Lahore-August 30, 2018: The national selection committee headed by Inzamam ul Haq after consultations with Captain and the Head coach has announced 18 players for the camp for Asia Cup. The camp will take place from September 3 to September 10, 2018 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The players will undergo fitness tests on September 3, 2018.

1. Fakhar Zaman
2. Imam ul Haq
3. Shan Masood
4. Muhammad Hafeez
5. Babar Azam
6. Shoaib Malik
7. Asif Ali
8. Haris Sohail
9. Sarfraz Ahmed
10. Shadab Khan
11. Muhammad Nawaz
12. Imad Wasim
13. Hassan Ali
14. Usman khan Shanwari
15. Muhammed Amir
16. Junaid Khan
17. Shaheen Shah Afridi
18. Faheem Ashraf

these are 18 players named for training cup not the actual squad I think from the 18 they would select 15 correct in the actual squad

Good selections other than Hafeez and Shan. There are so many more deserving players than them two!

Shan masood selection in 18 just continues to show that corrupt/nepotism selection will remain in pakistani cricket.

Finally!!

Really hoping Hafeez isn't selected in the 15.
Shaheen/Junaid and Imad/Nawaz is pretty much a scratch. Don't expect that to make much of a difference

Shan Masood has the most prolific List A record of any Pakistani batsman in history. The fact that he's been selected in the test team in the past is a reflection on our incompetent selectors.

I'd take Masood over the jaali professor Hafeez any say

Pretty good squad, hope Hafeez, Nawaz & Junaid misses out. Shan has done enough in List A to warrant a place in 15 men squad.

So the 15 man squad will probably be as follows:

  1. Fakhar Zaman
  2. Imam-ul-Haq
  3. Babar Azam
  4. Shoaib Malik
  5. Sarfraz Ahmed (wk)(c)
  6. Asif Ali
  7. Shadab Khan
  8. Faheem Ashraf
  9. Hasan Ali
  10. Muhammad Amir
  11. Usman Khan Shinwari

  12. Haris Sohail
  13. Mohammad Hafeez / Shan Masood
  14. Muhammad Nawaz / Imad Wasim
  15. Junaid Khan / Shaheen Shah Afridi

if you look shan's list A stats, his selection is justified but still the strike rate is too low by modern standards. Imam is far better than masood but i'd prefer haris over both of them.

So the 15 man squad will probably be as follows:

  1. Fakhar Zaman
  2. Imam-ul-Haq
  3. Babar Azam
  4. Shoaib Malik
  5. Sarfraz Ahmed (wk)(c)
  6. Asif Ali
  7. Shadab Khan
  8. Faheem Ashraf
  9. Hasan Ali
  10. Muhammad Amir
  11. Usman Khan Shinwari

  12. Haris Sohail
  13. Mohammad Hafeez / Shan Masood
  14. Muhammad Nawaz / Imad Wasim
  15. Junaid Khan / Shaheen Shah Afridi

This! And i don't think there is a need to change the playing xi from zimbabwe series. This xi looks perfect.

Who cares about List A stats - anyone who has seen masood bat knows hes not good enough to score runs at international level.

But then again his dad continues to pull strings for his selection.

Why Hafeez, Nawaz and even Shan are in the probable? Inzamam is just like a pre-designed robot.

Shan masood selection in 18 just continues to show that corrupt/nepotism selection will remain in pakistani cricket.

Notwithstanding the fact he was dropped multiple times and had the advantage of opening on flat wickets etc, he was the top run scorer in both the regional and department One Day Cup so, as much as it pains me, there is some merit in his selection.

In all likelihood, he won't make the final 15 anyway.

So even with new PM same players keep getting opportunities. So why Sethi had to resign and what is the difference with new people?

So even with new PM same players keep getting opportunities. So why Sethi had to resign and what is the difference with new people?

Sethi wasn't our chief selector. Our chief selector is the person who celebrated PM's victory, so you probably won't see any changes in a team so early. Even I am afraid of Mickey's job as well. They can sack him because Hafeez was a part of that PM celebration as well.

Players in the previous Zim series are in bold:

1. Fakhar Zaman
2. Imam ul Haq

3. Shan Masood
4. Muhammad Hafeez
5. Babar Azam
6. Shoaib Malik
7. Asif Ali
8. Haris Sohail
9. Sarfraz Ahmed
10. Shadab Khan

11. Muhammad Nawaz
12. Imad Wasim
13. Hassan Ali
14. Usman khan Shanwari
15. Muhammed Amir
16. Junaid Khan

17. Shaheen Shah Afridi
18. Faheem Ashraf

16 players were in the ODI squad vs Zim.

The new additions being:
- Imad Wasim
- Shaheen Shah Afridi
- Shan Masood

1 player dropped:
- Yasir Shah

To all those who are against Shan Masood's inclusion: he was the top scorer of domestic ODI Cup held in January 2018 I think. Not Farhan or Umar Amin or any other player.

So the 15 man squad will probably be as follows:

  1. Fakhar Zaman
  2. Imam-ul-Haq
  3. Babar Azam
  4. Shoaib Malik
  5. Sarfraz Ahmed (wk)(c)
  6. Asif Ali
  7. Shadab Khan
  8. Faheem Ashraf
  9. Hasan Ali
  10. Muhammad Amir
  11. Usman Khan Shinwari

  12. Haris Sohail
  13. Mohammad Hafeez / Shan Masood
  14. Muhammad Nawaz / Imad Wasim
  15. Junaid Khan / Shaheen Shah Afridi

I agree.

If they can take 16 players to Zimbabwe, I don't see why they can't take 16 to UAE for Asia Cup.

Given that we are taking 16 players, then:

I'd take both Junaid Khan and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
And a toss up between:
- Shan / Hafeez
- Imad / Nawaz

Exactly!!!! Micky will have to put his foot down and get rid of some useless players. Our team still far behind from big teams.
Players like Imam, hafeez, Nawaz will be massacre by Indian bowlers and batters.

1 spinner in ASIA? You need to have two spinners atleast. Drop Fahim and bring Hafeez in.
P.S. Malik is not a bowler please

Really poor squad.

Disappointed as to why a traditional spinner like Asghar or Gohar was not selected but darters are preferred.

Won’t get you anywhere in the UAE except in T20’s.

As much as we dont like Shan, nobody can point a finger at him on merit. Look at his LA stats and performances.

Poor squad? You sure?
Except for two or three names, the rest looks fine to me.
I think it is about time we stop wasting time discussing bowling options (dont know what Asghar and/or Gohar will do).
We have good bowling variety and even our 3rd choice bowlers can challenge any oppossition in the world.
It is the batting we should discuss.

Bangladesh have selected 16 men in the squad. So, if Pakistan are gonna select 16 then, it would be 14 fixed spots.

With remaining 2 between

Hafeez / Haris
Imad / Nawaz

Shaheen may well go onto make his odi debut against the qualifier.

Well if we had a spinner of the calibre of Ajmal or Saqlain then yeah we should have selected them.
Obviously Yasir Shah is not ODI material.
The current formula works just fine. No need to bring average spinners just for the sake of it. The team that makes big scores will win so I am more concerned about our batting which is heavily reliant on Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam. Though I have been a supporter of Sarfaraz Ahmed but his batting appears to be the weak link in the team tbh. Specially if he decides to bat in the top 5.

Hafeez / Haris
Imad / Nawaz

.

None of these 4 are match winners so whoever the team selects I dont mind. Hafeez will at least bash the odd minnow, Haris does not know how to score more than 30 runs in an innings. Imad and Nawaz bring the same thing to the table.

Fakhar Zaman needs to fire yet again. This tournament will be a huge test for Imam-ul-Haq who has always been under the scanner big time.

Most batting sides rarely post 300+ in the UAE.

They usually do it once a series even if they are a top LOI side.

The bowling then becomes the main concern as darters become easy to negotiate especially if dew comes into play.

Knowing Pakistan bro they will probably go with 15 man sqaud lol, although 16 would be the good thing to do

If i had to select the 15 players this is who i would go with

Fakhar Zaman
Imam ul Haq
Muhammad Hafeez
Babar Azam
Shoaib Malik
Asif Ali
Haris Sohail
Sarfraz Ahmed
Shadab Khan
Imad Wasim
Hassan Ali
Usman khan Shanwari
Muhammed Amir
Shaheen Shah Afridi
Faheem Ashraf

Good bowling attack. Shan Masood and Imad Wasim shouldn't be there. The rest is as expected, no Akmal's again is always music to my ears.

An actual spinner would've been nice, like Gohar. But Malik is a good enough spinner to bowl in tandem with shadab, although its not ideal.

Another such player exists, who also was prolific in the u-19 squads of pakistan. Sami Aslam is the superior talent to shan masood and has been incompetently selected for test over odi as well. Not only that but he was given only 4 chances in ODI in which he performed okay, but was inexplicably dropped

hope shan isnt in 15 . Hafeez is much much better option . we already have Imam so having Shan in lineup is going to be big disaster . dont think Inzi or micky will do such blunder

Even I am getting feeling that we are going to lose your match against Afghanistan as well (IF IT HAPPENS)

What is an "actual spinner"? I think Shadab is that.

Shadab is definitely not a front line spinner. He's not bad but he can be prone to going for runs sometimes, he is spinner #1 who will always be in our side because of his batting, but in Asia we need another spinner, this spinner should be someone who actually spins the ball, not someone like Imad or Nawaz.

If we get sharjeel back asap in the team i think we will definitely be strong favorites to win 2019 WC we just lack a strong opener who can partner fakhar otherwise our team is complete..
Fakhar
Sharjeel
Babar
Sarfraz
Malik
Asif Ali
Shadab
Faheem
Hasan
Amir
Shinwari
Bench:
Junaid
Imad
Haris
hafeez

The team and squad should be:

Fakhar
Imam/ harris
babar
sarfaraz
malik
asif
hafeez/Faheem
shadab
nawaz/hasan
usman
aamir/ junaid

Ideally I would go with three spinners-- Shadab, Hafeez, and Nawaz. Gives us variety in the slow bowling dept. Would be harsh to sit out Faheem though, so we might have to get some overs from harris (if he plays) or fakhar. Usman on current form gets on the team before hasan and aamir.

If Shadab isnt a front line spinner than neither is Ashwin or Santner...

He's still a work in progress, and I'm not saying to drop him, but in Asia, you need 2 spinners, and Imad and Nawaz don't make the cut.

Shaheen and Nawaz will almost certainly miss out. And either one of Hafeez or Shan could get selected at the expense of the other.

Shan has a prolific List A record on his side but lacks the temperament to make it on the international stage. Hafeez has his economical bowling that could get reported/banned any moment. Pick your poison, Pakistani selectors.

Can't play another spinner as well as Shadab. If Yasir Shah was available then dropping Shadab would have been an option. At this moment Shadab's batting ability means he has to be in the side.

Why not? It's the UAE, Hasan Amir and Faheem to bowl 25 overs between them, and Shadab, 2nd spinner(preferably Gohar) and Malik to bowl the other 25

It's a good list of 18 players but would have liked to have seen Zafar and Talat in there. I don't mind masood being in there, he's performing like crazy in list A cricket, so he's definitely in there on merit. I do think we're missing a trick by not including a 2nd specialist spinner in the 18 names. We've picked three spin bowling allrounders in Hafeez, Imad and Nawaz and I would have only gone for Imad I think, so the other two could gave given away for Zafar and Talat.

I don't really get why they're going so heavy on pacers when spinners dominate in UAE and its not like Pakistan don't have spinners to chose from. But they did a similar thing when we played Sri Lanka recently so who knows, maybe it works.

My squad from that list:
- Fakhar
- Babar
- Haris
- Malik
- Sarfraz
- Ali
- Imad
- Shadab
- Hasan
- Amir
- Usman Khan

I hope the likes of Masood and Nawaz are not selected. Both are simply not good enough to represent Pakistan.

I have doubts if he will be taken warmly by Mickey and Co. For me his chapter is closed.
I know we will be comparing him to Amir, but the thing is that after the Amir episode PCB made every effort over the last few years to educate the players on fixing.

But is he proven guilty yet? why us it taking so long fkr the decision

Predictable squad, but a little disappointing one - there is nothing new in names or combination. For such tournaments, in a squad of 15/16, at least couple of new faces should be included. If younger players are not given a break, at least in squad, it’s dificult for them to bridge gap between domestic & international. Also, given that 5, may be 6 games in less than 2 weeks, a back up WK should have been there, at least in 18. Overall this is PAK’s possible best squad from known players, so fair enough; Ul Haq has played safe here.

Masood actually has earned his spot with last domestic season, can’t complain.

One spinner is enough. Don't know how good this Gohar is.

The team is already composed of young players who need as much match time as possible. Ofcourse Hafeez somehow finds a way into these squads based on some incriminating evidence against the PCB, but by and large this should be the team going forward. After a long time the team looks settled and the first XI selects itself.

One spinner is enough. Don't know how good this Gohar is.

Bowled well in the only ODI he ever got to play, had a great game in the psl as well, don't know why he was ever dropped.

Clearly the best spinner in the country after Yasir Shah is either Zafar Gohar or Mohammad Asghar. Asghar is a complete tail ender and didn't impress in the psl either, so I would give Gohar a chance.

12 spots are fixed. Remaining 3 it's a shoot out.

Shan / Hafeez
Nawaz / Imad
Junaid / Shaheen

From the 18, Asghar, Farhan and Shaheen would have been ideal, but it's not to be.

Will most likely be Hafeez, Imad and Shaheen (and probably Junaid if it is a 16 man squad).

We need to play one spinner to start of with that should be Shadab. After the first test we can analyse if another one is required fr other matches.

I dunno what the final squad size will be but if its 15 then I'll cut it down to:

1. Fakhar Zaman
2. Imam ul Haq
3 Babar Azam
4 Shoaib Malik
5. Asif Ali
6. Haris Sohail
7. Sarfraz Ahmed
8. Shadab Khan
9. Muhammad Nawaz
10. Imad Wasim
11. Hassan Ali
12. Muhammed Amir
13. Junaid Khan
14. Shaheen Shah Afridi
15. Faheem Ashraf

Shan and Hafeez get cut, obviously and sadly Shanwari has to go. His fitness is an issue and as quick as he can be, I'd rather have more reliable bowlers. Afridi stays in on the basis that he is young and could be a very good bowler.

Would have made sense to give Hussain Talat or Farhan an opportunity instead of Hafeez. Professor is desperately clinging onto for the WC and succeeding at this rate.

Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka all have released 16 man squads. So that means 2 players will be cut from these 18 players selected for the camp.

Shan Masood and M. Hafeez should be cut.

Shan and Nawaz should be out . Hafeez is third opener so he can’t sit out and Shan no way can replace Hafeez , will be a plain stupidity

Some awful selections. A solid squad picked by Inzi but would have liked to have seen Hafeez gone and for a specialist spinner to be selected.
