Lahore, 19 May 2021:

Pakistan Cricket Board and the six franchise owners today discussed in a virtual session the operational planning and delivery of the remaining 20 HBL Pakistan Super League matches, which are scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates from 1-20 June.

Following detailed discussions in which all potential scenarios were reviewed and analysed, it was unanimously agreed to wait until the close of business on Thursday (UAE time) before a final decision on the hosting of the remaining matches is made.

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan: “In today’s online discussion, we updated the team owners that the PCB had been advised that the PSL had received approvals from the relevant authorities in the UAE. However, some clarifications on certain exemption requests are still awaited, which are expected at some stage on Thursday.

“The team owners agreed that if we do not receive clarity by Thursday afternoon, then they’ll have no other option but to request postponement of the remaining 20 matches.

“In the meantime, we will continue to liaise with the UAE government and the Emirates Cricket Board as they are equally keen for the event to be held in the UAE.”

Another screw up by the PCB, they should have been steadfast on the PSL only in Pakistan and no where else. If they show the world that they have no confidence in having a secure bio secure environment, bubble and be able to pull off the league in Pakistan without issues, how will foreign boards and players be confident about the PCB and playing cricket in Pakistan?

If you move to the UAE, you create a Pandora's box and allow future boards the opportunity to demand play in UAE or no Cricket.

The PCB should have shown some decisiveness and spine.

Have you been to Pakistan during COVID? Have you seen how seriously people take COVID there? A lot of people still believe its a hoax or a myth. PCB and NCOC prematurely decided to allow crowd and mixing of people outside the bubble with the people inside the bubble. Asian countries cannot maintain a bio bubble.

On the contrary PSL in Pakistan will ensure no international cricket for 2 more years at least in Pakistan as bubble breaches are bound to happen in Pakistan.

Doesn't look good at all does it.

Not very hopeful at all.

Strange to issue a press release saying nothing other than a decision will be made tomorrow.

Anyway, the PCB shouldn't take any risks after the debacle of bubbleburstgate earlier this year.

The BCCI took a couple of months to plan the IPL in the UAE last year. Not sure what PCB were thinking they could just move the PSL to UAE in a couple of weeks.

Looks like cancelling is the best solution.

Well done to the ***** brigade, totally undermined, underestimated the planning procedure. Typical sleeping mentality or "oh, can't be that hard can't it?" attitude.

Once again sheer incompetence from the planning team. Please just dissolve the PSL once and for all because all it's doing is bringing embarrassment to Pakistan with these blonde moments.

Think they are preparing the ground for an eventual postponement.

It was always going to be a tough ask to shift the tournament from Pakistan to UAE in the space of a few weeks.

Perhaps the amount of work involved in such a project and the logistics was underestimated.

You should have planned ahead, you had bags of time to plan this for June. There should be no excuses this is another embarrassment.

Situation is getting better in Pakistan , educational institutions are re-opening soon and we cannot organize some PSL matches in empty stadium.

If the PSL cannot happen, I think the best thing the PCB can do is organize another National T20 Cup before the T20 World Cup.

That would be extremely beneficial for the players.

Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed it has received all outstanding approvals and exemptions from the United Arab Emirates government for the staging of the remaining 20 HBL Pakistan Super League matches in Abu Dhabi.

The PCB will now hold an online meeting with the six franchise owners later in the day to update them about the progress made as well as to finalise all details, which will be shared in due course.

PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan: “We are delighted with this development as the remaining hurdles in the staging of the remaining HBL PSL 6 matches in Abu Dhabi have been overcome and all systems are now good to go.

“We are grateful to the UAE government, National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, Emirates Cricket Board and Abu Dhabi Sports Council for their support and patronage in ensuring all final obstacles were removed, which has firmly put us in a position to complete our marquee event.

“The PCB, in consultation with the team owners, will now work at pace to finalise all event-related arrangements, details of which will be shared in due course.

“I take this opportunity to thank my staff for their untiring efforts and hard work that included sacrificing their Eid-ul-Fitr holidays in an effort to ensure the PCB honours its commitment to its fans to hold the remaining matches of the tournament in June.

“The holding of the remaining matches in Abu Dhabi will allow our fans to once again follow and support their favourite players and teams through our high-quality broadcast coverage of one of the most competitive cricket leagues in the world.”

So the matches will start from June 1 as was planned before ? Only the venue is changing , but the date of fixtures is same I guess.

Anyway, well done PCB hope they will be able to conduct the entire tournament without any hiccups and thorough professionalism.

Hosting it in Abu Dhabi is the right call. There was no room for another mishap in Pakistan.

Happy to see it going ahead. Need some PSL to flavour my Summe right. Some exciting month June will be with euros and PSL being played same time.

Despite challenges, good for Pakistan cricket to move forward: Mr Salman on PSL 6 resumption

Karachi: Karachi Kings’ owner Mr. Salman Iqbal has said that despite various challenges, it is good for Pakistan cricket to stage remaining Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six matches in these unprecedented times.

PCB confirmed it has received all outstanding approvals and exemptions from the UAE government for staging matches in Abu Dhabi.

Mr. Salman revealed that various challenges will be discussed in an online meeting today where all stakeholders will look to finalize matters related to the league.

“It is important to discuss remaining logistical challenges as the weather has been very hot and the things will be planned accordingly. There might be double-headers, so let’s see what happens after the meeting,” he said in a special transmission on ARY News.

“We have to finalize things in a short period of time but it’s great for our cricket to move forward in these tough times,” he added.

Mr. Salman revealed that Karachi Kings’ players are excited to once light up the tournament in Abu Dhabi.

“Our boys already packed as they had to go to quarantine from yesterday. They are ready and excited to play,” he maintained.

Mr. Salman opined that cricket brings joy to the face of fans and it is very important that cricket activities must resume once again.

“Our people have been listening to the bad news for the last twelve, fourteen months. I have always said that cricket should come back, cricket is a positive trend for our country and the region,” he concluded.

Have to say that this issue was very well reported and handled by PP mods and admins. Reported it as the things developed unlike some media outlets and journalists who in the effort to be the first one to report something substantial and to improve their ratings presented some partial proceedings yesterday with a pinch of prediction as a sure sort conclusion.

Someone keep an eye on Javed Afridi now before he messes it up for everyone. No more freebie world tours for pointless, talentless Pawri free riders!

Hope all the owners and their companions stay back home and don't travel to UAE to be with the team. Don't want more cases of Owners mingling with the players and their relatives taking selfies in the stadiums.

I don't think Abu Dhabi conditions are great for entertaining T20 cricket and the pitch will get worse as it will be used for all games. PCB didn't have much choice but just something to bare in mind.

Captains ready to dazzle in remaining HBL PSL 6 matches

• Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Wahab Riaz and Sohail Akhtar keen for their sides Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars to maintain top spots in the table

• Mohammad Rizwan and Sarfaraz Ahmed vow to fight hard to earn play-offs spot for Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators
Lahore, 20 May 2021:

After a Covid-19 enforced break, the HBL Pakistan Super League 6 is all set to resume with the remaining 20 matches of tournament’s sixth edition taking place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. The resumption of the PCB’s marquee event has been made possible through the untiring efforts of the PCB with the support of the UAE government, National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, Emirates Cricket Board and Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

All 24 matches of the 2016 season, 23 matches of the 2017 season, 31 matches of the 2018 season and 26 matches of the 2019 season were played in the UAE. The Sheikh Zayed Stadium staged four matches of the 2019 edition and this will be the first occasion of the stadium hosting a significant number of HBL PSL matches.

The entire 2020 season was played in Pakistan, while the 2021 edition was suspended on 4 March a day after the 14th match of the tournament was played at Karachi’s National Stadium.

The six captains are now ready to switch-on and dazzle at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in search of trophy winning glory.

At present, defending champions Karachi Kings top the points table with six points from five matches (three wins, two defeats). Interestingly, all top four sides, Kings, Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars accumulated six points in the Karachi-leg, with Kings taking the top-spot due to their better net run-rate.

The 2017 champions Peshawar Zalmi occupy the second-spot with as many points, wins and defeats as the Kings but an inferior net run-rate of 0.273 compared to Kings’ 0.697.

Islamabad United, the 2016 and 2018 champions, occupy the third-spot. They recorded three wins in four matches they played in Karachi, their net run-rate is 0.202.

Lahore Qalandars, the HBL PSL 2020 finalists, are in the fourth-spot with three wins and a defeat from their four matches with six points and a net run-rate of 0.085.

Multan Sultans are languishing in the fifth-spot with two points from five matches (one win, four defeats) and a net run-rate of -0.244 while the 2019 champions Quetta Gladiators are bottom-placed with a win and four defeats in five matches and a net run-rate of -0.936.

Karachi Kings captain Imad Wasim: “The HBL Pakistan Super League 6 restart is great news for both the players and especially the fans. We were at the top of the points table in Karachi and would like to be able to sustain the run of form in Abu Dhabi too.

“I am pleased with our replacements, especially Martin Guptill and Thisara Perera who have tons of T20 experience and have been proven match winners, as well as Najib, to add to a phenomenally gifted local core, led by our batting maestro Babar Azam.

“Sharjeel Khan did well for us in Karachi while Mohammad Amir as always will be spearheading our bowling attack. At a personal level, I look forward to leading my team from the front in our efforts of a successful defence of our title.”

Peshawar Zalmi captain Wahab Riaz: “We are really excited about the resumption of the HBL Pakistan Super League 6. Like the rest of the sides, we also have a rejigged squad in terms of our foreign players.

“We are pleased with our replacements as the trio of Fabian Allen, Fidel Edwards and Rovman Powell provide us with good T20 options. We have some seasoned T20 campaigners, Shoaib Malik, Imam-ul-Haq and Kamran Akmal provide us with that experience and skill in the batting department backed by young Haider Ali.

“Mohammad Irfan, Umaid Asif and I would aim to lead the bowling attack in Abu Dhabi. Our young pacers Mohammad Imran and Amir Khan are also full of promise and potential and have a significant role to play for us in Abu Dhabi. We had a good run in Karachi and we would be aiming to further improve our performance in the remaining round matches to ensure a top two position which will help us in the play-offs.”

Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan: “In the prevailing pandemic challenges, the return of the HBL PSL 6 is a massive boost for all of us. We have great memories of playing in the UAE, United of course won its first title there in 2016. The 2017 season proved to be a life changing one for me there, now four years later, I am really looking forward to leading my side in Abu Dhabi.

“We had an excellent run in Karachi and I am confident that the team will do equally well in Abu Dhabi. Usman Khawaja provides us good foreign batting support and I am sure he will be useful for us in the top-order.

“We have quality Pakistan players in our line-up, Asif Ali, Hussain Talat, Iftikhar Ahmed and Faheem Ashraf provide us great depth and pedigree. Hasan Ali has made great all-round contributions in recent domestic and international appearances and is at present at the peak of his prowess, we hope he will continue his great form for us especially towards the business end of the tournament.”

Lahore Qalandars captain Sohail Akhtar: “The Karachi-leg was incredibly competitive and despite our fourth-spot we are joint on points with the three teams ahead of us. This means that we have a real shot at one of the four play-off berths and that is really exciting. This year also provides us the opportunity of changing our poor run in the UAE where we struggled to make an impression in the previous editions, we have some incredible local talent with a potent bowling attack which makes me very confident.

“As a captain, I am thrilled to have players like Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf in our ranks, they provide real firepower and depth to our squad. Callum Ferguson and James Faulkner lead the line-up of our foreign replacements and we have a quality roster overall as we look forward to welcoming them in Abu Dhabi.”

Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan: “We had a tough run in Karachi, but we have the depth and pedigree in our squad to turn the tables around when we resume the action in the UAE. We would need to hit the ground running and produce the wins straight away to stay in contention for a play-offs spot and that is a challenge that will motivate both me and my squad.

“Obed McCoy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz provide us depth as our foreign replacements for the Abu Dhabi-leg.

“Players like Sohaib Maqsood, Usman Qadir, Sohail Tanvir and Shahid Afridi have the ability to turn a match on its head, they can with their individual and collective brilliance, bring us right back in the hunt in Abu Dhabi. I am hopeful that we will put smiles on the Sultans’ fans faces with a strong turnaround in the remainder of the tournament.”

Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed: “The Karachi-leg was a challenging one for us as a team but we took a significant step in the last match before the suspension by becoming the first side to successfully defend a target in the HBL Pakistan Super League 6. The last result is a positive that we will carry with us in Abu Dhabi, UAE has been a great venue for us as we have done outstandingly well there in the past.

“The conditions and the nature of the pitches have always suited us and we would really want to make it count as we cannot afford a slip-up. We look forward to welcoming Andre Russell to our ranks, his presence, rich T20 experience and sheer star power will definitely help us in the remainder of the tournament.

“Besides Russell, players like Azam Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Hasnain and Anwar Ali are match winners on their day and we need them to be at their very best in Abu Dhabi. Opener Usman Khan won us the last match in Karachi on his HBL PSL debut and I hope he will continue to play with the same fearless approach.”

Afridi and Usman will form a superb partnership with young Dhani spearheading. Batting looks good also with a lot of talent in there. Can’t wait.

Excellent news if the tournament is completed.

No final details as yet from PCB, but it seems like it's all systems go for Abu Dhabi.

In the end, the drama over staging the PSL in the UAE felt like a nail-biting last-over finish of a Twenty20 game with the gloriously unpredictable Pakistan reaching the finish line in the most dramatic of fashions.

And the legions of fans heaved a collective sigh of relief after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ended days of intense speculation over the fate of the Pakistan Super League on Thursday.

The PCB announced on Thursday that they had got all the approvals from the UAE government to resume the suspended T20 league in Abu Dhabi — barely 24 hours after admitting that they would “have no other option but to request postponement of the remaining 20 matches if we do not receive clarity by Thursday afternoon”.

But Wasim Khan, PCB Chief Executive, declared on Thursday that all the roadblocks had been cleared for the resumption of a league that was suspended in March after just 14 matches due to Covid-19 cases in the bio-bubble.

“We are delighted with this development as the remaining hurdles in the staging of the remaining HBL PSL 6 matches in Abu Dhabi have been overcome and all systems are now good to go,” Khan said in a PCB statement.

“We are grateful to the UAE government, National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, Emirates Cricket Board and Abu Dhabi Sports Council for their support and patronage in ensuring all final obstacles were removed, which has firmly put us in a position to complete our marquee event.”

The PCB had initially planned to stage the remaining 20 matches at the National Stadium in Karachi from June 1. But with Pakistan bracing for a second wave of Covid-19 infections, the cricket board accepted a proposal from the six franchises to bring the event to the UAE.

One of the franchises that had advocated the move to the UAE right from the start was Peshawar Zalmi.

And Javed Afridi, the owner of Peshawar Zalmi, was delighted after the PCB finally got the approval from the UAE authorities, ending an anxious wait for all the stakeholders.

“Dair aaye, durust aaye (better late than never),” Afridi told Khaleej Times.

Afridi says the league’s return to the UAE that hosted its first four editions (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019) proves why this country has set a new benchmark in terms of hosting elite sports events amid a raging pandemic.

“Again PSL in the UAE means that the world has acknowledged their Covid-19 arrangements to stage mega events like the PSL. Credit goes to the UAE leadership,” Afridi said.

Salman Iqbal, the owner of Karachi Kings who had also backed the plan to move the tournament to the UAE, thanked the local authorities for their support.

“It’s very encouraging actually, thanks to the Abu Dhabi government, and the ECB. You know the option of all the three venues — Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah — was actually open to us,” Iqbal told Khaleej Times.

Iqbal then revealed the logistical challenges faced by the Pakistan board and the franchises.

“There was a huge logistics issue that we had to face with people coming from India, South Africa, you know players, coaches, technicians and the government has been fabulous in accommodating all of them even though they are coming from different countries. It’s quite encouraging and satisfying actually.”

But Iqbal admitted that there would be a slight delay in resuming the league.

“I think the schedule is going to come out tomorrow. As far as I have been told, the first match will be on fifth June,” Iqbal informed.

“The final will on June 20, so it’s the same date, because the Pakistan team will have to go to England also. There will be at least four or five or even six double headers (to get all the matches),” he said.

The players, Iqbal informed, have already started assembling in Pakistan.

“It’s a 10-day quarantine. And the foreign players, most of them are flying to Pakistan to join the teams. Some of them (foreign players) will fly directly to Dubai and then travel to Abu Dhabi for quarantine.”

Finally, Iqbal hailed the efforts taken by the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) in paving the way for PSL’s return to the UAE.

“NCEMA has done a great job in managing everything. And the ECB also came forward. In fact, the whole PSL team, has been in the UAE, working tirelessly even during the Eid holidays. This is the result of the tireless efforts of the PCB team and the ECB team.”

Some reports saying that the tournament might have to start a few days later.

As yet no details of revised fixtures.

If the PCB can pull this off then this a big feather in their cap. It won't quite make up for the mess back in March but it will go some way

Heard that Subhan Ahmed played a critical role in helping the PCB and convincing the UAE authorities to let the PSL happen. He is now working at the Emirates Cricket Board

Double headers in June heat of Abu Dhabi, are they mad. Only such possibility is start first match at 6 PM local time and second at 10 PM. And timing in Pak will be one hour behind, so second match at 11PM. atleast 50 to 60% viewers will miss out. Specially middle and working class who have to go work next day 7 am and young children because it's exam season. Still it will be too hard to pull of for PCB and Players. I know they have no choice but let's see how the make it happen.

Tamim, Shakib, Cutting pull out of PSL 6 remainder

LAHORE: Few of the foreign players have excused from taking part in the remaining Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 6 in Abu Dhabi due to one or another reason.

According to the sources, Bangladesh’s Shakib-al-Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah have been pulled out from the competition due to personal reasons. Usman Khawaja’s participation is unexpected due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Australia’s Ben Cutting and Joe Burns, South Africa’s George Linde will also be unavailable for the league’s remaining matches.

It must be noted here that Abu Dhabi will host PSL 6’s remainder in early June. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is currently putting things in place for hosting the extravaganza. The revised schedule of the event will be announced soon.

Replacements of any players will be found.
The pool of players wanting to play is far to big to stop PSL cricket.

Although the players mentioned just had been picked.

With cpl n English t20 around won’t be surprised to see some unknown quantities ala summers

LAHORE: The Covid-19 testing of the players and officials of six Pakistan Super League teams for the remaining 20 matches will begin from Saturday before two chartered flights will take them to Abu Dhabi on May 26 from Karachi and Lahore.

The new schedule of the remaining PSL matches, to be held in Abu Dhabi from the first week of June, will be announced once the Indian and South African broadcasting crews will be issued visas by the UAE authorities. The PCB has applied for their visas but since Friday is a weekly holiday in the UAE, the visas may now be issued by Sunday.

According to the information gathered by Dawn, after clearing the first Covid-19 test on Saturday the players and officials will be shifted to their respective hotels in Lahore and Karachi on Monday. Two more tests of each member of the teams will be conducted before they will get clearance to depart for Abu Dhabi on May 26.

It may be mentioned here that the busy schedules of international players could take away some excitement from the remaining PSL 6 matches. The Sri Lankan cricketers have reached Bangladesh for a One-day series while New Zealand squad is in England for a Test series. The English County Cricket season has also kicked off while South Africa is visiting the West Indies these days.

However, the PSL franchises are busy picking up the replacements of these missing players.

Moreover, the broadcasters have shown some concern over the late televising of the second match on some days (PST 10.00 p.m) as they believe it may hit the viewership. The franchises and the broadcasters are also in discussion to revise the timings of the matches.

Earlier, the PCB had the plan to start the matches from June 1 to finish it on June 17. But due to a delay caused in getting some assurance from the UAE government, the fresh schedule now is most likely to start from June 5 to 20 with two matches to be held on six days.

Will they allow spectators. Since Dubai announce recently it will allow vaccinated people in events for a month.

Narine, Bravo available in PSL 6 replacement draft

Karachi: Renowned West Indies’ T20 stars Sunil Narine and Dwayne Bravo have shown availability to play in the remaining matches of Pakistan Super League (PSL) season six, ARY Sports reported.

According to details, off-spinner Narine has communicated his availability to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and is ready to come to Abu Dhabi while all-rounder Bravo will be available for some matches.

Remember, franchises will look to pick replacements of foreign cricketers after they excused from taking part in PSL 6 remainder due to one or another reason.

Reportedly, Bangladesh’s Shakib-al-Hasan and Mahmudullah, Australia’s Ben Cutting, Usman Khwaja and Joe Burns, South Africa’s George Linde have pulled out from the competition.

It must be noted here that Abu Dhabi will host PSL 6’s remainder in early June. PCB in consultation with franchises is currently putting things in place for hosting the extravaganza. The revised schedule of the event will be announced soon.

West Indian famed T20 batting duo of Shimron Hetmyer and Johnson Charles were submitted as replacement picks by Multan Sultans in an online session held with the franchise representatives on Tuesday evening.

The hard-hitting left-hander Hetmyer will be making his HBL PSL debut while the wicketkeeper-batsman Charles has represented Quetta Gladiators as well as the Sultans in earlier HBL PSL editions.

Earlier, it was decided that all teams will be allowed 20-member squads and the teams submitted a total of 12 picks which included replacement as well as the 19th and 20th player submissions for some of the teams. Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars have not made selections for their 20th player which they will make later, if needed.

Besides Hetmyer and Charles, Sultans also picked Hammad Azam and Muhammad Waseem (UAE).

The management of Lahore Qalandars can confirm that ICC T20i player of decade Rashid Khan from Afghanistan will be available for remainders of Pakistan Super League 6 matches in Abu Dhabi.

Rashid had earlier represented Qalandars in two matches of the 6th edition in Karachi but the Afghanistan Cricketer had to leave the team to join his national team.

His availability will help Lahore Qalandar fill the void after unavailability of Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hassan.

Qalandars COO Sameen Rana expressed his delight over return of Rashid to Qalandars’ dugout.

“This is a great news for not only the fans of Lahore Qalandars but also for the fans of Pakistan Super League. Rashid is one of the best T20 cricketers in the world and his presence will strengthen the Qalandars’ side,” Mr. Rana said.

“We are also thankful to Mr. Imran Ahmed Khan who worked hard with us to ensure Rashid’s availability for PSL and Lahore Qalandars,” he said.

Rashid Khan said that he is looking forward to entertain the crowd in PSL and help Lahore Qalandars lift the trophy.

“I am excited to be back with PSL and Lahore Qalandars. I had couple of good games with them earlier and the team went off to a good start, I am hopeful to help them continue with the momentum,” Rashid Khan said.

For IU, can only Munro and Khawaja making the XI.
Where is Paul Stirling? And why is Malan unavailable?

The HBL Pakistan Super League 6 Karachi-leg produced some thrilling cricket which kept the teams, followers and fans on the edge of their seats throughout the 14 matches. The teams batting second won the first 13 matches while 2019 champions, Quetta Gladiators turned the tables on Multan Sultans in the last match to be played at the National Stadium with a 22-run win on 3 March, becoming the first team to successfully defend a target in the season.

The sixth edition has so far proved to be as competitive as others with four of the six sides tied at six points each heading to the Abu Dhabi-leg which will be played next month at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Points table:

Defending champions Karachi Kings topped the points table with six points from five matches (three wins, two defeats).

Lahore Qalandars, the HBL PSL 2020 finalists, are in the fourth-spot with three wins and a defeat from their four matches with a net run-rate of 0.085 and six points.

Multan Sultans are languishing in the fifth-spot with two points from five matches (one win, four defeats) and a net run-rate of -0.244 while the 2019 champions Quetta Gladiators are bottom-placed with a win and four defeats in five matches and a net run-rate of -0.936.

Most runs:
Three batters accumulated 200 runs or more in the Karachi-leg with Sultans’ skipper Mohammad Rizwan leading the run-getters table. The wicketkeeper-batsman who has enjoyed a phenomenal run in T20 and T20Is in the recent past scored 297 runs at 59.40 at an impressive strike-rate of 140.09 in his five matches for the Sultans.

Rizwan hit three half-centuries in the Karachi-leg. Pakistan T20I captain and Kings batting mainstay Babar Azam scored 258 runs at 86. The right-hander maintained a strike-rate of 138.70 while registering three half-centuries for his side in their five games.

Babar’s opening partner Sharjeel Khan scored the only century of the Karachi-leg, the left-hander’s 200 runs in five innings were scored at a strike-rate of 170.94, he averaged 40 per innings with the help of a century and one half-century.

The Babar-Sharjeel duo recorded the highest partnership of the Karachi-leg, adding 176 runs against United.

Most wickets:
Zalmi’s fast bowler Saqib Mehmood was the highest wicket-taker of the Karachi-leg, the right-armer took 12 wickets in five matches at 12.08 and an impressive economy rate of 7.98, his best figures were three wickets for 12 runs.

Qalandars’ left-armer Shaheen Shah Afridi also carried on his impressive T20 bowling form by snaring nine wickets in four games at 12.55. Shaheen conceded a mere 7.06 runs per over, his best figures were three wickets for 14 runs.

Sultans’ pacer Shahnawaz Dhani caught the attention of the followers and fans of the league by collecting nine wickets in four games in his debut HBL PSL season. Sultans would be banking on Shahnawaz in the Abu Dhabi-leg for a revival of their fledgling fortunes. Shahnawaz was a touch expensive with a 10.33 economy rate in the Karachi-leg but kept taking wickets at regular intervals at 17.22. His best figures were three wickets for 44 runs.

Meanwhile, Zalmi skipper Wahab Riaz recorded the only four-wicket haul of the Karachi-leg, the left-armer took four wickets for 17 runs against United to spearhead his side’s convincing six-wicket victory.

Fielding and wicketkeeping:
Zalmi’s Tom-Kohler-Cadmore topped the fielders’ charts with five catches in four matches, teammate Shoaib Malik took four catches in the Karachi-leg. Quetta Gladiators’ Faf du Plessis, Ben Cutting and Babar all took three catches each.

Kings’ wicketkeeper Joe Clarke took five catches in the Karachi-leg, Qalandars’ Ben Dunk and Rizwan snared four catches each.

Boundaries and wickets count:
In the Karachi-leg, a total of 446 fours and 176 sixes were hit while 159 wickets fell.

Highest team score:
Zalmi chased down a 199-run target on their way to a 202 for seven total (19.3) overs in an epic clash with the Gladiators (198 for seven) which lived up to the Gladiators-Zalmi rivalry expectations.

Kings chased down 196-run target against Sultans (195 for six) on their way to 198 for three in 18.5 overs in another exciting clash which kept the fans glued to the action.

Lowest team score:
United’s 118 all out in 17.1 overs was the lowest team score in the 14-match Karachi-leg against Zalmi. Gladiators were folded for 121 in 18.2 overs in their match against the Kings.

The Pakistan Cricket Board is awaiting visas for the Indian and South African members of the Pakistan Super League's broadcasting crew.
The PSL-6 will resume in Abu Dhabi.

According to details, the PCB had until Sunday not received visas for the Indian and South Africa nationals in the broadcasting crew, who have to undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine period once they land in Abu Dhabi.

"The quarantine period for the rest of the participants of the PSL 6 including Pakistani players is seven days but the PCB is worried about the broadcasting crew of Indian and South Africans because time is running out," a source said.

Eight Australians will fly to the United Arab Emirates this week ahead of the planned resumption of the Pakistan Super League as the T20 tournament looks to finish its COVID-hit season.

Just 14 of the scheduled 34 PSL games were possible in Karachi in February before the tournament was suspended amid an outbreak of COVID-19 cases amid players and support staff.

The tournament's success or otherwise, with all remaining matches scheduled for Abu Dhabi, will be watched closely by Indian Premier League officials who are also looking for a window to resume that league after a similar fate befell it earlier this month.

The UAE is also reportedly in the running to host this year's T20 World Cup, currently scheduled for India. With that country still in the grips of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic that cut short the IPL season, a decision is expected at an ICC meeting early next month.

Jack Wildermuth, Jake Weatherald and Tim David are the latest Australia-based players to be called up for the tournament after it staged a third draft on the weekend to fill the gaps in club rosters caused by the fixture reshuffle.

Wildermuth and Weatherald were picked up by the Quetta Gladiators after Ben Cutting opted out of a return, while David will join the Lahore Qalanders.

Cutting, who also played in the Indian Premier League, was not part of the Australian contingent who returned to Sydney last week on a BCCI charter flight from Maldives, having instead travelled to Dubai with the intention to resume the PSL season with Quetta Gladiators.

But with a late hiccup in PSL authorities getting clearance to host the tournament in Abu Dhabi, Cutting made the call to come home.

He had spent 19 consecutive days in hotel isolation from when the IPL was suspended until his flight home, and having been in bio-secure bubbles for all but a week since the start of the KFC BBL last November, the 34-year-old decided he needed a break.

"I love the PSL and playing for Quetta but in the current climate of bio bubbles and quarantine it's difficult to do everything," Cutting told cricket.com.au from his hotel quarantine in Brisbane.

"I have been in bubbles since I left home on November 30, only having a week outside them for my wedding in February. I left two days later for the first round of the PSL and I needed a mental break from quarantine.

"I have come home to refresh, reset and get back into things again at whatever tournament pops up next."

Joe Burns, who was a surprise inclusion in the competition's second draft late last month, has now pulled out of what would have been his first stint in a T20 franchise competition, while Dan Christian – who will re-join Nottinghamshire for the T20 Blast in the UK – and Chris Lynn are also not returning.

A second draft ahead of a planned restart in Karachi saw Usman Khawaja selected by Islamabad United for what he hoped would be his first ever professional cricket matches in the country of his birth.

While Khawaja will still travel to play for Islamabad, the wait to play on Pakistan soil will go on with the remaining 20 matches of the tournament, including finals, to be held in Abu Dhabi.

James Faulkner and Callum Ferguson were also picked up in the second draft and both are set to play for the Lahore Qalanders franchise.

Fawad Ahmed and Ben Dunk, who travelled to Pakistan for the start of the tournament, are set to return to their Islamabad and Lahore franchises, respectively.

Fawad was one of the many players and support staff who contracted COVID-19 at the tournament in February and, while he did not need hospitalisation, was bedridden for 17 days.

He told cricket.com.au that his experience had not diminished his appetite for the global T20 circuit, but he said he wants to see more strict biosecurity measures in place for the resumption.

Cutting, who also played in the IPL, was not part of the Australian contingent who returned to Sydney last week on a BCCI charter flight from the Maldives, having instead travelled to Dubai. He arrived in Brisbane over the weekend to begin his 14-day quarantine period.

There has been a large amount of shuffling of team rosters, not least by Afghanistan and Adelaide Strikers leg-spinner Rashid Khan; having pulled out of the tournament resumption and replaced by Bangladesh allrounder Shakib-al-Hasan, Rashid has now recommitted to the tournament after Shakib pulled out.

Squad sizes have been increased to 20 players, but the minimum number of overseas players required in a playing XI has been reduced from three to two players for the remaining 14 games.

Islamabad, Lahore and the Karachi Kings have so far only selected 19 players.

According to media reports players from the six franchises would have seven days in quarantine in the UAE, with players from South Africa and the subcontinent arriving on chartered flights. It's understood the Australians will take commercial flights to the UAE.

The PCB has got special permission from the UAE authorities to host the remaining 20 matches of the PSL in the Gulf country. The PSL was abruptly postponed in March due to COVID-19 cases among some franchise players and officials.

The source said the PCB was keen to start the tournament by June 5 as the weather also gets hotter in Abu Dhabi in the latter part of June and July.

“The PCB will have to bear a lot of extra expenses as they are also planning to fly out the South African players and crew from Johannesburg to Abu Dhabi on a chartered flight while remaining players and officials will take a chartered flight from Karachi to Abu Dhabi.”

The HBL Pakistan Super League is set to return Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Stadium next month. The picturesque stadium will host 20 matches of the sixth edition, which will mark the second instance of the venue staging HBL PSL games.

It was during the 2019 edition when the stadium hosted the HBL PSL for the first time when four league matches of the fourth season were played here.

Quetta Gladiators, the champions of the 2019 edition, consolidated their position for the HBL PSL 2019 playoffs with two comprehensive wins against Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United by eight wickets and 43 runs, respectively.

Karachi Kings downed Multan Sultans by five wickets and Zalmi thumped Lahore Qalandars by four wickets in the other two matches.

Gladiators’ 180 for nine against United is the highest HBL PSL team total at the venue and Sultans’ 118 for seven against Kings is the lowest.

Shane Watson’s electrifying 91 not out off 55 balls – studded with six sixes and as many fours – for the Gladiators against Zalmi is the highest HBL PSL individual score at the venue.

Kings’ pacer Usman Shinwari, who is representing the Gladiators this season, returned figures of four for 15 against Sultans while United’s Faheem Ashraf took four wickets for 18 runs against the Gladiators in his side’s 43-run loss.

In the Sheikh Zayed Stadium’s HBL PSL debut, Gladiators took on Zalmi in the 23rd match of the season. Wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal’s 72 off 50 balls and Kieron Pollard’s whirlwind 44 off 21 balls (seven fours, one six) took Zalmi to 165 for four in their 20 overs. Player of the match Watson added 129 runs with Ahmed Shehzad (50) for the second-wicket to ensure his side’s comfortable eight-wicket win with 14 balls to share.

Usman’s four-fer restricted Sultans to 118 for seven in next match. Liam Livingstone scored an unbeaten 53 to guide Kings to their five-wicket win the final over of the match.

Zalmi chased down the 125-run target on the penultimate ball against Qalandars. Player of the match Misbah-ul-Haq’s unbeaten 59 and captain Daren Sammy’s 46-run contribution rescued Zalmi from a precarious 20 for five to their hard fought victory.

In the fourth and last match to be played at the venue in the 2019 season, Gladiators defeated United by 43 runs. Batting first, player of the match Ahmed Shehzad’s 73 guided Gladiators to 180 for seven. United were restricted to 137 for nine in reply with leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed taking three wickets.

Overall T20 numbers at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium

The venue has so far staged 124 T20 matches including 48 T20Is.

Pakistan national men’s cricket team boast six wins from nine matches here between 2010 and 2018.

Highest and lowest team T20 scores at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium

There have been a total of eight instances of 200-plus totals at the venue with Ireland’s 225 for seven against Afghanistan in the 2013-14 season being the highest.

On the other hand, Nigeria’s 66 for nine against Ireland in 20 overs in the 2019-20 season is the lowest T20 team total at the venue. Pakistan men’s team bowled out Australia for 89 in the 2018 three-match series, which is the eight-lowest team total at the venue.

Highest individual T20 scores at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium

A total of six T20 centuries have been scored here. Qalandars captain Sohail Akhtar is one of the six centurions. The right-handed hard-hitting batsman scored 100 off 56 balls (11 fours, five sixes) in his side’s six-wicket win over Yorkshire in an Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy fixture in October 2018.

Ireland’s William Porterfield topping the list with his 127 not out against USA in the 2013-14 season.

Best bowling performances at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium

Two five-wicket hauls have been registered here in T20 cricket.

Denmark’s Aftab Ahmed took six wickets for 22 against Papua New Guinea in 2011-12 while VV Chakravarthy took five wickets for 20 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders against Delhi Capitals in an Indian Premier League match played in the 2020-21 season.

Naseem Shah of Quetta Gladiators has been released from isolation in Lahore after he breached the protocols for departure from Pakistan by arriving at the designated hotel with a non-compliant RT-PCR test result. As such, the fast bowler will not be travelling to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on 26 May and is now out of the competition.

As per the Covid-19 protocols for the remaining HBL Pakistan Super League 6 matches, all those traveling through chartered flights from Karachi and Lahore were directed to assemble at the team hotels in Karachi and Lahore on 24 May with negative reports of PCR tests taken not more than 48 hours prior to arrival at the hotel.

However, Naseem presented a PCR report from a test that was conducted on 18 May. Upon submission of the report, he was placed into isolation on a separate floor before being released following a decision made by a three-member panel on the recommendation of the independent Medical Advisory Panel for PSL.

Babar Hamid, Director – Commercial and head of HBL PSL 6: “The PCB doesn’t take any pride in releasing a young fast bowler from its marquee event but if we will ignore this breach, then we will potentially put at risk the entire event. We appreciate Quetta Gladiators for accepting this decision as it confirms we are all aligned to strictly following and implementing the protocols.

“This decision will also send out a loud and clear message to all involved in the remaining matches that the PCB will not compromise on any violations and will expel the player or player support personnel irrespective of his stature and standing in the game if they are found to be flouting the prescribed protocols or regulations.

“All participating in the tournament must understand that these protocols have been put in place for the health and safety of all involved as well for the integrity and credibility of the event and the PCB. As such, the onus is on them to ensure these are followed in its true letter and spirit and without exception.”

ARACHI: Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Pakistan has Sunday announced Sri Lankan cricket players will be allowed an entry via a specially chartered plane despite a temporary travel ban on category C countries that include Sri Lanka as well, ARY News reported.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had written to CAA for letting players into the country for ongoing Pakistan Super League season six tournament.

The 10 Sri Lankan players will land in Lahore via a private international flight to then board for a UAE flight on May 26. They will join the matches there with absolute implementation of SOPs in place.

‘All systems are now good to go’: PCB gets approval to hold remaining PSL 6 matches in Abu Dhabi

It may be noted that PCB confirmed earlier this week it has received all “outstanding approvals and exemptions” from the UAE government for holding the remaining 20 HBL PSL matches in Abu Dhabi.

The PCB will now hold an online meeting with the six franchise owners later in the day to update them about the progress made as well as to finalise all details, which will be shared in due course, a statement issued by the board read.

Who are 10 srilankan player's?

The Quetta Gladiators all-rounder Anwar Ali has tested positive for Covid-19.
He is already in isolation in Karachi.

The HBL Pakistan Super League has been synonymous with providing exposure to young and talented cricketers since its inception in 2016. A number of youngsters have gone on to make a big name at the international level after gaining exposure at one of the most competitive T20 leagues in the world.

Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan and Haider Ali honed their skills in the HBL PSL environs before introducing their exploits at the international stage.

The HBL PSL 6 has introduced a number of newcomers. With the tournament moving to its business end in Abu Dhabi from next month, Lahore Qalandars’ Ahmed Danyal, Peshawar Zalmi’s Mohammad Imran, Quetta Gladiator’s Saim Ayub, Multan Sultans’ Sohaibullah and Islamabad United’s Zeeshan Zameer are eager to prove their worth.

Joining this talented bunch is Mohammad Haris. Haris hails from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and was part of the Pakistan squad f0r the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2020. He has been picked by defending champions Karachi Kings.

Right-arm pacer Ahmed who played for Qalandars in a T20 tournament in Abu Dhabi prior to the start of the HBL PSL 6, represented Qalandars in four matches in Karachi, taking two wickets including bowling Kings’ Colin Ingram for a first ball duck.

Zalmi’s Swat-born Imran (left-arm-medium-fast) has been most impressive with the guile and control as his 7.05 economy rate suggests. Like Ahmed, Imran made his T20 debut in the HBL PSL 6. He played all of his side’s five matches to date and took three wickets and ensured that the batsmen stayed in check.

Saim also made his T20 debut in the HBL PSL 6 Karachi-leg. The Karachi-born left-handed opener, played all five matches for the Gladiators in his hometown. He scored a valuable 23 in a 69-run opening stand with Usman Khan against Sultans’ in his side’s only victory of the season.

Sultans’ played left-armer Sohaibullah in their opening match of the season. He was picked by the franchise after an impressive run in the last year’ National T20 Cup. He took five wickets for Central Punjab at an average of 28. It was his economy rate of 7.78 which stood out as he denied batsmen opportunities to score freely.

United have in their ranks U19 fast bowler Zeeshan Zameer, who was named in the Pakistan U19 team for the tour of Bangladesh last month, which was later postponed. Though the right-arm quick did not turn out for the 2016 and 2018 champions in Karachi, the United have a talented prospect in him who they can turn to in Abu Dhabi.

Ahmed Daniyal – Lahore Qalandars: “The Lahore Qalandars management reposed their trust and confidence in me which has made my introduction to the HBL Pakistan Super League a memorable one. T20 is a tough format for any bowler but if you have belief in your skills and can make your execution correct you have good chances of success.

“During the Karachi-leg, I wanted to show my potential to Pakistan cricket fans and justify my selection. During the last month or so, I have worked hard on various aspects of my game. For the Abu Dhabi-leg my aim is to continue my progress and deliver the role assigned to me. We had a good run in Karachi and if we continue in the same manner, we can surely make history and lift the trophy for the first time.”

Mohammad Haris – Karachi Kings: “I am absolutely thrilled to join the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 defending champions. Karachi Kings is a big franchise with some of the biggest names in the game and to rub shoulders with them will be nothing short of a dream coming true for me.

“If given an opportunity I would aim to play my natural game and back my skills that helped me at the U19 level and for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the last domestic season. I have worked really hard on my batting, wicketkeeping and overall fitness in recent months and I hope that I make all of that count when I take the field for my team in Abu Dhabi.”

Mohammad Imran – Peshawar Zalmi: “This is my first season of the HBL Pakistan Super League. I really enjoyed the Karachi-leg especially since I was given a big responsibility of bowling at various stages of the 20 overs by the team management. My aim was to keep things simple and make runs scoring tough for the batters.

“The Abu Dhabi-leg would be another big challenge but I am very keen on continuing my progress and learn more about bowling in the format and make significant contributions for my team. I have felt very welcomed in the Zalmi camp and it has been a phenomenal experience for me so far which I want to make even more memorable in the upcoming games.”

Saim Ayub – Quetta Gladiators: “The opportunity to open the innings for Gladiators in the Karachi-leg was a hugely exciting one for me. At the start of the tournament I found the big stage a bit challenging but the team management gave me a lot of confidence and encouragement. I have thoroughly enjoyed my journey with the Gladiators so far and it was a great privilege to share the crease with T20 stars like Chris Gayle and Faf du Plessis.

“The partnership with Usman gave me a lot of confidence as we were able to set-up the platform for our first win of the season. Now in the Abu Dhabi-leg I would want to utilise the experience I gained in Karachi and ensure that I contribute to the team’s cause. We have a lot of work to do there but we have the depth and pedigree in our squad to make a big comeback and stake a claim for a playoff spot.”

Sohaibullah – Multan Sultans: “I got the opportunity of playing Sultans’ opening game of the season, I really enjoyed the challenge of bowling to Islamabad United’s world-class batting line-up. Although I didn’t play any further part in the Karachi-leg, I am as prepared as ever to showcase my talent and ability.

“We had a bit of a struggle in Karachi but we are more than capable of making a strong comeback in Abu Dhabi. As an opening bowler, I know I have a tough role to perform in the T20 format, but that is the kind of challenge I enjoy. I would give my 100 per cent whenever I get the opportunity to play in Abu Dhabi, I have the confidence in my skills of delivering as per my captain and coach’s plan.”

Zeeshan Zameer – Islamabad United: “Being part of the Islamabad United is a huge honour for me, I really enjoyed my time in Karachi as senior bowlers in the side gave me constant guidance and support. I have practiced really hard on my skills in the last month or so following the Pakistan U19 team camp in Lahore.

“I really enjoy bowling fast and taking on the batters in the T2o format. My aim would be to make a big impression when I get the opportunity to wear the United kit in Abu Dhabi. The HBL Pakistan Super League is a fantastic platform for young players from all around the country and we have seen some real talent emerge from the tournament. Our team did very well in Karachi and we have a real chance of qualifying for the playoffs and eventually winning the trophy for the third time.”

The departure of both chartered flights from Pakistan to the UAE for HBL PSL 6 has been postponed by a day due to a delay in the issuance of visas for some of the participants. The quarantine arrangements at respective hotels in Lahore and Karachi have been extended accordingly.

Still nothing yet from PCB.

I'm starting to get worried due to the visa's not being granted yet...I want PCB to never consider UAE under any circumstances. I wouldn't be surprised if PSL gets postponed again

LAHORE: Around 233 players of all the six franchises of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the staff of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are set to leave for Abu Dhabi on Wednesday morning from Lahore and Karachi on chartered flights to feature in the remaining 20 matches of the league which are likely to be held there tentatively from June 5 to 20.

However, their departure is conditional to their second negative Covid-19 test report.

According to the PCB, around 168 people will travel from Lahore on a chartered flight while 65 will leave for Abu Dhabi from Karachi. All the cricketers available in Pakistan for the league have been in quarantine at a local hotel since Monday where the second test of Covid-19 was conducted on Tuesday and their reports will come out before the planes depart for Abu Dhabi.

If any player or official’s result comes in positive he will not go to Abu Dhabi, the PCB said.

It may be mentioned here that the PCB had applied for the visas of UAE for 370 people including players, officials and broadcasters. The final schedule of the remaining league matches will be announced once the visas to the Indians and South Africans’ nationals are issued.

According to the PCB, the visas to the majority of the Indians and South Africans crew members have been issued and once all will be received, the final schedule of the league will be issued. For Indians and South Africans a ten-days quarantine period is compulsory because both the countries are included in the red-list of several countries due to the high number of Covid-19 cases. However, after eight days of quarantine they can start their duties under strict SOPs.

Great news that the tournament is going to go ahead. I just hope that things haven't been rushed with the intention to definitely play it at all costs.

Another postponement would really damage the PSL brand.

Fingers crossed, all goes well.

I don't get it, what did Nasim Shah actually do? What protocol did he breach?
