This happened in the 2nd T20I between Bangladesh and Pakistan when Shaheen Shah Afridi threw the ball down at Afif Hossain when he was in the crease - there was no need for that and probably due to being frustrated after being hit for a six on the previous ball.

Lucky that Afif wasnt injured badly.

This is still okay, as you can have a chance to run out the batsmen, but if it is aimed at body/head and not stumps to intimidate batsmen then that's downright stupid.

Sky recently shared a batsman getting run out in this manner:

Yh no need The batter was in his crease Not good from shaheen

Probably one down side of shaheens game he can lose the plot and get rattled easily .

Saw it against Australia

This seems to occur a lot with the pakistan players against poorer opposition like bangladesh

Its a repeated issue of unnecessary aggression against some but not all

You never see hasan ali giving a send off or shaheen throwing the ball at the indian or australian players but put a lowly ranked team in front of them and suddenly they turn "aggressive" and "macho"

Come on. Against India and Australia they can’t do it because Pak are the minnows :ma

Just flexing their muscles to look macho against BD, NAM, Scotland

That looks terrible…

What was Afridi actually trying to do there?

Looks he had momentary brain flatulence.

Never been a fan of this.

No need for it at all unless the batter is going for a run or is clearly out of his crease.

Yeah always annoys me when bowlers do this.

1. There is a risk of over throws, even if the ball hits the stumps it can ricochet
2. Batsman can be hit and injured e.g. Zulqarnain Haider broke his hand when Broad did it to him if I remember correctly
3. Even if you hit the stumps batsman is not out
4. It makes the bowler look silly

So just don't do it unless batsman is out of his crease

Thats not great to watch.
I can recall one incident where Southee intentionally hit Hafeez but Hafeez didn't act like a saint and gave befitting response to Southee...
Can someone provide video link of this incident.

One more video is available on YouTube where Arshdeep Singh (young bowler from KXIP) hit Saurabh Tiwary.

This one is so hurtful and unnecessary as the batsman was clearly in his crease..
Glad this didn't happen in Bangladesh-Srilanka or Indo-Bangaldesh match. 😂

He has a mental IQ of a 13 year old

Like father in law, like Son in law

He apologised right after the match and hugged him.. there is a video of it now. So let's not make a big issue out of it and move on

would he have apologized if he lost the match? dont think so. shaheen is a manchild

He should be fined by the PCB. There is no need for this type of blind aggression and something quite serious could have happened.

Throwing the ball back should be against the laws of the game. I dont think ive ever seen anyone be run out thos way so there is no need to do something that could potentially injure a batsman with no chance of a positive return.

A fast bowler should look to intimidate the batsman with his actual bowling, not via throw downs.

Why does PCB dramatise everything as if it’s a Hum TV serial?

Clearly a cringe, staged apology

I commentesd on this in match commentary thread also, very stupid by Shaheen. He was hit for a Six and lost his cool. Hopefully Saqlain and co will knock some sense in his head. Many better bowlers have been hit for sixes and just gone on without this stupidity. Glad the batsman wasn’t seriously injured and could continue.

Inzamam was once given out Handling the Ball, after bowler threw at him when he was out of crease by an inch or two. In very next match he jumped to avoid contact with a throw that would eventually hit the stumps while Inzamam, although inside crease, was in air.

On each occasion, he was given Out.

A tiny section of game play that bowlers are neither encourged nor discouraged to exploit.

Unnecessary, but Afif looked like he was on the move, Shaheen had his back to the batter before picking up swirling around and lobbing the ball.

Think momentum made him carry through though at this point he could see the batter was back in the crease.

If he was front on right through, don't think think he would have done it but needs more awareness.

Aggression yaar coupled with pace is pace yaar. Shaheen developing nicely. :junaid

Reminds me of the Kohli MJ spat during the boxing day test.

Fast bowlers feel an impulsive need to throw the ball immediately at the batsman if they get the ball, irrespective of whether the batter is inside the crease or outside it. All quicks have an urge to assert their alpha-ness to the batsman and the urge to assert the alphaness multiplies exponentially if the bowler had just been hit for a boundary the previous delivery:shakib

Yes this aggression was missing against Wade when he was tonked for six sixes, against a minnow he gets his Jazba Junoon. What a minnow basher

This is good to see.

Good to see Afif wasn't injured badly.

If only he showed this fake aggression against Wade before getting tonked for three sixes.

He wouldnt have done it incase ball went for overthrows.

Regardless this practice needs to stop.

ICC should make it clear to him and all others.

With the follow through taken into account, you are throwing a ball at speed from about 15 or 16 yards. That could cause a nasty injury one day.

I hope Shaheen gets a hefty ban for this stupid act, you simply can't do this just to intimidate the battter.

Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has been fined 15 per cent of his match fees for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Saturday.

Afridi was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Afridi, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period.

The incident occurred in the third over of Bangladesh’s innings, when Afridi fielded the ball on his follow through and threw it at Afif Hossain, hitting him on the foot, when the batter was within the popping crease and not intending to take a run.

Afridi admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Neeyamur Rashid of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees and ratified by the ICC Cricket Operations department as per the COVID-19 interim playing regulations. There was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Gazi Sohel and Sohail Tanveer, third umpire Masudur Rahman and fourth official Sharfudoulla Ibne Shahid levelled the charges.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Personally I think this is a red card offence and umpire should immediately ask that bowler to leave the field and play no further part in the game, and match ref should give an automatic suspension and ask bowler to offer public apology for his misbehaviour before he can play international cricket again.

You know when you have been caught speeding and on occasions you are given the choice of points or a driving re-education course of some sort. In this case Shaheen should get points, but should also have to attend the ICC Code of Conduct lectures where those lectures are given in the voices of Athar Ali Khan and Anjum Chopra. This should prevent him and others from doing this ever again.

Reminds me of the Kohli MJ spat during the boxing day test.

Was MJ fined that time or that is only reserved for brown players?

That’s disappointing , just 15 per cent fine from match fee for behaving like a thug and doing something that had potential to seriously injure another player - at least ban him for a match,

Was MJ fined that time or that is only reserved for brown players?

In that instance, I think Kohli was out of his crease and MJ was well within his rights to have a shy at the stumps.

But still Kohli had a go at Johnson anyway and was cussing at him throughout that day till he got out:yk

Personally I think this is a red card offence and umpire should immediately ask that bowler to leave the field and play no further part in the game, and match ref should give an automatic suspension and ask bowler to offer public apology for his misbehaviour before he can play international cricket again.

Unless of course if the bowler is Hafeez, in which case, the batsman is shown the red card:hafeez

Only in the scenario where the bowler is Hafeez and the batsman smacks his double bouncing lollipop out of the ground for six , then yes that’s “badmaashi” by the batsman which is clearly not on, so bring out the red card for the batsman.

Reminds me of Stuart Broad throwing to Haider in 2010 E England series

Unnecessary aggression from Shaheen

If I remember correctly Glenn McGrath and even Shane Warne used to do this quite often and were rarely reprimanded.

Shane Warne did it to Kevin Pietersen and KP smacked the throw for 4 lol

Unnecessary, but unintentional. No need to make it controversial

remember when Inzi was given out obstructing the field when he fended a throw . Nice old memories

When batsmen are as silly as this then who can blame the bowlers for trying

In that case, batsmen should be allowed to hit the ball with the bat (currently not allowed due to a dismissal called "obstructing the field").

If someone is throwing a ball at you, you should be able to defend yourself.

Almost injured the Babar Azam, it could have been very bad for him. ICC needs to start penalizing the fielders for unnecessary throws at the batsman

Siraj threw the ball yesterday too.

Pakistanis are hurling balls not for opportunity but out of frustration. That is not good.

Now Siraj does it.

Am hoping ICC will come down hard on him in same way they did with Shaheen

Hope Shaheen doesnt lose his cool against Khawaja today - seems fired up.

Overton threw a ball at Pujara last summer. At Da Silva in this test. Because he simply can't get them out, so he feels the need to hit the batsman.

In both occasions rather than apologizing to batsman for hitting them, he simply gave them a stare.

Guess that's the confidence you have when you have ECB looking after you and you know match refs not gonna come after you for such things.

Makes WI crushing Eng all the more fun to watch though.
