What's new

Peshawar Zalmi (176/5) knock Karachi Kings (175/7) with a 5-wicket victory in Eliminator 1

This has been good from Imad and Karachi since Zazai's wicket. In such a tense knockout, pressure can build quickly.

Experience or no experience no idea what malik is doing...how can u just block imad just senseless..regardless they win or not

Malik better finish the game now. Can't leave for anyone else after playing so many balls.

Noor giving away needless runs with these wides, especially costly in such tight run chases.

And now he gets smashed for 6. Poor bowling.

Wicketless in the previous 6 games. But these are his 2 most important overs of the season so far. He has to deliver.

Malik has created this opening ...there was no need for this tension

I think the promotion of Khalid Usman (A bowling all rounder) over Powell and Rutherford was questionable.

Ilyas has been pick of the bowlers for KK today and has bowled well since his first match for KK this season

Where has Rutherford been? He would've finished this game by now.

What are the chances of Amir picking up a wicket in his last over? He has failed to do so in the previous 6 matches. Laws of averages must come into play at some point??

Finally, it has happened.

Law of averages came into play. Lol

Seriously malik the pressure you have put on zalmis was pointless ...its not easy to come and slog if karachi do this then there is only one villain!!

The worst possible time to drop a catch :facepalm

The fielding in the UAE leg has been some of the most pathetic I've seen.

Ilyas bucking up his fielder even after a drop. Good temperament

Really good effort from Ilyas. Surely the best bowler for KK today

Lol! Parera with an embarrassing attempt to catch the ball.

Defending champions out of the tournament

It’s always Thisara. How the ball follows him in crucial junctures is beyond me, it was so bad it was funny

lol PSL in its entirety has had such horrific fielding. Even the young domestic players can't take a easy dolly catch.

Karachi needs an overhaul. Get rid of the former fixers and so called superstars. They need to follow the Multan model and pick the team based on statistics.

Having said that about Thisara, if it weren’t for him KK would have to got their desired score of 150/160 as Babar clearly said that was their target during strategic timeout which really baffles me how he works out this target, little worrying as him being our T20 opener and captain

KK could have won that match if they had planned how to bowl to Zazai and taken their catches.

Sorry to say but Imad don't have guts to make changes in the team as he sees fit. A puppet captain. in his post game interview he just said that they will be coming back with a different mindset next year.
yeah right as if he has guts to do what is right.

Don't play politics as this game has absolutely no place for this kind of nonsense and get rid of Wasim Akram please

Babar should captain this team next year and get rid of Sharjeel as he is not interested in playing cricket.

Possibly a case for PZ to get Haider back in the XI. Imam at no 3 is not serving much purpose. Haider can be handy if he gets going but yes he has struggled recently.

Their was stages during the game you could see Imad was animated during Babar’s slow innings and during Amir’s bowling. Think he expected better from his senior men.

The reason they kept trying Walton is because Wasim Akram wanted to prove that he was right in removing Rizwan from the keeping position and giving that chance to Walton. His ego is bigger than the team.

Hate it when you play this kind of politics because in the end Pakistan suffers at the international level.

Spare a thought for Ilyas. He bowled a fantastic final over under pressure, and got let down by poor fielding twice. Heartbreaking.

Peshawar Zalmi defeated Karachi Kings, the title defenders, by five wickets and one ball spare in Eliminator 1 of the HBL Pakistan Super League 6.

Two dropped catches of Sherfane Rutherford on the first and penultimate balls by Danish Aziza and Thisara Perera in Mohammad Ilyas’ last over saw Peshawar Zalmi get seven runs and cross the line.

Zalmi, the champions of the 2017 edition, will now play Islamabad United in Eliminator 2 on Tuesday and the winner will take on Multan Sultans in the final on Thursday.

Player of the match Hazratullah Zazai’s whirlwind 77 set the tone for Zalmi’s successful chase of 176. The Afghanistan opener smashed 10 fours and spanked five sixes in 38 balls and stitched an opening partnership of 49 with Kamran Akmal (13 off 12) and then added 43 more runs with Imam-ul-Haq (11 off 17). In both alliances, he took the lead role and made sure that Kings’ bowlers remained on the defensive. When he became Perera’s second wicket, Zalmi had, by then, accumulated 103 runs in 11.3 overs.

Shoaib Malik provided support in the middle-order with his 30 off 25, before Sherfane Rutherford (17 not out off 10) sealed the win.

Earlier, Zalmi pacers Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan and Umaid Asif equally shared six wickets and the seventh wicket was taken by Mohammad Imran Kings were restricted to 175 for seven.

Babar Azam scored his seventh half-century of the edition after Wahab decided to bowl after calling the toss right. Kings wickets fell on regular intervals after Sharjeel Khan (26 off 20) was dismissed in the sixth over and Babar struggled to find the desired support from the other end.

Perera played a handy knock in the middle-order scoring 37 runs at more than two-runs-a-ball as his 18-ball stay at the wicket was studded with four fours and three sixes.

Scores in brief:

Eliminator 1 – Peshawar Zalmi beat Karachi Kings by five wickets

Karachi Kings 175-7, 20 overs (Babar Azam 53, Thisara Perera 37, Sharjeel Khan 26; Mohammad Irfan 2-21, Wahab Riaz 2-29, Umaid Asif 2-37)

Peshawar Zalmi 176-5, 19.5 overs (Hazratullah Zazai 77, Shoaib Malik 30; Thisara Perera 2-10)

Player of the match – Hazratullah Zazai (Peshawar Zalmi)

Just watched highlights what a poor poor fielding by karachi in last over of the game.

Qasim akram dropped after a game or 2 and Mohammed haris not given a single chance. That was extremely poor from Karachi they looked rigid

Disappointing to see KK out of the tournament, but there's a lot for them to learn. They did not improve upon their deficiencies in the last edition, and teams were able to exploit these weaknesses.

1. Chadwick Walton is not good enough to hog an international spot and play as a keeper, KK need to look for local talent in this.

2. Guptill was a complete flop, and he should not be retained next year because of his poor performances.

3. Amir is washed up, he needs to seriously work hard and Imad needs to stop favouring him over others who are doing much better.

4. Imad himself needs to work harder, his bowling has become quite ordinary and his batting mediocre.

5. Just like last season, KK did not sign a domestic spinner and this has cost them along with the poor middle order. Zeeshan Malik did not even get a single opportunity because of Guptill being given an extended run.

For the next PSL, KK need to sign a good domestic spinner (preferably a wrist spinner), perhaps take Zeeshan Ashraf from LQ as their keeper option, and also look to fill in the gaps in the middle order. They should look for an international fast bowler who has the necessary experience to bowl in the death as well.

The ironic thing is they have the U-19 WK Mohammed Haris in the squad but they chose not to play him. Haris was pretty good at the U-19 WC and likely couldn't have done any worse than Walton but I guess the captain/coach don't like him for some reason.

KK maangement is quite stupid in a lot of ways. They didn't even try to go for a good local spinner, because clearly Imad isn't capable of holding the spin front alone. They kept persisting with Guptill even though he produced no results and had an awful team balance. They did not deserve to win if they couldn't see the options they had on the bench.

Haris Is a better t20 player than rohail nazir he plays spin really well am surprised they didn't play him
