[PICS]"If Moeen were not stuck with cricket, he would've gone to Syria to join ISIS":Taslima Nasreen

Bit of a storm caused by Bangladeshi Writer Taslima Nasreen's tweet which she later removed - supposedly in response to rumours that Moeen Ali had asked for an alcohol logo to be removed from his, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Chennai Super Kings’ jersey.

As expected there was a strong reaction to this tweet but Taslima then tweeted to say she was being sarcastic...but don't think England cricketers were too impressed by that.

What a begairat. Seriously even if you are Anti-Islam, how can you be this ignorant to tweet something like this? Joke my foot.

She didn't realise that she would be offending his England team mates. Oh dear, this realisation will have caused her untold anguish.

Incredibly stupid comments.

Sarcastic comments? No they weren't sarcastic, they were disgraceful.

Perhaps she can message the England lads that it was't sarcastic and was just some light humour and that she loves the royal family and English tea with crumpets.

Lol she’s legit with egg on her face

Idiotic tweet, idiotic agenda and totally un-necessary rant.
Rightfully got told off by Jofra

Pretty stark that Moeed Ali’s English teammates came out in support of him but Wasim Jaffer’s ex teammates didn’t even a similar thing happened to him

What’s wrong with her? It’s ironic how she is trying to portray a laidback guy like Moeen as an extremist while she herself seems to be a rabid bigot.

Good to see more England cricketers speaking up.

Great stuff from the England lads supporting one of their own. These disgusting individuals need to be put in their place just like big Jofra socked it to her.

Yeah it’s strange that Indian cricketers were very vocal when Rihanna supported the farmers protest but kept quiet when their former teammate was attacked.

I mean to be fair, they probably were afraid of the potentially violent backlash that could have come their way. Didn’t extremist mobs vandalize movie theatres when Amir Khan said India is becoming intolerant?

She was shocked when indian leftists started shaming her, saying that she was their fan and they should have asked her why she tweeted it.

Moeen Ali deserves an apology from this filth of a human being.

Even right-wing BJP supporters don't agree with her and go this far to abuse a decent guy like him.

Even though I don't rate his cricket, Moeen Ali is one of the most likeable individuals, so it's quite shocking to read this from Bangladesh's very own female version of Tarek Fateh.

Poor comment. Good that she deleted it.

She should have the decency to issue an apology to Moeen publicly.

Don't know whether he is likeable or not, but totally wrong to insinuate that someone could be a potential terrorist. Should have apologized.

Yes, instead of trying to defend her stupidity by claiming it was sarcasm, she should have apologised to Moeen. Instead she deleted it because she got called out, but carried on bleating about her own issues instead. Ironically she is blasting critics for being haters.

She has been at the receiving end of haters in the past, so has developed this victim mentality that everyone who calls her out when she is wrong must be a hater.

What a stupid thing to say. Moeen has been nothing but a gentleman throughout his career, and has always come across like a humble lad. He hasn't even said anything resembling fundamentalism. And this is coming from someone who is no fan of (especially Abrahamic) religion.

Her damage control tweets are hilarious, she claims she was speaking out against Islam (which is her right) when it wasn't at all, she was simply attacking Moeen for being a devout Muslim, which is his right.

Clearly this individual has some mental issues

I don't think she is a troll in general. But this was an unwarranted attack on a cricketer who seems to be an honest lad.

Attention seeking: check
Pointless accusation: check
Hate spreading: check

Until this moment, never realized Moeen caused so much burn/jealousy to haters.

Reminds me of a certain poster here...

I just looked through her Twitter feed and I don’t think decency is something we can hope to see from someone like her.

so she is like the Bangladeshi Tariq fateh

yeah I am not surprised both say nasty things and get a pass due to their Muslim heritage

Someone should get her a medical scan ASAP because I think her brain and her sense of humor are both missing.

Like seriously, how daft and incompetent can someone be?

What an indecent example of a human being.

It's probably an attempt to draw hate from Muslims and them play the victim card. Classical move nowadays to paint a group as something they aren't.

People like this are the reason we have instructions on shampoo bottles.

Sarcasm?

This is like one of those people who start with "No offense but..." before insulting you.

Extremely poor statement. Disgusting one tbh.

But i personally don't agree with Moeen's i can't wear that logo stand. Both CSK and RCB allowed him to not wear the logo, may be because forcing him would have been extremely poor PR. But i dont agree with this. Will he also refuse to take the money part of which will come from the alcohol company? RCB in totality is owned by a alcohol company.

I was wondering the same. Isn't RCB owned by a beer company?

Poor Nasreen. She's usually a measured individual and a liberal. Dean Jones said something similar about Amla and had apologized. The only explanation I could think of was that she tweeted it from a hard right Hindu perspective as a sarcasm for the beer logo issue. She couldn't explicitly say it later because the backlash from the Hindu right would have been even more extreme.

Disgusting tweet from a very deplorable human being. I'm not surprised though, as she is an ex Muslim and I expect this sort of nonsense from them.

He should let go of any sponsorship earnings through the alcohol company like Amla used to do with Castle Lager and not have their logo.

RCB being owned by an alcohol company may be irrelevant if the monies used to pay his contract are coming throUgh RCBs earnings

RCB was bought from the money earned through selling alcohol.

Well in case of RCB whole and sole income stream is from Alcoholic beverage sale..
Even ECB has some alcoholic sponsors, i believe Marstons. Pretty difficult to split the money like that.

simple solution

if you don't like it don't pick that player

if you are picking that player tell him (beforehand) that you'll cut a % of his salary for his refusal to do so (due to damages)

if he agrees fine if not don't pick

If you are doing neither than stop crying and oblige to his personal wishes like any good employer should...

Don;t care what she says about any religion but this tweet shows she would do anything to stay in news, what a loser and stupid creature she is .

Wat a shameful tweet about an innocent man,Dont worry Sweden always feeds these feminists and protects them. She selected the perfect country after being kicked out from Bangladesh.

Too much social freedom to troll..others will pay the price
Reminds me of that story about a fly on the nose of the king and his monkey with a sword

She lives in India, not Sweden.

Moeen is a bit of a pretender though. He played for IPL teams that earn money from selling intoxicants. This 'no alcohol' piety of his is pretentious. Nobody cares, Moeen .. grow up.

It's not Moeen's concern if his team owners sell or drink alcohol.

He is well within his right to demand the removal of alcohol logo...as he doesn't want to personally endorse it.

He has played in IPL in past and he was paid from the team's earnings generated from IPL.
I am pretty sure he wouldn't be taking the money coming from alcoholic sponsors.

There's nothing pretentious about it.

Disgraceful tweet from a disgraceful person....just another attention seeking Islamophobe.

Good to see the English players standing up for Moeen.

Never heard of her before today. Did Bangladeshi's dislike her before this?

She probably wanted some attention, and she got it, goal achieved, not matter how it's reached.

If you want to discuss Moeen's priniciples about alcohol maybe start a new thread and tell him to grow up there. Not wearing this or that badge on his shirt doesn't translate to joining ISIS. If you want to agree with Taslima that's okay too, just don't start waffling about something totally unrelated.

Moeen Ali's father reacts to Taslima Nasreen's 'vile poisonous' ISIS tweet

Bangladesh-born writer Taslima Nasreen stirred a major controversy on social media on Tuesday when she remarked that English cricketer Moeen Ali would have joined terrorist outfit Syria if he wasn't a cricketer.

Her tweet read: “If Moeen Ali were not stuck with cricket, he would have gone to Syria to join ISIS”.

The 58-year-old author later clarified that her remarks were sarcasm and she also stands against fundamentalism and it surely didn't sit well with Moeen's father Munir Ali, who in a column for English daily Indian Express, expressed his dissatisfaction at the 'vile poisonous' remarks made by Taslima.

“In her ‘clarifying’ tweet, where she described her original remark as sarcasm, she also says she stands against fundamentalism," Munir wrote. "If she looks into a mirror, she will know what she tweeted is what is fundamentalist – a vicious stereotype against a Muslim person, a clearly Islamophobic statement. Someone who doesn’t have self-respect and respect for others can only stoop to this level.”

Munir, who revealed that his father came to the UK from Mirpur in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and his mother is English, said he is angered about the whole episode and will like to let his feelings be apparent to Taslime on her face.

“Truth be told, I am really angry, but I know I would be playing into the hands of people like her if I let my rage get out of control. If I get to meet her someday, I will tell her what I really think of her on her face. For now, I would ask her to pick a dictionary and see the meaning of sarcasm.

“It’s not what she thinks it is. It’s not spewing vile poisonous stuff against someone you don’t even know and then retracting it by saying it was sarcasm. Of all the people to pick on for her agenda, I can’t believe she has chosen my son. Everyone in the cricketing world knows the person he is,” he added.

Woah, what an atrocious tweet. I notice her account is still live, while Trump's got taken down for less.

All this stuff is down to convenience and why these so-called acts have no credibility.

It is easy for Moeen to ask for a logo to be removed from his shirt but he cannot say no to IPL money, so he is happy to justify earning money sourced from sale of alcohol.

Moeen is also played in the IPL in front of cheerleaders dancing in skimpy clothing, and that is not allowed in Islam either.

He also pays taxes to the British government who use his tax money to bomb Muslims in the Middle East.

This tweet by whoever this lady is (never heard of her before) is obviously rubbish because Moeen seems like a decent fellow, albeit he is whiny and plays victim all the time.

Nevertheless, Moeen advertises his faith a bit too much and if he really cared he would do more than just worry about the logo on his shirts, which he obviously doesn’t.

These Muslim players need to stop being so insecure in their faith and proving to be an inconvenience to others all the time.

Your faith shouldn’t be fragile to the point where sporting a mere logo on your shirt makes you sweat, and if it is so fragile, you shouldn’t even be taking salary from a franchise that makes money from selling alcohol and where cheerleaders are dancing in your face.

It’s 21st century! Everyone’s beliefs should be respected.

What a load of gibberish. You have no idea what you are talking about. Your hate for Moeen, Kashmiris, Pakistani and Islam in general has blinded you.
Keep poisoning your mind and spreading hate!

What a load of rubbish.

So if someone wants to practice his faith it's 'inconvenience' to others....although the franchise involved isn't complaining.
Only internet trolls like yourself are bothered.

Also the franchise isn't making money by only alcohol sponsors....there are plenty of other sources of revenue which are more than enough to pay the players.
Pretty sure Moeen would be letting go the money from alcohol sponsorship.

And the cheerleader stuff....lol
So should Moeen and other practicing Muslims stop walking on streets as well because there are plenty of 'skimpy-clothed girls' out there.

There might be thousand things wrong with Moeen but on an occasion and thread like this doing a, “Yes, Tasleem’s tweet is wrong BUT....” pretty much shows your mindset. You will do some mental gymnastics to somewhat defend such things no matter what. And you just don’t have the balls to outright say ‘I agree with it’ so are relying on these false equivalencies and irrelevant points to take shots at Moeen on this.

I think if you view from an Indian lens where apparently Taslima is residing, this may make more sense.

You can view it from any lens theres no justification no ifs or buts for such disgraceful comments and if anyone is suggesting there is they are bang out of order too

Disgraceful tweet. Further action should be taken against this bigoted woman.

Moeen is a gentleman. Good to see the England boys rallying around him as well.

Who is this woman? lol

Has twitter banned her now?

Mo is one of the most chilled out people you could ever meet.

This foolish woman is an extremist.

What a tool. Mo is a gentleman of the game and to my knowledge has never conducted himself in any way other than a proper way - befitting someone representing their national team.

Glad to see the lads have rallied around him on this and also Mo for taking such a dignified stance and not belittling himself by engaging with this disgraceful woman.

Unacceptable comments. Good to see English team standing up for him.

Out of curiosity outside of cricket what is Ali’s educational/ business background?

Some disgusting comments from some Indian posters (and one Pakistani poster suffering from inferiority complex). How on earth are you guys able to justify what this sewage tweeted, and infact blaming the victim for playing for a team whose ownership is in alcohol business. From what I see, the team represents the city, not an alcohol company. Seriously! Is there any humanity left in you people?

The expression "losing faith in humanity" is used very freely.

But after reading this tweet and some responses to it make me lose faith in humanity. It is just sad.

Mind you, these people defending the tweet are not extremist terrorists cut out of society and brainwashed from their childhood... just no excuse for them.

Working class background but grew up in Britain so must have done schooling till high school graduation Atleast.

Why does it matter though?

Fun fact. He’s part white British.

She was being serious not sarcastic. After being called out insisted it was sarcasm so they people don't gang up against her. She targeted Moin for his bearded appearance and devotion to his faith.

No one should condone the comments of taslima nasreen. That has no connection with Moeens logo issue.

But Moeens insisting on not sporting a alcohol logo when the entire team is owned by a alcohol company is hypocritical.
