We all know the think tank in PCB has been in shambles for quite some time. While the PCB management of Wasim and Ehsan has been delivering stable results in their tenure the same cannot be said of Misbah and Waqar.
I'm more critical of Waqar than Misbah because I believe he has left a significant dent in the career of Naseem while over bowling Shaheen. Misbah was never the person with a vision, Misbah has always been a fire fighter (a man of crisis). The problem is when there is no longer crisis this person would not thrive and would throw the team couple of notches behind other teams.
The above is well documented so we do not want to go into further detail. This thread is more focused on the selection for T20I's given we have 2 world cups in short time coming up. For starters the selection of any new player should have legit reasons behind it. For example, Talat is selected for T20Is after making a 250 in QEA while Nawaz is selected for having a great QEA season. So the notion of selection in itself is wrong given PSL or other T20 domestic competitions don't have a say in selections.
Further, the selection should satisfy either performance or potential bracket. Someone like Ifti who has neither should not have tickets to India for T20 world cup. While someone like Asif who has potential should be kept a close eye on for the world cup. But alas we have the wrong person getting games.
The batting line up of Pakistan consists of 3 sure shot accumulators (Rizwan, Hafeez and Babar) therefore the firepower is lacking hence the other batsmen should be good power hitters. The following combo might work the trick for Pakistan and should be given enough games together to gel together before the world cup.
1. Rizwan
2. Babar
3. Haider
4. Hafeez
5. Shadab
6. Asif
7. Faheem
8. Imad
9. Hasan Ali
10. Usman
11. Shaheen
12. Khushdil
13. Rohail
14. Naseem
15. Sohaib Maqsood
The above is the culmination of best T20 players Pakistan has to offer at the moment. Khushdil only retains his place on the fact that he can hit spinners out of park.
Maqsood is the dark horse of this selection. Every world cup squad should have a player with x factor and I feel Maqsood can do that job for Pakistan. He can come into the 11 should we feel the team is too bowling heavy and requires someone in lower order to pick up run rates or chase down huge totals.
PCB think tank should keep a close eye on the upcoming PSL. Its time we select T20 players based of T20 competitions.
