Peshawar Zalmi | Discussion Thread

Hafeez is the best captain in Zalmi, but I understand the rationale behind the appointment of Sammy. He is a very popular figure, a good motivator and has a seriously impressive track-record as T20 captain. Won the World T20 twice.

Pakistan needs a young opening batsman, Hafeez is seriously struggling for PZ at the top, I think they should try Khushdil Shah at the top.

PZ has supported induction of young players like Asghar and Hassan Ali. However both are bowlers, Maybe time to give one emerging batsman a chance as well? Also it should be prioritized considering national team's opener has uncertain future and there are two slots at the top up for grabs.

Malan has been dropped. Hopefully Tamim plays all games over him now. Good to see Shakib too. Please play Haris in the next game over Hafeez. Morgan is leaving anyway. Maqsood looking good. I want to see youngsters play.

Sorry, if i am wrong, i didn't find anyone as emerging player in peshawar zalmi squad today.

Morgan leaving is a massive blow, but this has to be it for Junaid. Team looks good otherwise.
 
Their best bowler from last year, Asghar hasn't been getting selected or has been underutilised (when picked).

Hopefully, he gets away from this team and finds another team for next year.

Quality bowler and deserves much better.

Well zalmi have drop him because of shakib which is not good thinking shakib has ordinary psl last year and his first match this year was also just ok .he is good at containing the batsmen but not to be called strike bowler they need asghar in side otherwise they will struggle in middle overs with the bowl

Shakib has nothing over Ashgar, plus the latter at least has 'Pathan kay Haath' which could be very useful in catching / fielding etc etc. Asghar over Shakib any day of the week man !!

Yeah, he was really bad last year.

Also, Jordan was doing really well, so don't know why the change.

He should have been given some chances in Pakistan national team never mind Zalmi. He needs to find another team fast.

Which part of "When Tamim fails" didn't you get? Also even in that rain infected match Tamim was the highest run scorer helping his side scoring a decent total and in the next match Tamim scored 5 runs and they opposition struggle.

Saying that they need other bats to step up.

as i said before zalmi depend on morgan heavily as far tamim is concerned he is decent in PSL but yet to

show his dominance with the bat i mean 150+ strike rate

I was talking about PSL overall.

About dominance, Tamim averaged 66 in the matches he played for Zalmi last time around, playing some substansial innings here and there. Before he left Zalmi was at the top of the league and Tamim was highest run scorer. He played an anchor role for his side, and everyone else batted around him. Sammy, Afridi, Kami all big hitters
 
Cant believe they sidelined people like Samuels, H. Sohail for someone like Iftikhar.

I like PZ's squad but they just aren't getting it right with combinations. Junaid was another blunder yesterday.

he has failed 2 out of 3 time lets see how he does this year
 
I can't believe Asghar has not played more. He was brilliant last year and yet has been overlooked this season. Today, they selected someone who bowls straight deliveries at 100km instead of him.
 
Afridi was fantastic today.

That shot against Sohail, when he backed away and hit it for six was pure brute force.

Hoping to see Asghar play in the next game.

ER of 6.19 which is excellent in T20.
 
Bring in Khushdil, Haris, Jordan for Morgan, Iftikhar, IK Jr.

Next game should be a last chance for Maqsood.

Problem PZ are facing is that they don't have a reliable 3rd pacer right now. Either you gamble with Junaid again, or Sammy steps up.

Is Jordan heading back to England? If not, I'd put him in for sure.

Asghar should definitely play but they've got Shakib who's bowled decently too and has sort of filled in that role as well.

If Shakib fails to deliver with the bat in the next game, there could also be a case for him getting dropped for Malan/Dilshan and thus making a case Asghar's inclusion, since he is a SLA.

All in all a lot of questions for PZ to answer.
 
Congrats, zalmi fans!

But don't get your hopes too high for the playoffs. Hafeez will play a customary slow innings and 16-year old legend will choke as usual.

Only positive going forward for PZ is Mr. Asghar.

Chris Jordan can replace Shakib.
 
Another fine innings by Afridi, but this one was better.

He didn't give his wicket away to mills and that was the key to winning.

Seen it many times, where a bowler has been brought on to prise out his wicket and he has caved in.

This time, he played it smartly and took it to the last over, where a spinner was going to bowl.

Very refreshing to see.

Afghanistan have last match against Zimbabwe tomorrow, so Mohammad Shahzad might join the Zalmis. He was originally selected by Zalmis. An upgrade to Kamran Akmal. Better keeper and better T20 player.

If that is indeed the case then I'd have:

Kamran
Khushdil
Malan
Haris
Samuels
Afridi
Sammy
Jordan
Hasan
Wahab
Asghar

Batting is a little light, and Samuels too shouldn't really be there as he looks out of sorts. But lack of alternatives and the fact that your other options include Iftikhar means he should still play.

Without Tamin and Shakib, Zalmi looks a lot weaker.
 
They need to get in Khushdil now.

ISLU tried Hussain Talat at #3 under a captain who is supposed to discourage youngsters.

PZ management needs to man up.

Sadly I don't see them doing that now in the knockouts, they'll probably go with 'experience'. :hafeez

However, I don't really wish anything but the best for all the teams despite a bit of needling every now and then. :afridi

Zalmi's selections have been very frustrating at times, not impressed. They have a pretty good squad but keep selecting failures.

With the way he's playing, that doesn't sound so far fetched.

Yeah, he has bowled very well and picked up a wkt every match.

play Dilshan, Harris Sohail instead of Samuals and Maqsood. Dilly is still one of the best fielder at point!
 
Jake Ball has just got injured in an ongoing England practice game in the West Indies, slight chance that Jordan may be called up as a replacement.
 
Most exciting team of the PSL. Despite their love for TTFs. They have produced some of the most enthralling matches.


Hopefully in the next match we see Hafeez and Maqsood getting benched and Haris and Khushdil playing instead.
 
Losing Tahim is a blow. Hope Harris and Khushdil play the remaining part of the tournament.

Forgot about Dilshan.

He should come in for Malan.

As for Haris, he didn't look ready and needs time.

Maqsood did well in one of the games and looked good, so only hope is for him to replicate that performance.

that'll be very bad idea. I think Malan did pretty well in couple of matches he played. he and Kamran can form a good opening partnership. plus he can bowl if needed.

Marlon will be a disaster unless he play long innings. he'll eats up balls to get started and not a good fielder too.
