It's been 2 years since Mickey Arthur and co took over after the debacle of WT20i 2016. WT2016 was one of the most depressing tournaments for Pakistan as it opened our eyes that how much behind the world we were in terms of modern cricketers. Seeing the "next generation" of Pakistan that was meant to take Pakistan forward in the likes of Umar Akmal, Ahmed Shehzad, Sharjeel, Latif struggle against other countries was heart breaking. So afterwards, the likes of Shehzad and Akmal were dumped and the coaching staff and selection committee resigned and in came Mickey Arthur and co, Inzi and co along with rebuilding and reshaping of Pakistan team. This thread is about evaluation of their performance of the current staff. It's not about how the previous regimes were worse, but about how the current staff is so much better. Let's just focus on the positives.
Mickey Arthur:
Strict, discipline oriented and a modern coach, who finally brought the modern cricketing culture to Pakistan. Introduced strict fitness standards, strict adherence to discipline and influx of youngsters and increasing the depth of the squad while also reshaping the team to his own liking.
Steve Rixon
Possibly the only coach who has improved the fitness and fielding standards of Pakistani team notorious for its poor fielding.
Azhar Mahmood:
Has seen the development of so many pacers and has recently introduced rotation policy as well. Amir's line and length has been gradually getting better and is starting to pitch the ball up again without fear.
Junaid Khan returned to Australia series and has since improved and been getting back to the pacer we all fell in love with post 2011 after 2 years on the sidelines. Had been getting his performance up along with pace and seam movement gradually before the injury. Although still not the bowler he was back in 2013, hopefully he will rediscover himself in Azhar's tutleage.
Hassan Ali's rise as one of the leading bowlers in the world especially in ODI's has been remarkable.
Muhammad Abbas' has been getting better with every match he plays.
Usman Khan used to be haywire, but has been a consistent force since 2016, has gotten a lot more consistent and ruthless, Azhar deserves a lot of credit for that.
Rumman has also been getting better. His pace has risen along with some early swing movement.
Fahim has visibly developed as well. is a reliable third seamer (4th outside subcontinent) now.
Grant Flower:
The only member of the staff who was present even before the start of this regime. Usually criticized for not making much of a difference, but let's look at his performance.
Fakhar used to be very weak on the leg side when he first came, but if you see him now, he is bursting with confidence and has developed his allround game.
Babar Azam used to be a flashy newcomer, but has since developed into a much constant and calming presence on the crease and has learned to construct big innings. Still a work in progress, has lots to prove in Tests.
Shoaib Malik's batting has considerably improved. Although at his age, its unlikely to improve his technique and weaknesses, but he has been using different grip while playing pacers and esp for the balls aimed at his ribs.
Azhar Ali's promotion as a Test opener has been something of a blessing as well.
Apart from these, the emergence of Shadab and Fahim have been brilliant too. Shadab's progress as a bowler has been a joy to watch. He doesn't fire in quick googlies in Tests anymore, has slowed his deliveries and has added flight to his bowling as well and remains a work in progress. His batting has also improved.
All in all, probably one of the best coaching staff Pakistan have ever had, and the future remains exicting.
You guys add stuff as well.
