope. The guy was bought in to evaluate the NCA and to see how better to link the NCA with domestic cricket and the needs of Pakistan Cricket. The PCB does not have BCCI kind of money to flawlessly set up the NHPC in all the major and rural cities of Pakistan.

I was right about this, there is nothing being done at NHPC apart name change. The batting and bowling coach of NHPC is with Pakistan team. Even Saqlain Mushtaq was part of NHPC, now a head coach of Pakistan.

ZERO progress. There were far more activities under Mudassar Nazar at NCA, all the fast bowlers in white ball cricket were produced because of him.

Ramiz Raja is to blame here. He has apparently let go off most of the NHPC staff hired under Mani, Wasim Khan under the name of cost cutting and has not even bothered to hire replacements for Saqlain and Yousaf.

People working in the PCB are very happy at reports about him being replaced. They are sick and tired off his arrogant, I know best, it's my call and my decision, my way or the high way approach.

Ramiz went on a firing spree soon after becoming Chairman by sacking the NHPC coaches, and never hired replacements.

We must be the only cricket nation without coaches at its Academy.
