Pcb medical panel is inept.

They have destroyed careers of Junaid Khan and Umar Gul.

They are diploma holders simple graduates.

None of them has got a masters or fellowship in sports sciences or sports medicine.

This is a dilemma.

Mostly they fail to diagnose a players injury correctly and go running after consultants in the country.

Recently they also misjudged Imad wasim's injury.

They have wasted Haris Sohail's 6 months in wrong treatment and his knee has deteriorated.

Had Haris been a fast bowler I would have surely said that his career is over.

Neither PCB'S medical panel was diagnosed injuries properly nor they can treat properly and they also don't know how to rehabilitate injuries.

Also I want to remind people about the case of Mohammad Irfan. Irfan had not recovered fully and he was cleared by PCB medical panel to play domestic cricket. He played a game or two and his fracture worsened and he was ruled out for further 5 months. Due to this when irfan should have made a comeback after 3 months he made a comeback after almost an year and in the time being irfan lost his pace and slowed down.

With Junaid's injury this panel again diagnosed falsely and asked him to do 2weeks rest followed by 3weeks of rehab exercises. After 3 weeks of rehab Junaid was reassessed and he had double fluid in his knees than before.

Umar Gul's and Junaid's knee injuries recovery was not satisfactory and they did not recover fully. Due to which when they made comeback they weren't fit enough and lost considerable pace and efficacy.

Whereas Stuart broad had a knee surgery last year and he came back with the same speed and efficacy as before.

This sports panel was also clueless in Sohaib maqsood's wrist fracture and before he fully recovered they cleated him and he felt the pain in his first domestic game and than again underwent new rehab and got fit later.

We needs specialists and consultants. Medical panel is very very important and sportsman do get injured so there should be professionals to manage them.

Just in last 2 years there have been 6 cases of mismanagement. It's too much. You can't play with carter's of sportsmen this way.

It's high time to dismantle this inept under qualified inefficient medical panel and hire a new medical panel with its head having requirement to have a fellowship in sports medicine. Nothing less.

Anybody please email this to kerta dharta of PCB.

I agree. All these injuries have been massive blows and mostly its not the players fault that they dont get fit in time or arent as effective

Sports medicine is a highly specialized field and their is a special training to become one here in USA and also in other countries. Is really dangerous to let the untrained people manage injuries of Pakistani cricketers, it's criminal.

If this is a special field then you would think PCB would obviously know about this. They are to blame for not hiring the proper qualified people for this post. Do we not have high quality people that specialize in this field in pakistan ?

Most of the top notch specialist in USA, particularly who are in medical panel of the professional teams like football teams are orthopedic surgeons with fellowship in sports medicine. They also have cardiologists with special training in sports medicine in their panel. In Pakistan, there are some very good orthopedic surgeons but not sure if any of them is trained in sports medicine. Even without training in sports medicine a properly qualified orthopedic surgeon from USA or even UK could be a very useful in managing these injuries and saving the careers of many cricketers.

But , as in other departments "********" culture is the problem. Many doctors get into the "medical board" of Goverment departments without being properly qualified for the job, probably is also the case in PCB.

I know a physician in Pakistan who was sent to USA by a large government,s sports related department ( not PCB ) about 5-6 years ago for special training in sports medicine in USA. He did not have even a basic qualification to receive sports medicine training and don,t know what kind of training he got in USA in just one year, without going through residency and fellowship in USA but he is now a top expert in sports medicine in his department. He was close to some PPP ( ruling party at that I've ) heavy weights. " at that time.

Good thread. Not only their performance but we need to identify them and what their credentials are. There is no transparency whatsoever on how injured athletes rehabilitate and the time scale of their return.

Can TalentSpotterPk provide us with proof regarding accusations he has made with regards to the qualifications of the medical panel?

You know there is a department of physical medicine and sports rehabilitation department in COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS PAKISTAN? It can be used by the PCB but this is PCB my friend....

Why don't they use their service? Well,I have no idea...

Finally someone brings this up. The medical staff doesn't seem to know what they are doing and this gets surprisingly little discussion.

Rehabilitation medicine is a very important part of sports medicine but it's only a part. When you're dealing with career of international players, you (PCB ) needs a properly trained medical board including a trained orthopedic surgeon, a radiologist , preferably who has special knowledge of diagnosis sports related injury by MRI and a physical rehabilitation specialist. I know personally some excellent doctors in these specialty practicing in Lahore but doubt PCB gets their expertise . Unqualified ******** physicians are managing national players, hence the result.

According to reports, Doctor Sohail Saleem has been promoted to Director from Senior GM.

Rumman Raees
Zafar Gohar
Haris Sohail

3 of many players whose treatment has been messed up by the PCB medics.

0.0 accountability for PCB medics' performances.

Players have had to go abroad for treatment and advice which the PCB medics in Pakistan should have been doing.

Pakistan has to many outstanding doctors, some of them world class and they can't hire someone competent?

Hasan Ali's injury is a matter of concern.

What is being done to fix him? Is this turning out to be another mess? Was supposed to be a minor back injury so what is the issue there?

PCB medical staff found wanting once again it seems with no clear bulletins on Hasan Ali.

Chances are he will also go abroad and get himself treated.

I wonder if there is a justified reason why Shoaib Akhtar during his playing days preferred his own personal trainers and his doctors, physios to the PCB appointed ones because frankly speaking going to the PCB appointed officials is like gambling with your career.

I wonder if there is a national medical watchdog in Pakistan, someone should file an official complaint to them against these doctors on the PCB payroll

Watch Haris Rauf now

He could be carrying an injury - will PCB take care of him properly?
